ਹੁਣ ਸੁੰਭ ਦੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ
Now the war with Sumbh is described:
अथ सुंभ जुध कथनं ॥
ਅਥ ਸੁੰਭ ਜੁਧ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੋਸ਼ ਅਰਥ ਵੇਖੋ
ਭੁਜੰਗਪ੍ਰਯਾਤਛੰਦ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
भुजंग प्रयात छंद ॥
ਲਘੁੰਭ੍ਰਾਤਜੁਝਿਯੋਸੁਨਿਯੋਸੁੰਭਰਾਯੰ॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁੰਭ ਨੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਭਰਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਖਬਰ ਸੁਣੀ
When Sumbh heard about the death of his younger brother
लघुं भ्रात जुझियो सुनियो सुंभ रायं ॥
ਸਜੈਸਸਤ੍ਰਅਸਤ੍ਰੰਚੜਿਯੋਚਉਪਚਾਯੰ॥
(ਤਦੋਂ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਜਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਬੜੇ ਚਾਉ ਨਾਲ (ਯੁੱਧ ਲਈ) ਚੜ੍ਹ ਚਲਿਆ।
He, in fury and excitement, marched forward to wage war, bedecking himself with arms and amour.
सजै ससत्र असत्रं चड़ियो चउप चायं ॥
ਭਯੋਨਾਦਉਚੰਰਹਿਯੋਪੂਰਗੈਣੰ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਦ ਹੋਇਆ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰਾ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਗੂੰਜ ਉਠਿਆ।
There was terrible sound which permeted in the firmament.
भयो नाद उचं रहियो पूर गैणं ॥
ਤ੍ਰਸੰਦੇਵਤਾਦੈਤਕੰਪਿਯੋਤ੍ਰਿਨੈਣੰ੧੧੫੭॥॥॥
(ਉਸ) ਦੈਂਤ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਡਰ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ (ਤ੍ਰਿਨੈਣੰ) ਸ਼ਿਵ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ ॥੧॥੧੫੭॥
Hearing this sound, the gods, demons and Shiva all trembled.1.157.
त्रसं देवता दैत कंपियो त्रिनैणं ॥१॥१५७॥
ਡਰਿਯੋਚਾਰਬਕਤ੍ਰੰਟਰਿਯੋਦੇਵਰਾਜੰ॥
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ('ਚਾਰ ਬਕਤ੍ਰੰ') ਡਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਰਾਜ ਇੰਦਰ ਵੀ ਡੋਲ ਗਿਆ।
Brahma was fightened and the throne of Indra, the king of gods, wavered.
डरियो चार बकत्रं टरियो देव राजं ॥
ਡਿਗੇਪਬਸਰਬੰਸ੍ਰਜੇਸੁਭਸਾਜੰ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਡਿਗ ਪਏ ਸਨ। (ਉਸ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੇ) ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਸਾਜ ਸਜਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
Seeing the bedecked form of the demon-king, the mountains also began to fall.
डिगे पब सरबं स्रजे सुभ साजं ॥
ਪਰੇਹੂਹਦੈਕੈਭਰੇਲੋਹਕ੍ਰੋਹੰ॥
(ਉਹ) ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਲ ਹੋਏ ਹੂ-ਹਾ ਕਰਦੇ (ਇੰਜ ਲਗ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ)
Shriking and screaming in great ire the demons appear
परे हूह दै कै भरे लोह क्रोहं ॥
ਮਨੋਮੇਰਕੋਸਾਤਵੋਸ੍ਰਿੰਗਸੋਹੰ੨੧੫੮॥॥॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਪਰਬਤ ਦੀ ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਚੋਟੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨॥੧੫੮॥
Like the seventh peak of Sumeru mountain.2.158.
मनो मेर को सातवो स्रिंग सोहं ॥२॥१५८॥
ਸਜਿਯੋਸੈਨਸੁਭੰਕੀਯੋਨਾਦਉਚੰ॥
ਸੁੰਭ ਨੇ ਸੈਨਾ ਸਜਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚਾ ਨਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ
Bedecking himself, Sumbh raised a terrible sound
सजियो सैन सुभं कीयो नाद उचं ॥
ਸੁਣੈਗਰਭਣੀਆਨਕੇਗਰਭਮੁਚੰ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਗਰਭਿਤ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਗਰਭ-ਪਾਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Hearing which the pregnancy of women was miscarried.
सुणै गरभणीआन के गरभ मुचं ॥
ਪਰਿਯੋਲੋਹਕ੍ਰੋਹੰਉਠੀਸਸਤ੍ਰਝਾਰੰ॥
ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ (ਸ਼ੂਰਵੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲੋਹਾ ਖੜਕਣ ਲਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ (ਦੇ ਵਜਣ ਨਾਲ) ਚਿੰਗਾਰੀਆਂ ਉਠਣ ਲਗੀਆਂ।
The furious warriors made continuous use of steel arms and the weapons began to rain.
परियो लोह क्रोहं उठी ससत्र झारं ॥
ਚਵੀਚਾਵਡੀਡਾਕਣੀਯੰਡਕਾਰੰ੩੧੫੯॥॥॥
ਚੁੜੇਲਾਂ ਬੋਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਡਾਕਣੀਆਂ ਡਕਾਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੩॥੧੫੯॥
The voices of vultures and vampires were heard in the battlefield.3.159.
चवी चावडी डाकणीयं डकारं ॥३॥१५९॥
ਬਹੇਸਸਤ੍ਰਅਸਤ੍ਰੰਕਟੇਚਰਮਬਰਮੰ॥
ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਢਾਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਵਚ ('ਬਰਮੰ') ਕਟੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
With the use of weapons and arms, the winsome armours were being cut
बहे ससत्र असत्रं कटे चरम बरमं ॥
ਭਲੇਕੈਨਿਬਾਹਿਯੋਭਟੰਸੁਆਮਿਧਰਮੰ॥
ਸੂਰਮੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ-ਧਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਭਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
And the warriors performed their religious duties in a nice manner.
भले कै निबाहियो भटं सुआमि धरमं ॥
ਉਠੀਕੂਹਜੂਹੰਗਿਰੇਚਉਰਚੀਰੰ॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਮਚ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਰ ਅਤੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਡਿਗ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
There was consternation in the whole battlefield and the canopies and garments began to fall.
उठी कूह जूहं गिरे चउर चीरं ॥
ਰੁਲੇਤਛਮੁਛੰਪਰੀਗਛਤੀਰੰ੪੧੬੦॥॥॥
ਵੱਢੇ ਟੁੱਕੇ (ਸ਼ਰੀਰ) ਰੁਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੌਛਾੜ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ॥੪॥੧੬੦॥
The chopped bodies were being trodden in the dust and because of the infliction of arrows, the warriors were becoming senseless.4.160.
रुले तछ मुछं परी गछ तीरं ॥४॥१६०॥
ਗਿਰੇਅੰਕੁਸੰਬਾਰੁਣੰਬੀਰਖੇਤੰ॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਕੁਸ਼, ਹਾਥੀ ('ਬਾਰਣੰ') ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਡਿਗ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ,
The warriors fell in the battlefield along with the elephants and goads.
गिरे अंकुसं बारुणं बीर खेतं ॥
ਨਚੇਕੰਧਹੀਣੰਕਬੰਧੰਅਚੇਤੰ॥
ਮੋਢਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਧੜ ਅਚੇਤ ਨਚ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ,
The headless trunks began to dance senselessly.
नचे कंध हीणं कबंधं अचेतं ॥
ਉਡੈਗ੍ਰਿਧਬ੍ਰਿਧੰਰੜੈਕੰਕਬੰਕੰ॥
ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਗਿੱਧਾਂ ਉਡ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਕਾਂ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The large-sized vultures began to fly and the crows with curved beaks began to caw.
उडै ग्रिध ब्रिधं रड़ै कंक बंकं ॥
ਭਕਾਭੁੰਕਭੇਰੀਡਾਹਡੂਹਡੰਕੰ੫੧੬੧॥॥॥
ਭੇਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਕ-ਭਕ ਅਤੇ ਡਗਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਡਹਿ-ਡਹਿ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ॥੫॥੧੬੧॥
The frightful sound of drums and the clatter of tabors was heard.5.161.
भका भुंक भेरी डाह डूह डंकं ॥५॥१६१॥
ਟਕਾਟੁਕਟੋਪੰਢਕਾਢੁਕਢਾਲੰ॥
ਟਕ-ਟਕ ਟੋਪਾਂ ਦੀ, ਢਕ-ਢਕ ਢਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ (ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ)
There was knocking of helmets and the sound of blows on the shields.
टका टुक टोपं ढका ढुक ढालं ॥
ਤਛਾਮੁਛਤੇਗੰਬਕੇਬਿਕਰਾਲੰ॥
ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਵਢਾ-ਟੁਕੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
The swords began to chop the bodies with terrible noises.
तछा मुछ तेगं बके बिकरालं ॥
ਹਲਾਚਾਲਬੀਰੰਧਮਾਧੰਮਿਸਾਂਗੰ॥
ਵੀਰ ਯੋਧਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਲ ਜੁਲ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਛਿਆਂ (ਦੇ ਲਗਣ ਨਾਲ) ਧੰਮ ਧੰਮ (ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ)।
The warriors were attacked continuously and the clatter of daggers was being heard.
हला चाल बीरं धमा धंमि सांगं ॥
ਪਰੀਹਾਲਹੂਲੰਸੁਣਿਯੋਲੋਗਨਾਗੰ੬੧੬੨॥॥॥
ਇਤਨਾ ਹਲਾ-ਗੁਲਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪਾਤਾਲ (ਨਾਗ ਲੋਕ) ਵਿਚ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ॥੬॥੧੬੨॥
There was such consternation that its noise was heard in the netherworld by the Nagas.6.162.
परी हाल हूलं सुणियो लोग नागं ॥६॥१६२॥
ਡਕੀਡਾਗਣੀਜੋਗਣੀਯੰਬਿਤਾਲੰ॥
ਡਾਕਣੀਆਂ, ਜੋਗਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਤਾਲ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸਨ,
The vampires, female demons, ghosts
डकी डागणी जोगणीयं बितालं ॥
ਨਚੇਕੰਧਹੀਣੰਕਬੰਧੰਕਪਾਲੰ॥
ਬਿਨਾ ਸਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਢਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਧੜ ਨਚ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Headless trunks and the kapalikas are dancing in the battlefield.
नचे कंध हीणं कबंधं कपालं ॥
ਹਸੇਦੇਵਸਰਬੰਰਿਸ੍ਯੋਦਾਨਵੇਸੰ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਹਸ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ,
All the gods appear pleased and the demon-king is getting furious.
हसे देव सरबं रिस्यो दानवेसं ॥
ਕਿਧੋਅਗਨਿਜੁਆਲੰਭਯੋਆਪਭੇਸੰ੭੧੬੩॥॥॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਗਨੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੭॥੧੬੩॥
It appears that the flame of fire is blazing.7.163.
किधो अगनि जुआलं भयो आप भेसं ॥७॥१६३॥
