ਸੋਪੰਡਿਤੁਜੋਮਨੁਪਰਬੋਧੈ॥
(ਅਸਲੀ) ਪੰਡਿਤ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He is a true Pandit, a religious scholar, who instructs his own mind.
सो पंडितु जो मनु परबोधै ॥
ਰਾਮਨਾਮੁਆਤਮਮਹਿਸੋਧੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
He searches for the Lord's Name within his own soul.
राम नामु आतम महि सोधै ॥
ਰਾਮਨਾਮਸਾਰੁਰਸੁਪੀਵੈ॥
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
He drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of the Lord's Name.
राम नाम सारु रसु पीवै ॥
ਉਸੁਪੰਡਿਤਕੈਉਪਦੇਸਿਜਗੁਜੀਵੈ॥
ਉਸ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
By that Pandit's teachings, the world lives.
उसु पंडित कै उपदेसि जगु जीवै ॥
ਹਰਿਕੀਕਥਾਹਿਰਦੈਬਸਾਵੈ॥
ਜੋ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He implants the Sermon of the Lord in his heart.
हरि की कथा हिरदै बसावै ॥
ਸੋਪੰਡਿਤੁਫਿਰਿਜੋਨਿਨਆਵੈ॥
ਉਹ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ (ਮਰਨ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
Such a Pandit is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again.
सो पंडितु फिरि जोनि न आवै ॥
ਬੇਦਪੁਰਾਨਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿਬੂਝੈਮੂਲ॥
ਜੋ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਭ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,
He understands the fundamental essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees.
बेद पुरान सिम्रिति बूझै मूल ॥
ਸੂਖਮਮਹਿਜਾਨੈਅਸਥੂਲੁ॥
ਜੋ ਇਹ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹੈ;
In the unmanifest, he sees the manifest world to exist.
सूखम महि जानै असथूलु ॥
ਚਹੁਵਰਨਾਕਉਦੇਉਪਦੇਸੁ॥
ਜੋ (ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਖਤ੍ਰੀ, ਵੈਸ਼, ਸ਼ੂਦਰ) ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He gives instruction to people of all castes and social classes.
चहु वरना कउ दे उपदेसु ॥
ਨਾਨਕਉਸੁਪੰਡਿਤਕਉਸਦਾਅਦੇਸੁ॥੪॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ) ਉਸ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥
O Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in salutation forever. ||4||
नानक उसु पंडित कउ सदा अदेसु ॥४॥
