(ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ॥੯॥

(ਮੇਰਾ) ਬਾਲਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਤੀ ਮਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ
‘My son and husband are dead; first I must cremate them.
ਬਹੁਰਿਤਿਹਾਰੋਧਾਮਮੈਆਜੁਬਸੌਗੀਆਇ॥੧੦॥
ਫਿਰ ਅਜ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਘਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਵਸਾਂਗੀ ॥੧੦॥
‘Thereafter I will come to your house and live with you.’(10)

ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਖਸਮਕੌਬਹੁਰਿਪ੍ਰਜਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਫਿਰ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਿਆ।
First she cremated her son and then placed her husband in the pyre.
ਬਹੁਰੌਕਾਖਿਮੁਗਲਕੋਭਰੀ॥
ਫਿਰ ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਵਕੜੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ,
ਆਪਨਲੈਪਾਵਕਮੋਪਰੀ॥੧੧॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਗਨੀ ਵਿਚ ਛਾਲ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੧੧॥
Then she grabbed hold of Mughal and jumped in and burnt him too.(11)

ਸੁਤਜਰਾਇਪਤਿਜਾਰਿਕੈਬਹੁਰਿਮੁਗਲਗਹਿਲੀਨ॥
ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ, ਫਿਰ ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜ ਲਿਆ।
After cremating her son and husband, she had put Mughal to death by burning,
ਤਾਪਾਛੇਆਪਨਜਰੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਯੌਕੀਨ॥੧੨॥
ਉਸ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਆਪ ਸੜ ਗਈ। (ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧੨॥
Then immolated herself and, thus, conducted a clever pretence.

ਬੀਰਦਤਚੰਡਾਲਿਕਰਹੈ॥
ਬੀਰ ਦੱਤ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਚੰਡਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
ਅਤਿਤਸਕਰਤਾਕੌਜਗਕਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਚੋਰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
There lived one lowborn called Beer Datt, who was known as a big thief.
ਖਾਨਖਵੀਨਤਹਾਜੋਆਵੈ॥
ਉਥੇ ਜੋ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਖ਼ਵੀਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ,
ਤਾਕੌਲੂਟਿਕੂਟਿਲੈਜਾਵੇ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਟ ਕੁਟ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
Whenever a Shah came to his side, he would rob him.(1)
ਜੋਆਵਤਕੋਊਰਾਹਨਿਹਾਰੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ,
ਜਾਇਤਵਨਕੌਤੁਰਤਹਕਾਰੈ॥
(ਤਾਂ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰਤ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਵੰਗਾਰਦਾ।
If anyone going astray from his way came across, he would invite hirn immediately.
ਜੋਤਨਿਧਨੁਰਿਪੁਤੀਰਚਲਾਵੈ॥
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਵੈਰੀ ਧਨੁਸ਼ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਉਂਦਾ
ਛੁਰਾਭਏਤਿਹਕਾਟਿਗਿਰਾਵੈ॥੨॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
And if some enemy shot an arrow on him, he would cut him with a dagger.(2)

ਲਹੈਨਿਸਾਇਕਜਬਭਯੋਤਬਵਹਕਰਤਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ॥
ਜਦ ਰਾਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਤਦ (ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ।
He would attack as soon as the night fell and
ਜੀਵਤਕਿਸੂਨਛੋਰਈਡਾਰਤਹੀਸੰਘਾਰ॥੩॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਨਾ ਛਡਦਾ, ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ॥੩॥
would not spare any body’s life.(3)

ਰਤਨਸਿੰਘਤਿਹਮਗਹ੍ਵੈਆਯੋ॥
(ਇਕ ਦਿਨ) ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਉਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਆ ਲੰਘਿਆ।
ਸੋਲਖਿਤਵਨਚੋਰਨੈਪਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਚੋਰ ਨੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ।
Once, a Rattan Singh came on that route and the thief saw him.
ਤਾਕਹੁਕਹਿਯੋਬਸਤ੍ਰਤੁਮਡਾਰੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਜਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਲਾਹ ਦੇ,
ਨਾਤਰਤੀਰਕਮਾਨਸੰਭਾਰੋ॥੪॥
ਜਾਂ ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲੈ' ॥੪॥
‘Either you take your clothes off or get ready with your bow and arrow to fight,’ (The thief told him).(4)
ਰਤਨਸਿੰਘਜੋਤੀਰਚਲਾਵੈ॥
(ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਿਆ) ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੋ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਉਂਦਾ,
ਸੋਊਛੁਰਾਤੇਕਾਟਿਗਿਰਾਵੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਚੋਰ) ਛੁਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੰਦਾ।
When Rattan Singh shot an arrow, he cut it off with a dagger.
ਉਨਸਠਿਤੀਰਛੋਰਿਤਿਨਕਹਿਯੋ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ੫੯ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ
ਏਕਤੀਰਤਰਕਸਮਮਰਹਿਯੋ॥੫॥
ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭੱਥੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੁਣ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਤੀਰ ਬਚਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
When he had shot fifty-nine arrows, he told, ‘Now, I am left with only one arrow in my quiver.(5)

ਸੁਨੁਤਸਕਰਮੈਬਿਸਿਖਕੋਜਾਕੌਕੀਯੋਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਚੋਰ! ਸੁਣ, (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ) ਜੋ ਵੀ ਤੀਰ ਮੈਂ ਚਲਾਇਆ,
‘Listen, you the thief! want to make it clear to you,
ਆਜੁਲਗੇਚੂਕਿਯੋਨਹੀਸੁਨਿਲੈਬਚਨਹਮਾਰ॥੬॥
ਅਜ ਤਕ (ਨਿਸ਼ਾਣੇ) ਤੋਂ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਲੈ ॥੬॥
‘Whenever I shoot this arrow, I never miss my target.(6)

ਮੈਜੇਤੇਤੁਹਿਤੀਰਚਲਾਏ॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਏ,
ਸੋਸਭਹੀਤੈਕਾਟਿਗਿਰਾਏ॥
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
‘So far, all the arrow I shot, you have cut them.
ਅਬਚੇਰੌਚਿਤਭਯੋਹਮਾਰੋ॥
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਹੋਸੁਕਰਿਹੌਕਾਜਿਤਿਹਾਰੋ॥੭॥
ਦਸੋ, ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਕੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੭॥
‘I accept your dexterity. Now whatever you say I will do for you.(7)

ਏਕਹੌਸਮਨਮਹਿਰਹੀਸੋਤੁਹਿਕਹੌਸੁਨਾਇ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਹਵਸ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
‘But there is one ambition of mine which I must express it to you,
ਜਿਹਭਾਖੈਮਾਰੌਤਿਸੈਦੀਜੈਕਛੂਬਤਾਇ॥੮॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਹੋ, ਮਾਰ ਦਿਆਂ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਕੁਝ ਦਸ ਦਿਓ ॥੮॥
‘I wish to kill anyone whom you may like me to.’(8)

ਯੌਸੁਨਿਚੋਰਅਧਿਕਸੁਖਪਾਯੋ॥
ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਚੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ
The thief was much pleased to hear this.
ਏਕਪਤ੍ਰਕਰਿਸਾਥਬਤਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪੱਤਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸੰਕੇਤ ਨਾਲ ਦਸਿਆ।
To convey his concurrence, he lifted his arm.
ਜਬਤਾਕੀਤਿਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਚੁਰਾਈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ (ਚੋਰ) ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹਟੀ,
As soon as he drifted his eyes (towards his hand), he pierced the
ਤਨਿਗਾਸੀਤਿਹਮਰਮਲਗਾਈ॥੯॥
(ਤਾਂ) ਤੀਰ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਰਮ ਸਥਲ (ਛਾਤੀ) ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥੯॥
sharp edge of arrow into his heart.(9)

ਰਤਨਸਿੰਘਇਹਛਲਭਏਖਲਕੀਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਬਚਾਇ॥
ਰਤਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਛਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਬਚਾਈ
Rattan Singh had played this trick as soon as his eyes drifted,
ਮਰਮਸਥਲਮਾਰਿਯੋਬਿਸਿਖਦੀਨੋਤਾਹਿਗਿਰਾਇ॥੧੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਰਮ ਸਥਲ ਵਿਚ ਤੀਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਡਿਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੦॥
And killed him through the sharp edge ofthe arrow.(10)(1)

ਮਾਰਵਾੜ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਗ੍ਰਦੱਤ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ।
In the country of Marwar, Raja Uger Datt used to live.
ਕੋਪਜਗੇਪਾਵਕਮਨੋਸੀਤਲਸਲਿਲਸੁਭਾਵ॥੧॥
ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਾਂਗ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾ (ਵਾਂਗ ਠੰਡਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ॥੧॥
When angry, he was as fierce as fire but when calm, he was like water.(1)

ਧਰਵਾਰਨਤਾਕੋਧਨਮਾਰਿਯੋ॥
(ਇਕ ਵਾਰ) ਧਾੜਵੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਲੁਟ ਲਿਆ।
ਪੁਰੀਆਇਪਾਲਕਨਪੁਕਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਪਾਲਕਾਂ (ਚਰਵਾਹਿਆਂ) ਨੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ।
When the enemy took away their wealth (of the animals), the herdsman came to the town and raised hue and cry.
ਅਗਨਤਢੋਲਨਗਾਰੇਬਾਜੇ॥
(ਬਦਲੇ ਲਈ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਢੋਲ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵਜਣ ਲਗੇ
ਕੌਚਪਹਿਰਿਸੂਰਮਾਬਿਰਾਜੇ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਕਵਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੨॥
The drums were beaten and many courageous ones came out holding their spears and daggers.(2)

ਬਜਿਯੋਜੂਝਊਆਦੁਹੂੰਦਿਸਿਸੂਰਾਭਯੋਸੁਰੰਗ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਰੂ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਲਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
From both sides war drums were pounded and the valiant ones swarmed in full swings.
ਪਖਰਾਰੇਨਾਚਤਭਏਕਾਤਰਭਏਕੁਰੰਗ॥੩॥
ਪਾਖਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਘੋੜੇ ਨਚਣ ਲਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਡਰਪੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਫਿਕੇ ਪੈ ਗਏ ॥੩॥
Their galloping horses made even the deer to feel humble.(3)
ਭੁਜੰਗਛੰਦ॥
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਛੰਦ:

ਮਹਾਬੀਰਗਾਜੇਮਹਾਕੋਪਕੈਕੈ॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਬਲੀ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗਜਣ ਲਗੇ।
ਤਿਸੀਛੇਤ੍ਰਛਤ੍ਰੀਨਕੋਛਿਪ੍ਰਛੈਕੈ॥
ਉਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਛੇਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋਇਆ।
The gallant ones seeing the Kashatris in the war, roared and they
ਬ੍ਰਛੀਬਾਨਬਜ੍ਰਾਨਕੇਵਾਰਕੀਨੇ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਬਰਛੀਆਂ, ਬਾਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਜ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਕਿਤੇਖੇਤਮਾਰੇਕਿਤੇਛਾਡਿਦੀਨੇ॥੪॥
ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੪॥
faced each other with spears and arrows as hard as stones. (4)
ਕਿਤੇਖਿੰਗਖੰਗੇਕਿਤੇਖੇਤਮਾਰੇ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਕਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਘੁਰੇਘੋਰਬਾਜੰਤ੍ਰਮਾਰੂਨਗਾਰੇ॥
ਮਾਰੂ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਦੇ ਹਨ।
