ਤਿਨਚਾਰੌਗਹਿਤਿਹਲਯੋਭਖਿਯੋਤਾਕਹਜਾਇ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੌਹਾਂ (ਯਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ) ਉਸ (ਬਕਰੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪਕੜ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਖਾਇਆ।
The thieves captured that goat and took it home to cook and eat.
ਅਜਿਤਜਭਜਿਜੜਿਘਰਗਯੋਛਲਨਹਿਲਖ੍ਯੋਬਨਾਇ॥੬॥
(ਉਹ) ਮੂਰਖ ਬਕਰਾ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਭਜ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ, (ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਛਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ ॥੬॥

ਜੋਧਨਦੇਵਜਾਟਇਕਰਹੈ॥
ਇਕ ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇਵ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੱਟ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
There lived a Jat, the peasant, named Jodan Dev.
ਮੈਨਕੁਅਰਿਤਿਹਤ੍ਰਿਯਜਗਅਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਮੈਨ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸੀ।
He had a wife who was addressed by the name of Maan Kunwar.
ਜੋਧਨਦੇਵਸੋਇਜਬਜਾਵੈ॥
ਜਦ ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇਵ ਸੌਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ
When Jodan Dev would go to sleep,
ਜਾਰਤੀਰਤਬਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਸਿਧਾਵੈ॥੧॥
ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਯਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੧॥
she would go out to her paramour.(1)
ਜਬਸੋਯੋਜੋਧਨਬਡਭਾਗੀ॥
ਜਦ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜੋਧਨ ਸੌਂ ਗਿਆ,
Once, when Jodan Dev was in slumber,
ਤਬਹੀਮੈਨਕੁਅਰਿਜੀਜਾਗੀ॥
ਤਦ ਹੀ ਮੈਨ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਜਾਗ ਪਈ।
Maan Kunwar woke up.
ਪਤਿਕੌਛੋਰਿਜਾਰਪੈਗਈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਯਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਗਈ।
Leaving her husband, she came to her lover but when she returned
ਲਾਗੀਸਾਧਿਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਪਰਗਈ॥੨॥
(ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਨਜ਼ਰ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੰਨ੍ਹ ਉਤੇ ਪਈ ॥੨॥
she noticed her house broken into.(2)
ਤਬਗ੍ਰਿਹਪਲਟਿਬਹੁਰਿਵਹੁਆਈ॥
ਤਦ ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤ ਕੇ ਆਈ
ਜੋਧਨਦੇਵਹਿਦਯੋਜਗਾਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇਵ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਕੇ ਜਗਾਇਆ
On entering the house she woke Jodan Dev up and asked,
ਤੇਰੀਮਤਿਕੌਨਕਹੁਹਰੀ॥
(ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ-) ਤੇਰੀ ਮਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਾਰੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ
‘What had happened to your senses?
ਲਾਗੀਸੰਧਿਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਨਹਿਪਰੀ॥੩॥
ਕਿ ਸੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ (ਉਸ ਉਤੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
House is being burgled and you don’t know.’(3)
ਜੋਧਨਜਗਤਲੋਗਸਭਜਾਗੇ॥
ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇ ਜਾਗਣ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਗ ਗਏ।
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਤੇਨਿਕਸਿਚੋਰਤਬਭਾਗੇ॥
ਤਦ ਚੋਰ ਘਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ ਭਜ ਗਏ।
Along with Jodan, other people awoke too and the thieves tried to slip out of the house.
ਕੇਤੇਹਨੇਬਾਧਿਕਈਲਏ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਈ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਕਈ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਏ
ਕੇਤੇਤ੍ਰਸਤਭਾਜਿਕੈਗਏ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਿਆਂ ਭਜ ਗਏ ॥੪॥
Some were killed and some managed to escape.(4)
ਜੋਧਨਦੇਵਫੁਲਿਤਭਯੋ॥
ਜੋਧਨ ਦੇਵ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ
ਮੇਰੌਧਾਮਰਾਖਿਇਹਲਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
Jodan Dev was satisfied that his woman had saved the house.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੀਅਧਿਕਬਡਾਈਕਰੀ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਜੜਕੌਕਛੂਖਬਰਨਹਿਪਰੀ॥੫॥
(ਪਰ ਉਸ) ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ (ਵਾਸਤਵਿਕਤਾ ਦੀ) ਕੁਝ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥
He praised the woman but could not fathom the real secret.(5)

ਧਾਮਉਬਾਰਿਯੋਆਪਨੋਕੀਨੋਚੋਰਖੁਆਰ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
She saved her house and degraded the thieves.
ਮੀਤਜਗਾਯੋਆਨਿਕੈਧੰਨਿਸੁਮੈਨਕੁਆਰ॥੬॥
ਮਿਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਣ ਕੇ ਜਗਾਇਆ। (ਇਹ) ਮੈਨ ਕੁਅਰਿ (ਸਚਮੁਚ) ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
Maan Kunwar, the manipulator of all this, is praiseworthy.

ਏਕਦਿਵਸਸ੍ਰੀਕਪਿਲਮੁਨਿਇਕਠਾਕਿਯੋਪਯਾਨ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਪਿਲ ਮੁਨੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਗਏ।
Once Sri Kapil Munni, the recluse, went into a locality.
ਹੇਰਿਅਪਸਰਾਬਸਿਭਯੋਸੋਤੁਮਸੁਨਹੁਸੁਜਾਨ॥੧॥
(ਉਹ ਇਕ) ਅਪੱਛਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਹੇ ਸੁਜਾਨ (ਰਾਜੇ!) ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਹ (ਕਥਾ) ਸੁਣੋ ॥੧॥
There, he was overpowered by a charming woman. Now listen to their story.(1)
ਰੰਭਾਨਾਮਾਅਪਸਰਾਤਾਕੋਰੂਪਨਿਹਾਰਿ॥
ਰੰਭਾ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਪੱਛਰਾ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ
Fascinated by the charm ofthe nymph called Rumba,
ਮੁਨਿਕੋਗਿਰਿਯੋਤੁਰਤਹੀਬੀਰਜਭੂਮਿਮਝਾਰ॥੨॥
ਮੁਨੀ ਦਾ ਵੀਰਜ ਤੁਰਤ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਡਿਗ ਪਿਆ ॥੨॥
Munni’s semen instantly dropped on the ground.(2)
ਗਿਰਿਯੋਰੇਤਿਮੁਨਿਕੇਜਬੈਰੰਭਾਰਹਿਯੋਅਧਾਨ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੁਨੀ ਦਾ ਵੀਰਜ ਡਿਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਰੰਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਗਰਭ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
When Munni’s semen fell on the ground, then Rumba managed to seize it.
ਡਾਰਿਸਿੰਧੁਸਰਿਤਾਤਿਸੈਸੁਰਪੁਰਕਰਿਯੋਪਯਾਨ॥੩॥
(ਉਸ ਗਰਭ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹ) ਸਿੰਧ ਨਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਟ ਕੇ ਸਵਰਗ ਲੋਕ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ॥੩॥
From that a girl took birth, which she washed away in the River Sindh and, herself, departed to the heaven.(3)

ਬਹਤਬਹਤਕੰਨਿਯਾਤਹਆਈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਕੰਨਿਆ ਰੁੜ੍ਹਦਿਆਂ ਰੁੜ੍ਹਦਿਆਂ ਉਥੇ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ
ਆਗੇਜਹਾਸਿੰਧਕੋਰਾਈ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਅਗੇ ਸਿੰਧ (ਖੇਤਰ) ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਸੀ।
Floating and floating, the girl reached where the Raja of Sindh was standing.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਦਤਸੋਨੈਨਨਿਹਾਰੀ॥
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਦੱਤ (ਰਾਜੇ) ਨੇ ਉਸ (ਕੰਨਿਆ) ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ।
ਤਹਤੇਕਾਢਿਸੁਤਾਕਰਿਪਾਰੀ॥੪॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਨਦੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਢਵਾ ਕੇ ਧੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
When Braham Datt (the Raja) saw her, he took her oUt and raised her as his own daughter.(4)
ਸਸਿਯਾਸੰਖਿਯਾਤਾਕੀਧਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ 'ਸਸਿਯਾ' (ਸਸੀ) ਰਖਿਆ
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਸੋਸੇਵਾਕਰੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
She was given the name of Sassi Kala, and she was amply facilitated.
ਜਬਜੋਬਨਤਾਕੇਹ੍ਵੈਆਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਉਹ ਜੋਬਨਵਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ
ਤਬਰਾਜੇਇਹਮੰਤ੍ਰਪਕਾਯੋ॥੫॥
ਤਦ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ ॥੫॥
When she came off the age the Raja thought over and decided,(5)
ਪੁੰਨੂਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਕੌਚੀਨੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਲਈ ਵਰ ਵਜੋਂ) ਪੁੰਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚਿਆ
ਪਠੈਦੂਤਤਾਕੋਇਕਦੀਨੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਲ ਇਕ ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
To entice Raja Punnu (for marriage), he sent his emissary and called him over.
ਪੁੰਨੂਬਚਨਸੁਨਤਤਹਆਯੋ॥
ਪੁੰਨੂੰ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਉਥੇ ਆਇਆ
