ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਸੁੱਧ ਸੌ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਸਕੇ।

ਮੇਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੋਹਨ ਰਾਇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਘਰ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ ॥੧੦॥

ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਕਰਿਭਾਵਲਡਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਭਾਵਾਂ ਭਰੇ ਲਾਡ ਕੀਤੇ।
‘Mohan gave you pleasure by indulging in various gesticulations.
ਤਬਤੁਮਕਛੁਸੰਕਾਨਬਿਚਾਰੀ॥
ਤਦ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਸ਼ੰਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਨ ਦੇ
ਭੂਖਨਬਸਤ੍ਰਪਾਗਦੈਡਾਰੀ॥੧੧॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਜ਼ੇਵਰ, ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੱ ਤੇ ॥੧੧॥
‘You were never in doubt and you gave him all your ornaments, the clothes and the turban.(11)
ਤਾਸੋਅਧਿਕਕੇਲਤੈਕੀਨੋ॥
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੇਲ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕੀਤੀ
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਤਾਕੌਰਸਲੀਨੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਿਆ।
‘You made love with him lavishly,
ਬੀਤੀਰੈਨਿਪ੍ਰਾਤਜਬਭਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਵੇਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
ਤਬਤੁਮਤਾਹਿਬਿਦਾਕਰਿਦਯੋ॥੧੨॥
ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੨॥
and when the day broke you bade him good-bye.(12)
ਤਬਤੇਅਧਿਕਮਤਹ੍ਵੈਸੋਯੋ॥
ਤਦ ਤੋਂ (ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਅਧਿਕ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੌਂ ਗਏ
ਪਰੇਪਰੇਆਧੋਦਿਨਖੋਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਿਆਂ ਪਿਆਂ ਅੱਧਾ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਗਿਆ।
‘Since, then, you have been sleeping, nonchalantly, and half the day has gone by.
ਮਿਟਿਮਦਗਯੋਜਬੈਸੁਧਪਾਈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਸ਼ ਆ ਗਈ,
ਤਬਮੋਕੌਤੈਲਯੋਬੁਲਾਈ॥੧੩॥
ਤਦ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧੩॥
When the effect ofthe intoxication wore off, you called me over.’(13)
ਯਹਸੁਨਿਬਾਤਰੀਝਿਜੜਗਯੋ॥
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਉਹ) ਮੂਰਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
ਛੋਰਿਭੰਡਾਰਅਧਿਕਧਨੁਦਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਖੋਲ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ (ਦੂਤ ਨੂੰ) ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The imbecile was appeased on learning this and, from his treasure, gave him lot of riches.
ਭੇਦਅਭੇਦਕਛੁਨੈਕੁਨਚੀਨੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਜਾਣਿਆ।
ਲੂਟ੍ਯੋਹੁਤੋਲੂਟਿਧਨੁਲੀਨੋ॥੧੪॥
(ਦੂਤ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਲੁਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਧਨ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਲੁਟ ਲਿਆ ॥੧੪॥
He did not distinguish between the truth and deception and squandered his wealth.(14)
ਯਹਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਵਹਨਿਤਿਬਨਾਵੈ॥
ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਉਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ
ਮਦਰੋਪ੍ਰਯਾਇਅਧਿਕਤਿਹਸ੍ਵਾਵੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਵਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Now (the emissary) set off on this design everyday, and put Beg into sleep with excessive wine.
ਸੁਧਿਬਿਨੁਭਯੋਤਾਹਿਜਬਜਾਨੈ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਸੁੱਧ ਵੇਖਦਾ
ਲੇਤਉਤਾਰਿਜੁਕਛੁਮਨੁਮਾਨੈ॥੧੫॥
ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ) ਉਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
When he would realize he was in deep slumber, he would do whatever he liked.(15)

ਉਹ (ਦੂਤ) ਰੋਜ਼ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ (ਤਾਸ ਬੇਗ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ।
Such Chritars could not be discerned by that idiotic and under the
ਮਦਰੋਅਧਿਕਪਿਵਾਇਕੈਮੂੰਡਮੂੰਡਲੈਜਾਇ॥੧੬॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪਿਲਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ) ਲੁਟ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੧੬॥

ਚਾਰਯਾਰਮਿਲਿਮਤਾਪਕਾਯੋ॥
ਚਾਰ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਮਤਾ ਪਕਾਇਆ
ਹਮਕੌਭੂਖਿਅਧਿਕਸੰਤਾਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੁਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਤੰਗ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
Four thieves cooked up a plan, as they were feeling very hungry.
ਤਾਤੇਜਤਨਕਛੂਅਬਕਰਿਯੈ॥
ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ (ਖਾਣੇ ਦਾ) ਕੁਝ ਉਪਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਕਰਾਯਾਮੂਰਖਕੋਹਰਿਯੈ॥੧॥
(ਮਾਰਗ ਉਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ) ਇਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਦਾ ਬਕਰਾ ਖੋਹ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
‘We should endeavour and steal a goat from an idiot.’(1)
ਕੋਸਕੋਸਲਗਿਠਾਢੇਭਏ॥
ਉਹ ਕੋਹ ਕੋਹ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਾਸਲੇ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ
ਮਨਮੈਇਹੈਬਿਚਾਰਤਭਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਲਿਆ
They all went and stood at a crossing and thought ofthe strategy (to rob a passing by man with a goat on his shoulders).
ਵਹਜਾਕੇਆਗੇਹ੍ਵੈਆਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅਗੋਂ ਲੰਘੇ,
ਤਿਨਤਾਸੋਇਹਭਾਤਿਸੁਨਾਯੋ॥੨॥
ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹੇ ॥੨॥
‘Who-so-ever (thief) faced him, would say like that,(2)
ਕਹਾਸੁਏਹਿਕਾਧੋਪੈਲਯੋ॥
ਇਸ (ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ) ਕਿਸ ਲਈ ਮੋਢੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਤੋਰੀਮਤਿਕੋਹ੍ਵੈਗਯੋ॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
‘What are you carrying on your shoulders? What has happened to your intelligence?
ਯਾਕੋਪਟਕਿਧਰਨਿਪਰਮਾਰੋ॥
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਟਕਾ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਟੋ
ਸੁਖਸੇਤੀਨਿਜਧਾਮਸਿਧਾਰੋ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਓ ॥੩॥
‘Throw it on the ground and go to your house peacefully.(3)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥

ਭਲੌਮਨੁਖਪਛਾਨਿਕੈਤੌਹਮਭਾਖਤਤੋਹਿ॥
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
‘Acknowledging you as a wise man, we are advising you.
ਕੂਕਰਤੈਕਾਧੈਲਯੋਲਾਜਲਗਤਹੈਮੋਹਿ॥੪॥
(ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਢੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
“You are carrying a dog on your shoulders and we feel ashamed of you.”(4)

ਚਾਰਿਕੋਸਮੂਰਖਜਬਆਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਚਾਰ ਕੋਹ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਇਆ
ਚਹੂੰਅਨਯੌਬਚਭਾਖਿਸੁਨਾਯੋ॥
(ਤਾਂ) ਚੌਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਇਹੋ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ।
When the foolish-man had travelled four miles, the four (thieves) repeated the same tactic.
ਸਾਚੁਸਮੁਝਿਲਾਜਤਚਿਤਭਯੋ॥
(ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੱਚ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਜਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ
ਬਕਰਾਸ੍ਵਾਨਿਜਾਨਿਤਜਿਦਯੋ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਕਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੫॥
He believed them to be true and threw down the goat deeming it to be dog.(5)
