ਅਸਟਨਦੀਜਿਹਠਾਮਿਲਿਗਈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਅੱਠ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਬਹਤੀਅਧਿਕਜੋਰਸੋਭਈ॥
ਉਥੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Where there was the confluence of eight rivulets, there always was thunderous aura.
ਠਟਾਸਹਿਰਬਸਿਯੋਤਹਭਾਰੋ॥
ਉਥੇ ਠੱਟਾ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਗਰ ਵਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ,
ਜਨਬਿਧਿਦੂਸਰਸ੍ਵਰਗਸੁਧਾਰੋ॥੧॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਵਿਧਾਤਾ ਨੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਵਰਗ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥
The town inhabited there seemed to be another heaven established by the Brahma, the Creator.(1)

ਤਹਾਧਾਮਪਤਿਸਾਹਕੇਜਲਨਨਾਮਾਪੂਤ॥
ਉਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਲਨ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ

ਸੂਰਤਿਸੀਰਤਿਮੈਅਧਿਕਬਿਧਿਨੈਸਜਿਯੋਸਪੂਤ॥੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਸੂਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਧਾਤਾ ਨੇ ਉਚੇਚਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
The king of that place had a son named Jallal.
ਜੋਅਬਲਾਤਾਕੌਲਖੈਰੀਝਰਹੈਮਨਮਾਹਿ॥
ਜੋ ਮੁਟਿਆਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦੀ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ
His countenance and temperament were as if created by God, Himself.(2)
ਗਿਰੇਮੂਰਛਨਾਹ੍ਵੈਧਰਨਿਤਨਿਕਰਹੈਸੁਧਿਨਾਹਿ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਛਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਡਿਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਸੁੱਧ ਬੁੱਧ ਨਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੩॥
Any female who looked at him, would feel immensely contented.
ਸਾਹਜਲਾਲਸਿਕਾਰਕੌਇਕਦਿਨਨਿਕਸਿਯੋਆਇ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਲਾਲ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਲਈ ਉਧਰ ਆ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ
She would even lose her consciousness and fell flat on the ground(3)
ਮ੍ਰਿਗਿਯਨਕੌਮਾਰਤਭਯੋਤਰਲਤੁਰੰਗਧਵਾਇ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਚੰਚਲ ਘੋੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਜਾ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ॥੪॥
Jallaal, the king, one day marched out for hunting,

ਚੌਪਈ:
And running his horses, chased and killed the deer.(4)
ਏਕਮਿਰਗਆਗੇਤਿਹਆਯੌ॥
ਇਕ ਹਿਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਘੋੜੇ) ਅਗੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
Chaupaee
ਤਿਹਪਾਛੇਤਿਨਤੁਰੈਧਵਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪਿਛੇ ਘੋੜਾ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
One deer crossed his way and he put his horse to pursue it.
ਛੋਰਿਸੈਨਐਸੇਵਹਧਾਯੋ॥
ਸੈਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਭਜਿਆ
ਸਹਿਰਬੂਬਨਾਕੇਮਹਿਆਯੋ॥੫॥
ਕਿ ਬੂਬਨਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ॥੫॥
He deserted his army and drifted towards the city of Boobna.(5)
ਅਧਿਕਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਜਬਤਾਹਿਸੰਤਾਯੋ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਿਆਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਤਾਇਆ
ਬਾਗਬੂਬਨਾਕੇਮਹਿਆਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਬੂਬਨਾ ਦੇ ਬਾਗ਼ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
When he became over thirsty, he came to the garden in Boobna.
ਪਾਨੀਉਤਰਿਅਸ੍ਵਤੇਪੀਯੋ॥
ਘੋੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਤਾ।
ਤਾਕੋਤਬਨਿੰਦ੍ਰਹਿਗਹਿਲੀਯੋ॥੬॥
ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਂਦਰ ਨੇ ਘੇਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੬॥
He dismounted, drank water and was overwhelmed by the sleep.(6)
ਤਬਤਹਸੋਇਰਹਿਯੋਸੁਖਪਾਈ॥
ਤਦ ਉਹ ਉਥੇ ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਸੌਂ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਭਈਸਾਝਅਬਲਾਤਹਆਈ॥
ਸ਼ਾਮ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਉਥੇ (ਇਕ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਆਈ।
He kept slumbering, and in the afternoon a lady came in.
ਅਮਿਤਰੂਪਜਬਤਾਹਿਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਸੀਮ ਰੂਪ (ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ) ਵੇਖਿਆ,
When she saw his enchanting features,
ਹਰਿਅਰਿਸਰਤਾਕੇਤਨਮਾਰਿਯੋ॥੭॥
ਤਾਂ ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਾਣ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥੭॥
the Cupids arrows pierced through her heart.(7)
ਤਾਕੌਰੂਪਹੇਰਿਬਸਭਈ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਗਈ
His radiance face captured her so much that she decided to turn into
ਬਿਨੁਦਾਮਨਚੇਰੀਹ੍ਵੈਗਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੰਮ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
his slave, even, without monetary reward.
ਤਾਕੀਲਗਨਚਿਤਮੈਲਾਗੀ॥
ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਲਗ ਗਈ
Devotion towards him sprung up in such intensity
ਨੀਦਭੂਖਸਿਗਰੀਤਿਹਭਾਗੀ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦਰ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੮॥
that she disregarded the need of food.(8)

ਜਾਕੇਲਾਗਤਚਿਤਮੈਲਗਨਪਿਯਾਕੀਆਨ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਆ ਲਗਦੀ ਹੈ,
Those who get their hearts permeated with love,
ਲਾਜਭੂਖਿਭਾਗਤਸਭੈਬਿਸਰਤਸਕਲਸਿਯਾਨ॥੯॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਭੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਜ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਭੁਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
They become shameless, their wisdom flies away and they relinquish the urge of eating.(9)
ਜਾਦਿਨਪਿਯਪ੍ਯਾਰੇਮਿਲੈਸੁਖਉਪਜਤਮਨਮਾਹਿ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who attain love, they are endowed with bliss,
ਤਾਦਿਨਸੋਸੁਖਜਗਤਮੈਹਰਪੁਰਹੂੰਮੈਨਾਹਿ॥੧੦॥
ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਵਰਗ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
And ecstasy, which they cannot find even in heaven.(10)
ਜਾਕੇਤਨਬਿਰਹਾਬਸੈਲਗਤਤਿਸੀਕੋਪੀਰ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਯੋਗ (ਦੀ ਪੀੜ) ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਰਦ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
One, who faces separation, can only feel the brunt of pain.
ਜੈਸੇਚੀਰਹਿਰੌਲਕੋਪਰਤਗੋਲਪਰਭੀਰ॥੧੧॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੈਨਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ (ਅਥਵਾ ਝੁੰਡ) ਦੇ ਜਿਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੈਨਾ-ਦਲ ਉਤੇ ਭੀੜ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
Only a person with a boil on his body, can feel the degree of the ache.(11)
ਬੂਬਨਾਬਾਚ॥
ਬੂਬਨਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ:

ਕੌਨਦੇਸਏਸ੍ਵਰਜਤੂਕੌਨਦੇਸਕੋਰਾਵ॥
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਦੇਸ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਦੇਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈਂ?
‘Which country you come from and of which territory you are the king?
ਕ੍ਯੋਨਆਯੋਇਹਠੌਰਤੂਮੋਕਹਭੇਦਬਤਾਵ॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਥਾਨ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ? ਇਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਦ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਸ ॥੧੨॥
‘Why have you come here? Please tell me all aboUt you.’(12)

ਖਿਲਤਅਖੇਟਕਇਹਠਾਆਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਇਥੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
‘I am the son ofthe king of the country ofThatta and have come here for hunting.
ਪਿਯਤਪਾਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋਸ੍ਵੈਗਯੋ॥
ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਥਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਥੇ) ਸੌਂ ਗਿਆ ਸਾਂ
ਅਬਤੁਮਰੋਦਰਸਨਮੁਹਿਭਯੋ॥੧੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
‘After drinking water, being too tired, I wen t to sleep, and now I am having your glimpse.’(l3)
