ਅਧਿਕਰੀਝਿਨਿਸਚਰਹਿਉਚਾਰੋ॥
ਦੈਂਤ ਨੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ
ਦੇਉਵਹੈਜੋਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਬਿਚਾਰੋ॥੯॥
ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਜੋ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਚੇਂਗੀ, ਉਹੀ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ॥੯॥
‘Whatever you desire for and whatever you ask for, you will be granted.’(9)
ਜਬਦੋਤੀਨਿਬਾਰਤਿਨਕਹਿਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰ ਕਿਹਾ
ਤਾਪੈਅਧਿਕਰੀਝਿਕੈਰਹਿਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਰੀਝ ਗਿਆ।
When the devil asked a couple of times, then, with great efforts, she said,
ਕਹਿਯੋਅਸੁਰਲਾਗਯੋਇਕਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੋ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ) ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੈਂਤ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਸਕੈਦੂਰਿਕਰਤੂਨਹਿਤਾਕੋ॥੧੦॥
(ਪਰ) ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
‘You cannot help me to get rid of my afflictions.’(10)
ਤਬਤਿਨਜੰਤ੍ਰਤੁਰਤੁਲਿਖਿਲੀਨੋ॥
ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਲਿਖ ਲਿਆ
ਲੈਤਾਕੋਕਰਭੀਤਰਦੀਨੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ
The demons immediately wrote an incantation and gave that to her,
ਜਾਕੋਤੂਇਕਬਾਰਦਿਖੈਹੈ॥
(ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ) ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਵਿਖਾਏਂਗੀ,
ਜਰਿਬਰਿਢੇਰਭਸਮਿਸੋਹ੍ਵੈਹੈ॥੧੧॥
ਉਹ ਸੜ ਬਲ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਦਾ ਢੇਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ ॥੧੧॥
‘Once you show it to anyone, that person will be annihilated.’(11)
ਤਾਕੈਕਰਤੇਜੰਤ੍ਰਲਿਖਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਇਕ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਲਿਖਵਾਇਆ
ਲੈਕਰਮੈਤਹਿਕੋਦਿਖਰਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
She took the incantation and keeping it her hand showed it to him.
ਜਬਸੁਜੰਤ੍ਰਦਾਨੋਲਖਿਲਯੋ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ
ਸੋਜਰਿਢੇਰਭਸਮਹ੍ਵੈਗਯੋ॥੧੨॥
(ਤਦ) ਉਹ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਦਾ ਢੇਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
As soon as he saw the writing, he was exterminated.(12)

ਦੇਵਰਾਜਜਿਹਦੈਤਕੌਜੀਤਸਕਤਨਹਿਜਾਇ॥
ਦੇਵਰਾਜ (ਇੰਦਰ) ਵੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਨਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
The devil, which could not be eliminated by superior human beings,
ਸੋਅਬਲਾਇਹਛਲਭਏਜਮਪੁਰਦਯੋਪਠਾਇ॥੧੩॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਛਲ ਨਾਲ ਜਮਲੋਕ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੩॥
Was despatched to the domain of death through the clever Chritar of the woman.(13)(1)

ਰਾਵੀਤੀਰਜਾਟਇਕਰਹੈ॥
ਰਾਵੀ (ਨਦੀ) ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਕ ਜੱਟ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ,
ਮਹੀਵਾਲਨਾਮਜਗਕਹੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਮੇਹੀਂਵਾਲ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
On the banks of river Ravi, a peasant Jat called Mahinwal used to live.
ਨਿਰਖਿਸੋਹਨੀਬਸਿਹ੍ਵੈਗਈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਗਈ
ਤਾਪੈਰੀਝਿਸੁਆਸਿਕਭਈ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਰੀਝ ਕੇ ਆਸ਼ਕ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੧॥
A woman named Sohani fell in love with him and came under his dominance.(1)
ਜਬਹੀਭਾਨਅਸਤਹ੍ਵੈਜਾਵੈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਡੁਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ,
ਤਬਹੀਪੈਰਿਨਦੀਤਹਆਵੈ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਨਦੀ ਤਰ ਕੇ ਉਥੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
At the Sunset, she used to swim across the river and there (to see him).
ਦ੍ਰਿੜਗਹਿਘਟਉਰਕੇਤਰਧਰੈ॥
ਉਹ ਘੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਛਾਤੀ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਕੜ ਲੈਂਦੀ
ਛਿਨਮਹਿਪੈਰਪਾਰਤਿਹਪਰੈ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਛਿਣ ਵਿਚ (ਨਦੀ) ਤਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੨॥
Holding an earthen pitcher in her hand she would jump in (the river) and arrive at the other side.(2)
ਏਕਦਿਵਸਉਠਿਕੈਜਬਧਾਈ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੀ
ਸੋਵਤਹੁਤੋਬੰਧੁਲਖਿਪਾਈ॥
ਤਾਂ ਸੁਤੇ ਪਏ ਭਰਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ।
One day when she ran out, her brother, who was slumbering there, saw her.
ਪਾਛੈਲਾਗਿਭੇਦਤਿਹਚਹਿਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਲਗ ਕੇ ਭੇਦ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹਿਆ,
ਕਛੂਸੋਹਨੀਤਾਹਿਨਲਹਿਯੋ॥੩॥
ਪਰ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ) ਪਤਾ ਨਾ ਚਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
He followed her and discovered the secret but Sohani did not realise.(3)
ਭੁਜੰਗਛੰਦ॥
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਛੰਦ:

ਛਕੀਪ੍ਰੇਮਬਾਲਾਤਿਸੀਠੌਰਧਾਈ॥
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ (ਉਹ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ
Imbued in love, she ran to the direction,
ਜਹਾਦਾਬਿਕੈਬੂਟਮੈਮਾਟਆਈ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਘੜਾ ਲੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਆਈ ਸੀ।
Where, under the bush, she had hidden the pitcher.
ਲੀਯੌਹਾਥਤਾਕੌਧਸੀਨੀਰਮ੍ਯਾਨੇ॥
ਉਸ (ਘੜੇ) ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੜ ਗਈ
She picked up the pitcher, jumped into the water,
ਮਿਲੀਜਾਇਤਾਕੌਯਹੀਭੇਦਜਾਨੇ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ) ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੀ। (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਨੇ) ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਭੇਦ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
And came to meet her lover but none could fathom the secret.(4)
ਮਿਲੀਜਾਇਤਾਕੌਫਿਰੀਫੇਰਿਬਾਲਾ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਪਰਤੀ,
ਦਿਪੈਚਾਰਿਸੋਭਾਮਨੋਆਗਿਜ੍ਵਾਲਾ॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਜੋਤੀਮਾਨ ਸੀ ਮਾਨੋ ਅੱਗ (ਦੀ ਲਾਟ) ਹੋਵੇ।
Thus she would go to meet him again and again, to quench her thirst of the fire of passion.
ਲਏਹਾਥਮਾਟਾਨਦੀਪੈਰਿਆਈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਘੜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਪਾਰ ਆ ਗਈ।
ਕੋਊਨਾਹਿਜਾਨੈਤਿਨੀਬਾਤਪਾਈ॥੫॥
(ਉਹ) ਸਮਝ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
She would row back with the pitcher, as if nothing had happened.(5)
ਭਯੋਪ੍ਰਾਤਲੈਕਾਚਮਾਟਾਸਿਧਾਯੋ॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ) ਕੱਚਾ ਘੜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਉਥੇ) ਗਿਆ।
ਤਿਸੈਡਾਰਿਦੀਨੋਉਸੇਰਾਖਿਆਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੇ) ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੱਚਾ ਘੜਾ ਉਥੇ ਰਖ ਆਇਆ।
(One day) Her brother reached there early in the morning with an unbaked earthen pitcher.
ਭਏਸੋਹਨੀਰੈਨਿਜਬਹੀਸਿਧਾਈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਤ ਪਈ ਤਾਂ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਤੁਰ ਪਈ
He broke into pieces the baked one and put the unbaked-one in its place.
ਵਹੈਮਾਟਲੈਕੇਛਕੀਪ੍ਰੇਮਆਈ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਹੋ (ਕੱਚਾ) ਘੜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ) ਆ ਗਈ ॥੬॥
The night fell, Sohani came and, taking that pitcher, plunged into water.(6)

(ਦੂਜੇ ਦਿਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਕੱਚਾ ਘੜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਨਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਠਿਲ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ) ਜਦੋਂ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਨਦੀ ਤਰ ਲਈ ਤਾਂ ਕੱਚਾ ਘੜਾ ਖੁਰ ਗਿਆ।
When she had swam about half way, the pitcher started to crumble
ਡੁਬਕੀਲੇਤੇਤਨਗਯੋਪ੍ਰਾਨਬਹੁਰਿਗੇਛੂਟਿ॥੭॥
ਡੁਬਕੀਆਂ ਲੈਂਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਏ ॥੭॥
And her soul abandoned her body.(7)
