ਰਾਝਨਹੀਰਪ੍ਰੇਮਮੈਰਹੈਏਕਹੀਹੋਇ॥
ਰਾਂਝਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੀਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
The love of Ranjha and Heer became synonymous of oneness.
ਕਹਿਬੇਕੌਤਨਏਕਹੀਲਹਿਬੇਕੋਤਨਦੋਇ॥੨੬॥
ਕਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਹੀ ਤਨ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਦੋ ਤਨ ਸਨ ॥੨੬॥
Although they were two bodies, they were one (in soul).(26)

ਐਸੀਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਪ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੀਭਈ॥
ਪ੍ਰਿਯਾ (ਹੀਰ) ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ
ਸਿਗਰੀਬਿਸਰਿਤਾਹਿਸੁਧਿਗਈ॥
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸੁੱਧ ਬੁੱਧ ਭੁਲ ਗਈ।
Inbueded in love, she was totally engrossed in the passion for her sweetheart.
ਰਾਝਾਜੂਕੇਰੂਪਉਰਝਾਨੀ॥
ਉਹ ਰਾਂਝੇ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਉਲਝ ਗਈ
ਲੋਕਲਾਜਤਜਿਭਈਦਿਵਾਨੀ॥੨੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਾਨੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੨੭॥
Entangled in Ranjha’s demean our she began to disregarded the normal social etiquettes.(27)
ਤਬਚੂਚਕਇਹਭਾਤਿਬਿਚਾਰੀ॥
ਤਦ ਚੂਚਕ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ
ਯਹਕੰਨ੍ਯਾਨਹਿਜਿਯਤਹਮਾਰੀ॥
ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਜੀਉਂਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇਗੀ।
(Then) Choochak (the father) thought his daughter wouldn’t survive.
ਅਬਹੀਯਹਖੇਰਾਕੋਦੀਜੈ॥
ਹੁਣ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਖੇੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇਈਏ।
ਯਾਮੈਤਨਿਕਢੀਲਨਹਿਕੀਜੈ॥੨੮॥
ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਢਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ॥੨੮॥
She should immediately be endowed to Khere (in-laws) without any delay.(28)
ਖੇਰਹਿਬੋਲਤੁਰਤੁਤਿਹਦਯੋ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਖੇੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰਤ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ (ਅਤੇ ਹੀਰ ਦਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੋਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਰਾਝਾਅਤਿਥਹੋਇਸੰਗਗਯੋ॥
ਰਾਂਝਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਗਿਆ।
Instantly, a messenger was sent and Ranjha accompanied disguised as an ascetic.
ਮਾਗਤਭੀਖਘਾਤਜਬਪਾਯੋ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਭਿਖ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਦਾ ਦਾਓ ਲਗਿਆ
ਲੈਤਾਕੋਸੁਰਲੋਕਸਿਧਾਯੋ॥੨੯॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਵਰਗ ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੨੯॥
During his begging, when he found opportunity, he took Heer and departed for the domain of death.(29)
ਰਾਝਾਹੀਰਮਿਲਤਜਬਭਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਹੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਂਝਾ ਮਿਲੇ
ਚਿਤਕੇਸਕਲਸੋਕਮਿਟਿਗਏ॥
ਤਾਂ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
When Ranjha and Heer had met, they had found bliss.
ਹਿਯਾਕੀਅਵਧਿਬੀਤਿਜਬਗਈ॥
ਇਥੋਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਆਦ ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ
ਬਾਟਿਦੁਹੂੰਸੁਰਪੁਰਕੀਲਈ॥੩੦॥
ਤਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਵਰਗ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਪਕੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੩੦॥
All their afflictions were eliminated and they departed for the heavens.(30)

ਰਾਝਾਭਯੋਸੁਰੇਸਤਹਭਈਮੈਨਕਾਹੀਰ॥
ਉਥੇ ਰਾਂਝਾ ਇੰਦਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹੀਰ ਮੈਨਿਕਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ।
Ranjha turned into god Indra and Heer became Maneka,
ਯਾਜਗਮੈਗਾਵਤਸਦਾਸਭਕਬਿਕੁਲਜਸਧੀਰ॥੩੧॥
ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਵੀ-ਕੁਲ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਸਦਾ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਜਸ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩੧॥
And all the revered poets sang the songs in their praise.(31)(1)

ਪੋਠੋਹਾਰਿਨਾਰਿਇਕਰਹੈ॥
ਪੋਠੋਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ।
ਰੁਦ੍ਰਕਲਾਤਾਕੋਜਗਕਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕਲ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
In the country of Puthohar, a woman used to live, who was known as Ruder Kala.
ਤਿਹਗ੍ਰਿਹਰੋਜਖੁਦਾਈਆਵੈ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਮੁਲਾਣੇ ('ਖੁਦਾਈ') ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ
ਧਨਡਰਪਾਇਤਾਹਿਲੈਜਾਵੈ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਡਰਾਵਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਧਨ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧॥
Every day some (Muslim) priests used to come to her and take her wealth away after threatening her.(1)
ਇਕਦਿਨਇਨਕਛੁਧਨੁਨਹਿਦਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਧਨ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਕੋਪਖਦਾਇਨਕੇਮਨਭਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਮੁਲਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਆਇਆ।
Once, when she had been left with no money, the Maulana priests flew into a rage.
ਸਭਹੀਹਾਥਕੁਰਾਨਉਠਾਏ॥
ਸਭ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਉਠਾ ਲਿਆ
ਮਿਲਿਗਿਲਿਭਵਨਤਵਨਕੇਆਏ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆਏ ॥੨॥
They got together and came to her house.(2)
ਹਾਨਤਕਹਿਯੋਨਬੀਕੀਕਰੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਤੂੰ ਨੱਬੀ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ('ਹਾਨਤ') ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਯਹਸੁਨਿਬਚਨਨਾਰਿਅਤਿਡਰੀ॥
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰੀ।
(They said) ‘You have insulted the Prophet Mohammed,’ she was dreaded to hear this.
ਤਿਨਕੋਸਦਨਬੀਚਬੈਠਾਯੋ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਮੁਲਾਣਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ
ਖਾਨਮੁਹਬਤਸਾਥਜਤਾਯੋ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ) ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਦਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੩॥
She invited them and requested them to be seated and, then, sent message to Mohabat Khan (the ruler of the place).(3)
ਤਾਕੇਤੁਰਤਪਯਾਦੇਆਏ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤੁਰਤ ਪਿਆਦੇ ਆ ਗਏ
ਇਕਗ੍ਰਿਹਮੈਬੈਠਾਇਛਿਪਾਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਘਰ (ਕਮਰੇ) ਵਿਚ ਲੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਬਿਠਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Then the Turk (Muslim) spies came and she accommodated them secretly in a room there.
ਖਾਨਾਭਲੋਤਿਨਾਗੇਰਾਖ੍ਯੋ॥
ਖਾਣਾ (ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਮੁਲਾਣਿਆਂ) ਦੇ ਅਗੇ ਪਰੋਸਿਆ
ਆਪੁਖਦਾਇਨਸੋਯੋਭਾਖ੍ਯੋ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਮੁਲਾਣਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ॥੪॥
They (the raiders) were already there; she had served them the dainty foods. What she said, follows:(4)
ਹਾਨਤਮੈਨਨਬੀਕੀਕਰੀ॥
ਮੈਂ ਨੱਬੀ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਮੋਤੌਕਹੋਚੂਕਕਾਪਰੀ॥
ਦਸੋ, ਮੈਥੋਂ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਭੁਲ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
‘I have not insulted the prophet. Where else could I have gone wrong?
ਤਾਕੀਜੋਨਿੰਦਾਮੈਕਰੋ॥
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਾਂ
ਅਪਨੇਮਾਰਿਕਟਾਰੀਮਰੋ॥੫॥
ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਟਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥੫॥
‘If I have insult Him, I will kill myself with a dagger.(5)
ਜੋਕਛੁਲੈਨੋਹੋਇਸੁਲੀਜੈ॥
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਲੈਣਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਲਵੋ,
ਹਾਨਤਕੋਮੁਹਿਦੋਸੁਨਦੀਜੈ॥
ਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਨਾ ਥੋਪੋ।
‘Whatever you want, you take away from me but don’t accuse me for blasphemy.’
ਬਿਹਸਿਖੁਦਾਇਨਬਚਨਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਮੁਲਾਣਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਸ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ
ਧਨਲਾਲਚਹਮਚਰਿਤਸੁਧਾਰਿਯੋ॥੬॥
ਕਿ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
Then they said jovially, ‘We had devised this to pillage money out of you.(6)
