ਮਹਾਰਾਸਟ੍ਰਪਤਿਨਗਰਮੈਗਯੋਅਥਿਤਕੇਭੇਸ॥੩॥
ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੋਗੀ ('ਅਥਿਤ') ਦੇ ਭੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
He came to Maharashtra disguised as a mendicant.(3)

ਜਦ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਵਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਯਹੈਆਪਨੇਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ
When the Rani saw him, she contemplated in her mind,
ਜੋਗਿਨਯਹਰਾਜਾਸੋਲਹਿਯੈ॥
ਕਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਲੈ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
ਭੇਜਿਮਾਨੁਖਨਯਾਕੌਗਹਿਯੈ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜਵਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
That she would ask Raja to fetch the mendicant.(4)

ਭੇਜਿਮਾਨੁਖਨਗਹਿਲਯੋਲੀਨੋਧਾਮਬੁਲਾਇ॥
ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪਕੜਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਘਰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ।
She sent some people to catch him and bring him to her house.
ਦੁਹਿਤਾਦਈਬਿਵਾਹਿਕੈਜਾਨਿਦੇਸਕੌਰਾਇ॥੫॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) (ਕਿਸੇ) ਦੇਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਲੜਕੀ ਵਿਆਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੫॥
Considering him as the Raja of a country she (decided) to marry her daughter to him.(5)
ਬਚਨਸੁਨਤਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਿਸਿਭਰਿਯੋਛੋਡਿਰਾਮਕੋਜਾਪ॥
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਗਿਆ
On learning this, the Raja abandoned the meditation of Rama,
ਦੁਹਿਤਾਦਈਬਿਵਾਹਿਤਿਹਜਾਕੈਮਾਇਨਬਾਪ॥੬॥
(ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਲੜਕੀ ਵਿਆਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਪਿਓ ॥੬॥
And flew into a rage, why had she married the daughter to the man who has no father or mother.(6)
ਰਾਜਾਬਾਚ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ:

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਓ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਦੁਹਿਤਾਕਹੂਦੀਜਿਯਤਤਾਕੌ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਲੜਕੀ ਵਿਆਹ ਰਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
‘Who has no father or mother, why did she marry the daughter to him?
ਯਾਕੌਅਬੈਬਾਧਿਕਰਿਮਾਰੋ॥
ਇਸ (ਜੋਗੀ) ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਦਿਓ
ਰਾਨੀਦੁਹਤਾਸਹਿਤਸੰਘਾਰੋ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੜਕੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰ ਦਿਓ ॥੭॥
‘Now tie him, kill him and also terminate the Rani and the daughter.’(7)
ਰਾਨੀਬਚਨਸੁਨਤਡਰਿਗਈ॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਇਹ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਗਈ।
ਚੀਨਤਕਛੂਉਪਾਇਨਭਈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਉਪਾ ਸੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਰਿਹਾ
She was dreaded hearing the order and she could think nothing more
ਜਾਤੇਜਾਮਾਤਾਨਹਿਮਰਿਯੈ॥
ਜਿਸ (ਉਪਾ) ਨਾਲ ਜਵਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਏ
ਸੁਤਾਸਹਿਤਇਹਜਿਯਤਨਿਕਰਿਯੈ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਲੜਕੀ ਸਮੇਤ ਇਹ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਏ ॥੮॥
Than the means to save the son-in-law from death, and contemplated an escape for him and her daughter.(8)
ਰਾਨੀਏਕਮੰਗਾਇਪਿਟਾਰੋ॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਿਟਾਰਾ ਮੰਗਵਾਇਆ
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਦੁਹੂੰਕਨਾਰੇਡਾਰੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਸਿਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਿਠਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
She brought a big basket and asked them both to sit in there.
ਏਕਪਿਟਾਰੋਔਰਮੰਗਾਯੋ॥
ਇਕ ਪਿਟਾਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਮੰਗਵਾਇਆ
ਵਹਪਿਟਾਰਤਿਹਭੀਤਰਪਾਯੋ॥੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪਿਟਾਰਾ ਉਸ ਪਿਟਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਖਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੯॥
Then, she brought another large basket and placed the first one inside it.(9)

ਅੰਤਰਹੂੰਕੇਪਿਟਾਰਮੈਡਾਰੇਰਤਨਅਪਾਰ॥
ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਪਿਟਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਤਨ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
In the first inner basket, she put lot of precious stones,
ਤਿਹਢਕਨੌਦੈਦੁਤਿਯਮੈਦਈਮਿਠਾਈਡਾਰਿ॥੧੦॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਢਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਠਿਆਈ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੧੦॥
And in the second one she placed a great number of sweetmeats.(l0)

ਦੁਤਿਯਪਿਟਾਰਮਿਠਾਈਡਾਰੀ॥
ਦੂਜੇ ਪਿਟਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਠਿਆਈ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ
ਵਹਪਿਟਾਰਨਹਿਦੇਤਦਿਖਾਰੀ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਉਹ (ਅੰਦਰਲਾ) ਪਿਟਾਰਾ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
‘The second basket in which she had put sweetmeats, nothing else was visible.
ਸਭਕੋਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਸਿਰੀਨੀਆਵੈ॥
ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਮਠਿਆਈ ਹੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਤਾਕੋਭੇਦਨਕੋਉਪਾਵੈ॥੧੧॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
Every body thought it was full of sweetmeats and no body knew the secret.(11)
ਪਠੇਚੇਰਿਯਹਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਬੁਲਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ (ਰਾਣੀ) ਨੇ ਦਾਸੀ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
ਗਹਿਬਹਿਯਾਸਭਸਦਨਦਿਖਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਾਂਹ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਮਹੱਲ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ।
Now she sent a maid to call Raja. Leading him, she took him around the whole household (and said),
ਹਮਕਾਤੁਮਤੇਨੈਕਨਡਰਿਹੈ॥
ਕੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
ਬਿਨੁਤਵਕਹੇਸਗਾਈਕਰਿਹੈ॥੧੨॥
ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕਹੇ ਬਿਨਾ (ਅਸੀਂ) ਮੰਗਣੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
‘Aren’t we afraid of you? How could we arrange their engagement without your consent?’(12)
ਰਾਨੀਬਾਚ॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ:

ਚਿਤਕੋਸੋਕਨਿਵਾਰਿਕੈਰਾਵਕਚਹਿਰੀਜਾਹੁ॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਮਨ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਚਹਿਰੀ (ਦਰਬਾਰ) ਵਿਚ ਜਾਓ।
‘Now, Oh my Raja, dislodge all the doubts from your mind and go to the Court.
ਤਵਹਿਤਧਰੀਬਨਾਇਕੈਚਲਹੁਮਿਠਾਈਖਾਹੁ॥੧੩॥
(ਮੈਂ) ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਮਠਿਆਈ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ, ਚਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਓ ॥੧੩॥
‘I have prepared sweetmeats for you, come and relish some.’(13)

ਛੋਰਿਪਿਟਾਰਿਪਕਵਾਨਖਵਾਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਪਿਟਾਰਾ ਖੋਲ ਕੇ ਪਕਵਾਨ (ਮਠਿਆਈ) ਖਵਾਇਆ।
ਵਹਕਛੁਭੇਦਰਾਇਨਹਿਪਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ।
After opening the basket she served him viands but he could not comprehend the secret.
ਪੁਨਿਇਹਕਹਿਯੋਦਾਨਕਰਿਦੀਜੈ॥
(ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ) ਫਿਰ ਇਹ ਕਿਹਾ, ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ!
ਮੇਰੋਕਹਿਯੋਮਾਨਨ੍ਰਿਪਲੀਜੈ॥੧੪॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਇਸ (ਮਠਿਆਈ) ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿਓ ॥੧੪॥
‘Now, my Raja, acquiescing to my request, you give out this with blessings.’(14)
ਜਬਪਿਟਾਰਤਿਹਛੋਰਿਦਿਖਾਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਿਟਾਰਾ ਖੋਲ ਕੇ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ
ਅਤਿਡਰਜਾਮਾਤਾਮਨਆਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਜਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
When she opened the basket, the son-in-law was terrified,
