ਯਾਕੇਧਨਛੋਡੌਗ੍ਰਿਹਨਾਹੀ॥੫॥
ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ॥੫॥
He resolved in his mind, ‘I will not now leave any wealth for her.’(5)

ਉਸ (ਗੁਜਰ) ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਤਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਲਿਖੀ
He wrote a letter on behalf of the lover,
ਏਕਅਤਿਥਕੋਹਾਥਦੈਪਠੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੇਧਾਮ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਸਾਧ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੬॥
And through a friend sent to the woman.(6)

ਜਬਪਤਿਯਾਤਿਨਛੋਰਿਬਚਾਈ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਵਾਈ
ਮੀਤਨਾਮਸੁਨਿਕੰਠਲਗਾਈ॥
ਤਾਂ ਮਿਤਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲਈ।
When she listened to the letter and hearing the lover’s name she embraced it.
ਯਹੈਯਾਰਿਲਿਖਿਤਾਹਿਪਠਾਯੋ॥
ਯਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਲਿਖ ਭੇਜਿਆ
ਤੁਮਬਿਨੁਅਧਿਕਕਸਟਹਮਪਾਯੋ॥੭॥
ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
The lover had expressed that, without her he was in great distress.(7)
ਪਤਿਯਾਮੈਲਖਿਯਹੈਪਠਾਯੋ॥
ਚਿੱਠੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਲਿਖ ਭੇਜਿਆ
ਤੁਮਬਿਨਹਮਸਭਕਿਛੁਬਿਸਰਾਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
It was mentioned in the letter, ‘I am lost without you,
ਹਮਰੀਸੁਧਿਆਪਨਤੁਮਲੀਜਹੁ॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਲੈ
ਕਛੁਧਨੁਕਾਢਿਪਠੈਮੁਹਿਦੀਜਹੁ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਧਨ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ॥੮॥
‘Now you must take care of me and send me some money to enable me to live.’(8)

ਸੁਨਤਬਾਤਮੂਰਖਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਚਿਤਮੈਭਈਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ੍ਯ॥
(ਇਹ) ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
Listening to all this, the foolish woman was very much delighted,
ਮੀਤਚਿਤਾਰਿਯੋਆਜੁਮੁਹਿਧਰਨੀਤਲਹੌਂਧੰਨ੍ਯ॥੯॥
(ਸੋਚਣ ਲਗੀ ਕਿ) ਅਜ ਮਿਤਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਮੈਂ) ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਧੰਨ ਹਾਂ ॥੯॥
And thought, ‘I am very lucky that my lover has remembered me.’(9)

ਭੇਜਿਕਾਹੂਤ੍ਰਿਯਇਹੈਸਿਖਾਯੋ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ
ਲਿਖਿਪਤਿਯਾਮੈਯਹੈਪਠਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਲਿਖ ਭੇਜਿਆ
The woman told the messenger, ‘I have explained in the letter,
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਸਮੈਪਿਛਵਾਰੇਐਹੌ॥
ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ
ਦੁਹੂੰਹਾਥਭਏਤਾਲਬਜੈਹੌ॥੧੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾੜੀ ਵਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ ॥੧੦॥
‘He should come early in morning at the back of the house and clap his hands twice.’(10)
ਜਬਤਾਰੀਸ੍ਰਵਨਨਸੁਨਿਪੈਯਹੁ॥
ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ (ਤੂੰ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾੜੀ (ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼) ਸੁਣੇਗੀ
ਤੁਰਤੁਤਹਾਆਪਨਉਠਿਐਯਹੁ॥
ਤਾਂ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਆਪ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਉਥੇ ਆ ਜਾਈਂ।
‘When I will hear the clap with my own ears, I will immediately proceed to the place.
ਕਾਧਉਪਰਿਕਰਿਥੈਲੀਲੈਯਹੁ॥
ਕੰਧ ਉਪਰ ਥੈਲੀ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਰਖ ਦੇਈਂ।
ਮੇਰੋਕਹਿਯੋਮਾਨਿਤ੍ਰਿਯਲੈਯਹੁ॥੧੧॥
ਹੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ! ਮੇਰਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੰਨ ਲਈਂ ॥੧੧॥
‘I will place the bag (containing money) on the wall and, I insist, he must take it away.(11)
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਸਮੈਤਾਰੀਤਿਨਕਰੀ॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤਾੜੀ ਵਜਾਈ।
ਸੁਧੁਨਿਕਾਨਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੇਪਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਇਤਸਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਈ।
In the morning he clapped his hands, which the lady heard,
ਥੈਲੀਕਾਧਊਪਰਕਰਿਡਾਰੀ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਥੈਲੀ ਕੰਧ ਉਪਰ ਰਖ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਭੇਦਨਲਖ੍ਯੋਦੈਵਕੀਮਾਰੀ॥੧੨॥
ਪਰ ਦੈਵ ਦੀ ਮਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
She placed the bag on the wall to collect, but unlucky one did not know the secret.(12)

ਯੌਹੀਬਾਰਛਿਸਾਤਕਰਿਲਯੋਦਰਬੁਸਭਛੀਨ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਛੇ ਸੱਤ ਵਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਤੋਂ) ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਹਥਿਆ ਲਿਆ।
By repeating this action for six or seven time, she lost all her wealth,
ਭੇਦਨਮੂਰਖਤਿਯਲਖ੍ਯੋਕਹਾਜਤਨਇਹਕੀਨ॥੧੩॥
ਉਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ (ਪਤੀ) ਨੇ ਕੀ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
And the foolish woman did not discern the real mystery.

ਯਾਹੀਜਤਨਸਕਲਧਨਹਰਿਯੋ॥
ਇਸ ਯਤਨ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਗੁਜਰ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਹਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਰਾਨੀਹੁਤੇਰੰਕਤਹਕਰਿਯੋ॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Proceeding on this course, the Rani was made money-less.
ਹਾਥਮਿਤ੍ਰਕੇਦਰਬੁਨਆਯੋ॥
(ਉਹ) ਧਨ ਮਿਤਰ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ।
ਨਾਹਕਅਪਨੋਮੂੰਡਮੁੰਡਾਯੋ॥੧੪॥
ਵਿਅਰਥ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਮੁੰਨਵਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧੪॥
Neither the friend attained anything rather he got his head shaved off without any purpose (faced humiliation).(14)(1)

In the country of Maharashtra, there lived a Raja named Maharashter.
ਦਰਬੁਬਟਾਵੈਗੁਨਿਜਨਨਕਰਤਕਬਿਨਕੋਭਾਵ॥੧॥
ਉਹ ਗੁਣਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਵੰਡਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਵੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਨੇਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥

ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ।
Indra Mati was his senior Rani who was acclaimed to be most beautiful ill the world.
ਅਤਿਰਾਜਾਤਾਕੇਬਸਿਰਹੈ॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
ਜੋਵਹੁਕਹੈਵਹੈਨ੍ਰਿਪਕਹੈ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਉਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ, ਰਾਜਾ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
Raja was always under her command and he would act the way she dictated.(2)
