ਬਨਿਕਏਕਬਾਨਾਰਸੀਬਿਸਨਦਤਤਿਹਨਾਮ॥
ਬਨਾਰਸ ਦਾ ਬਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੱਤ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਬਨੀਆ ਸੀ।
The name of a Shah of Benares was Bishan Datt.
ਬਿਸ੍ਵਮਤੀਤਾਕੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਧਨਜਾਕੋਬਹੁਧਾਮ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਸ੍ਵ ਮਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
He had lot of wealth; Bisva Mati was his wife.(1)

ਬਨਿਯੋਹੇਤਬਨਿਜਕੋਗਯੋ॥
ਬਨੀਆ ਵਪਾਰ ਲਈ (ਕਿਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ) ਗਿਆ
ਮੈਨਦੁਖ੍ਯਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੋਅਤਿਦਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ (ਪਿਛੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਕੀਤਾ।
The Shah once went out on a business and the wife became very distressed with the urge of sex.
ਤਿਹਤ੍ਰਿਯਪੈਤੇਰਹਿਯੋਨਜਾਈ॥
ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਗਿਆ
ਕੇਲਕਿਯੋਇਕਪੁਰਖਬੁਲਾਈ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਕੇਲ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
She could not control herself and called in a man for love-making.
ਕੇਲਕਮਾਤਗਰਭਰਹਿਗਯੋ॥
ਸਹਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਰਭ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਕੀਨੇਜਤਨਦੂਰਿਨਹਿਭਯੋ॥
ਅਨੇਕ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਡਿਗ ਨਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
With sex-play she became pregnant and, in spite of hard efforts she could not abort.
ਨਵਮਾਸਨਪਾਛੇਸੁਤਜਾਯੋ॥
ਨੌ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਬਾਦ (ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਤਵਨਹਿਦਿਵਸਬਨਿਕਘਰਆਯੋ॥੩॥
ਉਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਉਹ ਬਨੀਆ ਵੀ ਘਰ ਪਰਤ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥
After nine months a son was born, and that day the Shah came back as well.(3)
ਬਨਿਕਕੋਪਕਰਿਬਚਨਸੁਨਾਯੋ॥
ਬਨੀਏ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ,
ਕਛੁਤ੍ਰਿਯਤੈਬਿਭਚਾਰਕਮਾਯੋ॥
ਹੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ! (ਤੂੰ) ਕੁਝ ਵਿਭਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
The Shah, in right fury, asked, ‘Oh, woman you have indulged in debauchery.
ਭੋਗਕਰੇਬਿਨੁਪੂਤਨਹੋਈ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਭੋਗ ਕੀਤੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਬਾਲਬ੍ਰਿਧਜਾਨਤਸਭਕੋਈ॥੪॥
(ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਸਾਰੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
‘Without making-love a son cannot be born, as all the young and old know this.’(4)
ਸੁਨਹੁਸਾਹੁਮੈਕਥਾਸੁਨਾਊ॥
(ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ-) ਹੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਜੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਗੱਲ ਦਸਦੀ ਹਾਂ
ਤੁਮਰੇਚਿਤਕੋਭਰਮੁਮਿਟਾਊ॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਚਿਤ ਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
‘Listen, my Shah, I will tell you the story and it will eradicate all the doubts from your heart.
ਇਕਜੋਗੀਤੁਮਰੇਗ੍ਰਿਹਆਯੋ॥
ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਘਰ ਇੱਕ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਇਆ
ਤਿਹਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਤੇਗ੍ਰਿਹਸੁਤਪਾਯੋ॥੫॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੫॥
‘A yogi came in our house in your absence, and due to his benevolence this son is born.’(5)

ਮੁਰਜਨਾਥਜੋਗੀਹੁਤੋਸੋਆਯੋਇਹਧਾਮ॥
ਮੁਰਜ ਨਾਥ (ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ) ਜੋਗੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ।
‘Murj Nath Jogi had come to our house,
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਭੋਗਮੋਸੌਕਿਯੌਸੁਤਦੀਨੋਗ੍ਰਿਹਰਾਮ॥੬॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਭੋਗ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੬॥
‘He made love with me through vision and gave me this child.(6)
ਬਨਿਕਬਚਨਸੁਨਿਚੁਪਰਹਿਯੋਮਨਮੈਭਯੋਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ੍ਯ॥
ਬਾਨੀਆ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਚੁਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ।
The Shah, after learning this, was satisfied and shut himself.
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਭੋਗਜਿਨਿਸੁਤਦਿਯੌਧਰਨੀਤਲਸੋਧੰਨ੍ਯ॥੭॥
ਉਹ (ਜੋਗੀ) ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ-ਭੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
He commended the yogi who had endowed the boy through the vision.(7)(1)
ਇਤਿਸ੍ਰੀਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਭੂਪਸੰਬਾਦੇਉਨਾਸੀਵੋਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਸਮਾਪਤਮਸਤੁਸੁਭਮਸਤੁ॥੭੯॥੧੩੩੭॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਬਿੰਦ੍ਰਾਬਨਗ੍ਰਿਹਨੰਦਕੇਕਾਨ੍ਰਹਲਯੋਅਵਤਾਰ॥
ਬਿੰਦਰਾਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਕਾਨ੍ਹ ਨੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
In Brindaban, in the house of Nand, Krishna manifested,
ਤੀਨਿਲੋਕਜਾਕੋਸਦਾਨਿਤਿਉਠਿਕਰਤਜੁਹਾਰ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨੋ ਲੋਕ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧॥
And all the three regions sprung up to pay their obeisance.(I)

ਸਭਗੋਪੀਤਾਕੇਗੁਨਗਾਵਹਿ॥
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੋਪੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ
ਨਿਤਿਯਕਿਸਨਕਹਸੀਸਝੁਕਾਵਹਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
All the Gopis, the milkmaids, sang in his praises and bowed their heads.
ਮਨਮਹਿਬਸ੍ਯੋਪ੍ਰੇਮਅਤਿਭਾਰੀ॥
(ਉਸ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਮਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ
ਤਨਮਨਦੇਤਅਪਨੋਵਾਰੀ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ (ਉਸ ਉਤੇ) ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੨॥
In their minds, love descended and they willed to sacrifice upon him, both body and soul.(2)
ਰਾਧਾਨਾਮਗੋਪਿਇਕਰਹੈ॥
(ਉਥੇ) ਰਾਧਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਗੋਪੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਮੁਖਤੇਨਿਤਿਕਹੈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਮੁਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ।
There was one Gopi, named Radha, who meditated pronouncing ‘Krishna, Krishna.’
ਜਗਨਾਯਕਸੌਪ੍ਰੇਮਲਗਾਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲਗਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ
ਸੂਤਸਿਧਨਕੀਭਾਤਿਬਢਾਯੋ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਧਾਂ (ਦੀ ਸਾਧਨਾ) ਵਾਂਗ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਡੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
She fell in love with Krishna and expanded the string of her love like anaustere.(3)

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਮੁਖਤੇਕਹੈਛੋਰਿਧਾਮਕੋਕਾਮ॥
ਘਰ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਾਰ ਛਡ ਕੇ (ਉਹ ਸਦਾ) ਮੁਖ ਤੋਂ 'ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ' ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ
Abandoning all the household work, she would always recount, ‘Krishna. Krishna.’
ਨਿਸਦਿਨਰਟਤਬਿਹੰਗਜ੍ਯੋਜਗਨਾਯਕਕੋਨਾਮ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਪੰਛੀ (ਪਪੀਹੇ) ਵਾਂਗ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ) ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰਟਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੪॥
And, day in and day out, she would repeat his name like a parrot.(4)

ਤ੍ਰਾਸਨਪਿਤੁਮਾਤਾਕੋਕਰੈ॥
ਉਹ ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਰਦੀ
ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਮੁਖਤੇਉਚਰੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੇਂ 'ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ' ਉਚਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ।
She never cared about her mother or father, and went on reciting, ‘Krishna, Krishna.’
ਹੇਰਨਿਤਾਹਿਨਿਤਉਠਿਆਵੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਨਿੱਤ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦੀ
ਨੰਦਜਸੋਮਤਿਦੇਖਿਲਜਾਵੈ॥੫॥
ਪਰ ਨੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਜਸੋਧਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਲਜਾ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੫॥
She would go every day to see him, but she blushed on seeing Nand and Yashoda.(5)
ਸਵੈਯਾ॥

ਜੋਬਨਜੇਬਜਗੇਅਤਿਸੁੰਦਰਜਾਤਜਰਾਵਜੁਰੀਕਹਨਾਤੈ॥
(ਉਸ ਰਾਧਾ ਦੇ) ਜੋਬਨ ਦੀ ਛਬੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ੋਭਾਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਸੀ। (ਉਹ) ਸਜ-ਧਜ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਾਰਨ ('ਨਾਤੇ') (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਘਰ) ਗਈ।
His profile was exquisite, and his body was adorned with ornaments.
ਅੰਗਹੁਤੇਬ੍ਰਿਜਲੋਗਸਭੇਹਰਿਰਾਇਬਨਾਇਕਹੀਇਕਬਾਤੈ॥
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਕੋਲ ਬ੍ਰਜ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਗ ਸਾਕ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ। (ਰਾਧਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਥੇ ਆਇਆ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ।
In the courtyard, all had gathered, when Krishna uttered something,
