ਮੋਰੇਧਾਮਪੂਤਬਿਧਿਦਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਾਮਜਵਾਈਨਾਮੁਜਤਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ 'ਧਾਮ ਜਵਾਈ' ਦਸਿਆ
Whose name was Ghar-jawai; she served him dainty foods.(4)
ਆਦਰੁਕੈਭੋਜਨਹਿਖਵਾਯੋ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਵਿਧਵਾ ਨੇ) ਬੜੇ ਆਦਰ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

ਐਸੀਭਾਤਿਬਰਿਸਜਬਬੀਤੀ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਦ ਇਕ ਸਾਲ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ,
ਵਹਤ੍ਰਿਯਦੁਖਤੇਭਈਨਿਚੀਤੀ॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਸਚਿੰਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
A year had gone by when she felt relieved of all her tribulations.
ਵਹਤਿਹਘਰਕੋਕਾਮੁਚਲਾਵੈ॥
ਉਹ (ਚੋਰ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਰ ਚਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ
ਬਿਧਵਾਬਧੂਖੇਦਨਹਿਪਾਵੈ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਧਵਾ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਖੇਚਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੫॥
The thief used to perform her all the domestic errands, and she never worried for any thing.(5)

ਕੇਤਿਕਦਿਨਤਹਚਲਿਗਯੋਤਾਕੀਸੁਤਾਚੁਰਾਇ॥
ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਬਾਦ ਉਹ (ਚੋਰ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਰਾ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ।
After some time he trammeled her daughter and took her away.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਰੋਵਤਕੁਟਵਾਰਕੇਤਟਚਟਕੂਕੀਜਾਇ॥੬॥
(ਉਹ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਝਟਪਟ ਕੋਤਵਾਲ ਕੋਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰੋਈ ॥੬॥
Crying and wailing she went to the city policeman.(6)

ਧਾਮਜਵਾਈਦੁਹਿਤਾਹਰੀ॥
(ਉਹ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੀ ਕਿ) 'ਘਰ-ਜਵਾਈ' ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਚੁਰਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਖਹਦੈਵਕਹਾਇਹਕਰੀ॥
ਵੇਖੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
She cried, ‘Live-in son-in-law has run away with my daughter.
ਸੂਰਉਦੋਤਗਯੋਨਹਿਆਯੋ॥
ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਵੇਲੇ (ਉਹ) ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰ (ਅਜੇ ਤਕ) ਪਰਤਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਮੈਤਿਨਕੋਕਛੁਸੋਧਨਪਾਯੋ॥੭॥
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
‘The Sun has set, but he has not come back. I have no news of them.’(7)
ਕਾਜੀਕੋਟਵਾਰਜਬਸੁਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਤਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੀ।
ਦੁਹੂੰਬਿਹਸਿਕੈਮਾਥੋਧੁਨ੍ਰਯੋ॥
(ਤਾਂ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੱਸ ਕੇ ਮੱਥਾ (ਸਿਰ) ਹਿਲਾਇਆ।
When the Quazi (the justice) and the policeman heard this, they both, laughingly, shook their heads.
ਜਾਕੋਸੁਤਾਦਾਨੁਤੈਦਯੋ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਦਾਨ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ
ਕਹਾਭਯੋਜੌਗ੍ਰਿਹਲੈਗਯੋ॥੮॥
ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੇ (ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਘਰ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ॥੮॥
‘When you have married your daughter to him, then what if he has taken her to his house.’(8)
ਸਭਹਿਨਤਹਿਝੂਠੀਕਰਿਮਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਸਭ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਿਆ
ਭੇਦਅਭੇਦਕਛੁਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਨਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ।
Everybody branded her as a liar without understanding the secret.
ਲੂਟਿਦਰਬੁਤਾਕੋਸਭਲਯੋ॥
ਉਸ (ਵਿਧਵਾ) ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਲੁਟ ਲਿਆ
ਤਬਹੀਦੇਸਨਿਕਾਰੋਦਯੋ॥੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਦੇਸ ਨਿਕਾਲਾ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੯॥
Rather she was plundered and banished from the country.(9)(1)

ਚੰਦ੍ਰਪੁਰੀਭੀਤਰਹੁਤੋਚੰਦ੍ਰਸੈਨਇਕਰਾਵ॥
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਸੈਨ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
In Chandra Puri there lived a Raja, called Chandra Sen.
ਬਲਗੁਨਬੀਰਜਮੈਜਨੁਕਤ੍ਰਿਦਸੇਸ੍ਵਰਕੇਭਾਵ॥੧॥
(ਉਹ) ਬਲ, ਗੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਨੋ ਇੰਦਰ ('ਤ੍ਰਿਦਸੇਸ੍ਵਰ') ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥
In power and intelligence he was embodiment of Lord Indra.(1)
ਭਾਗਵਤੀਤਾਕੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਜਾਕੋਰੂਪਅਪਾਰ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਾਗਵਤੀ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੀ।
His wife, Bhagwati, was bestowed with extreme beauty,
ਰਤਿਰਤਿਨਾਥਪਛਾਨਿਤਿਹਝੁਕਿਝੁਕਿਕਰਹਿਜੁਹਾਰ॥੨॥
ਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ (ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ) ਵੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਤੀ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਝੁਕ ਝੁਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
Whom, even, the Cupid would bow to pay his obeisance.(2)
ਏਕਪੁਰਖਸੁੰਦਰਹੁਤੋਰਾਨੀਲਯੋਬੁਲਾਇ॥
ਇਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
Once the Rani invited a very Handsome man,
ਭੋਗਅਧਿਕਤਾਸੋਕਿਯੋਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਹਰਖਉਪਜਾਇ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੰਨਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੩॥
She made love with him to her full satisfaction of her heart.(3)
ਚੌਪਈ॥
ਚੌਪਈ:

ਕੇਲਕਰਤਰਾਜਾਜੂਆਯੋ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਹਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਜੀ ਆ ਗਏ।
Raja appeared when they were making love.
ਰਾਨੀਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਅਧਿਕਦੁਖੁਪਾਯੋ॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ।
Rani was very much anguished.
ਯਾਕੋਦਯਾਕਹੌਕਾਕਰਿਹੌ॥
ਹੇ ਦੇਵ! ਇਸ (ਮਿਤਰ) ਦਾ (ਹੁਣ) ਕੀ ਕਰਾਂ।
(She thought,) ‘What should I do about him.
ਯਾਕੇਹਨੇਬਹੁਰਿਹੌਮਰਿਹੌ॥੪॥
ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਵਾਂਗੀ ॥੪॥
Should I kill him and then terminate my life.’( 4)
ਜਾਰਬਾਚ॥
ਯਾਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ:
ਤਬੈਜਾਰਯੌਕਥਾਉਚਾਰੀ॥
ਤਦ ਯਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ,
ਰਾਨੀਕਰਹੁਨਚਿੰਤਹਮਾਰੀ॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ।
Then the paramour narrated, ‘Rani, don’t worry about me.
ਯਹਤਰਬੂਜਕਾਟਿਮੁਹਿਦੀਜੈ॥
ਇਹ ਤਰਬੂਜ਼ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਦੇ ਦਿਓ।
ਯਾਕੀਗਰੀਭਛਕਰਲੀਜੈ॥੫॥
ਇਸ ਦਾ ਗੁਲਫ਼ਾ (ਆਪ) ਖਾ ਲਵੋ ॥੫॥
‘Give this melon to me after eating its pulp yourself.’(5)
ਤਬਰਾਨੀਸੋਊਕਾਜਕਮਾਯੋ॥
ਤਦ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਕਾਟਿਤਾਹਿਤਰਬੂਜਖੁਲਾਯੋ॥
ਤਰਬੂਜ਼ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਆਇਆ।
Rani complied and after cutting it let him eat the melon.
ਲੈਖੋਪਰਤਿਨਸਿਰਪੈਧਰਿਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਤਰਬੂਜ਼ ਦਾ) ਖੋਪਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਧਰ ਲਿਆ
ਸ੍ਵਾਸਲੇਤਕਹਛੇਕੌਕਰਿਯੋ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਛੇਕ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੬॥
Then she replaced the shell on his head and made a whole at the top for breathing.( 6)

ਧਰਿਖੋਪਰਸਿਰਪਰਨਦੀਤਰਿਯੋਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਡਰਸੋਇ॥
ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ (ਤਰਬੂਜ਼ ਦਾ) ਖੋਪਰ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ (ਉਹ) ਨਦੀ ਤਰ ਗਿਆ।
With shell on the head, he went across swimming.
