ਕਰਸੋਔਸੀਕਾਢਿਕੈਲਈਸਲਾਕਉਠਾਇ॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਔਂਸੀ ਕਢੀ ਕੇ (ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ) ਸਲਾਖ਼ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਕ ਲਿਆ
While drawing the lines thus, she had taken away the pipe,
ਹ੍ਯਾਂਰੋਦਨਕੋਊਕਿਨਕਰੋਕਹਿਸਿਰਧਰੀਬਨਾਇ॥੧੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਇਥੇ ਰੋਣਾ ਧੋਣਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਖ਼ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਖ ਲਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
And told him not to cry there and go back to his house.(11)
ਚੋਰਸੁਨਾਰੋਚੁਪਰਹਿਯੋਕਛੂਨਬੋਲਿਯੋਜਾਇ॥
ਚੋਰ ਸੁਨਿਆਰਾ ਚੁਪ ਰਿਹਾ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
The goldsmith kept quiet and could not say anything,
ਪਾਈਪਰੀਸਲਾਕਕਹਿਸੋਨਾਲਯੋਭਰਾਇ॥੧੨॥
ਉਥੇ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਸਲਾਖ਼ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਲੈ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਸਲਾਖ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਘਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਸੋਨਾ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਭਰਵਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
And the woman took away the pipe filled with gold.(12)
ਹਰੀਸਲਾਕਹਰੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿਸ੍ਵਰਨਤੋਲਿਭਰਿਲੀਨ॥
(ਸੁਨਿਆਰੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ) ਹਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਲਾਖ਼ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਵਜ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਸੋਨਾ ਵੀ (ਸੁਨਿਆਰੇ ਤੋਂ) ਭਰ ਲਿਆ।
This way a woman took away the pipe containing gold,
ਚਲ੍ਯੋਦਰਬੁਦੈਗਾਠਿਕੋਦੁਖਿਤਸੁਨਾਰੋਦੀਨ॥੧੩॥
(ਉਹ) ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਸੁਨਿਆਰਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਗਠ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੩॥
And the goldsmith taking his baggage went away in distress.(l3)
ਛਲਰੂਪਛੈਲੀਸਦਾਛਕੀਰਹਤਛਿਤਮਾਹਿ॥
ਛਲ ਕਪਟ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
A woman laden with vile Chritars remains vile-proof.
ਅਛਲਛਲਤਛਿਤਪਤਿਨਕੋਛਲੀਕੌਨਤੇਜਾਹਿ॥੧੪॥
(ਇਹ) ਨਾ ਛਲੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਛਲ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਆਪ) ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਛਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧੪॥
One who can deceive the rulers, cannot be swindled.(l4)(1)

ਸਿਰਮੌਰ ਦੇਸ਼ (ਰਿਆਸਤ) ਵਿਚ (ਇਕ) ਪਾਉਂਟਾ (ਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਨਗਰੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਸਦੀ ਹੈ।
Paonta City was established in the country of Sirmaur,
ਜਮੁਨਾਨਦੀਨਿਕਟਿਬਹੈਜਨੁਕਪੁਰੀਅਲਿਕੇਸ॥੧॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਜਮਨਾ ਨਦੀ ਵਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਾਨੋ ਉਹ ਕੁਬੇਰ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥
It was on the bank of River Jamuna and was like the land of gods.(1)
ਨਦੀਜਮੁਨਕੇਤੀਰਮੈਤੀਰਥਮੁਚਨਕਪਾਲ॥
ਉਸ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਕਪਾਲ ਮੋਚਨ ਦਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਵੀ ਸੀ।
The pilgrim place of Kapaal Mochan was on the banks of the Jamuna.
ਨਗਰਪਾਵਟਾਛੋਰਿਹਮਆਏਤਹਾਉਤਾਲ॥੨॥
ਅਸੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਟਾ ਨਗਰ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਜਲਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਗਏ ॥੨॥
Leaving the City of Paonta, we came to this place.(2)

(ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਖੇਡਦਿਆਂ ਸੂਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ
ਬਹੁਤੇਮ੍ਰਿਗਔਰੈਹਨਿਡਾਰੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਿਰਨ ਵੀ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
While hunting, we had killed many deer and boars,
ਪੁਨਿਤਿਹਠਾਕੌਹਮਮਗੁਲੀਨੌ॥
ਫਿਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਸਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਫੜਿਆ
ਵਾਤੀਰਥਕੇਦਰਸਨਕੀਨੌ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤੇ ॥੩॥
Then we had taken the road to that place and paid obeisance to that pilgritn entity.(3)

ਤਹਾਹਮਾਰੇਸਿਖ੍ਯਸਭਅਮਿਤਪਹੂੰਚੇਆਇ॥
ਉਥੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿਖ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ।
At the place, a number of our Sikh volunteers arrived.
ਤਿਨੈਦੈਨਕੋਚਾਹਿਯੈਜੋਰਿਭਲੋਸਿਰਪਾਇ॥੪॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿਰੋਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਸੀ ॥੪॥
There arose the need of giving them the robes of honour.(4)
ਨਗਰਪਾਵਟੇਬੂਰਿਯੈਪਠਏਲੋਕਬੁਲਾਇ॥
ਅਸਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਉਂਟਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੂੜੀਆ ਨਗਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਭੇਜੇ,
Some persons were sent to the city of Paonta.
ਏਕਪਾਗਪਾਈਨਹੀਨਿਹਫਲਪਹੁਚੇਆਇ॥੫॥
(ਪਰ ਉਥੋਂ) ਇਕ ਪਗ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੀ, ਉਹ ਅਸਫਲ ਪਰਤ ਆਏ ॥੫॥
But could not find even one turban and they came back disappointed.(5)

ਮੋਲਹਿਏਕਪਾਗਨਹਿਪਾਈ॥
ਮੁਲ (ਖਰਚਣ) ਤੇ ਇਕ ਪਗੜੀ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੀ।
ਤਬਮਸਲਤਿਹਮਜਿਯਹਿਬਨਾਈ॥
ਤਦ ਅਸੀਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਸਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ
As no turbans were available to buy, we thought of a plan,
ਜਾਹਿਇਹਾਮੂਤਤਿਲਖਿਪਾਵੋ॥
ਕਿ ਇਥੇ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਮੂਤਦਾ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਵੇ,
ਤਾਕੀਛੀਨਪਗਰਿਯਾਲ੍ਯਾਵੋ॥੬॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਗੜੀ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆਓ ॥੬॥
‘Whosoever you find urinating there, snatch his turban away.’(6)
ਜਬਪਯਾਦਨਐਸੇਸੁਨਿਪਾਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਪਿਆਦਿਆਂ (ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ) ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ
ਤਿਹੀਭਾਤਿਮਿਲਿਸਭਨਕਮਾਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
When the policemen heard thus, they all agreed upon the scheme.
ਜੋਮਨਮੁਖਤੀਰਥਤਿਹਆਯੋ॥
ਜੋ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਉਸ ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਆਇਆ,
ਪਾਗਬਿਨਾਕਰਿਤਾਹਿਪਠਾਯੋ॥੭॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਗ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਝਿਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਤਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
Any apostate who came on pilgrimage, he was sent back without the turban.(7)

ਰਾਤਿਬੀਚਕਰਿਆਠਸੈਪਗਰੀਲਈਉਤਾਰਿ॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਰਾਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਅੱਠ ਸੌ ਪਗੜੀਆਂ ਉਤਾਰ ਲਈ।
In one night alone, eight hundred turbans were taken away.
ਆਨਿਤਿਨੈਹਮਦੀਹਮੈਧੋਵਨਿਦਈਸੁਧਾਰਿ॥੮॥
ਉਹ ਲੈ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਧੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੮॥
They brought and gave them to me and I handed over to be washed, cleaned and straightened out.(8)

ਸਭਹੀਸਿਖ੍ਯਨਕੋਬੰਧਵਾਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ।
In the morning all the washed and the cleaned ones were brought and were worn by the Sikhs.
ਬਚੀਸੁਬੇਚਿਤੁਰਤਤਹਲਈ॥
ਜੋ ਬਚੀਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰਤ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਬਾਕੀਬਚੀਸਿਪਾਹਿਨਦਈ॥੯॥
ਅਤੇ (ਜੋ ਹੋਰ) ਬਾਕੀ ਬਚੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ॥੯॥
The left over were sold and the remaining were given out to the policemen.(9)

ਬਟਿਕੈਪਗਰੀਨਗਰਕੋਜਾਤਭਏਸੁਖਪਾਇ॥
ਪਗੜੀਆਂ ਵੇਚ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ।
After selling the turbans, headed towards their towns, achieving due bliss.
ਭੇਦਮੂਰਖਨਨਲਹਿਯੋਕਹਾਗਯੋਕਰਿਰਾਇ॥੧੦॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੇ ਭੇਦ ਨਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਕਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
Foolish people could not discern what game the Raja had played.(10)(1)

ਇਕ ਪਹਾੜ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਨਾਥ ਸੀ।
In the hill, there used to live a Raja whose name was Chiter Nath.
ਤਾਕੋਜਨਸਭਦੇਸਕੇਜਪਤਆਠਹੂੰਜਾਮ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਅਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧॥
All the people of the land revered him, all the time.(1)
ਇੰਦ੍ਰਮੁਖੀਰਾਨੀਰਹੈਤਾਕੇਰੂਪਅਨੂਪ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਮੁਖੀ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰਾਣੀ ਸੀ।
His Rani, Indra Mukhi, was wondrously pretty.
ਸਚੀਜਾਨਿਕਰਿਜਕਰਹੈਜਾਹਿਆਪੁਪੁਰਹੂਤ॥੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਚੀ ਵਰਗਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਇੰਦਰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
She was as beautiful as Sachi (the consort of god Indra),(2)

(ਉਸ) ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਇਕ ਨਦੀ ਵਗਦੀ ਸੀ।
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਭਗਾਤਾਕੋਜਗਕਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਭਗਾ (ਚਨਾਬ) ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
In the country of the Raja, a rivulet flowed which was known as Chandra Bhagga.
ਤਟਟੀਲਾਪੈਮਹਲਉਸਾਰੇ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਦੇ ਟਿਲੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਹਿਲ ਬਣਾਏ ਗਏ ਸਨ,
ਜਨੁਬਿਸਕਰਮੈਕਰਨਸੁਧਾਰੇ॥੩॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਕਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਣ ॥੩॥
On its banks, he had built a palace, which looked as if Wish karam a (the god of engineering) had built himself.(3)

ਗਹਿਰੋਜਾਕੋਜਲਰਹੈਜਾਸਮਨਦੀਨਆਨ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਸੀ; ਉਸ ਵਰਗੀ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।
Its water was very deep and there was no other rivulet like this.
ਡਰਤਤੈਰਿਕੋਊਨਸਕੈਲਾਗਤਸਿੰਧੁਸਮਾਨ॥੪॥
(ਡੁਬਣ ਦੇ) ਡਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਉਹ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਰਗੀ ਲਗਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੪॥
Dreaded, none dared to swim across, as it looked like a sea.(4)
ਸਾਹੁਏਕਗੁਜਰਾਤਕੋਘੋਰਾਬੇਚਨਕਾਜ॥
ਗੁਜਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਘੋੜਾ ਵੇਚਣ ਲਈ
There was one Shah of Gujarat who dealt in horses.
ਚਲਿਆਯੋਤਿਹਠਾਜਹਾਚਿਤ੍ਰਨਾਥਮਹਾਰਾਜ॥੫॥
ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਨਾਥ ਸੀ ॥੫॥
He travelled over and came to the place of Chiter Nath.(5)
ਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਮਸਾਹੁਕੋਜੌਨਲਖੈਨਰਨਾਰਿ॥
ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੀ। (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਜੋ ਨਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਵੇਖਦੇ,
Looking at the handsome Shah, the woman forgot her own glamour.
ਧਨਆਪਨਕੀਕ੍ਯਾਚਲੀਤਨਮਨਡਾਰਹਿਵਾਰ॥੬॥
ਧਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਗੱਲ, ਉਹ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਵੀ ਵਾਰਨ ਲਗਦੇ ॥੬॥
(She felt) as if, not only her wealth, but also she lost the urge of her youthful desires.(6)

ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਮੁਖੀ ਕੋਲ ਕਿਹਾ,
When the pretty lady had fallen for the Shah, she exclaimed, ‘Oh, god Indra Mukhi,
ਐਸੋਪੁਰਖੁਭੋਗਕੋਪੈਯੈ॥
ਜੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਭੋਗ ਲਈ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ
ਪ੍ਰਾਨਸਹਿਤਤਾਕੇਬਲਿਜੈਯੈ॥੭॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਉਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਕ ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ ॥੭॥
‘If I get such a person for making love, I could sacrifice my life on him.’(7)
ਸੁਨੁਰਾਨੀਤਿਹਬੋਲਿਪਠੈਯੈ॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਣੀ! ਸੁਣ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਵਾ ਭੇਜੋ
ਮੈਨਭੋਗਤਿਹਸਾਥਕਮੈਯੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮ-ਭੋਗ ਕਰੋ।
(She soliloquised,) ‘Listen Rani, you invite him and make-love with him.
ਤੁਮਤੇਤਾਕੋਜੋਸੁਤਹੌਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ
ਤਾਕੇਰੂਪਤੁਲਿਕਹਕੋਹੈ॥੮॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਭਲਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੌਣ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
‘A son will be born and there will never be as handsome as he.(8)
ਤਾਕੋਜੋਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਲਖਿਪੈਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਵੀ ਵੇਖ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
