ਨਊਆਸੁਤਤਿਹਭੇਖਬਨਾਯੋ॥
ਨਾਈ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਸ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ
ਦੇਬੁਗਚਾਸੁਤਸਾਹੁਚਲਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਗਠਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The barber’s son disguised himself and giving him his bundle made him to walk.
ਤਾਕੋਅਤਿਹੀਚਿਤਹਰਖਾਨੋ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚਿਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਸੀ,
ਸਾਹੁਪੁਤ੍ਰਕਛੁਭੇਦਨਜਾਨੋ॥੭॥
ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਭੇਦ ਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ ॥੭॥
He felt very happy but the Shah’s son could not understand the secret.(7)

ਚਲਤਚਲਤਸਸੁਰਾਰਿਕੌਗਾਵਪਹੂੰਚ੍ਯੋਆਇ॥
ਤੁਰਦੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਉਹ ਸੌਹਰੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ।
Walking and walking they reached the village of the in-laws.
ਉਤਰਿਨਤਿਹਸੁਤਸਾਹੁਕੋਹੈਪਰਲਿਯੋਚਰਾਇ॥੮॥
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਤਰ ਕੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਉਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
But he did not dismount and did not let him (the Shah’s son) to mount.(8)
ਸਾਹੁਪੁਤ੍ਰਤਿਹਕਹਿਰਹਿਯੋਲਯੋਨਤੁਰੈਚਰਾਇ॥
ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਘੋੜੇ ਉਤੇ ਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ।
The Shah’s son insisted but he did not let him ride the horse.
ਸਾਹੁਪੁਤ੍ਰਲਖਿਤਿਹਧਨੀਸਕਲਮਿਲਤਭੇਆਇ॥੯॥
ਉਸ ਧਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ ॥੯॥
(People) came and met assuming the barber’s son to be the Shah’s son.(9)
ਚੌਪਈ॥

ਸਾਹੁਪੁਤ੍ਰਨਊਆਕਰਿਮਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਈ ਦਾ
ਨਊਆਸੁਤਸੁਤਸਾਹੁਪਛਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਨਾਈ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਨੇ) ਪਛਾਣਿਆ।
They acknowledged the Shah’s son as the barber’s son and the barber’s son as the Shah’s.
ਅਤਿਲਜਾਇਮਨਮੈਵਹੁਰਹਿਯੋ॥
ਉਹ (ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ
ਤਿਨਪ੍ਰਤਿਕਛੂਬਚਨਨਹਿਕਹਿਯੋ॥੧੦॥
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਚਨ ਨਾ ਕਿਹਾ ॥੧੦॥
He was very much ashamed but he could not say any thing to contradict.(10)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥

ਨਊਆਸੁਤਕੋਸਾਹੁਕੀਦੀਨੀਬਧੂਮਿਲਾਇ॥
ਨਾਈ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ
The Shah’s son was received as the barber’s son,
ਸਾਹੁਪੁਤ੍ਰਸੋਯੌਕਹਿਯੋਦੁਆਰੇਬੈਠਹੁਜਾਇ॥੧੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਉਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੇ ॥੧੧॥
And the Shah’s son was told to go and sit out side on the door step.(11)

ਤਬਨਊਆਯੌਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਤਦ ਨਾਈ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ,
ਕਹੌਕਾਜਇਹਕਰੋਹਮਾਰੇ॥
(ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਹੋ ਕਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇ।
The Shah’s son asked, ‘Please do me a favour.
ਬਹੁਬਕਰੀਤਿਹਦੇਹੁਚਰਾਵੈ॥
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬਕਰੀਆਂ ਚਰਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਦਿਓ।
ਦਿਵਸਚਰਾਇਰਾਤਿਘਰਆਵੈ॥੧੨॥
ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਰਾ ਕੇ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ॥੧੨॥
‘Give him a few goats. He will take them out for grazing and will come back in the evening.’(12)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥

ਸਾਹੁਪੁਤ੍ਰਛੇਰੀਲਏਬਨਮੈਭਯੋਖਰਾਬ॥
ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਕਰੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਖੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ
Thus the Shah’s son roamed around in the jungle,
ਸੂਕਿਦੂਬਰੋਤਨਭਯੋਹੇਰੇਲਜਤਰਬਾਬ॥੧੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੁਕ ਕੇ ਰਬਾਬ ਵਰਗਾ ਦੁਬਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੩॥
And got weaker and weaker with the shame.(13)
ਚੌਪਈ॥

ਅਤਿਦੁਰਬਲਜਬਤਾਹਿਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਰਬਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਤਬਨਊਆਸੁਤਬਚਨਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਤਦ ਨਾਈ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ,
When he saw him getting very week, the barber’s son asked,
ਏਕਖਾਟਯਾਕੋਅਬਦੀਜੈ॥
ਹੁਣ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਮੰਜੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਓ
ਮੇਰੋਕਹਿਯੋਬਚਨਯਹਕੀਜੈ॥੧੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਹੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰੋ ॥੧੪॥
‘Give him a bed, and every body must do what I say.’(14)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥

ਖਾਟਸਾਹੁਕੋਪੁਤ੍ਰਲੈਅਧਿਕਦੁਖ੍ਯਭਯੋਚਿਤ॥
ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਮੰਜੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਇਆ।
Taking the bed Shah’s son was very much afflicted.
ਗਹਿਰੇਬਨਮੈਜਾਇਕੈਰੋਵਤਪੀਟਤਨਿਤ॥੧੫॥
ਸੰਘਣੇ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਰੋਣ ਪਿਟਣ ਲਗਿਆ ॥੧੫॥
And every day went to the jungle to cry and wallop himself.(15)
ਮਹਾਰੁਦ੍ਰਅਰੁਪਾਰਬਤੀਜਾਤਹੁਤੈਨਰਨਾਹਿ॥
ਮਹਾ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Once (god) Shiva and (his consort) Parvatti were passing-by there.
ਤਾਕੋਦੁਖਿਤਬਿਲੋਕਿਕੈਦਯਾਭਈਮਨਮਾਹਿ॥੧੬॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖੀ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਦਇਆ ਆ ਗਈ ॥੧੬॥
Watching him in agony, they took pity on him.(16)
ਚੌਪਈ॥

ਦਯਾਮਾਨਯੌਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ,
ਸੁਨਹੁਸਾਹੁਕੇਸੁਤਦੁਖ੍ਰਯਾਰੇ॥
ਹੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਪੁੱਤਰ! ਸੁਣੋ।
Being compassionate they said, ‘Listen, you, the distressed son of the Shah,
ਜਾਇਚਮਰੁਤੂਤੂਮੁਖਕਹਿਹੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ ਕਹੇਂਗਾ 'ਤੂੰ ਚਿਮਟ ਜਾ',
ਛੇਰੀਲਗੀਭੂੰਮਮੈਰਹਿਹੈ॥੧੭॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬਕਰੀ ਭੂਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਏਗੀ ॥੧੭॥
‘Which ever the goat you would order to get stuck, that will go to sleep.(17)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥
ਦੋਹਰਾ:

ਜਬੈਉਝਰੁਤੂਭਾਖਿਹੈਤੁਰਤਵਹੈਛੁਟਿਜਾਇ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਵਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਕਹੇਂਗਾ, ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਖ਼ਲਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗੀ।
‘And whenever you would say, get up,
ਜਬਲਗਿਯੋਕਹਿਹੈਨਹੀਮਰੈਧਰਨਿਲਪਟਾਇ॥੧੮॥
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹੇਂਗਾ, ਉਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਗ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਏਗੀ ॥੧੮॥
The goat will get up and would not be dead.’(8)
ਚੌਪਈ॥

ਜਬੈਚਮਰੁਤੂਵਹਿਮੁਖਕਹੈ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ (ਸ਼ਿਵ) ਨੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੋਂ 'ਤੂੰ ਚਿਮਟ ਜਾ' ਕਿਹਾ
ਚਿਮਟਿਯੋਅਧਰਧਰਨਿਸੋਰਹੈ॥
ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਹੇਠਲਾ ਹੋਠ ('ਅਧਰ') ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਚਿਮਟ ਗਿਆ।
Now whenever he said, get stuck, it (goat) would lie down.
ਸਾਚੁਬਚਨਸਿਵਕੋਜਬਭਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਏ,
ਤਬਤਿਹਚਿਤਯਹਠਾਟਠਟ੍ਰਯੋ॥੧੯॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥੧੯॥
As Shiva’s words were coming true, he decided to play this trick.(19)
