ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਘੋਲ ਕੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ
ਰਾਜਾਜੂਕੋਮਾਰਹੀਡਾਰਿਯੋ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੫॥
By stirring, she put poison in the food and all of them were killed.
ਜਬਰਾਜਾਜੂਮ੍ਰਿਤਬਸਿਭਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ (ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ) ਮਰ ਗਏ,
ਤਬਹੀਪਕਰਰਸੋਯਾਲਏ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਰਸੋਈਏ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜ ਲਿਆ।
When Raja had died, she called in the cook.
ਵਾਹੈਤਾਮਲੈਤਾਹਿਖੁਆਰਿਯੋ॥
ਉਹੀ ਭੋਜਨ ('ਤਾਮ') ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਆਇਆ
ਤਾਹੂਕੌਤਬਹੀਹਨਿਡਾਰਿਯੋ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੬॥
She forced him to eat and he was killed too.(6)(1)

ਸਹਰਨਿਕੋਦਰਬਨਯੋਰਹੈ॥
ਨਕੋਦਰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਬਨੀਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
In the city of Nikodar, one Shah used to live there.
ਦ੍ਵੈਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਜਗਤਾਕੇਕਹੈ॥
ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੋ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
Every body knew that he had two wives.
ਲਾਡਮਕੁਅਰਿਸੁਹਾਗਮਦੇਈ॥
(ਇਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ) ਲਾਡਮ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸੀ (ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ) ਸੁਹਾਗਮ ਦੇਈ ਸੀ।
Their names were Laadam Kunwar and Suhaag Devi and many other
ਜਿਨਤੇਬਹੁਸਿਛ੍ਯਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਲੇਈ॥੧॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੧॥
ladies used to come to them to take lessons from them.(1)
ਬਨਯੋਅਨਤਦੇਸਕਹਗਯੋ॥
(ਉਹ) ਬਨੀਆ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆ
ਅਧਿਕਸੋਕਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਕੋਭਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਯੋਗ ਦਾ) ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖ ਹੋਇਆ।
When the Shah went abroad, they were very much afflicted.
ਬਹੁਤਕਾਲਪਰਦੇਸਬਿਤਾਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਪਰਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਮਾ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਿਆ
ਖਾਟਿਕਮਾਇਦੇਸਕਹਆਯੋ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਖਟ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਦੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤਿਆ ॥੨॥
He remained abroad long time and then came back after earning lot of wealth.(2)
ਕਿਤਕਦਿਨਨਬਨਿਯਾਘਰਆਯੋ॥
ਕਿਤਨਿਆਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਬਨੀਆ ਘਰ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ।
ਦੁਹੂੰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਪਕਵਾਨਪਕਾਯੋ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਕਵਾਨ ਪਕਾਏ।
When the Shah was to arrive back, both of them prepared dainty foods.
ਵਹੁਜਾਨੈਮੇਰੇਘਰਐਹੈ॥
ਉਹ (ਇਕ) ਸੋਚਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਆਵੇਗਾ
ਵਹਜਾਨੈਮੇਰੇਹੀਜੈਹੈ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ (ਦੂਜੀ) ਸੋਚਦੀ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾਵੇਗਾ ॥੩॥
One thought he would come to her and other thought he would come to her.(3)
ਏਕਗਾਵਬਨਿਯਾਰਹਿਗਯੋ॥
(ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਬਨੀਆ ਇਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ।
ਆਵਤਚੋਰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਕੇਭਯੋ॥
ਉਧਰ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੋਰ ਆ ਪਿਆ।
The Shah was detained in a village on his way and, here, in the house of one lady, the thieves broke in.
ਜਾਗਤਹੇਰਿਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿਨਹਿਆਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਇਕ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਗਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ) ਨਾ ਆਇਆ
ਦੁਤਿਯਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੇਘਰਕੌਧਾਯੋ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਲ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ॥੪॥
When he found the lady still awake, he went to the house of the other.(4)
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਜਾਨ੍ਯੋਮੇਰੇਪਤਿਆਏ॥
ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਤੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ
ਮਮਘਰਤੇਹਟਿਯਾਕੇਧਾਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਤੋਂ ਹਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
The first woman thought her husband had come back but, now, had gone to the other.
ਦੋਊਚਲੀਹਮਪਤਿਹਿਹਟੈਹੈ॥
ਦੋਵੇਂ ਚਲ ਪਈਆਂ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ (ਦੂਜੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਲ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ) ਰੋਕੀਏ
ਮੋਰਿਆਪਨੇਧਾਮਲਯੈਹੈ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਲ ਲੈ ਆਈਏ ॥੫॥
Both walked out to go and get the husband back to their own house.(5)

ਦੋਵੇਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਚਲ ਪਈਆਂ
They both had gone out duly broiling in rage.
ਤਸਕਰਕੋਪਤਿਜਾਨਿਕੈਦੁਹੂਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਗਹਿਲੀਨ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਚੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਕੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੬॥
And, mistaking the thief as their husband, they apprehended him.( 6)
ਤਸਕਰਕੋਪਤਿਭਾਵਤੇਦੇਖਿਯੋਦਿਯਾਜਰਾਇ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ) ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗਾ ਕੇ ਚੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ,
They both lit the lamp and looked at him with the intention of recognising the husband.
ਚੋਰਜਾਨਿਕੁਟਵਾਰਕੇਦੀਨੋਧਾਮਪਠਾਇ॥੭॥
(ਪਰ) ਚੋਰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਕੋਤਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਘਰ (ਭਾਵ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੇ) ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੭॥
But, realising him to be a thief, they handed him over to the chief of the city police and got him imprisoned.(7)(l)

ਰਾਜਾਰਨਥੰਭੌਰਕੋਜਾਕੋਪ੍ਰਬਲਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ॥
ਰਨਥੰਭੌਰ ਦਾ ਬੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ
Raja Ranthambhaur was very auspicious ruler.
ਰਾਵਰੰਕਜਾਕੋਸਦਾਨਿਸਦਿਨਜਾਪਹਿਜਾਪ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਮੀਰ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧॥
All, the rich and the poor, revered him.(1)
ਰੰਗਰਾਇਤਾਕੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਅਤਿਜੋਬਨਤਿਹਅੰਗ॥
ਰੰਗ ਰਾਇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਜੋਬਨਵਤੀ ਸੀ।
Rang Raae was his wife, who was at the prime of her youth.
ਰਾਜਾਕੌਪ੍ਯਾਰੀਰਹੈਜਿਹਲਖਿਲਜੈਅਨੰਗ॥੨॥
ਉਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ ਵੀ ਲਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
Raja loved her exceptionally as, even, the Cupid was ashamed of facing her.(2)
ਏਕਦਿਵਸਤਿਹਰਾਵਨੈਸੁਭਉਪਬਨਮੈਜਾਇ॥
ਇਕ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਬਾਗ਼ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ
One day Raja went to the jungle,
ਰੰਗਰਾਇਸੁਤਮਾਨਿਕੈਲੀਨੀਕੰਠਲਗਾਇ॥੩॥
ਰੰਗ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਗਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
And embraced Rang Raae and hugged her lovingly.(3)
ਰੰਗਰਾਇਸੌਰਾਇਤਬਐਸੇਕਹੀਬਨਾਇ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ ਤਦ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ
Raja said to Rang Raae like this,
ਜ੍ਯੋਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਦ੍ਵੈਮੈਗਹੀਤੋਹਿਨਨਰਗਹਿਜਾਇ॥੪॥
ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਦੋ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਤੂੰ (ਦੋ) ਮਰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੪॥
‘The way I have subdued two women, you could not overpower two men.(4)

ਕੇਤਕਦਿਵਸਬੀਤਜਬਗਏ॥
ਜਦ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਾਂ ਬੀਤ ਗਿਆ
ਰੰਗਰਾਇਸਿਮਰਨਬਚਭਏ॥
ਤਾਂ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ (ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ) ਬੋਲ ਯਾਦ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
A number of days passed by and the Raja forgot about his conversation.
ਏਕਪੁਰਖਸੌਨੇਹਲਗਾਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਮੁੱਛਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ
ਬਿਨਾਸਮਸਜਾਕੌਲਖਿਪਾਯੋ॥੫॥
ਇਕ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲਗਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੫॥
She fell in love with a man who had no beard and moustache.(5)
ਨਾਰੀਕੋਤਿਹਭੇਸਬਨਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਰੀ ਵਰਗਾ ਭੇਸ ਬਣਾਇਆ
ਰਾਜਾਸੌਇਹਭਾਤਿਜਤਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ
She disguised him as woman and told the Raja like this,
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਤੇਬਹਿਨਿਹਮਾਰੀਆਈ॥
ਕਿ ਘਰੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈਣ ਆਈ ਹੈ,
ਹਮਤੁਮਚਲਿਤਿਹਕਰੈਬਡਾਈ॥੬॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰੀਏ ॥੬॥
‘My sister has come, let us go and felicitate her.(6)

‘We go to see her and give her warm welcome.
ਮੋਰੇਢਿਗਬੈਠਾਰਿਯੈਅਮਿਤਦਰਬੁਦੈਦਾਨ॥੭॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਿਠਾ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਦਾਨ ਦਿਓ ॥੭॥
‘Then making her to sit near me, give her lot of wealth.’(7)
ਤਿਹਨ੍ਰਿਪਟਰਿਆਗੈਲਿਯੋਬੈਠਾਰਿਯੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਤੀਰ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਅਗੇ ਹੋ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਿਠਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Raja came forward and let his woman take seat near her (sister).
ਅਤਿਧਨੁਦੈਆਦਰੁਕਰਿਯੋਭਏਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਕੀਭੀਰ॥੮॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ (ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੀੜ ਲਗ ਗਈ ॥੮॥
With respect, he gave her lot of riches, and many other ladies gathered there, too.(8)
ਜਬਰਾਜਾਢਿਗਬੈਠ੍ਯੋਤਬਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਲਪਟਾਇ॥
ਜਦ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੋਲ ਬੈਠ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ (ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ) ਲਿਪਟ ਗਈਆਂ
When Raja took seat among them, both grasped each other.
ਕੂਕਿਕੂਕਿਰੋਵਤਭਈਅਧਿਕਸਨੇਹਬਢਾਇ॥੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਸਨੇਹ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਕੂਕਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਰੋਣ ਲਗ ਗਈਆਂ ॥੯॥
They started to cry loudly and showed great affection for each other.(9)
ਰੰਗਰਾਇਤਿਹਪੁਰਖਕੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੋਭੇਸਸੁਧਾਰਿ॥
ਰੰਗ ਰਾਇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਦਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੇਸ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Rang Raae had disguised the man as a woman,
ਦਛਿਨੰਗਰਾਜਾਲਯੋਬਾਮੈਅੰਗਸੁਯਾਰ॥੧੦॥
ਸਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਖਬੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਯਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
And made Raja to sit on her right and the lover on the left.(10)
ਯਹਭਗਨੀਤੋਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿਯਾਤੇਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਕੌਨ॥
ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ-ਪਤੀ ਹੋ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਵਧ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ?
‘She is my sister and you are my revered husband, and there is none other as much pleasing to me.’
ਦਿਨਦੇਖਤਤ੍ਰਿਯਛਲਿਗਈਜਿਹਲਖਿਭਜਿਯੈਮੌਨ॥੧੧॥
ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਛਲ ਲਿਆ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਚੁਪ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਉਚਿਤ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
In broad day light the women deceive and we had to keep shut.(11)
ਅਤਿਭੁਤਗਤਿਬਨਿਤਾਨਕੀਜਿਨੈਨਪਾਵੈਕੋਇ॥
ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬੜੀ ਅਸਚਰਜਮਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
Because the Chritars are unique, and no one can perceive.
ਭੇਦਸੁਰਾਸੁਰਨਲਹੈਜੋਚਾਹੈਸੋਹੋਇ॥੧੨॥
(ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭੇਦ ਦੈਂਤ ਅਥਵਾ ਦੇਵਤਾ, ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਉਹ) ਜੋ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
Her mysteries no one can grasp, not even the gods and the demons.(12)(1)

ਬਨਿਯੋਗ੍ਵਾਰਿਏਰਕੇਮਾਹੀ॥
ਗਵਾਲੀਅਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਬਨੀਆ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਸੀ।
ਘਰਧਨਬਹੁਖਰਚਤਕਛੁਨਾਹੀ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਘਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਖਰਚਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।
A Shah used to live in Gwalior and he had lot of wealth in his house.
ਤਾਕੋਘਰਤਸਕਰਇਕਆਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਇਕ ਚੋਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਤਿਨਸਾਹੁਨਿਸੋਬਚਨਸੁਨਾਯੋ॥੧॥
(ਤਦ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਹਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ॥੧॥
Once, when a thief came to his house and he discussed with his wife.(1)
