ਚੰਦ੍ਰਦੇਵਜਬਹੀਸ੍ਵੈਜਾਵੈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਵ ਸੌਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ,
ਤਬਤ੍ਰਿਯਜਾਰਪਾਸਉਠਿਆਵੈ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਉਹ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਯਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
As soon as Chandra Dev went to sleep, she would go to her lover.
ਕੇਲਕਮਾਇਰਹਤਤਹਜਾਈ॥
ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ
ਤੈਸੇਹੀਸੋਇਰਹਤਲਪਟਾਈ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਪਟ ਕੇ ਸੁੱਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੨॥
She would indulge in sex-play with him and clinging around, sleep with him.(2)
ਸੋਵਤਜਗ੍ਯੋਭੇਦਨ੍ਰਿਪਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ (ਇਹ) ਭੇਦ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ।
ਚਿਤਰਾਖਿਯੋਨਹਿਪ੍ਰਗਟਬਖਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਦਸੀ।
The Raja, on awakening, discovered this secret.
ਚਿਤਚੌਗਨੋਨੇਹੁਬਢਾਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨਾਲ) ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਚੌਗੁਣਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਧਾਇਆ,
ਮੂਰਖਨਾਰਿਭੇਦਨਹਿਪਾਯੋ॥੩॥
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਭੇਦ ਨਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ॥੩॥
He started to love her many fold, but she could not comprehend this.(3)
ਆਂਖਿਮੂੰਦਿਜਾਗਤਸ੍ਵੈਰਹਿਯੋ॥
ਉਹ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਭੌਂਦੂਨਾਰਿਸੋਤਸੋਲਹਿਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ) ਮੂਰਖ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਤਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਿਆ।
Although awoke, he kept his eyes shut, and the foolish lady thought him asleep.
ਤੁਰਤਜਾਰਕੇਤਟਚਲਿਗਈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਤੁਰਤ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਯਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ।
ਉਠਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਕਰਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਗਹਲਈ॥੪॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਫੜ ਲਈ ॥੪॥
Immediately she departed for her friend, the Raja got up and drew out his sword.(4)

ਉਠਿਰਾਜਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਭੇਸਧਰਗਹਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਲੀਹਾਥ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦਾ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਪਕੜ ਲਈ।
Raja got up and disguised him as a woman and kept sword in his hand.
ਰਾਨੀਯੋਜਾਨੀਜਿਯਹਿਆਵਤਚੇਰੀਸਾਥ॥੫॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਕਿ ਦਾਸੀ ਨਾਲ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
Rani thought some maid was accompanying her.(5)

ਪਾਇਨਕੋਖਟਕੋਨਹਿਕਰਿਯੋ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਖੜਾਕ ਤਕ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ
ਕਰਮਹਿਕਾਢਿਖੜਗਕਹਿਧਰਿਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਪਕੜ ਲਈ।
He walked stealthily behind but kept sword in his hand.
ਭੋਗਕਰਤਜਬਤਿਨੈਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਦੋਂ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ
ਇਹੈਚਿਤਮਹਿਚਰਿਤਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ॥੬॥
ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ॥੬॥
When she initiated love-making, he resolved in his mind.(6)
ਰਮਤਜਾਰਸੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਲਖਪਾਈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਯਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਰਮਣ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਕਰਮਹਿਕਾਢਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਕੰਪਾਈ॥
ਤਾਂ ਹਥ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਘੁੰਮਾਈ।
As soon as she had clung to the friend to make love, he took out his sword,
ਦੁਹੂੰਹਾਥਕਰਿਕੁਅਤਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ('ਕੁਅਤ') ਨਾਲ ਵਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਚਾਰਿਟੂਕਕਰਿਡਾਰਿਯੋ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਟੋਟੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੭॥
And, holding it in both the hands, he struck and cut both of them into four pieces.(7)

ਚੰਦ੍ਰਕਲਾਕੋਜਾਰਜੁਤਹਨਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਲਯੋਉਠਾਇ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਕਲਾ ਸਮੇਤ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਚੁਕ ਲਿਆ
After killing Chandra Kala along with her lover, he picked her up,
ਵੈਸਹਆਪਨੀਖਾਟਤਰਰਾਖਤਭਯੋਬਨਾਇ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੰਜੀ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਰਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੮॥
And placed her under his bed.(8)
ਧਰਿਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਕੋਖਾਟਤਰਘਰੀਏਕਦੋਟਾਰਿ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਜੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਥੋੜਾ ਚਿਰ ਰਖ ਕੇ
Keeping them under the bed for some time,
ਮਾਰਿਮਾਰਿਕਹਿਕੈਉਠਾਕਢੇਕੋਪਕਰਵਾਰ॥੯॥
ਫਿਰ 'ਮਾਰੋ ਮਾਰੋ' ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕਢ ਲਈ ॥੯॥
He took out sword and shouted, ‘Kill him, kill him.’(9)
ਚੋਰਮੋਹਿਮਾਰਤਹੁਤੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੇਲਾਗਿਯੋਘਾਇ॥
ਚੋਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਘਾਓ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ।
‘A thief had come to kill me, but (he) hit my wife instead.
ਕਾਢਿਭਗੌਤੀਤੁਰਤੁਮੈਯਾਕੋਦਯੋਸੁਘਾਇ॥੧੦॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੁਰਤ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੦॥
‘Hurriedly I drew my sword out and killed him too.’(10)

ਜਬੈਲੋਗਨ੍ਰਿਪਪੂਛਨਆਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਣ ਆਏ,
ਯਹੈਤਿਨੌਸੌਬਚਨਸੁਨਾਏ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ
When people came to inquire, then the Raja narrated the same story.
ਜਬਤਸਕਰਮੁਹਿਘਾਵਚਲਾਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਜਦ ਚੋਰ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਵਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਹੌਬਚਿਗਯੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੌਘਾਯੋ॥੧੧॥
ਮੈਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਮਾਰੀ ਗਈ ॥੧੧॥
‘The thief raided upon me, I escaped but my wife was struck.’(11)
ਜਬਦ੍ਰਿੜਘਾਵਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੇਲਾਗਿਯੋ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ,
ਤਬਹੌਕਾਢਿਭਗੌਤੀਜਾਗਿਯੋ॥
ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਗ ਕੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕਢੀ।
‘When the wife was fatally hurt, I took my sword out,
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੇਨੇਹਕੋਪਮਨਧਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਇਸਤਰੀ (ਰਾਣੀ) ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ
ਚੋਰਹਿਠੌਰਮਾਰਹੀਡਾਰਿਯੋ॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਚੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੨॥
‘And considering my love for the woman, I slew him.’(12)

ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਨਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਧੰਨ ਜਿਗਰਾ ਹੈ
Every body in the town praised Raja,
ਬਦਲੋਲੀਨੋਬਾਮਕੋਚੋਰਸੰਘਾਰਿਯੋਜੀਯ॥੧੩॥
ਕਿ ਪਤਨੀ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਚੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੩॥
Because he had killed the thief to revenge the death of the lady.(13)(1)

ਸਭਹੀਰਾਜਨਕੋਸਿਰਤਾਜਾ॥
ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਸੀ।
