ਕਾਢਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਪਹੂੰਚਿਯੋਤਬੈਤੁਰਤਹੀਜਾਰ॥
(ਉਹ) ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ,
He took out his sword and stepped forward.
ਭਰਿਮੂੰਠੀਕਰਰੇਤਕੀਗਯੋਆਖਿਮੈਡਾਰਿ॥੭॥
ਤਦ ਤੁਰਤ ਹੀ ਯਾਰ ਰੇਤ ਦੀ ਮੁਠ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ॥੭॥
Then he (the friend) pinched some sand and threw in his eyes.(7)
ਅੰਧਭਯੋਬੈਠੋਰਹਿਯੋਗਯੋਜਾਰਤਬਭਾਜ॥
ਉਹ ਅੰਨਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬੈਠ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਦ ਯਾਰ ਭਜ ਗਿਆ।
He became blind and kept sitting and the lover ran away.
ਏਕਚਛੁਕੀਬਾਤਸੁਨਿਰੀਝਿਰਹੇਮਹਾਰਾਜ॥੮॥
ਇਕ ਅੱਖ ਵਾਲੇ (ਕਾਣੇ) ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੮॥
Thus listening to the tale of one-eyed man, the Raja was much please.(8)(1)

ਉਤਰਦੇਸਰਾਵਇਕਭਾਰੋ॥
ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ
ਸੂਰਜਬੰਸਮਾਝਉਜਿਯਾਰੋ॥
ਜੋ ਸੂਰਜ ਬੰਸ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਘੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
In a country in the North, there lived a Raja who belonged to Sun clan.
ਰੂਪਮਤੀਤਾਕੀਬਰਨਾਰੀ॥
ਰੂਪ ਮਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਸੀ
ਜਨੁਕਚੀਰਿਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਨਿਕਾਰੀ॥੧॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੀਰ ਕੇ ਕਢੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥
Roop Mati was his wife; she was the embodiment of Moon.(1)
ਵਹਤ੍ਰਿਯਏਕਨੀਚਸੋਰਹੈ॥
ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਇਕ ਨੀਚ ਨਾਲ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
ਅਧਿਕਨਿੰਦਤਾਕੀਜਗਕਹੈ॥
(ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।
That woman was implicated with a low character and the whole world criticised her.
ਇਹਬਿਰਤਾਤਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਜਬਸੁਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਿਤਾਂਤ ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ,
ਅਧਿਕਕੋਪਕਰਿਮਸਤਕਧੁਨ੍ਰਯੋ॥੨॥
(ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਹਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
When Raja came to know of this, he shook his head (in dismay).(2)
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੀਲਾਗਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਹੂੰਕਰੀ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੀ ਟੋਹ ('ਲਾਗ') ਲਈ
ਬਾਤੈਕਰਤਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਮਹਿਪਰੀ॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਹ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
When Raja investigated, he found her communicating with that man.
ਤਾਦਿਨਤੇਤਾਸੌਹਿਤਤ੍ਯਾਗਿਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ (ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ) ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਅਵਰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਕੇਰਸਅਨੁਰਾਗਿਯੋ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
He abandoned adoring her and became the lover of some other ladies.(3)
ਅਵਰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਸੌਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਲਗਾਈ॥
(ਉਸ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ) ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਲਗਾ ਲਈ
ਤਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਸੌਦਿਯਨੇਹਭੁਲਾਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
While revelling’ with other women he totally disregarded her affections.
ਤਾਕੇਧਾਮਨਿਤ੍ਯਚਲਿਆਵੈ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਨਿੱਤ ਚਲ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ,
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਠਾਨਿਨਹਿਕੇਲਕਮਾਵੈ॥੪॥
ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਰਤੀ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੪॥
He would come to her house every day, would show fondness but would not revel in making love.(4)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥
ਦੋਹਰਾ:

ਚਾਰਿਪਹਰਰਜਨੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿਰਮਤਹੁਤੋਸੁਖਪਾਇ॥
(ਉਹ ਰਾਜਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ) ਚਾਰ ਪਹਿਰ ਰਾਤ ਰਮਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ।
He had been making love with her during all the four watches of the night,
ਰੋਸਭਯੋਜਬਤੇਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਘਰੀਨਭੋਗਾਜਾਇ॥੫॥
ਪਰ ਜਦ ਤੋਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, (ਉਸ ਨਾਲ) ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਭੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੫॥
But now imbued in anger would not luxuriate even once,(5)

ਜਬਰਾਜਾਪੂਜਾਕਹਜਾਵੈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ,
ਤਬਵਹੁਸਮੌਜਾਰਤ੍ਰਿਯਪਾਵੈ॥
ਤਦ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ।
Whenever Raja went out to attend prayers, at that time, her patron would come.
ਮਿਲਿਬਾਤੈਦੋਊਯੌਕਰਹੀ॥
(ਉਹ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ
ਨ੍ਰਿਪਕੀਕਾਨਿਕਛੂਨਹਿਧਰਹੀ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਹੀ ਨਾ ਕਰਦੇ ॥੬॥
They gossiped freely without any care of the Raja,(6)
ਸਾਮੁਹਿਤਾਹਿਹੁਤੋਦਰਵਾਜੋ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ (ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ) ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਸੀ।
ਲਾਗਿਰਹਾਭੀਤਨਸੌਰਾਜੋ॥
(ਇਕ ਦਿਨ) ਰਾਜਾ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਗ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ)।
As the Raja’s door was quite opposite, and the Raja could hear their conversation.
ਜਬਇਹਭਾਤਿਜਾਰਸੁਨਿਪਾਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਯਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਾ
ਭਾਜਿਗਯੋਨਸਕ੍ਯੋਠਹਰਾਯੋ॥੭॥
(ਤਾਂ ਉਹ) ਠਹਿਰ ਨਾ ਸਕਿਆ, ਭਜ ਗਿਆ ॥੭॥
When the friend learnt this, he did not stay and ran away.(7)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥

ਨਿਰਖਿਕੋਪਦ੍ਰਿਗਰਾਇਕੇਨੀਚਤੁਰਤੁਗਯੋਭਾਜ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਉਹ) ਨੀਚ ਤੁਰਤ ਭਜ ਗਿਆ। (ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੁਕਣ ਲਈ)
Seeing Raja in extreme rage, he had immediately darted out.
ਭਾਤਿਅਨੇਕਮਨਾਇਯੋਤਊਨਫਿਰਾਨਿਲਾਜ॥੮॥
ਅਨੇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨਿਰਲਜ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਰੁਕਿਆ ॥੮॥
Rani tried to stop him, but that shameless did not hang about.(8)
ਚੌਪਈ॥

ਤਿਹਹਿਤਨਾਰਿਜਤਨਬਹੁਕੀਨੇ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਬਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤੇ
ਬਹੁਤੁਰੁਪਏਖਰਚਿਕਹਦੀਨੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਰੁਪਏ ਵੀ ਖ਼ਰਚਣ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
She tried very hard and spent lot of wealth,
ਕੋਟਿਕਰੇਏਕੋਨਹਿਭਯੋ॥
ਬਹੁਤ (ਯਤਨ) ਕੀਤੇ ਪਰ ਇਕ ਵੀ (ਸਫਲ) ਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਤਿਹਪਤਿਡਾਰਿਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਤੇਦਯੋ॥੯॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਹ ਸੁਟਿਆ ॥੯॥
But he did not yield and banished her from his heart.(9)
ਜਬਵਹੁਬਾਤਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਚਿਤਆਵੈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਚਾਰ ਦੀ) ਗੱਲ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੀ,
ਸੰਕਿਰਹੈਨਹਿਭੋਗਕਮਾਵੈ॥
ਤਾਂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸ਼ੰਕਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਭੋਗ ਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ।
As this now pestered his mind, he would not think of having sex with her.
ਯਹਸਭਭੇਦਇਕਨਾਰੀਜਾਨੈ॥
ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਨਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦੀ ਸੀ,
ਲਜਤਨਾਥਸੌਕਛੁਨਬਖਾਨੈ॥੧੦॥
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ॥੧੦॥
Only the woman knew this secret which, being ashamed, she could not disclose.(10)

ਤਬਰਾਜੇਐਸੇਕਹਾਯਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਕਛੂਨਦੇਉਾਂ॥
ਤਦ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ
Then Raja ordered not to give anything to the woman,
