ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਗਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਟੀ ਫਸ ਗਈ ਸੀ ॥੩॥

ਜਦ ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਸ਼ ਆਈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਪਾ ਲਈ।
When the Mughal regained consciousness, he hung his head,
ਅਤਿਲਜਤਜਿਯਮੈਭਯਾਬੈਨਨਭਾਖ੍ਯੋਜਾਇ॥੪॥
ਉਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਜਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ, (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਬੋਲਿਆ ਨਾ ਗਿਆ ॥੪॥
He was so much ashamed that he could not speak.(4)
ਅਬਮੈਯਾਹਿਉਬਾਰਿਯਾਸੀਤਲਬਾਰਿਪਿਯਾਇ॥
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਠੰਡਾ ਜਲ ਪਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
The woman told, ‘I have saved you by giving you cold water.’
ਸਭਸੌਐਸੀਭਾਤਿਕਹਿਤਾਕੌਦਿਯਾਉਠਾਇ॥੫॥
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ, ਉਸ (ਮੁਗ਼ਲ) ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਤੋਂ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੫॥
And acting this way, she made him to go away.(5)

ਜਹਾਗੀਰਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਕੇਬੇਗਮਨੂਰਜਹਾ॥
ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਬੇਗਮ ਸੀ।
Emperor Jehangir had Noor Jehan as his Begum, the Rani.
ਬਸਿਕੀਨਾਪਤਿਆਪਨਾਇਹਜਸਜਹਾਤਹਾ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਤੀ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਪਸਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
Whole world knew she was quite domineering over him.(1)

ਨੂਰਜਹਾਇਮਿਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ
ਜਹਾਗੀਰਸੁਨੁਸਾਹਹਮਾਰੇ॥
ਕਿ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ! ਸੁਣੋ।
Noor Jehan said to him like this, ‘Listen, Jehangir, my Raja,
ਹਮਤੁਮਆਜੁਅਖੇਟਕਜੈਹੈਂ॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਜ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਵਾਂਗੇ,
ਸਭਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨਕਹਸਾਥਬੁਲੈਹੈਂ॥੨॥
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ॥੨॥
‘Me and you go for hunting today and would take all the women with us.’(2)

ਜਹਾਗੀਰਏਬਚਨਸੁਨਿਖੇਲਨਚੜਾਸਿਕਾਰ॥
ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਖੇਡਣ ਲਈ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਿਆ।
Acquiescing to her request, Jehangir set out to go for hunting,
ਸਖੀਸਹੇਲੀਸੰਗਲੈਆਯੋਬਨਹਿਮੰਝਾਰ॥੩॥
ਸਖੀਆਂ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
And reached the jungle with all the lady-friends.(3)
ਅਰੁਨਬਸਤ੍ਰਤਨਮਹਿਧਰੇਇਮਿਅਬਲਾਦੁਤਿਦੇਹਿ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਲ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਮਕ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ
The ladies in their red clothes were looking so attractive,
ਨਰਬਪੁਰੇਕਾਸੁਰਨਕੇਚਿਤਚੁਰਾਏਲੇਹਿ॥੪॥
ਕਿ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੀ, ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਚੁਰਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੪॥
That they were penetrating the hearts of both, the humans and the gods (4)
ਨਵਲਬਸਤ੍ਰਨਵਲੈਜੁਬਨਨਵਲਾਤਿਯਾਅਨੂਪ॥
ਨਵੇਂ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ, ਨਵੀਂ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ ਦੀ
In new clothes, pristine youth, unique features,
ਤਾਕਾਨਨਮੈਡੋਲਹੀਰਤਿਸੇਸਕਲਸਰੂਪ॥੫॥
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਫਿਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੫॥
And distinctive ear-wears, they were all looking exquisite.(5)
ਇਕਗੋਰੀਇਕਸਾਵਰੀਹਸਿਹਸਿਝੂਮਰਦੇਹਿ॥
ਕੋਈ ਗੋਰੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਂਵਲੀ; ਹਸ ਹਸ ਕੇ ਧਮਾਰ ਪਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ
Some fair and some with dark complexion,
ਜਹਾਗੀਰਨਰਨਾਹਕੀਸਗਲਬਲੈਯਾਲੇਹਿ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੬॥
All were complimented by Jehangir.(6) .

ਸਬਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਥਿਨਅਰੂੜਿਤਭਈ॥
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਉਪਰ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ।
ਸਭਹੀਹਾਥਬੰਦੂਕੈਲਈ॥
ਸਭ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਲੈ ਲਈਆਂ।
Some women were riding the elephants and all were holding rifles in the hands.
ਬਿਹਸਿਬਿਹਸਿਕਰਿਬਚਨਸੁਨਾਵੈ॥
ਹਸ ਹਸ ਕੇ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ
ਜਹਾਗੀਰਕਹਸੀਸਝੁਕਾਵੈ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੭॥
They were gossiping, talking, and were bowing their heads to Jehangir.(7)
ਸਭਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨਕਰਜੋਰੈਕੀਨੌ॥
ਸਭ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜੋਟੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਈਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸਨ
They were gossiping, talking, and were bowing their heads to Jehangir.(7)
ਏਕਮ੍ਰਿਗਹਿਜਾਨੇਨਹਿਦੀਨੌ॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਹਿਰਨ ਵੀ ਜਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
Some were sitting with their folded hands; they did not let any deer to pass through.
ਕੇਤਿਕਬੈਠਬਹਲਪਰਗਈ॥
ਕਈ (ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ) ਸਵਾਰੀਆਂ (ਬਹਲੀਆਂ ਅਥਵਾ ਰਥਾਂ) ਉਤੇ ਗਈਆਂ।
Some were sitting with their folded hands; they did not let any deer to pass through.
ਹੈਗੈਕਿਤੀਅਰੂੜਿਤਭਈ॥੮॥
ਕਈ ਇਕ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋਈਆਂ ॥੮॥
Some were sitting on the backs of the bullocks and some were on the backs of the horses.(8)

ਕਿਨਹੂੰਗਹੀਤੁਫੰਗਕਰਕਿਨਹੂੰਗਹੀਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਫੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਪਕੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
Some drew out the guns and some swords,
ਕਿਨਹੂੰਕਟਾਰੀਕਾਢਿਲੀਕਿਨਹੂੰਤਨੀਕਮਾਨ॥੯॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਟਾਰ ਕੱਢੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਮਾਨ ਕਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ॥੯॥
Some were holding the spears and some bows and arrows.(9)

ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮਮ੍ਰਿਗਨਪਰਸ੍ਵਾਨਧਵਾਏ॥
ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਪਿਛੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਭਜਾਏ
ਪੁਨਿਚੀਤਾਤੇਹਰਿਨਗਹਾਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਚਿਤਰਿਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜਵਾਇਆ।
First the dogs were let loose to chase the deer, then were sent the tiger after them.
ਬਾਜਜੁਰਨਕਾਕਿਯਾਸਿਕਾਰਾ॥
ਬਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
First the dogs were let loose to chase the deer, then were sent the tiger after them.
ਨੂਰਜਹਾਪਰਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਅਪਾਰਾ॥੧੦॥
(ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ) ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੀ ॥੧੦॥
Then hunted the wild horses and all that was done because he loved Noor Jehan very much.(10)
ਰੋਝਹਰਿਨਝੰਖਾਰਸੰਘਾਰੇ॥
ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਚਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੋਝ (ਨੀਲ ਗਊਆਂ)
Then hunted the wild horses and all that was done because he loved Noor Jehan very much.(10)
ਨੂਰਜਹਾਗਹਿਤੁਪਕਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ॥
ਹਿਰਨ, ਝੰਖਾਰ (ਬਾਰਾਸਿੰਗੇ) ਮਾਰੇ।
Holding a gun, Noor Jehan, as well, killed deer, antelopes and bears.
ਕਿਨਹੂੰਹਨੇਬੇਗਮਨਬਾਨਾ॥
ਕਿਤਨਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਗਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਪਸੁਨਕਰਾਜਮਧਾਮਪਯਾਨਾ॥੧੧॥
(ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਮ-ਲੋਕ ਵਲ ਚਾਲੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੧੧॥
Also a number of animals killed by the other begums reached the heaven.(11)

ਅਧਿਕਰੂਪਬੇਗਮਨਿਰਖਿਰੀਝਿਰਹੈਮ੍ਰਿਗਕੋਟਿ॥
ਬੇਗਮ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਿਰਨ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ
The deer were so affected by the looks of the Begums,
ਗਿਰੇਮੂਰਛਨਾਹ੍ਵੈਧਰਨਿਲਗੇਬਿਨਾਸਰਚੋਟਿ॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਾਣ ਲਗੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਮੂਰਛਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਡਿਗ ਪਏ ॥੧੨॥
That they, without any hits, sacrificed their lives.(l2)
ਜਿਨਕੈਤੀਖਨਅਸਿਲਗੇਲੀਜਤਤਿਨੈਬਚਾਇ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਖੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲਗੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those who were struck with sharp swords could be saved,
ਜਿਨੈਦ੍ਰਿਗਨਕੇਸਰਲਗੇਤਿਨਕੋਕਛੁਨਉਪਾਇ॥੧੩॥
(ਪਰ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਣ ਲਗੇ ਹੋਣ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਦੇ ਬਚਾਓ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਉਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
But the ones, who were pierced by the arrows through female eyes, could not be.(13)

ਕਿਤੀਸਹਚਰੀਤੁਰੈਧਵਾਵੈ॥
ਕਈ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੌੜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ
ਪਹੁਚਿਮ੍ਰਿਗਨਕੋਘਾਇਲਗਾਵੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
A number of ladies rode the horses and injured the deer,
ਕਿਨਹੂੰਮ੍ਰਿਗਨਦ੍ਰਿਗਨਸਰਮਾਰੇ॥
ਕਈਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਤੀਰ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਨ।
ਬਿਨੁਪ੍ਰਾਨਨਗਿਰਿਗਏਬਿਚਾਰੇ॥੧੪॥
ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਹੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਡਿਗ ਪਏ ਸਨ ॥੧੪॥
And a few poor fellows lost their souls and fell down just effected by the arrows out of the female looks.(l4)
ਇਹੀਭਾਤਿਸੋਕੀਆਸਿਕਾਰਾ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਤਬਲੌਨਿਕਸਾਸਿੰਘਅਪਾਰਾ॥
ਉਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਆ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ।
The hunting was proceeding thus, when a huge lion emerged.
ਯਹਧੁਨਿਸਾਹਸ੍ਰਵਨਸੁਨਿਪਾਈ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਕੰਨੀ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ
ਸਕਲਨਾਰਿਇਕਠੀਹ੍ਵੈਆਈ॥੧੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਇਕੱਠੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਉਥੇ) ਆ ਗਈਆਂ ॥੧੫॥
The Emperor heard the roar, as well, and all the ladies gathered round him.(15)

ਬਹੁਅਰਨਾਭੈਸਾਨਕੋਆਗੇਧਰਾਬਨਾਇ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੈਂਡਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ (ਜੰਗਲੀ) ਝੋਟਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਗੇ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ
A shield (of protection), with the buffaloes, was created at the front,
ਤਾਪਾਛੇਹਜਰਤਿਚਲੇਬੇਗਮਸੰਗਸੁਹਾਇ॥੧੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਬੇਗਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਸ਼ੋਭਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਚਲ ਪਿਆ ॥੧੬॥
And then followed the Emperor and the Begums,(l6)

ਜਹਾਗੀਰਤਕਿਤੁਪਕਿਚਲਾਈ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰ ਨੇ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਚਲਾਈ,
ਸੋਨਹਿਲਗੀਸਿੰਘਕੇਜਾਈ॥
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਨਾ ਲਗੀ।
Jehangir aimed and shot but could not hit the lion,
ਅਧਿਕਕੋਪਕਰਿਕੇਹਰਿਧਾਯੋ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਭਜਿਆ
ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਕੇਊਪਰਆਯੋ॥੧੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਉਪਰ ਆਇਆ ॥੧੭॥
The lion was infuriated and jumped towards the Emperor.(17)
ਹਰਿਧਾਵਤਹਥਿਨੀਭਜਿਗਈ॥
ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੇ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਹਥਣੀ ਦੌੜ ਗਈ
ਨੂਰਜਹਾਦਿਕਠਾਢਨਪਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਨੂਰ ਜਹਾਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਠਹਿਰ ਨਾ ਸਕੀ।
The she-elephant ran away. Noor Jehan was stunned.
ਜੋਧਬਾਇਯਹਤਾਹਿਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਜੋਧਾਬਾਈ ਨੇ ਇਹ (ਸਥਿਤੀ) ਵੇਖੀ
ਤਾਕਿਤੁਪਕਕੋਘਾਇਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥੧੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ (ਸ਼ੇਰ) ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦੂਕ ਦੀ ਗੋਲੀ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
