ਜੋਮੁਹਰਨਕੇਸਨਹਿਬਤਾਵੈ॥
ਕਿ ਜੋ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਨ ਦਸੇਗਾ,
ਸੋਸਭਆਜੁਅਸਰਫੀਪਾਵੈ॥੨੩॥
ਉਹੀ ਅਜ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਗਾ ॥੨੩॥
‘The person who tells the date of minting will take over the coins.’(23)
ਸਨਮੁਹਰਨਕੋਬਨਿਕਨਜਾਨੋ॥
ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਨ ਬਨੀਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ।
ਮੂੰਦਿਰਹਾਮੁਖਕਛੁਨਬਖਾਨੋ॥
ਉਹ ਚੁਪ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ, ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਿਆ।
As the Shah did not know the date of min ting, he closed his eye and kept his mouth shut.

Then he cried incessantly and complained ‘Oh God why have you done this to me?’(24)

(ਠਗ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ-) ਇਕ ਸੌ ਅਕਬਰੀ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਹਾਂਗੀਰੀ ਦੋ ਸੌ ਹਨ;
(Swindler,) ‘There are one hundred Akbari coins and two hundred Jehangiri,
ਸਾਹਿਜਹਾਨੀਚਾਰਿਸੈਦੇਖਲੇਹੁਸਭਕੋਇ॥੨੫॥
ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਨੀ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਸੌ ਹਨ, ਸਭ ਕੋਈ (ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਵੇਖ ਲਵੇ ॥੨੫॥
And four hundred are there of Shahjehani which any person can come and confirm.(25)

ਜਦ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ
ਸੋਨਿਕਰੀਜੋਠਗਹਿਉਚਾਰੀ॥
(ਤਾਂ) ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਿਕਲੀਆਂ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਠਗ ਨੇ ਦਸੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
When the coins were checked in the assembly, they were found as the swindler had predicted.
ਕਾਜੀਛੀਨਿਸਾਹੁਤੇਲੀਨੀ॥
ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੇ (ਉਹ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ) ਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਲਈਆਂ
When the coins were checked in the assembly, they were found as the swindler had predicted.
ਲੈਤਸਕਰਕੇਕਰਮੈਦੀਨੀ॥੨੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਠਗ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ॥੨੬॥
Therefore the Quazi confiscate all those and gave them to the swindler.(26)

ਜਸਕਾਜੀਕੋਪਸਰਿਯੋਠਗਭਾਖ੍ਯੋਸਭਗਾਉ॥
ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਪਸਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਠਗ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਦਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ
The swindler praised the Quazi all over the town and said,
ਕੀਨੋਉਮਰਖਿਤਾਬਜਿਮਿਆਜੁਹਮਾਰੋਨ੍ਯਾਉ॥੨੭॥
ਕਿ (ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੇ) ਉਮਰ ਖ਼ਿਤਾਬ (ਖ਼ਲੀਫ਼ਾ) ਵਰਗਾ ਸਾਡਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੭॥
‘To day he has done the justice according the Holy Book.(27)

ਠਗ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਆਇਆ,
ਤਿਨਕਾਜੀਕਛੁਨ੍ਯਾਇਨਪਾਯੋ॥
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਇਸ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ (ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ।
‘The swindler took the coins to his house and, even, the Quazi could not acquiesce the hidden truth.
ਬਨਿਯਾਕਾਢਿਸਦਨਤੇਦੀਨਾ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਬਨੀਏ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਘਰੋਂ ਕਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ
‘The swindler took the coins to his house and, even, the Quazi could not acquiesce the hidden truth.
ਝੂਠੇਤੇਸਾਚਾਠਗਕੀਨਾ॥੨੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਠਗ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚਾ ਸਿੱਧ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੨੮॥
She banished the thief from the house as the swindler had turned falsehood into truth.(28)

ਠਗਹਿਅਸਰਫੀਸਾਤਸੈਕਰਦੀਨੀਨਰਨਾਹਿ॥
(ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਠਗ ਨੂੰ ਸਤ ਸੌ ਅਸ਼ਰਫੀਆਂ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ
The Quazi had got him seven hundred coins which,
ਤਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਪਹਿਲੈਆਇਯੋਅਪਨੇਘਰਕੇਮਾਹਿ॥੨੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ॥੨੯॥
He brought home to the woman.(29)(1)

ਰਾਤ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਂ ਚੋਰ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ।
When the night approached, the thief got up and
ਸਕਲਸ੍ਵਾਨਕੋਭੇਸਬਨਾਯੋ॥
ਸਾਰਾ ਭੇਸ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ।
Disguised himself as a dog.
ਸਾਹਿਜਹਾਕੇਗ੍ਰਿਹਪਗਧਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਨ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਾ ਵੜਿਆ
He went to the house of Shah Jehan.
ਗਪੈਕਹਤਗਪਿਅਹਿਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਗੱਪਾਂ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਗਾਲੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ॥੧॥
He came across a talkative gossiper there.(1)
ਏਦਿਲਸਾਹਨਾਮਤਸਕਰਬਰ॥
ਉਸ ਚੋਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਏਦਿਲ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਸੀ।
The name of the thief was Adal Shah.
ਆਯੋਸਾਹਿਜਹਾਜੂਕੇਘਰ॥
ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਹਜਹਾਨ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ।
He had come to the house of Shah Jehan.
ਰਾਜਮਤੀਨਾਰੀਹਿਤਗਯੋਤਹ॥
ਉਹ ਰਾਜ ਮਤੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਲਈ ਉਥੇ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ
For sake of Raj Mati he reached there,
ਰਾਜਨਕੋਰਾਜਾਸੋਵਤਜਹ॥੨॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
Where the Raja of the Rajas was slumbering.(2)

ਬਹੁਰੋਤਰਵਾਰਿਨਿਕਾਰਿਕੈਚੋਰਸੁਵਾਗਪਿਯਾਕਹਮਾਰਿਲਿਯੋ॥
ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਚੋਰ ਨੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਗਾਲੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Drawing the sword out, the thief killed the gossiper.
ਫੁਨਿਲਾਲਉਤਾਰਿਲਯੋਪਗਿਯਾਜੁਤਫੋਰਿਇਜਾਰਪੇਅੰਡਦਿਯੋ॥
ਫਿਰ ਲਾਲਾਂ ਸਹਿਤ ਪਗੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਲਵਾਰ ਉਤੇ ਅੰਡਾ ਭੰਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
He took away his red turban and broke an egg on the sword.
ਤਬਸੂਥਨਿਸਾਹੁਉਤਾਰਦਈਸਭਬਸਤ੍ਰਨਕੋਤਿਨਹਾਥਕਿਯੋ॥
ਤਦ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਸੁਥਣ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
The Shah took off his trousers and turned over his clothes in his hands.
ਫੁਨਿਗੋਸਟਿਬੈਠਿਕਰੀਤਿਹਸੌਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੇਹਿਤਕੈਕਰਿਗਾੜਹਿਯੋ॥੩॥
ਫਿਰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਲਈ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਕੜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੩॥
Then he pondered over, how, for the sake of a woman, the brawl had developed.(3)

ਸਾਹਲਖਾਬੀਰਜਗਿਰਾਕੀਨੀਦੂਰਿਇਜਾਰ॥
ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ (ਜਦੋਂ) ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ (ਸਲਵਾਰ ਉਤੇ) ਬੀਰਜ ਡਿਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ) ਸਲਵਾਰ ਉਤਾਰ ਕੇ ਪਰੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
As the semen had fallen on the Shah’s trousers, it was taken off.
ਬਸਤ੍ਰਪਗਰਿਯਾਲਾਲਜੁਤਕੀਨੇਚੋਰਸੰਭਾਰ॥੪॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਚੋਰ ਨੇ ਲਾਲਾਂ ਸਹਿਤ ਪਗੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਏ ॥੪॥
And the thief took care of the red turban and all the clothes.(4)

ਬੈਠਿਚੋਰੁਅਸਿਕਥਾਪ੍ਰਕਾਸੀ॥
ਚੋਰ ਨੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦਸੀ
ਏਕਚੋਰਦੂਜੋਧਰਫਾਸੀ॥
ਕਿ ਇਕ ਚੋਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਠਗ ('ਧਰ ਫਾਸੀ') ਸੀ।
The thief now sat down and narrated, ‘There was one thief and there was one who was worthy of hanging (swindler),
ਏਕਨਾਰਿਸੋਕੇਲਕਮਾਵੈ॥
(ਦੋਵੇਂ) ਇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਤੀ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ
The thief now sat down and narrated, ‘There was one thief and there was one who was worthy of hanging (swindler),
ਅਪਨੀਜਾਨਿਅਧਿਕਸੁਖਿਪਾਵੈ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੀ (ਇਸਤਰੀ) ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੫॥
‘They used to manipulate a woman. Both claimed that she was there to appease their minds.(5)
