ਸੁਨਿਬਾਲਾਮੈਬੈਨਤਿਹਾਰੋ॥
ਹੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਬਪੌਰਖਤੈਦੇਖੁਹਮਾਰੋ॥
ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ।
‘You listen to us now and watch our attainments.
ਅਧਿਕਬੀਰਜਜਾਮੈਜਿਯਧਰਿਹੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਅ (ਭਾਵ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ) ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਬਲ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਤਾਹੀਕਹਅਪਨੋਪਤਿਕਰਿਹੈ॥੧੧॥
ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਤੀ ਮੰਨ ਲੈ ॥੧੧॥
‘The one who displayed an higher aptitude through his semen, you declare him as your husband.’(11)
ਠਗਬਚਭਾਖਿਨਗਰਮਹਿਗਯੋ॥
ਠਗ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ
‘The one who displayed an higher aptitude through his semen, you declare him as your husband.’(11)
ਇਸਥਿਤਏਕਹਾਟਪਰਭਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਿਆ।
After announcing this, swindler went to the town and approached a shop.
ਮੁਹਰੈਸਕਲਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਤਹਧਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਦੁਕਾਨ ਵਿਚਲੀਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਸਾਹੁਭਏਇਹਭਾਤਿਉਚਰੀ॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਾ ॥੧੨॥
He saw a heap of gold-coins there and addressed the Shah.(12)

ਐਸਭਾਤਿਉਚਰਤਭਯਾਹ੍ਵੈਢੀਲੋਸਰਬੰਗ॥
ਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਲੀਨਤਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਾ
He spoke very Politely and said ‘Oh My Shah
ਮੁਹਰਨਕੋਸੌਦਾਕਰੌਸਾਹੁਤਿਹਾਰੇਸੰਗ॥੧੩॥
ਕਿ ਹੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧੩॥
‘Do you want to trade these gold coin with me?’ (13)
ਮਦਨਰਾਇਠਗਇਮਕਹੀਮਨਮੈਮੰਤ੍ਰਬਿਚਾਰਿ॥
ਮਦਨ ਰਾਇ ਠਗ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ
Madan Rai, the swindler, had said this after careful reflection,
ਲੈਮੁਹਰੈਰੁਪਯਾਦੇਵੌਤੁਮਕਹਸਾਹਸੁਧਾਰਿ॥੧੪॥
ਕਿ ਹੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ! (ਮੈਂ) ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧੪॥
‘Let us do a deal. You give me Gold coins in exchange of coins rupees.’(I4)

ਯੌਜਬਸਾਹਬੈਨਿਸੁਨਪਾਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੀ
ਕਾਢਿਅਸਰਫੀਧਨੀਕਹਾਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਅਸ਼ਰਫੀਆਂ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਨੀ ਹੋਣ ਨੂੰ ਜਣਾਇਆ।
When the Shah listened to the preposition, he brought out the coin
ਠਗਕੀਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਜਬੈਤੇਪਰੀ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਠਗ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਈ।
ਸਭਸਨਕੀਮਨਭੀਤਰਿਧਰੀ॥੧੫॥
ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਨ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਖ ਲਏ ॥੧੫॥
The swindler looked at the coins and checked the dates of minting. (15)
ਮੁਹਿਰੈਡਾਰਿਗੁਥਰਿਯਹਿਲਈ॥
ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁੱਥੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ
ਅਧਿਕਮਾਰਿਬਨਿਯਾਕਹਦਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਨੀਏ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਰ ਕੁਟਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ।
He left the coins there, picked up the bag, started to beat the Shah.
ਊਚੇਸੋਰਕਰਾਪੁਰਮਾਹੀ॥
(ਠਗ ਨੇ) ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਰੌਲਾ ਪਾਇਆ
ਮੈਮੁਹਰਨਕਹਬੇਚਤਨਾਹੀ॥੧੬॥
ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਚਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧੬॥
And began to shout very loud, ‘I do not want to sell the coins.’(l6)
ਸੋਰਸੁਨਤਪੁਰਜਨਸਭਧਾਏ॥
ਸ਼ੋਰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਗਰ ਵਾਸੀ
ਵਾਬਨਿਯਾਠਗਕੇਢਿਗਆਏ॥
ਉਸ ਬਨੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਠਗ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਗਏ।
People gathered around and saw them in altercation.
ਮੁਸਟਜੁਧਨਿਰਖਤਅਨੁਰਾਗੇ॥
ਮੁਕਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ
ਤਿਹਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਕਹਪੂਛਨਲਾਗੇ॥੧੭॥
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਣ ਲਗੇ ॥੧੭॥
They were surprised to see them in scuffle and asked the reason.(17)
ਤੁਮਕ੍ਯੋਜੁਧਕਰਤਹੋਭਾਈ॥
ਹੇ ਭਰਾਵੋ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਲੜ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ।
ਹਮੈਕਹਹੁਸਭਬ੍ਰਿਥਾਸੁਨਾਈ॥
(ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਦਸੋ।
‘Why are you fighting, tell us the whole story.’
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਕਹਅਬਹੀਗਹਿਲੈਹੈ॥
(ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ
ਲੈਕਾਜੀਪੈਨ੍ਯਾਇਚੁਕੈਹੈ॥੧੮॥
ਹੁਣ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਪਾਸ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੧੮॥
They caught hold of them both and told them to go to the Quazi, the priest arbitrator.(18)
ਸੁਨਤਬਚਨਉਦਿਤਠਗਭਯੋ॥
ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਠਗ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
ਤਾਕਹਲੈਕਾਜੀਪਹਗਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ (ਬਨੀਏ) ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਪਾਸ ਗਿਆ।
The swindler readily agreed and taking the Shah with him left for the Quazi.
ਅਧਿਕਦੁਖਿਤਹ੍ਵੈਦੀਨਪੁਕਾਰੋ॥
ਅਤਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਮਰਤਾਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਾ।
ਕਰਿਕਾਜੀਤੈਨ੍ਯਾਇਹਮਾਰੋ॥੧੯॥
ਹੇ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰੋ ॥੧੯॥
With great distress he requested the Quazi to do the justice.(19)

ਤਬਲਗਿਬਨਿਯਾਹ੍ਵੈਦੁਖੀਇਮਿਕਾਜੀਸੋਬੈਨ॥
ਉਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਬਨੀਆ ਵੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਾ
The Shah too, in agony begged the Quazi,
ਹਮਰੌਕਰੌਨਿਯਾਇਤੁਮਕਹਿਯੋਸ੍ਰਵਤਜਲਨੈਨ॥੨੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੰਝੂ ਕੇਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰ ਦਿਓ ॥੨੦॥
And asked him to do full justice.(20)

ਸੁਨੁਕਾਜੀਜੂਬਚਨਹਮਾਰੇ॥
ਹੇ ਕਾਜੀ ਜੀ! ਸਾਡੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੋ।
ਕਲਾਮੁਲਾਕੀਆਨਿਤਿਹਾਰੇ॥
ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ 'ਕਲਾਮੁਲਾ' (ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਕਲਾਮ, ਭਾਵ ਕੁਰਾਨ) ਦੀ ਕਸਮ।
ਖੁਦਾਇਸੁਨੌਗੇਦਾਦਹਮਾਰੋ॥
ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਸਾਡੀ ਫ਼ਰਿਆਦ ਸੁਣੇਗਾ।
ਹ੍ਵੈਹੌਦਾਵਨਗੀਰਤੁਹਾਰੋ॥੨੧॥
ਅਸੀਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਲੜ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥

ਅਧਿਕਦੀਨਹ੍ਵੈਠਗਕਹਿਯੋਸੁਨੁਕਾਜਿਨਕੇਰਾਇ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਠਗ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਹੇ ਕਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ!
‘Listen Quazi; listen to our accounts, keeping in mind the honour of Allah.
ਹਮਪੁਕਾਰਤੁਮਪੈਕਰੀਹਮਰੋਕਰੋਨ੍ਯਾਇ॥੨੨॥
ਅਸੀਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਡਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰੋ ॥੨੨॥
‘God, Almighty is all perceptive and hope He will facilitate us.(22)

ਪ੍ਰਗਟਸਭਾਮੈਦੁਹੂੰਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ॥
(ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ) ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਿਹਾ
Then the Quazi pondered over and addressed both in the gathering.
