ਅਬਆਛੋਤਿਹਕਫਨਬਨੈਯੈ॥
ਹੁਣ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਫ਼ਨ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ
‘Now a beautiful coffin should be arranged for her.
ਭਲੀਭਾਤਿਭੂਅਖੋਦਗਡੈਯੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਪੁਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਫ਼ਨਾਈਏ।
‘And digging deep, a grave should be prepared to bury her.
ਹੌਹੂੰਬ੍ਯਾਹਅਵਰਨਹਿਕਰਿਹੌ॥
ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਹੁਣ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਆਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ;
‘I will never get married again,
ਯਾਕੇਬਿਰਹਿਲਾਗਿਕੈਬਰਿਹੌ॥੭॥
ਇਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੜ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ ॥੭॥
‘And would pass life in her remembrance.’ (7)

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਫ਼ਨ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ
After calling the people and putting a nice coffin around,
ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰਨੀਨਾਰਿਕਹਇਹਬਿਧਿਦਿਯਾਦਬਾਇ॥੮॥
(ਉਸ) ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦਫ਼ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੮॥
This bad-character woman was buried.(8)(1)

ਬਹੁਰਸੁਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਕਥਾਉਚਾਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਫਿਰ ਇਕ ਕਥਾ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ
ਏਕਤਰੁਨਿਜੋਬਨਕੀਭਰੀ॥
ਕਿ ਇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਵਾਨ ਸੀ।
The minister related the tale of a woman who was very youthful.
ਏਕਚੋਰਤਾਕਹਠਗਬਰਿਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਚੋਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਠਗ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਅਧਿਕਅਨੰਦਦੁਹੂੰਚਿਤਕਰਿਯੋ॥੧॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧॥
She fell in love with a thief and a swindler and let both of them savour her.(1)
ਰੈਨਿਭਏਤਸਕਰਉਠਿਜਾਵੈ॥
ਰਾਤ ਪੈਣ ਤੇ ਚੋਰ (ਚੋਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ
She fell in love with a thief and a swindler and let both of them savour her.(1)
ਦਿਨਦੇਖਤਠਗਦਰਬੁਕਮਾਵੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਠਗ ਪੈਸੇ ਕਮਾ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
The thief would go during the night and the swindler would make money during the day.
ਤਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਸੌਦੋਊਭੋਗਕਮਾਈ॥
ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਭੋਗ ਵਿਲਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ,
The thief would go during the night and the swindler would make money during the day.
ਮੂਰਖਭੇਦਪਛਾਨਤਨਾਹੀ॥੨॥
(ਪਰ ਉਹ) ਮੂਰਖ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੨॥
Both enjoyed sex with her but the fools did not discern the woman.(2)
ਠਗਜਾਨੈਮੋਰੀਹੈਨਾਰੀ॥
ਠਗ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹੈ
ਚੋਰਕਹੈਮੋਰੀਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਚੋਰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ।
The swindler would think the woman was for him and the thief would consider her as his lover.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੈਤਾਹਿਦੋਊਪਹਿਚਾਨੈ॥
(ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਵੇਂ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਮਝਦੇ ਸਨ
ਮੂਰਖਭੇਦਨਕੋਊਜਾਨੈ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮੂਰਖ (ਇਸ) ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
The woman’s secret was not conceived and those simpletons remained in obscurity.(3)

ਏਕਰੁਮਾਲਬਾਲਹਿਤਕਾਢਾ॥
ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਰੁਮਾਲ ਕਢਿਆ।
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਕੇਜਿਯਆਨੰਦਬਾਢਾ॥
(ਉਸ ਰੁਮਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ।
She embroidered a handkerchief and both of them admired it.
ਵਹਜਾਨੈਮੋਰੇਹਿਤਕੈਹੈ॥
ਉਹ (ਠਗ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਹੈ
ਚੋਰਲਖੈਮੋਹੀਕਹਦੈਹੈ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਚੋਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ ॥੪॥
The swndler thought that it was for him and the thief took it granted that she would give him.(4)

ਚੋਰਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿਪ੍ਯਾਰਾਹੁਤੋਤਾਕਹੁਦਿਯਾਰੁਮਾਲ॥
ਚੋਰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੀ, (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੁਮਾਲ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
‘The woman loved the thief and, therefore, she gave him the handkerchief.
ਤਾਕਹੁਨੈਨਨਿਹਾਰਿਠਗਮਨਮੈਭਯਾਬਿਹਾਲ॥੫॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਠਗ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੫॥
Observing this swindler was deeply hurt.(5)

ਮੁਸਟਜੁਧਤਸਕਰਸੋਕਿਯੋ॥
(ਉਹ) ਚੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਘੁੰਨ ਮੁਕੀ ਹੋਇਆ
ਛੀਨਰੁਮਾਲਹਾਥਤੇਲਿਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਹੱਥ ਤੋਂ ਰੁਮਾਲ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ।
Be scuffled with the thief and snatched the handkerchief.
ਚੋਰਕਹਾਮੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਇਹਕਾਢਾ॥
ਚੋਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਢਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਯੌਸੁਨਿਅਧਿਕਰੋਸਜਿਯਬਾਢਾ॥੬॥
ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਠਗ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਹੋਰ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਵਧਿਆ ॥੬॥
‘The thief had stressed that the woman embroidered that for him, and learning this the swindler flew in a rage.(6)
ਆਪੁਬੀਚਗਾਰੀਦੋਊਦੇਹੀ॥
ਦੋਵੇਂ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਗਾਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਲਗੇ
‘The thief had stressed that the woman embroidered that for him, and learning this the swindler flew in a rage.(6)
ਦਾਤਿਨਿਕਾਰਕੇਸਗਹਿਲੇਹੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੰਦ ਪੀਂਹਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ (ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ) ਵਾਲ ਫੜ ਲਏ।
Screeching their teeth, they pulled each other’s hair.
ਲਾਤਮੁਸਟਕੇਕਰੈਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਾ॥
ਲੱਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਕਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ,
ਜਾਨੁਕਚੋਟਪਰੈਘਰਿਯਾਰਾ॥੭॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਘੜਿਆਲ ਉਤੇ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਣ ॥੭॥
Using their legs and fists they thrashed like the beat of the pendulum of the clock.(7)
ਦੋਊਲਰਿਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਪਹਿਆਏ॥
ਦੋਵੇਂ ਲੜਦੇ ਹੋਏ (ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ
Using their legs and fists they thrashed like the beat of the pendulum of the clock.(7)
ਅਧਿਕਕੋਪਹ੍ਵੈਬਚਨਸੁਨਾਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੇ।
When the fighting ceased, both, full of wrath, came to the woman,
ਠਗਤਸਕਰਦੁਹੂੰਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੀ॥
ਠਗ ਅਤੇ ਚੋਰ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਬੋਲਣ ਲਗੇ
ਤੈਇਹਨਾਰਿਕਿਮੋਰੀਨਾਰੀ॥੮॥
ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹੈਂ ਜਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੮॥
Both, the swindler and the thief shouted, ‘whose woman are you. His or mine?(8)

ਸੁਨਤਸਕਰਠਗਮੈਕਹੋਹੌਤਾਹੀਕੀਨਾਰਿ॥
ਹੇ ਚੋਰ ਅਤੇ ਠਗ! ਸੁਣੋ, ਮੈਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ
‘Listen, you, the thief and the swindler, I am the woman of one,
ਜੋਛਲਬਲਜਾਨੈਘਨੋਜਾਮੈਬੀਰਜਅਪਾਰ॥੯॥
ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਛਲ ਬਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
‘Who is most clever and who maintains greater intellect by dint of his semen.’(9)
ਬਹੁਰਿਬਾਲਐਸੇਕਹਾਸੁਨਹੁਬਚਨਮੁਰਏਕ॥
ਫਿਰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੋ।
Then she added, ‘Listen carefully what I say,
ਸੋਮੋਕੋਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਕਰੈਜਿਹਮਹਿਹੁਨਰਅਨੇਕ॥੧੦॥
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸਮਝੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕ ਹੁਨਰ ਹੋਣ ॥੧੦॥
‘One who wants to call me as his woman must show extraordinary intelligence.’(10)
