ਤਾਦਿਨਤੇਤਿਹਨਾਰਿਸੌਰਮ੍ਯੋਨਰੁਚਿਉਪਜਾਇ॥੩੮॥
ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਰੁਚੀ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਭੋਗ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੩੮॥
And from that day onward he never made love to her.(38)
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਨਾਰਿਕਹਭਜਤਹੁਤੋਸੁਖੁਪਾਇ॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ,
He did think many a time to enjoy with her,
ਬਾਤਆਇਚਿਤਿਜਾਇਜਬਘਰੀਨਭੋਗਾਜਾਇ॥੩੯॥
ਪਰ ਜਦ ਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ (ਉਹ) ਗੱਲ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਭੋਗ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩੯॥
But with the same episode in his mind he could not revel sexually.(39)

ਇਹਰਾਨੀਜੀਯਭੀਤਰਜਾਨੈ॥
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਰਾਣੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਸੀ,
ਲਜਤਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਸੌਕਛੁਨਬਖਾਨੈ॥
ਪਰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਦਸਦੀ।
The Rani was very ashamed in her mind but to maintain self-respect
ਬਾਤਨਸੌਤਾਕਹਬਿਰਮਾਵੈ॥
ਗੱਲਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਚਾਉਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ
ਕਰਿਕਰਿਅਧਿਕਕਟਾਛਦਿਖਾਵੈ॥੪੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਟਾਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਖਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੪੦॥
Never revealed the secret to the Raja.( 40)

ਸਭਕਛੁਟੂਟੇਜੁਰਤਹੈਜਾਨਿਲੇਹੁਮਨਮਿਤ॥
ਹੇ ਮਿਤਰ! ਇਹ (ਭਲੀ ਭਾਂਤ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੋ ਕਿ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਟੁਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Listen my friend, all that breaks can be mended,
ਏਦ੍ਵੈਟੂਟੇਨਜੁਰਹਿਏਕੁਸੀਸਅਰੁਚਿਤ॥੪੧॥
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਦੋ (ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ) ਟੁਟੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦੀਆਂ। ਇਕ ਸਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਚਿਤ ॥੪੧॥
But the broken mind and thought cannot be reconciled.(41)
ਚਾਕਰਕੀਅਰੁਨਾਰਿਕੀਏਕੈਬਡੀਸਜਾਇ॥
ਨੌਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਲਈ ਇਹੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ
The only tangible punishment befitting a servant or a wife,
ਜਿਯਤੇਕਬਹਨਮਾਰਿਯਹਿਮਨਤੇਮਿਲਹਿਭੁਲਾਇ॥੪੨॥
ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਨਾ ਮਾਰੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੀਏ ॥੪੨॥
Is not to kill them but forgive them.( 42)(1)

ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ

ਤਾਤੇਤੁਮਕਹਅਧਿਕਰਿਝੈਹੌ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਧਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
I would narrate you a female-Chritar, which could appease you.(1)
ਸਹਰਸਿਰੰਦਬਿਖੈਇਕਜੋਗੀ॥
ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਜੋਗੀ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ)
ਕਾਮਕੇਲਭੀਤਰਅਤਿਭੋਗੀ॥
ਜੋ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਰੁਚੀ ਰਖਦਾ ਸੀ।
There used to live an ascetic in the city of Sirhand, who, as a matter of fact, relished the sex.
ਏਕਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀਕੇਗ੍ਰਿਹਆਵੈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਇਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ
There used to live an ascetic in the city of Sirhand, who, as a matter of fact, relished the sex.
ਤਾਕੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਸੋਭੋਗਕਮਾਵੈ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
He used to come to one household and pamper in sex with the lady.(2)
ਸੁਰਗਨਾਥਜੋਗੀਕਾਨਾਮਾ॥
(ਉਸ) ਜੋਗੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਸੁਰਗ ਨਾਥ ਸੀ।
ਸ੍ਰੀਛਬਿਮਾਨਮਤੀਵਹਨਾਮਾ॥
ਉਸ (ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਛਬਿ ਮਾਨ ਮਤੀ ਸੀ।
His name was Jogi Surg Nath, and name of the woman was Chhab Maan Mati.
ਵਾਸੌਨਿਸੁਦਿਨਭੋਗਕਮਾਵੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ) ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ,
His name was Jogi Surg Nath, and name of the woman was Chhab Maan Mati.
ਤਾਕੋਨਾਹਨਾਹਿਕਛੁਪਾਵੈ॥੩॥
(ਪਰ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਦਾ) ਕੁਝ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
They enjoyed the sex day in and day out, but her husband did not know the fact.(3)

ਇਕਦਿਨਜੋਗੀਘਰਹੁਤੋਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀਪਹੂੰਚ੍ਯਾਆਇ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਜੋਗੀ (ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੀ। (ਉਤੋਂ) ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥੀ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ।
One day while the ascetic was still in the house, her householder came back.
ਤਾਸੌਕਹਾਬਨਾਇਤ੍ਰਿਯਏਕਚਰਿਤਸਮਝਾਇ॥੪॥
ਉਸ (ਜੋਗੀ) ਨੂੰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ (ਕਥਾ) ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੪॥
Then his wife, playing vilely, misled him (husband) like this,(4)

ਕਾਢੇਖੜਗਹਾਥਤੁਮਧੈਯਹੁ॥
(ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਹੇ ਸੇਵਕ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਭਜ ਜਾ
ਦੌਰਤਨਿਕਟਸੁਯਾਕੇਜੈਯਹੁ॥
ਅਤੇ ਭਜਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਤੀ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਜਾਈਂ।
(She asked the ascetic,) ‘Taking a naked sword in your hand you come in the house running,
ਤਾਹਿਸੁਨਾਇਬਚਨਇਮਭਾਖ੍ਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਬੋਲ ਕਹੀਂ
(She asked the ascetic,) ‘Taking a naked sword in your hand you come in the house running,
ਮੋਰੋਚੋਰਚੋਰਿਇਨਰਾਖ੍ਯੋ॥੫॥
ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ (ਇਸਤਰੀ) ਨੇ ਲੁਕਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
And challenge that he had hidden away your thief. (5)

ਭ੍ਰਿਤਜੁਤੁਹਾਰੋਨਾਥਇਹਤਾਕਹੁਜਾਹੁਦੁਰਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਸੇਵਕ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਲੁਕਾ।
‘To save him I will hide him some where with an intention to bring
ਤਾਕੌਬਹੁਰਿਨਿਕਾਰਿਹੌਕਛੁਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਬਨਾਇ॥੬॥
(ਮੈਂ) ਫਿਰ ਕੋਈ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਢ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ ॥੬॥
Him out with some Chritar.’(6)

ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਉਸ (ਪਤੀ) ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੀ ॥੭॥
When her husband emerged from hiding, she hid away the ascetic and said to him,(7)
ਸੁਨੋਨਾਥਇਕਕਥਾਉਚਰੋ॥
ਹੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇਵ! ਸੁਣੋ, ਇਕ ਗੱਲ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ,
When her husband emerged from hiding, she hid away the ascetic and said to him,(7)
ਤੁਮਤੇਅਧਿਕਚਿਤਮੈਡਰੋ॥
ਪਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
‘Oh, my love, dreadfully, I want to tell you a tale.
ਕੋਪਏਕਜੋਗੀਕਹਜਾਗ੍ਯੋ॥
ਇਕ ਜੋਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ
ਨਿਜੁਚੇਲਾਕਹਮਾਰਨਲਾਗ੍ਯੋ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਗਾ ॥੮॥
‘An ascetic flying in the rage, started to beat his disciple,(8)
ਮੈਜੁਗਿਯਾਕਹਦਯੋਹਟਾਈ॥
ਮੈਂ ਜੋਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਹਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਵਾਚੇਲਾਕਹਲਯੋਛਪਾਈ॥
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਕਾ ਲਿਆ।
‘I persuaded the ascetic to spare him and hid away the disciple.
ਚਲਹੁਨਾਥਉਠਿਤੁਮੈਦਿਖਾਊ॥
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਚਲੋ, ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਵਾਂ
ਤਾਤੇਤੁਮਰੋਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਸਿਰਾਊ॥੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਾਂ ॥੯॥
‘Now, come and I will show you to eliminate your doubt.(9)

ਭਲਾਕਿਯਾਤੈਰਾਖ੍ਯਾਸੁਖਿਤਕਿਯਾਮੁਰਚੀਤਿ॥
ਤੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੀਤਾ (ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਬਚਾਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
‘You have acted very wisely and have pleased my heart.’ (he said).
ਸਰਨਾਗਤਦੀਜਤਨਹੀਇਹੈਬਡਨਕੀਰੀਤਿ॥੧੦॥
ਸ਼ਰਨਾਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਵੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਇਹੀ ਵੱਡਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੀਤ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
‘Benevolent people never let one succumb, when one has come to seek the protection,’ (she added).(10)
ਸੁਨਤਮਨੋਹਰਬਾਤਜੜਰੀਝਿਗਯੋਮਨਮਾਹਿ॥
ਇਹ ਸੁਖਾਵੀਂ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੂਰਖ (ਪਤੀ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋਇਆ
Listening to such talk he was very much delighted,
ਅਧਿਕਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਤਾਸੋਕਰੀਭੇਦਪਛਾਨਾਨਾਹਿ॥੧੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਗਾ, ਪਰ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
And without understanding the realty, love the wife even more.(11)(1)
ਇਤਿਸ੍ਰੀਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੋਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਭੂਪਸੰਬਾਦੇਚੌਤੀਸਵੋਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਸਮਾਪਤਮਸਤੁਸੁਭਮਸਤੁ॥੩੪॥੬੭੧॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

(ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ) ਕਿਹਾ, ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣੋ।

ਦੱਖਣ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

In a country in the south, a Raja used to live, who was very handsome.(1)

ਤਾਕੋਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਲਹਨਤ੍ਰਿਯਆਵਹੀ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ
To relish his looks, woman used to come,
ਨਿਰਖਿਪ੍ਰਭਾਬਲਿਜਾਹਿਸਭੈਸੁਖਪਾਵਹੀ॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
They were blessed by gazing at his handsomeness.
ਪਿਯਪਿਯਤਾਕਹਬੈਨਸਦਾਮੁਖਭਾਖਹੀ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ
They always yearned for him,
ਹੋਅਧਿਕਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਰਾਜਾਸੋਨਿਤਿਪ੍ਰਤਿਰਾਖਹੀ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਉਸ ਰਾਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ (ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ) ਰਖਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੨॥
And they ever loved him intensively.(2)

Dohira
ਦ੍ਵੈਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਤਾਕੇਰਹੈਅਮਿਤਰੂਪਕੀਖਾਨਿ॥
ਉਸ (ਰਾਜੇ) ਕੋਲ ਦੋ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਅਮਿਤ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਖਾਣ (ਸਮਝੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ) ਸਨ।
Two women used to live with him,
ਏਕਸੰਗਰਾਜਾਰਮੈਅਧਿਕਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਜੀਯਜਾਨਿ॥੩॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਇਕ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਨੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਮਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
And the Raja used to make love intensively with one.(3)
ਏਕਦਿਵਸਦੋਊਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਨ੍ਰਿਪਬਰਲਈਬੁਲਾਇ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ
Once the Raja called in both of them,
ਆਖਿਮੀਚਨਖੇਲਤਭਯੋਅਧਿਕਨੇਹਉਪਜਾਇ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਹਿਤ ਲੁਕਣ-ਮੀਟੀ (ਦੀ ਖੇਡ) ਖੇਡਣ ਲਗਿਆ ॥੪॥
And indulged in the play of hide-and-seek.(4)
