ਰਾਜਾ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਬੇਹੋਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
ਸੋਇਰਹਿਯੋਨਹਿਸੁਧਹਿਸੰਭਾਰੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬੇਸੁਰਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੌਂ ਗਿਆ।
As the Raja had too much wine, he was intoxicated and fell flat to sleep,
ਪਤਿਸੋਯੋਲਹਿਤ੍ਰਿਯਮਨਮਾਹੀ॥
ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਤਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ
ਭੇਦਅਭੇਦਪਛਾਨ੍ਯੋਨਾਹੀ॥੨੬॥
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੨੬॥
Beholding him in deep slumber, she lost the sense of morality and dishonour.(26)

ਤ੍ਰਿਯਜਾਨ੍ਯੋਸੋਯੋਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਗਈਜਾਰਿਪਹਿਧਾਇ॥
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ (ਤੁਰਤ) ਯਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ।
Deeming the Raja to be in deep sleep, she ran and reached her lover,
ਜਾਗਤਕੋਸੋਵਤਸਮਝਿਭੇਦਨਲਹਾਕੁਕਾਇ॥੨੭॥
ਜਾਗਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਖੋਟੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਾਲੀ (ਗਣੀ) ਨੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ॥੨੭॥
But she had not acquiesced the secret and had, mistakenly, taken a person fully awake as in deep slumber.(27)

ਰਾਨੀਗਈਭੂਪਤਬਜਾਗਿਯੋ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਰਾਣੀ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਗ ਗਿਆ
ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਕੁਅਰਿਕੋਹਿਤਅਨੁਰਾਗਿਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਣੀ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
The Raja roused when she had gone, he felt to love her too,
ਬਹੁਰੋਤਿਨਕੋਪਾਛੋਗਹਿਯੋ॥
ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਗਿਆ
ਕੇਲਕਮਾਤਸੁੰਨ੍ਰਯਗ੍ਰਿਹਲਹਿਯੋ॥੨੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੰਨੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ॥੨੮॥
He followed her and found her making love in a derelict house,(28)

ਨਿਰਖਰਾਇਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੋਰਮਤਸਰਤਨਿਕਾਨਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਰਮਣ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਨ ਤਕ ਖਿਚਿਆ
The Raja on seeing two in love flew in rage,
ਅਬਇਨਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਕੋਹਨੇਯੌਕਹਿਕਸੀਕਮਾਨ॥੨੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸੋਚ ਕੇ ਕਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਸ ਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਹੁਣੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿਆਂ ॥੨੯॥
And wished to pull out a bow and shoot them both.(29)

ਬਹੁਰਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਕੇਯੌਮਨਿਆਈ॥
ਫਿਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਆਈ
ਸੰਕਿਰਹਾਨਹਿਚੋਟਚਲਾਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੰਕਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਾਣ ਨਾ ਚਲਾਇਆ।
After some thinking Raja changed his mind and did not shoot the arrow.
ਯਹਬਿਚਾਰਮਨਮਾਹਿਬਿਚਾਰਾ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ
ਜਾਰਸਹਿਤਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੌਨਹਿਮਾਰਾ॥੩੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਯਾਰ ਸਹਿਤ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥੩੦॥
He thought that woman with her lover should not be killed.(30)
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥

ਜੌਇਨਕਹਅਬਮਾਰਿਹੌਇਮਿਬਾਹਰਿਉਡਿਜਾਇ॥
ਜੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਇਹ (ਗੱਲ) ਬਾਹਰ ਧੁਮ ਜਾਏਗੀ
‘If I kill them now, then the news will soon spread,
ਆਨਪੁਰਖਸੌਗਹਿਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਜਮਪੁਰਦਈਪਠਾਇ॥੩੧॥
ਕਿ ਹੋਰ ਮਰਦ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ (ਭੋਗ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਯਮਲੋਕ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੩੧॥
‘That the Raja had killed her while she was making love with a not person.’(31)

ਤਿਨਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਨਹਿਬਾਨਚਲਾਯੋ॥
(ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਾਣ ਨਾ ਚਲਾਇਆ
ਤਹਤੇਉਲਟਿਬਹੁਰਿਘਰਆਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਥੋਂ ਫਿਰ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤ ਆਇਆ।
Obviously he did not shoot an arrow on them both and returned to his house.
ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਮਤੀਸੌਭੋਗਕਮਾਨੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਗ ਕੀਤਾ

ਪੌਢਿਰਹਾਸੋਵਤਸੋਜਾਨੋ॥੩੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਲੰਮਾ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੁਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੩੨॥
He made love with Hirde Mati and went to his bed.(32)
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਆਈਤਾਸੌਰਤਿਕਰਿਕੈ॥
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਉਸ (ਯਾਰ) ਨਾਲ ਭੋਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ
ਅਧਿਕਚਿਤਕੇਭੀਤਰਡਰਿਕੈ॥
ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਆ ਗਈ।
The woman returned after sleeping with the stranger, although, internally, very scared
ਪੌਢਿਰਹੀਤ੍ਰਯੋਹੀਲਪਟਾਈ॥
(ਆ ਕੇ) ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਿਪਟ ਕੇ ਸੌਂ ਗਈ
The woman returned after sleeping with the stranger, although, internally, very scared
ਸੋਵਤਜਾਨਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਹਰਖਾਈ॥੩੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਤਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੩੩॥
She was the Raja asleep in the same manner and she clutched him and went to sleep as well.(33)
ਸੋਵਤਸੋਨ੍ਰਿਪਲਖਿਹਰਖਾਨੀ॥
ਉਦੋਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਤਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋਈ,

ਮੂਰਖਨਾਰਿਬਾਤਨਹਿਜਾਨੀ॥
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਔਰਤ ਨੇ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਸਮਝੀ।
That foolish had not discerned the secret, as she saw the Raja still in deep sleep.
ਜਾਗਤਪਤਿਸੋਵਤਪਹਿਚਾਨਾ॥
ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮਝਿਆ

ਮੋਰਭੇਦਇਨਕਛੂਨਜਾਨਾ॥੩੪॥
ਅਤੇ (ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਭੇਦ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੩੪॥
Observing the husband in profound snooze, she thought her secret had not been revealed to any one.(34) .
ਰਾਵਬਚਨਤਬਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿਸੁਨਾਯੋ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ
Observing the husband in profound snooze, she thought her secret had not been revealed to any one.(34) .
ਕਹਗਈਥੀਤੈਹਮੈਬਤਾਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਸ ਕਿ ਕਿਥੇ ਗਈ ਸੀ?
When (later on) the Raja asked the woman, ‘Tell me where had you gone?’
ਤਬਰਾਨੀਇਮਿਬੈਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਤਦ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ,
When (later on) the Raja asked the woman, ‘Tell me where had you gone?’
ਸੁਨੁਰਾਜਾਪ੍ਰਾਨਨਤੇਪਿਆਰੇ॥੩੫॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਸੁਣੋ ॥੩੫॥
‘The Rani, in reply told like this, ‘Listen, my Raja,(35)
ਸੁਨਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਬਰਇਕਟਕਮੁਹਿਪਰੀ॥
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਰਾਜਨ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਆਦਤ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਹੈ
ਸੋਤੁਮਰੇਸੋਵਤਹਮਕਰੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਸੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
‘Oh, My Raja I had fumbled while sleeping with you.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰਏਕਬਿਧਿਦਿਯਾਹਮਾਰੇ॥
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਧਾਤਾ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ
ਤੇਮੋਕਹਪ੍ਰਾਨਨਤੇਪ੍ਯਾਰੇ॥੩੬॥
ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੀ ॥੩੬॥
‘In the dream God gave me a son, who was more precious than my own life.’(36)

ਪੁਤ੍ਰਸੇਜਕੇਚਹੂੰਦਿਸਿਲੇਤਭਵਰਿਯਾਨਿਤ॥
ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਦੇ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੇ (ਮੈਂ) ਨਿੱਤ ਭੁਆਟਣੀਆਂ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ)।
‘This son kept on going around in the four directions of the bed,
ਵਹੈਜਾਨੁਤੁਮਰੇਫਿਰੀਸਤਿਸਮਝਿਯਹੁਚਿਤ॥੩੭॥
ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਚ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੋ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ॥੩੭॥
‘That is why I went away from you. Please do believe, it is true.’(37)
ਪ੍ਰਿਯਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੌਹਨਿਨਸਕਿਯੋਮਨਤੇਖੁਰਕਨਜਾਇ॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਨਾ ਸਕਿਆ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਕਰਕ ਨਾ ਗਈ।
The Raja could not kill the wife, but his doubt was not eliminated,
