ਤਿਹਜਿਯਸੋਕਤਵਨਕੌਭਾਰੋ॥੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
Her husband had departed for a foreign land which gave her a big shock.(2)

ਅਮਿਤਦਰਬਤਾਕੇਸਦਨਚੋਰਨਸੁਨੀਸੁਧਾਰਿ॥
ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ ਹੈ।
When thieves learned that she had lot of wealth at her house,
ਰੈਨਿਪਰੀਤਾਕੇਪਰੇਅਮਿਤਮਸਾਲੈਜਾਰਿ॥੩॥
ਰਾਤ ਪੈਣ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਸ਼ਾਲਾਂ ਬਾਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆ ਪਏ ॥੩॥
They took torches and headed towards her house.(3)

ਚੋਰਆਵਤਅਤਿਨਾਰਿਨਿਹਾਰੇ॥
ਜਦ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਐਸਭਾਤਿਸੋਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੀ।
When she saw the thieves coming, she said,
ਸੁਨੁਤਸਕਰਮੈਨਾਰਿਤਿਹਾਰੀ॥
ਹੇ ਚੋਰੋ! ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਅਪਨੀਜਾਨਕਰਹੁਰਖਵਾਰੀ॥੪॥
ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰੋ ॥੪॥
‘Listen, you, I am your woman, and considering as your own, protect me.(4)

ਘਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹਰ ਲਵੋ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਜਾਓ
‘You can steel everything from the house and take me with you as weIl,
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਕੇਰੈਨਿਦਿਨਮੋਸੌਕੇਲਕਮਾਹੁ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰੋ ॥੫॥
‘And, in numerous ways, enjoy with me.(5)
ਪ੍ਰਥਮਹਮਾਰੇਧਾਮਕੋਭੋਜਨਕਰਹੁਬਨਾਇ॥
ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰੋ
‘First I will prepare meals for you in my house,
ਪਾਛੇਮੁਹਿਲੈਜਾਇਯਹੁਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਹਰਖਉਪਜਾਇ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਜਾਓ ॥੬॥
‘And then take me with you and savour me heart fully’.(6)

ਚੋਰਕਹਿਯੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਭਲੀਉਚਾਰੀ॥
ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਠੀਕ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਬਨਾਰੀਤੈਭਈਹਮਾਰੀ॥
ਹੁਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਡੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
The thieves thought that she was right, she was their own.
ਪ੍ਰਥਮਭਛਕੈਹਮਹਿਖਵਾਵਹੁ॥
ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਾਓ
ਤਾਪਾਛੇਮੁਰਿਨਾਰਿਕਹਾਵਹੁ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਸਾਡੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਅਖਵਾਓ ॥੭॥
‘First we have meals and then let her become our woman.’(7)

ਚੌਛਤਾਪਰਤਬਤਰੁਨਿਚੋਰਨਦਿਯੌਚਰਾਇ॥
ਤਦ (ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੌਬਾਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
The woman sent the thieves to upstairs,
ਆਪਿਕਰਾਹੀਚਾਰਿਕੈਲੀਨੇਬਰੇਪਕਾਇ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਕੜਾਹੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਵੜੇ ਪਕਾ ਲਏ ॥੮॥
And herself, putting the saucepan on fire, commenced cooking.(8)

ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਲ ਉਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਆਪੁਮਾਰਿਤਾਲੇਉਠਿਆਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਜੰਦਰਾ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਆ ਗਈ।
After sending them up in the pent-house, she came down and locked the door behind
ਬੈਠਿਤੇਲਕੋਭੋਜਪਕਾਯੋ॥
ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਤੇਲ ਵਿਚ ਭੋਜਨ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ
After sending them up in the pent-house, she came down and locked the door behind
ਅਧਿਕਬਿਖੈਭੇਤਾਹਿਮਿਲਾਯੋ॥੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੯॥
She, then settled down to prepare the meal and put poison in that.(9)

ਡਾਰਿਮਹੁਰਾਭੋਜਮੈਚੋਰਨਦਯੋਖਵਾਇ॥
ਭੋਜਨ ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
With poison in she presented meal to the thieves,
ਨਿਕਸਿਆਪਿਆਵਤਭਈਤਾਲੋਦ੍ਰਿੜਕਰਿਲਾਇ॥੧੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਾਲਾ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਆਈ ॥੧੦॥
And herself locked the door and came down.(10)

ਹਸਿਹਸਿਬੈਨਚੋਰਸੋਕਹੈ॥
ਉਹ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ (ਨਾਇਕ ਦੇ) ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ
ਤਾਕੋਹਾਥਹਾਥਸੋਗਹੈ॥
ਹਸ ਹਸ ਕੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੀ।
(To leader of the thieves who was in the kitchen) She talked to him jovially by giving her hand in his.
ਬਾਤਨਸੋਤਾਕੋਬਿਰਮਾਵੈ॥
ਉਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਚਾਉਂਦੀ ਰਹੀ
(To leader of the thieves who was in the kitchen) She talked to him jovially by giving her hand in his.
ਬੈਠੀਆਪਿਤੇਲਅਵਟਾਵੈ॥੧੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਬੈਠੀ ਤੇਲ ਕਾਹੜਦੀ ਰਹੀ ॥੧੧॥
She gave him pleasure through her talks while she put oil (on fire) to boil.(11)

ਤੇਲਜਬੈਤਾਤੋਭਯੋਤਾਕੀਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਬਚਾਇ॥
ਜਦ ਤੇਲ ਗਰਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਬਚਾ ਕੇ
When the oil was hot enough, with stealthy looks,
ਡਾਰਿਸੀਸਤਾਕੇਦਯੋਮਾਰਿਯੋਚੋਰਜਰਾਇ॥੧੨॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਚੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੨॥
She dumped it on his head and thus killed him.(12)
ਚੋਰਰਾਜਜਰਿਕੈਮਰਿਯੋਚੋਰਮਰਿਯੋਬਿਖੁਖਾਇ॥
ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ (ਬਾਕੀ) ਚੋਰ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਗਏ।
The leader of the thieves was killed with the boiling oil and others died of eating poison.
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਭਏਕੁਟਵਾਰਕੇਸਭਹੀਦਏਬੰਧਾਇ॥੧੩॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਕੋਤਵਾਲ (ਨੂੰ ਦਸ ਕੇ) ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੩॥
In the morning she went and related the whole story to (he chief of the police.(l3)(1)
