ਗੁਲਾਲ ਦੀ ਇਤਨੀ ਹਨੇਰੀ ਚਲੀ ਕਿ ਬੰਦੇ ਵੀ ਦਿਸਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ ॥੧੬॥
When, suddenly, the dust-storm subdued the vision.(l6)
ਕ੍ਰਮਕ੍ਰਮਬਜੈਬਜੰਤ੍ਰਬਹੁਰੁਨਝੁਨਮੁਰਲਿਮੁਚੰਗ॥
ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਚੰਗ ਨੇ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣ ਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
Soon after the music was ensued the voices of the flutes started to emanate
ਝਿਮਿਝਿਮਿਬਰਸਿਯੋਨੇਹਰਸਦ੍ਰਿਮਦ੍ਰਿਮਦਯਾਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ॥੧੭॥
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਦੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਮ ਦ੍ਰਿਮ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੭॥
The melodies, accompanied with the drums, commenced to flow again.(17)

ਅਲਤਾਸਾਥਭਯੋਅੰਧਯਾਰੋ॥
ਗੁਲਾਲ (ਦੇ ਸੁਟੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਪਰਤਨਹਿਹਾਥਪਸਾਰੋ॥
ਹੱਥ ਪਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਵੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਆਉਂਦੇ।
The sprinkling of colours became so intense that even the hand was not visible
ਰਾਨੀਪਤਿਅੰਬੀਰਦ੍ਰਿਗਪਾਰਾ॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,

The Rani put colour in her husband’s eyes and blinded him(18)

ਏਕਆਖਿਕਾਨਾਹੁਤੋਦੁਤਿਯੋਪਰਾਅੰਬੀਰ॥
(ਰਾਜਾ) ਇਕ ਅੱਖੋਂ ਕਾਣਾ ਸੀ, ਦੂਜੀ (ਅੱਖ) ਵਿਚ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ।
He was already blind of one eye and other was shut with the colours too:
ਗਿਰਿਯੋਅੰਧਜਿਮਿਹ੍ਵੈਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਦ੍ਰਿਗਜੁਤਭਯੋਅਸੀਰ॥੧੯॥
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੈਦੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਾਜਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਡਿਗ ਪਿਆ ॥੧੯॥
Becoming total blind, the Raja fell flat on the ground.( 19)
ਰਾਨੀਨਵਰੰਗਰਾਇਕੌਤਬਹੀਲਿਯਾਬੁਲਾਇ॥
ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਨਵਰੰਗ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ
The Rani, then, called Navrang at that instant.
ਆਲਿੰਗਨਚੁੰਬਨਕਰੇਦਿੜਰਤਿਕਰੀਮਚਾਇ॥੨੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੁੰਮ ਕੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਾਮਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੨੦॥
She passionately kissed him and fully enjoyed.(20)
ਜਬਲਗਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਦ੍ਰਿਗਪੋਛਿਕਰਿਦੇਖਨਲਗ੍ਯੋਬਨਾਇ॥
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਪੂੰਝ ਕੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ,
By the time the Raja got up and cleared his vision,
ਤਬਲਗਿਰਾਨੀਮਾਨਿਰਤਿਨਟੂਆਦਿਯਾਉਠਾਇ॥੨੧॥
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਰਤੀਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਟ ਨੂੰ ਉਠਾ ਕੇ (ਭਜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ) ॥੨੧॥
The Rani, after enjoying heart-fully made the acrobat to run away.(21)(1)

ਫਿਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਹਸ ਕੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ
Ridiculing, the Raja said to the Minster like this.
ਚਰਿਤਚਤੁਰਚਤੁਰਾਨਕੇਮੋਸੌਕਹੌਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ॥੧॥
ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਤੁਰ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਦਸੋ ॥੧॥
Narrate to me more of the Chritars of the women.(1)

(ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ-) ਇਕ ਬਨੀਏ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦਸੀਂਦੀ ਸੀ
ਅਧਿਕਦਰਬੁਜਿਹਧਾਮਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਿਯ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
Once a Shah, who had lot of wealth, had a wife.
ਤਿਨਿਕਪੁਰਖਸੌਹੇਤੁਲਗਾਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾਲ ਲਿਆ।
ਭੋਗਕਾਜਗਹਿਗ੍ਰੇਹਮੰਗਾਯੋ॥੨॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗ ਲਈ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਮੰਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
She fell in love with a man and called him to her house to make love.(2)

ਮਾਨਮੰਜਰੀਸਾਹੁਕੀਬਨਿਤਾਸੁੰਦਰਦੇਹ॥
ਉਸ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਾਨ ਮੰਜਰੀ ਸੀ।
The name of the wife of that Shah was Maan Manjri,
ਬਿਦ੍ਰਯਾਨਿਧਿਇਕਬਾਲਸੌਅਧਿਕਬਢਾਯੋਨੇਹ॥੩॥
(ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਬਿਦਿਆਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਧਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
And she had fallen in love with a man called Bidya Nidhi.(3)

ਤਬਤਾਸੌਤ੍ਰਿਯਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਤਦ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ,
ਆਜੁਭਜਹੁਮੁਹਿਆਨਿਪ੍ਯਾਰੇ॥
ਅਜ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਆ ਕੇ ਸੰਯੋਗ ਕਰੋ।
The Woman requested him to come that day to make love.
ਤਿਨਵਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਸੌਭੋਗਨਕਰਿਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਔਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਗ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ
ਰਾਮਨਾਮਲੈਉਰਮੈਧਰਿਯੋ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
He indulged in sex with the woman but, then, recollected the Godly Name.(4)

ਰਾਮਨਾਮਲੈਉਠਿਚਲਾਜਾਤਨਿਹਾਰਾਨਾਰਿ॥
ਉਹ (ਆਦਮੀ) ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਠ ਚਲਿਆ। (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਜਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ।
After remembering the Godly Name, he tried to sneak out,
ਚੋਰਚੋਰਕਹਿਕੈਉਠੀਅਤਿਚਿਤਕੋਪਬਿਚਾਰ॥੫॥
(ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੀ ॥੫॥
She flew into rage and shouted, ‘thief, thief.’(5)
ਸੁਨਤਚੋਰਕੋਬਚਸ੍ਰਵਨਲੋਕਪਹੁੰਚੈਆਇ॥
'ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ' ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਉਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਏ।
Listening the call, ‘thief, thief,’ people barged in.
ਬੰਦਸਾਲਭੀਤਰਤਿਸੈਤਦਹੀਦਿਯਾਪਠਾਇ॥੬॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੬॥
He was caught and put in the prison.(6)
ਤਦਲੌਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੁਟਵਾਰਕੇਭਈਪੁਕਾਰੂਜਾਇ॥
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕੋਤਵਾਲ ਕੋਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ
That is how a woman by shouting got (the man) beaten,
ਧਨਬਲਤੇਤਿਹਸਾਧਕਹਜਮਪੁਰਿਦਯੋਪਠਾਇ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਸਾਧ ਨੂੰ ਯਮਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭਿਜਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੭॥
And on the strength of wealth got that innocent man punished.(7)

ਤਾਤੇਤੁਮਕਹਅਧਿਕਰਿਝਾਊ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਮਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Listen, my Raja, I relate to you one tale, which will provide tremendous relief
ਦੇਸਪੰਜਾਬਏਕਬਰਨਾਰੀ॥
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਸੀ,
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਲਈਜਾਤੇਉਜਿਯਾਰੀ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਲਈ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
In the country of Punjab, there lived a woman from whom the Moon had acquired its brilliance.(1)
ਰਸਮੰਜਰੀਨਾਮਤਿਹਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੋ॥
ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਰਸ ਮੰਜਰੀ ਸੀ।
In the country of Punjab, there lived a woman from whom the Moon had acquired its brilliance.(1)
ਨਿਰਖਿਪ੍ਰਭਾਲਾਗਤਸੁਖਜਿਯਕੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Ras Manjri was her name and on seeing her one’s mind attained bliss.
ਤਾਕੋਨਾਥਬਿਦੇਸਸਿਧਾਰੋ॥
(ਇਕ ਵਾਰ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਗਿਆ
