ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਨੇ ਸੋਚ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਖਿਆ ॥੯॥
(And on the birth of the child) she named him Sher Singh.(9)

ਕਿਤਕਦਿਨਨਰਾਜਾਮਰਿਗਯੋ॥
ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਦ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ
ਰਾਵਸੁਸੇਰਸਿੰਘਤਹਭਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
After some times the Raja breathed his last.
ਰਾਵਰਾਵਸਭਲੋਗਬਖਾਨੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੇ।
ਤਾਕੋਭੇਦਨਕੋਊਜਾਨੈ॥੧੦॥
(ਪਰ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੦॥
Though vile gestures, she declared that inferior character as the Raja and none new the secret.(10)

ਕਰਮਰੇਖਕੀਗਤਿਹੁਤੇਭਏਰੰਕਤੇਰਾਇ॥
ਕਰਮ ਰੇਖ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਭਾਗ) ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੰਗਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
This is how destiny prevailed, a destitute bacame Raja, she fulfilled her designs,
ਰਾਵਤਤੇਰਾਜਾਕਰੇਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਬਨਾਇ॥੧੧॥
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਮੂਲੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੧॥
And no one realised her deceptive Chritar.(11)(1)

ਕਥਾਸੁਨਾਊਬਨਿਕਕੀਸੁਨਨ੍ਰਿਪਬਰਤੁਹਿਸੰਗ॥
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਰਾਜਨ! ਸੁਣੋ, ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਬਨੀਏ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Now, listen my Raja, I narrate to you the story of a moneylender,
ਇਕਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਤਾਕੀਬਨਬਿਖੈਬੁਰਿਪਰਖੁਦ੍ਰਯੋਬਿਹੰਗ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਗੁਦਾ ਉਤੇ ਪੰਛੀ (ਦਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ) ਖੋਦਿਆ (ਉਕਰਿਆ) ॥੧॥
How a lady in the woods tattooed a bird on his rectum.(1)

ਜਬਹੀਬਨਿਕਬਨਿਜਤੇਆਵੈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਬਨੀਆ ਵਣਜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਤਦਾ
ਬੀਸਚੋਰਅਬਹਨੇਸੁਨਾਵੈ॥
ਤਾਂ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਾਰ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਵੀਹ ਚੋਰ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਨ।
Whenever, the moneylender came back (from business), he boasted,
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਆਨਿਇਮਿਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਫਿਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ
‘1 have killed twenty thieves’.
ਤੀਸਚੋਰਮੈਆਜੁਸੰਘਾਰੇ॥੨॥
ਕਿ ਅਜ ਮੈਂ ਤੀਹ ਚੋਰ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
Some times he would come and say, ‘I have killed thirty thieves.’(2)
ਐਸੀਭਾਤਿਨਿਤਵਹੁਕਹੈ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ
ਸੁਨਿਤ੍ਰਿਯਬੈਨਮੋਨਹ੍ਵੈਰਹੈ॥
ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਚੁਪ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
Every time he bragged as such, wife would just keep quiet.
ਤਾਕੇਮੁਖਪਰਕਛੂਨਭਾਖੈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ
ਏਸਭਬਾਤਚਿਤਮੈਰਾਖੈ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਗੱਲ (ਉਹ) ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਖਦੀ ॥੩॥
She would not contradict him at his face, and restrained her reaction.(3)
ਨਿਰਤਮਤੀਇਹਬਿਧਿਤਬਕਿਯੋ॥
ਤਦ ਨਿਰਤ ਮਤੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ
ਬਾਜਸਾਲਤੇਹੈਇਕਲਿਯੋ॥
ਕਿ ਘੋੜਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਘੋੜਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ।
Nirat Mati (that lady) devised a scheme and sent for a horse from the stable.
ਬਾਧਿਪਾਗਸਿਰਖੜਗਨਚਾਯੋ॥
ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਗੜੀ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ) ਤਲਵਾਰ ਚੁਕ ਲਈ
ਸਕਲਪੁਰਖਕੋਭੇਸਬਨਾਯੋ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਮਰਦਾਵਾਂ ਭੇਸ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
With sword in her hand and a turban on her head, she disguised herself as a man.(4)
ਦਹਿਨੇਹਾਥਸੈਹਥੀਸੋਹੈ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸੱਜੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਸੈਹਥੀ ਸੋਭਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਾਕੇਤੀਰਸਿਪਾਹੀਕੋਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਕੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ।
With a sword embellishing in her right hand, she would appear to be a soldier,
ਸਭਹੀਸਾਜਪੁਰਖਕੇਬਨੀ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰੀ ਮਰਦਾਵੀਂ ਸਜ-ਧਜ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ,
ਜਾਨੁਕਮਹਾਰਾਜਪਤਿਅਨੀ॥੫॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹਾਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੫॥
Dressing herself as a man, she looked like chief of the army.(5)

ਸਿਪਰਸਰੋਹੀਸੈਹਥੀਧੁਜਾਰਹੀਫਹਰਾਇ॥
ਢਾਲ, ਤਲਵਾਰ, ਬਰਛੀ ਅਤੇ ਝੂਲਦੇ ਝੰਡੇ ਨਾਲ
Bedecked with a sword, a shield, a spear, and a flag, instead of a fernale.
ਮਹਾਬੀਰਸੀਜਾਨਿਯੈਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਨਸਮਝੀਜਾਇ॥੬॥
ਉਹ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਜਿਹੀ ਲਗਦੀ ਸੀ, ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੬॥
She reflected herself to be a great warrior.(6)
ਬਨਿਜਹੇਤਬਨਿਯਾਚਲਿਯੋਅਤਿਹਰਖਤਸਭਅੰਗ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਨੀਆ ਚਲਿਆ
The moneylender was satisfied in all respects,
ਗਾਵਤਗਾਵਤਗੀਤਸੁਭਬਨਮੈਧਸਿਯੋਨਿਸੰਗ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਸੰਗ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ॥੭॥
And had proceeded jovially towards the woods, singing all the way.(7)

ਬਨਿਕਜਾਤਏਕਲੌਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਇਕਲੇ ਬਾਨੀਏ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ
ਛਲੋਯਾਹਿਯੌਬਾਲਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛਲਣ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
Seeing him going all alone, she made up her mind to beguile him
ਮਾਰਿਮਾਰਿਕਰਿਸਾਮੁਹਿਧਾਈ॥
ਮਾਰੋ ਮਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ
ਕਾਢਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਪਹੂੰਚੀਆਈ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕਢ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ) ਡਟ ਗਈ ॥੮॥
Performing fighting feats she came and unleashed the sword.(8)

ਕਹਾਜਾਤਰੇਮੂੜਮਤਿਜੁਧਕਰਹੁਡਰਡਾਰਿ॥
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਕਿਥੇ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ) ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰ।
‘Where are you, the fool, going? Come and fight with me,
ਮਾਰਤਹੋਨਹਿਆਜੁਤੁਹਿਪਗਿਯਾਬਸਤ੍ਰਉਤਾਰਿ॥੯॥
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਗੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਤਾਰ (ਕੇ ਦੇ ਦੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਜ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ ॥੯॥
‘Otherwise, taking your turban and clothes away, I will kill you.’(9)

ਬਨਿਕਬਚਨਸੁਨਿਬਸਤ੍ਰਉਤਾਰੇ॥
ਬਨੀਏ ਨੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ
ਘਾਸਦਾਤਗਹਿਰਾਮਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੰਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਘਾਹ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਲਗਾ।
Hearing this he took his clothes off, and started to nimble the grass (and said),
ਸੁਨਤਸਕਰਮੈਦਾਸਤਿਹਾਰੋ॥
ਹੇ ਚੋਰ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ,
ਜਾਨਿਆਪਨੋਆਜੁਉਬਾਰੋ॥੧੦॥
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਾਸ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਅਜ ਛਡ ਦਿਓ ॥੧੦॥
‘Listen, the swindler, I am your servant, today please pardon and Spare my life.(10)
