ਭਯੋਪ੍ਰਾਤਸਭਹੀਜਨਜਾਗੇ॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਗੇ
ਅਪਨੇਅਪਨੇਕਾਰਜਲਾਗੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਲਗ ਗਏ।
As the Sun rose, people awoke and went to their respective occupations.
ਰਾਇਭਵਨਤੇਬਾਹਰਆਯੋ॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਮਹੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਆਇਆ
ਸਭਾਬੈਠਦੀਵਾਨਲਗਾਯੋ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਦੀਵਾਨ ਲਗਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
The Raja came out of his palace and seated on his throne.(1)

ਪ੍ਰਾਤਭਏਤਵਨੈਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਹਿਤਤਜਿਰਿਸਉਪਜਾਇ॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਪਾਲ ਲਿਆ
Next day, early in the morning that lady got up,
ਪਨੀਪਾਮਰੀਜੋਹੁਤੇਸਭਹਿਨਦਏਦਿਖਾਇ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਜੁਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਮਰੀ ਸੀ, ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ॥੨॥
And displayed the shoes and the robe publicly.(2)

ਰਾਇਸਭਾਮਹਿਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
(ਇਧਰ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੋਲ ਕਹੇ
ਪਨੀਪਾਮਰੀਹਰੇਹਮਾਰੇ॥
ਕਿ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ) ਸਾਡੀ ਜੁਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਮਰੀ ਚੁਰਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
The Raja declared in the court that somebody had stolen his shoes and robe.
ਤਾਹਿਸਿਖ੍ਯਜੋਹਮੈਬਤਾਵੈ॥
ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਸੇਗਾ,
ਤਾਤੇਕਾਲਨਿਕਟਨਹਿਆਵੈ॥੩॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਕਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ ॥੩॥
‘The Sikh, who will find them out for me, will be saved from the clutches of Death.’(3)

ਬਚਨਸੁਨਤਗੁਰਬਕ੍ਰਤਤੇਸਿਖ੍ਯਨਸਕੇਦੁਰਾਇ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੋਂ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ (ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ) ਲੁਕਾ ਨਾ ਸਕੇ
Listening to their Guru, the Sikh could not hide (the secret),
ਪਨੀਪਾਮਰੀਕੇਸਹਿਤਸੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਦਈਬਤਾਇ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਜੁਤੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਮਰੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਦਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੪॥
And they told about the woman, the shoe and the robe.(4)

ਤਬੈਰਾਇਯੌਬਚਨਉਚਾਰੇ॥
ਤਦ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ
ਗਹਿਲ੍ਯਾਵਹੁਤਿਹਤੀਰਹਮਾਰੇ॥
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਓ।
The Raja ordered thus, ‘Go and get her and also bring my shoes and robe.
ਪਨੀਪਾਮਰੀਸੰਗਲੈਐਯਹੁ॥
ਜੁਤੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਮਰੀ ਵੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਆਉਣਾ
ਮੋਰਿਕਹੇਬਿਨੁਤ੍ਰਾਸਨਦੈਯਹੁ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਹੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ ॥੫॥
‘Bring her straight to me without reprimanding her.’(5)

ਸੁਨਤਰਾਇਕੇਬਚਨਕੋਲੋਗਪਰੇਅਰਰਾਇ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਲਲਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਪੈ ਗਏ
Lmmediately, harkening to the Raja, the people hastened to her,
ਪਨੀਪਾਮਰੀਤ੍ਰਿਯਸਹਿਤਲ੍ਯਾਵਤਭਏਬਨਾਇ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਜੁਤੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਮਰੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਆਏ ॥੬॥
Brought the woman along with the shoes and the robe.(6)

ਕਹੁਸੁੰਦਰਿਕਿਹਕਾਜਬਸਤ੍ਰਤੈਹਰੇਹਮਾਰੇ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! ਦਸ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਲਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਚੁਰਾਏ ਹਨ।
(Raja asked,) ‘Tell me pretty lady, why did you steal my garments?
ਦੇਖਭਟਨਕੀਭੀਰਿਤ੍ਰਾਸਉਪਜ੍ਯੋਨਹਿਥਾਰੇ॥
ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਤੇਰੇ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਡਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ।
‘Were you not afraid of this group of brave-men (watchmen)?
ਜੋਚੋਰੀਜਨਕਰੈਕਹੌਤਾਕੌਕ੍ਯਾਕਰਿਯੈ॥
ਜੋ ਆਦਮੀ ਚੋਰੀ ਕਰੇ, ਦਸੋ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ।
‘You tell me, the one who commits theft, what should be one’s punishments.
ਹੋਨਾਰਿਜਾਨਿਕੈਟਰੌਨਾਤਰਜਿਯਤੇਤੁਹਿਮਰਿਯੈ॥੭॥
(ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਛਡਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਸੀ ॥੭॥
‘Any way, in consideration of your being a lady, I let you go free, otherwise I would have executed you.’(7)

ਪਰਪਿਯਰੀਮੁਖਪਰਗਈਨੈਨਰਹੀਨਿਹੁਰਾਇ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਪੀਲਾ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੀਵੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ।
Her face became pale, and her eyes remained wide open.
ਧਰਕਧਰਕਛਤਿਯਾਕਰੈਬਚਨਨਭਾਖ੍ਯੋਜਾਇ॥੮॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਧੜਕਣ ਲਗੀ ਅਤੇ (ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ॥੮॥
With extreme heart-palpitation, she was dumbfounded.(8)
ਅੜਿਲ॥

ਹਮਪੂਛਹਿਗੇਯਾਹਿਨਤੁਮਕਛੁਭਾਖਿਯੋ॥
ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਾਂਗੇ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿਣਾ।
(Raja) ‘I am asking you, and you are keeping quiet.
ਯਾਹੀਕੈਘਰਮਾਹਿਭਲੀਬਿਧਿਰਾਖਿਯੋ॥
(ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਇਸੇ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਖੋ।
‘Alright, I will take you to my house, and keeping you comfortably there,
ਨਿਰਨੌਕਰਿਹੈਏਕਇਕਾਤਬੁਲਾਇਕੈ॥
ਇਕ (ਦਿਨ) ਇਕਾਂਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਨਾ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ
‘I will talk to you in seclusion,
ਹੋਤਬਦੈਹੈਇਹਜਾਨਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਸੁਖੁਪਾਇਕੈ॥੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਤਦ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਜਾਣ ਦਿਆਂਗੇ ॥੯॥
‘After that you will be let free.’(9)

ਪ੍ਰਾਤਭਯੋਤ੍ਰਿਯਬਹੁਰਿਬੁਲਾਈ॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ (ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ
ਸਕਲਕਥਾਕਹਿਤਾਹਿਸੁਨਾਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ।
Next morning he called the lady, and talked over whole situation.
ਤੁਮਕੁਪਿਹਮਪਰਿਚਰਿਤਬਨਾਯੋ॥
ਤੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਸੀ
ਹਮਹੂੰਤੁਮਕਹਚਰਿਤਦਿਖਾਯੋ॥੧੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਸੀ ॥੧੦॥
‘Getting angry on me you tried to caste a net on me but on the contrary I put you in a dilemma.’(10)
ਤਾਕੋਭ੍ਰਾਤਬੰਦਿਤੇਛੋਰਿਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਤਿਹਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿਨਿਹੋਰਿਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ
‘You were let out on the pretension of my brother,’ the woman presented distinctive reasoning.
ਬਹੁਰਿਐਸਜਿਯਕਬਹੂੰਨਧਰਿਯਹੁ॥
ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ (ਵਿਚਾਰ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਵਾਂਗੀ,
