ਭਈਨਾਹਿਨਹਿਹੈਨਹ੍ਵੈਹੈਤ੍ਰਿਵੈਸੀ॥
ਅਜਿਹੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
Neither there had been, nor there would be, a damsel like that.
ਮਨੋਜਛਨੀਨਾਗਨੀਕਿੰਨ੍ਰਨੈਸੀ॥੫॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਯਕਸ਼ਣੀ, ਨਾਗਨੀ ਜਾਂ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਰਨੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੫॥
She was, as if an epitome of Jachhni, Naagni or Fairy (goddesses).(5)
ਤਿਨਕਦੇਸਕੇਰਾਵਸੌਨੇਹਠਾਨ੍ਰਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਉਸ ਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਮਹਾਚਤੁਰਤਿਹਚਿਤਕੇਬੀਚਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਚਤੁਰ ਸਮਝਿਆ।
The Raja land began to love her and the Raja thought of her to be very wise
ਅਧਿਕਰੂਪਆਨੂਪਤਾਕੋਬਿਰਾਜੈ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ ਸੀ,
ਲਖੇਜਾਹਿਕੰਦ੍ਰਪਕੋਦ੍ਰਪਭਾਜੈ॥੬॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ ਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵੀ ਚੂਰ ਚੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
She was extremely delightful. Even, the Cupid’s pride had been shattered.(6)

ਅਧਿਕਪ੍ਰੀਤਤਾਸੌਕਰੀਚਿਤਮੈਚਤੁਰਪਛਾਨ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਤੁਰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੀਤੀ।
The wise lady extremely adored the Raja and disregarded all the norms of morality.
ਛਾਡਿਦਈਲਜਾਸਭੈਬਧੀਬਿਰਹਕੇਬਾਨ॥੭॥
ਵਿਰਹ ਦੇ ਬਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਹੱਯਾ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੭॥
She felt tormented with the arrows coming out of the bow of his love.(7)

ਲਖਿਰੂਪਲਲਾਜੂਕੋਰੀਝਰਹੀ॥
(ਆਪਣੇ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਜਿਹਜੋਤਪ੍ਰਭਾਨਹਿਜਾਤਕਹੀ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
She was so much delighted with the sight of her loved one that it could not be narrated.
ਨਿਸਏਕਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਤਿਹਬੋਲਲਿਯੋ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ
ਮਨਭਾਵਤਭੂਪਸੌਭੋਗਕਿਯੋ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਭਾਉਂਦੀ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੮॥
One night she invited the Raja and, desirously, made love with him.(8)
ਸਿਗਰੀਨਿਸਭੂਪਸੌਭੋਗਕਰਿਯੋ॥
ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਰਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
While she was keeping herself absorbed in sensual acts, the woman’s
ਇਹਬੀਚਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਪਤਿਆਨਪਰਿਯੋ॥
ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
Husband seemed to be coming.
ਤਿਹਆਵਤਜਾਨਿਡਰੀਹਿਯਮੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਡਰ ਗਈ।
Seeing him proceeding (towards her) she was frightened and she
ਇਹਭਾਤਿਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਠਟਿਯੋਜਿਯਮੈ॥੯॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਚਿਆ ॥੯॥
Planned to dupe him this way.(9)

ਤਕਿਯਾਕਰਿਰਾਖ੍ਯੋਨ੍ਰਿਪਹਿਆਪਣੀਸੇਜਬਣਾਇ॥
ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਜ ਉਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਕੀਆ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਰਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
She covered and made the Raja to lie in the bed as a pillow and led
ਜਾਇਪਿਯਹਿਆਗੇਲਿਯੋਪਰਮਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਉਪਜਾਇ॥੧੦॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਜਤਾ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਅਗੋਂ ਜਾ ਮਿਲੀ ॥੧੦॥
Her husband there.(10)
ਭੂਪਲਖ੍ਯੋਚਿਤਮੈਫਸ੍ਯੋਆਨਿਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕੇਹੇਤ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆ ਫਸਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
The Raja thought in his mind that he had been entangled in the love,
ਅਧਿਕਚਿਤਭੀਤਰਡਰਿਯੋਸ੍ਵਾਸਨਊਚੋਲੇਤ॥੧੧॥
ਉਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚਾ ਸਾਹ ਤਕ ਨਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
But he was petrified and could not breath aloud even.(11)
ਪਤਿਸੌਅਤਿਰਤਿਮਾਨਿਕੈਰਹੀਗਰੇਲਪਟਾਇ॥
(ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ) ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਪਟੀ ਰਹੀ।
Clinging to her husband, she kept on making love.
ਕਿਯੋਸਿਰਾਨੋਭੂਪਕੋਸੋਇਰਹੇਸੁਖਪਾਇ॥੧੨॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ੍ਹਾਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮੌਜ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਤੇ ਰਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
Using Raja as their pillow they went into peaceful slumber.(12)
ਭੋਰਭਏਉਠਿਪਿਯਗਯੋਨ੍ਰਿਪਸੋਭੋਗਕਮਾਇ॥
ਸਵੇਰੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਾਰ ਪਤੀ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ। (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਕਾਮਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕੀਤੀ
In the morning when the husband had gone she enabled the Raja out
ਕਾਢਿਸਿਰਾਨਾਤੇਤੁਰਤਸਦਨਦਿਯੋਪਹੁਚਾਇ॥੧੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰ੍ਹਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਤ ਘਰ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੩॥
Of the pillow, and after carnal affair let him go home.(13)
ਜੇਜੇਸ੍ਯਾਨੇਹ੍ਵੈਜਗਤਮੈਤ੍ਰਿਯਸੋਕਰਤਪ੍ਯਾਰ॥
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਾਹਿਮਹਾਜੜਸਮੁਝਿਯੈਚਿਤਭੀਤਰਨਿਰਧਾਰ॥੧੪॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਹਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
The wise ones who love women, they should be considered absurd.(14)(1)

ਭੂਪਬੰਦਗ੍ਰਿਹਨਿਜੁਸੁਤਹਿਗਹਿਕਰਿਦਿਯੋਪਠਾਇ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The Monarch caught hold of his son and sent him to the prison, And
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਸਮੈਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਸਹਿਤਬਹੁਰੋਲਿਯੋਬੁਲਾਇ॥੧॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਫਿਰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
In the morning, through the Minister, called him back.(1)
ਰੀਝਰਾਇਐਸੇਕਹ੍ਯੋਬਚਨਮੰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਸੰਗ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਪਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ
Then he asked the Minster to narrate the Chritars
ਪੁਰਖਤ੍ਰਿਯਨਚਤੁਰਨਚਰਿਤਮੋਸੋਕਰਹੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ॥੨॥
ਕਿ ਚਤੁਰ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਓ ॥੨॥
Of the wise men and the women -2
ਤੀਰਸਤੁਦ੍ਰਵਕੇਹੁਤੋਪੁਰਅਨੰਦਇਕਗਾਉ॥
ਸਤਲੁਜ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਆਨੰਦੁਪਰ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਸੀ
On the banks of the river Sutlaj, there was a village by the name of Anadpur.
ਨੇਤ੍ਰਤੁੰਗਕੇਢਿਗਬਸਤਕਾਹਲੂਰਕੇਠਾਉ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਦੇਵੀ ਪਰਬਤ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਕਹਿਲੂਰ ਖੇਤਰ (ਰਿਆਸਤ) ਵਿਚ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
It was situated near Naina Devi which situated was in the state of Kahloor.(3)
ਤਹਾਸਿਖਸਾਖਾਬਹੁਤਆਵਤਮੋਦਬਢਾਇ॥
ਉਥੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ਿਰਕੇ ('ਸਾਖਾ') ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਚਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ
There used to come several Sikhs with great pleasure,
ਮਨਬਾਛਤਮੁਖਿਮਾਗਬਰਜਾਤਗ੍ਰਿਹਨਸੁਖਪਾਇ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਇਛਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਮੰਗੇ ਵਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੪॥
And after getting their ambitions fulfilled, they used to go back to their homes.(4)
ਏਕਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਧਨਵੰਤਕੀਤੌਨਨਗਰਮੈਆਨਿ॥
ਇਕ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਉਸ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ
The wife of a rich-man came to that town.
ਹੇਰਿਰਾਇਪੀੜਤਭਈਬਿਧੀਬਿਰਹਕੇਬਾਨ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਥੋਂ ਦੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੇ ਬਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੫॥
She fell for the Raja and was pierced with his love arrows.(5)
ਮਗਨਦਾਸਤਾਕੋਹੁਤੋਸੋਤਿਨਲਿਯੋਬੁਲਾਇ॥
ਮਗਨ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ (ਵਿਅਕਤੀ) ਉਸ (ਰਾਜੇ) ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ।
She had a servant, Magan Das whom she called,
ਕਛੁਕਦਰਬਤਾਕੋਦਿਯੋਐਸੇਕਹਿਯੋਬਨਾਇ॥੬॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
And gave him some money and made him to understand like this.( 6)
ਨਗਰਰਾਇਤੁਮਰੋਬਸਤਤਾਹਿਮਿਲਾਵਹੁਮੋਹਿ॥
ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ।
‘You get me to meet the Raja,
ਤਾਹਿਮਿਲੇਦੈਹੋਤੁਝੈਅਮਿਤਦਰਬਲੈਤੋਹਿ॥੭॥
ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ ॥੭॥
‘And after encountering him 1 will give you lot of wealth.’(7)
ਮਗਨਲੋਭਧਨਕੇਲਗੇਆਨਿਰਾਵਕੇਪਾਸ॥
ਮਗਨ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਲਗ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
Becoming greedy for money, Magan came to the Raja,
ਪਰਿਪਾਇਨਕਰਜੋਰਿਕਰਿਇਹਬਿਧਿਕਿਯਅਰਦਾਸਿ॥੮॥
ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੮॥
Fell on his feet and requested thus,(8)
ਸਿਖ੍ਯੋਚਹਤਜੋਮੰਤ੍ਰਤੁਮਸੋਆਯੋਮੁਰਹਾਥ॥
ਆਪ ਜੋ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
‘The incantation you wanted to learn, has come in my possession.
