ਪਰ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ॥੨੭॥
Passionate, he should not get entrapped in the love displayed by a young woman.(27)(1)

ਕਥਾਸਤ੍ਰਵੀਰਾਮਕਬਿਉਚਰੀਹਿਤਚਿਤਲਾਇ॥
ਕਵੀ ਰਾਮ ਨੇ ਸਤਾਰ੍ਹਵੀਂ ਕਥਾ ਬੜੀ ਰੁਚੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤੀ
With affection the Poet Ram envisaged the Chritar seventeen and,
ਬਹੁਰਿਕਥਾਬੰਧਨਨਿਮਿਤਮਨਮੈਕਹਿਯੋਉਪਾਇ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਕਥਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਪਾ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧॥
Then, determined to complete the narrative.(1)
ਧਾਮਨਿਕਟਤਾਕੇਹੁਤੀਹੋੜਬਦੀਜਿਹਨਾਰਿ॥
(ਉਪਰੋਕਤ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਾਲੀ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰਤ ('ਹੋੜ') ਲਗਾਈ ਸੀ।
Other woman, with whom she had bet, lived near her house.
ਤਿਨਹੂੰਕਰਿਯੋਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਇਕਸੋਤੁਮਸੁਨਹੁਸੁਧਾਰਿ॥੨॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਇਕ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਤਾ; ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੁਣੋ ॥੨॥

ਸ੍ਰੀਛਲਛਿਦ੍ਰਕੁਅਰਿਤਿਹਨਾਮਾ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਛਲਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸੀ।
Her name was Chhalchhider (the deceptive) Kumari
ਦੂਜੇਰਹਤਮੁਗਲਕੀਬਾਮਾ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ।
And she lived with the woman of another Mughal.
ਤਿਨਜੁਕਿਯਾਸੁਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਸੁਨਾਊ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਹ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
What deceit she performed,
ਤਾਤੇਤੁਮਰੌਹ੍ਰਿਦੈਰਿਝਾਊ॥੩॥
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
Now I recount that to you to amuse You.(3)

ਏਕਦਿਵਸਤਿਨਮਿਹਦੀਲਈਮੰਗਾਇਕੈ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਹਿੰਦੀ ਮੰਗਵਾ ਲਈ
One day she collected some henna-powder and, showing it off to
ਲੀਪਿਆਪਨੇਹਾਥਪਤਿਹਿਦਿਖਰਾਇਕੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਉਤੇ ਲਿੰਬ ਕੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਖਾਈ।
Husband, put it on to tinge her hands with sensual henna-paste.
ਯਾਰਿਦੂਸਰੇਸੰਗਯੋਕਹਿਯੋਸੁਧਾਰਿਕੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਮਿਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤਾ
She had, politely, told her other (boy) friend that she would come to
ਹੋਐਹੋਤੁਮਰੇਤੀਰਤਿਹਾਰੇਪਯਾਰਿਕੈ॥੪॥
ਕਿ ਹੇ ਮਿਤਰ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਵਾਂਗੀ ॥੪॥
Him for making love, as well.( 4)

ਪਿਯਪ੍ਯਾਰੋਆਯੋਜਬਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ,
Realizing that her (boy) friend had come, she asked her (husband)
ਯਾਰਦੂਸਰੇਸੰਗਬਖਾਨ੍ਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਦੂਜੇ ਯਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਿਹਾ
Friend, ‘I wanted to go to urinate.
ਮੈਅਬਹੀਲਘੁਕੇਹਿਤਜੈਹੋ॥
ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਪਿਸ਼ਾਬ (ਲਘੂ ਸ਼ੰਕਾ) ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ
‘When I come back you help me to tie my waist-band (because my
ਆਨਿਨਾਰਤਵਪਾਸਬਧੈਹੋ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਨਾੜਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਾਵਾਂਗੀ ॥੫॥
Hands are smeared with henna-paste).(5)

ਨਾਰਖੁਲਾਯੋਜਾਰਤੇਗਈਜਾਰਕੇਪਾਸਿ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਨਾੜਾ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਵਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਰ ਪਾਸ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ।
She got the waistband untied by her first friend and went to the other one.
ਜਾਇਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਕੇਸੰਗਰਮੀਰੰਚਕਕਿਯਾਨਤ੍ਰਾਸ॥੬॥
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ (ਦੂਜੇ ਯਾਰ) ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਵੀ ਡਰ ਮੰਨੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਮਣ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੬॥
And without fear indulged in love making with that regal paramour.(6)
ਅੜਿਲ॥

ਮੁਹਰਪਰਾਪਤਿਹੋਇਟਕਾਕੋਲੇਵਈ॥
(ਜੇ) ਮੋਹਰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭਲਾ ਟਕਾ ਕੌਣ ਲਏਗਾ।
When the benevolence of gold coins is available, who would accept the ones of base metal?
ਬਿਨੁਦੀਨੇਧਨਸਰੈਤਕੋਧਨਦੇਵਈ॥
(ਜੇ) ਬਿਨਾ ਧਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਕੰਮ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੌਣ ਧਨ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
If one abandons the opulence, why would one go after wealth?
ਧਨੀਤ੍ਯਾਗਿਨਿਰਧਨਕੇਕੋਗ੍ਰਿਹਜਾਵਈ॥
ਧਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਕੌਣ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
Who would like to go to poor man’s house after leaving the richman?
ਹੋਰਾਵਤ੍ਯਾਗਿਕਰਿਰੰਕਕਵਨਚਿਤਲ੍ਯਾਵਈ॥੭॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਨਾਲ ਕੌਣ ਚਿਤ ਲਾਵੇਗਾ ॥੭॥
Who would remember the poor, forsaking the Raja aside?(7)

ਨੇਹਠਾਨਿਰਤਿਮਾਨਿਕਰਿਰਾਜਾਦਿਯਾਉਠਾਇ॥
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
After making love with great satisfaction, she sent away the prince.
ਲਗੀਮਿਹਦੀਆਕਰਰਹੀਨਾਰਬਧਾਯੋਆਇ॥੮॥
ਹੱਥ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਿੰਦੀ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਆ ਕੇ (ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ) ਨਾੜਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਵਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
She came, with hands still besmeared in henna-paste, and asked the first lover to tie up the waist band.(8)
ਬੈਨਸੁਨਤਮੂਰਖਉਠਿਯੋਭੇਦਨਸਕ੍ਯੋਪਛਾਨਿ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੂਰਖ (ਪਤੀ) ਉਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ।
Listening to her, the foolish lover came forward without understanding the secret.
ਬਾਧ੍ਰਯੋਬੰਦਇਜਾਰਕੌਅਧਿਕਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਮਨਮਾਨਿ॥੯॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਸਲਵਾਰ ('ਇਜਾਰ') ਦਾ ਨਾੜਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ॥੯॥
He, still with love for her in his heart, got up and tied the waist- band.(9)
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਕੈਸਿਯੈਤਨਬਢੈਕਸਟਕੈਸਹੂਹੋਇ॥
ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਤਨੀ ਹੀ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਹੋਏ।
Howsoever you may be in love, and you may be in love-sickness,
ਤਊਤਰੁਨਿਸੌਦੋਸਤੀਭੂਲਿਨਕਰਿਯਹੁਕੋਇ॥੧੦॥
ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਭੁਲ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ॥੧੦॥
You should not fall in love with a young woman.(10)(1)

ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The Raja had sent his son to the jail
ਪ੍ਰਾਤਸਮੈਪੁਨਿਨਿਕਟਿਬੁਲਾਯੋ॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਫਿਰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਕੋਲ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ।
And in the morning he called him back.
ਬਹੁਰੌਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਕਥਾਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ॥
ਫਿਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਥਾ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ
Then the Minister narrated a parable
ਚਿਤ੍ਰਸਿੰਘਕੋਭਰਮੁਨਿਵਾਰਿਯੋ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧॥
And removed Chiter Singh’s apprehension.(1)
