ਚੋਰਚਤੁਰਿਚਿਤਲਯੋਕਹੋਕਸਕੀਜੀਐ॥
(ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! (ਜੇ) ਕੋਈ ਚਤੁਰ ਚੋਰ ਚਿਤ ਚੁਰਾ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Rani asked (the boy), ‘If a sagacious thief steals away some
ਕਾਢਿਕਰਿਜਵਾਅਪਨਲਲਾਕੌਦੀਜੀਐ॥
(ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਕਲੇਜਾ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
One’s heart then what should be done?
ਜੰਤ੍ਰਮੰਤ੍ਰਜੌਕੀਨੇਪੀਅਹਿਰਿਝਾਈਐ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਝਾ ਲਈਏ,
‘Shouldn’t she take out her heart and present it to her lover?
ਹੋਤਦਿਨਘਰੀਕੇਸਖੀਸਹਿਤਬਲਿਜਾਈਐ॥੨੩॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਉਸੇ ਘੜੀ (ਉਸ ਉਤੇ) ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੩॥
‘And the day she had satisfied her lover through incantations, she should release her temporal being.(23)

(ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ) ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਸ ਹੈ। (ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮਾਨੋ ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੋਵੇ।
‘You are ecstatic and, like Cupid, you are endowed with beauty, and are above any praise.
ਮੋਮਨਕੋਮੋਹਤਸਦਾਮਿਤ੍ਰਤਿਹਾਰੇਨੈਨ॥੨੪॥
ਹੇ ਮਿਤਰ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨੈਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੪॥
‘O, my friend your enticing eyes are heart throbbing.(24)

ਬਾਨਬਧੀਬਿਰਹਾਕੇਬਲਾਇਲਿਯੋਰੀਝਿਰਹੀਲਖਿਰੂਪਤਿਹਾਰੋ॥
(ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਯੋਗ ਦੇ ਬਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ (ਤੇਰੀਆਂ) ਬਲਾਵਾਂ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ।
‘I adore your comeliness and I am pierced by the arrows of separation from you,
ਭੋਗਕਰੋਮੁਹਿਸਾਥਭਲੀਬਿਧਿਭੂਪਤਿਕੋਨਹਿਤ੍ਰਾਸਬਿਚਾਰੋ॥
(ਤੂੰ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੋਗ ਵਿਲਾਸ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾ ਰਖ।
‘Renounce the Raja’s fright and make love to me.
ਸੋਨਕਰੈਕਛੁਚਾਰੁਚਿਤੈਬੇਕੋਖਾਇਗਿਰੀਮਨਮੈਨਤਵਾਰੋ॥
ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਿਝਾਉਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਇਸੇ ਲਈ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ-ਪੀੜਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਭਵਾਟਣੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਡਿਗ ਪਈ ਹਾਂ।
‘I am never satiated by Raja and, therefore, he cannot harm you in any way.
ਕੋਟਿਉਪਾਇਰਹੀਕੈਦਯਾਕੀਸੋਕੈਸੇਹੂੰਭੀਜਤਭਯੋਨਐਠ੍ਰਯਾਰੋ॥੨੫॥
ਸੌਂਹ ਰਬ ਦੀ, (ਮੈਂ) ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਉਪਾ ਕਰ ਥਕੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਠੀਲਾ ਮਨ ਭਿਜਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੨੫॥
‘I have tried hard but my craving desire is never fulfilled.’(25)

ਚਿਤਚੇਟਕਸੋਚੁਭਿਗਯੋਚਮਕਿਚਕ੍ਰਿਤਭਯੋਅੰਗ॥
(ਰਾਣੀ ਦਾ) ਚਿਤ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਮ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਮਚਲ ਕੇ ਉਤੇਜਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
The Rani was roused, became extremely passionate and her whole body coveted for love,
ਚੋਰਿਚਤੁਰਚਿਤਲੈਗਯੋਚਪਲਚਖਨਕੇਸੰਗ॥੨੬॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਚਿਤ ਚੋਰ (ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ) ਦੀਆਂ ਚੰਚਲ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੁਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੨੬॥
Because her heart was lost in the sensual looks of the Prince.(26)
ਚੇਰਿਰੂਪਤੁਹਿਬਸਿਭਈਗਹੌਂਕਵਨਕੀਓਟ॥
(ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ, (ਹੁਣ) ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲਵਾਂ।
‘I am over powered with your countenance and there is none else from whom I can seek protection.
ਮਛਰੀਜ੍ਯੋਤਰਫੈਪਰੀਚੁਭੀਚਖਨਕੀਚੋਟ॥੨੭॥
(ਤੁਹਾਡੇ) ਨੈਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਟ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੱਛਲੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਤੜਪ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੨੭॥
‘Without the touch of your beautiful eyes I am writhing like a fish (out of water).’(27)

ਵਾਕੀਕਹੀਨਨ੍ਰਿਪਸੁਤਮਾਨੀ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਹੀ ਹੋਈ (ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ।
ਚਿਤ੍ਰਮਤੀਤਬਭਈਖਿਸਾਨੀ॥
ਤਦ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਮਤੀ (ਰਾਣੀ) ਖਿਝ ਗਈ।
The Prince consented not, and she was ashamed of her act.
ਚਿਤ੍ਰਸਿੰਘਪੈਜਾਇਪੁਕਾਰੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਗੇ ਫ਼ਰਿਆਦ ਕੀਤੀ
ਬਡੋਦੁਸਟਇਹਪੁਤ੍ਰਤੁਹਾਰੋ॥੨੮॥
ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ॥੨੮॥
She went to Chitar Singh and told, ‘Your son is great betrayer.’(28)

ਫਾਰਿਚੀਰਕਰਆਪਨੇਮੁਖਨਖਘਾਇਲਗਾਇ॥
(ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਫਾੜ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਤੇ ਨੌਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਖਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ
She had torn her clothes and scratched her face
ਰਾਜਾਕੋਰੋਖਿਤਕਿਯੌਤਨਕੋਚਿਹਨਦਿਖਾਇ॥੨੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੨੯॥
With her finger-nailsto infuriate the Raja.(29)

ਬਚਨਸੁਨਤਕ੍ਰੁਧਿਤਨ੍ਰਿਪਭਯੋ॥
(ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ) ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
ਮਾਰਨਹੇਤਸੁਤਹਿਲੈਗਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ।
Hearing this the Raja flew into rage and took his son to kill him.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿਨਆਨਿਰਾਵਸਮੁਝਾਯੋ॥
ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਨਕਿਨਹੂੰਪਾਯੋ॥੩੦॥
ਕਿ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੩੦॥
But his ministers made him to perceive that the Chritars were not easily discernable.(30)(1)

ਤਦ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The Raja then put the son in the prison.
ਭੋਰਹੋਤਅਪਨੇਨਿਕਟਿਬਹੁਰੌਲਿਯੋਬੁਲਾਇ॥੧॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
And early next morning he called him over.(1)
ਏਕਪੁਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਗ੍ਵਾਰਕੀਤਾਕੋਕਹੋਬਿਚਾਰ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਉਣੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਇਕ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਇਕ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਦੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਕਥਾ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
(Then his Minister commenced narrating thus:) There lived a girl in a town.
ਏਕਮੋਟਿਯਾਯਾਰਤਿਹਔਰਪਤਰਿਯਾਯਾਰ॥੨॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਮੋਟਾ ਯਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਪਤਲਾ ਯਾਰ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
She had two lovers one was thin and lean, and the other a fat one.(2)
ਸ੍ਰੀਮ੍ਰਿਗਚਛੁਮਤੀਰਹੈਤਾਕੋਰੂਪਅਪਾਰ॥
ਉਹ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਚਛੁ ਮਤੀ ਅਪਾਰ ਸਰੂਪਵਤੀ ਸੀ।
She was very pretty and possessed the eyes like of an antelope.
ਊਚਨੀਚਤਾਸੌਸਦਾਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿਕਰੈਜੁਹਾਰ॥੩॥
ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਚੇ ਨੀਵੇਂ (ਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੀ) ਨਿੱਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਲਾਮ ਸੀ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮੇਲ ਜੋਲ ਸੀ) ॥੩॥
She had full consciousness of understanding the highs and lows of the life.( 3)

ਸਹਰਕਾਲਪੀਮਾਹਿਬਸਤਤੈ॥
ਉਹ ਕਾਲਪੀ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਦੀ ਸੀ
She used to live in the town of Kalpi
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਕੇਭੋਗਕਰੈਵੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ-ਵਿਲਾਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ।
And indulged in all sorts of lovemakings.
ਸ੍ਰੀਮ੍ਰਿਗਨੈਨਮਤੀਤਹਰਾਜੈ॥
ਉਥੇ (ਉਹ) ਮ੍ਰਿਗਨ। ਨਾ ਮਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ,
That, with the eyes of a deer, and with her exquisiteness,
ਨਿਰਖਿਛਪਾਕਰਿਕੀਛਬਿਲਾਜੈ॥੪॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਦੀ ਛਬੀ ਵੀ ਫਿਕੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੪॥
She made the Moon to feel shy.(4)

ਬਿਰਧਿਮੋਟਿਯੋਯਾਰਤਿਹਤਰੁਨਪਤਰਿਯੋਯਾਰ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੋਟਾ ਯਾਰ ਬਿਰਧ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਤਲਾ ਯਾਰ ਜਵਾਨ ਸੀ।
Her fat lover was old but the other, the young one, was slender.
ਰਾਤਦਿਵਸਤਾਸੌਕਰੈਦ੍ਵੈਵੈਮੈਨਬਿਹਾਰ॥੫॥
ਦੋਵੇਂ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮ-ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੫॥
Day in and day out she kept on making love with them.(5)
ਹੋਤਤਰੁਨਕੇਤਰੁਨਿਬਸਿਬਿਰਧਤਰੁਨਿਬਸਿਹੋਇ॥
ਜਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਰਧ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
