ਤਿਆਗਕਰਿਕੈਕਪਟਕਉਚਿਤਲਾਇਕੀਜੈਸੇਵ॥
ਕਪਟ ਦਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਿਤ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
“Whomsoever you like in your mind, accept him as your Guru and forsaking deceit, serve him with the singleness of mind
ਰੀਝਹੈਗੁਰਦੇਵਤਉਤੁਮਪਾਇਹੋਬਰੁਦਾਨ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇਵ ਰੀਝਣਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੋਗੇ।
ਯੌਨਹੋਇਉਧਾਰਪੈਸੁਨਿਲੇਹੁਦਤਸੁਜਾਨ॥੧੧੨॥
ਹੇ ਸੁਜਾਨ ਦੱਤ! ਸੁਣ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਧਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ ॥੧੧੨॥
When the Guru is pleased, he will grant you a boon, otherwise O wise an sagacious Dutt! you will not be able to achieve redemption.”112.
ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮਮੰਤ੍ਰਦਯੋਜਿਨੈਸੋਈਜਾਨਿਕੈਗੁਰਦੇਵ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸਲਾਹ ('ਮੰਤ੍ਰ') ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ
ਜੋਗਕਾਰਣਕੋਚਲਾਜੀਅਜਾਨਿਕੈਅਨਭੇਵ॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਯੋਗ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਚਲ ਪਿਆ।
He, who in the first place gave this mantra, feeling about that Lord in his mind and accepting Him as the Guru, Dutt proceeded for getting instructions in Yoga
ਤਾਤਮਾਤਰਹੇਮਨੈਕਰਿਮਾਨਬੈਨਨਏਕ॥
ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਵਰਜਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਪਰ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਬਚਨ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ।
ਘੋਰਕਾਨਿਨਕੌਚਲਾਧਰਿਜੋਗਿਨ੍ਯਾਸਅਨੇਕ॥੧੧੩॥
ਯੋਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ ('ਨ੍ਯਾਸ') ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਘਣੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਲ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ ॥੧੧੩॥
Though the parents dissuaded him, he did not accept the saying of anyone he assumed the garb of a Yogi and went towards a dense forest.113.
ਘੋਰਕਾਨਨਿਮੈਕਰੀਤਪਸਾਅਨੇਕਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ॥
ਘੋਰ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਪਸਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਨਕੇਕਰੇਇਕਚਿਤਮੰਤ੍ਰਉਚਾਰ॥
ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
In the forest, he performed austerities in many ways and concentrating his mind, he recited various kinds of mantras
ਕਸਟਕੈਜਬਹੀਕੀਆਤਪਘੋਰਬਰਖਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ॥
ਜਦ ਇਕ ਸਾਲ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਸਹਿ ਕੇ ਘੋਰ ਤਪ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਬੁਧਿਕੋਬਰੁਦੇਤਭੇਤਬਆਨਿਬੁਧਿਨਿਧਾਨ॥੧੧੪॥
ਤਦ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦਾ ਵਰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੧੪॥
When he, enduring tribulations for many years, performed great austerities, then the Lord, the treasure of wisdom, gave him the boon of ‘wisdom’.114.
ਬੁਧਿਕੌਬਰੁਜਉਦਯੋਤਿਨਆਨਬੁਧਅਨੰਤ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦਾ ਵਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਹਿਸਾਬੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ)।
ਪਰਮਪੁਰਖਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਕੈਗਏਦਤਦੇਵਮਹੰਤ॥
ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਕਾਲ ਦੇਵ) ਦੱਤ ਦੇਵ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਬਣਾ ਗਏ।
When this boon was bestowed upon him, then infinite wisdom penetrated within him and that great Dutt, reached the abode of that supreme Purusha (Lord)
ਅਕਸਮਾਤ੍ਰਬਢੀਤਬੈਬੁਧਿਜਤ੍ਰਤਤ੍ਰਦਿਸਾਨ॥
ਤਦ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਧ ਗਈ।
ਧਰਮਪ੍ਰਚੁਰਕੀਆਜਹੀਤਹਪਰਮਪਾਪਖਿਸਾਨ॥੧੧੫॥
(ਫਿਰ ਦੱਤ ਨੇ) ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਾਪ (ਉਥੋਂ) ਖਿਸਕ ਗਏ ॥੧੧੫॥
This wisdom suddenly extended on various sides and he propagated Dharma, which destroyed the sins.115.
ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮਅਕਾਲਗੁਰੂਕੀਆਜਿਹਕੋਕਬੈਨਹੀਨਾਸ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਜਤ੍ਰਤਤ੍ਰਦਿਸਾਵਿਸਾਜਿਹਠਉਰਸਰਬਨਿਵਾਸ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਸਭ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ।
In this way, he adopted the eternal unmanifested Brahman as His first Guru, who pervades in all directions He who has spread the four major divisions of creation viz.,
ਅੰਡਜੇਰਜਸੇਤਉਤਭੁਜਕੀਨਜਾਸਪਸਾਰ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਅੰਡਜ, ਜੇਰਜ, ਸੇਤਜ ਅਤੇ ਉਦਭਿਜ ਆਦਿ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾਹਿਜਾਨਗੁਰੂਕੀਯੋਮੁਨਿਸਤਿਦਤਸੁਧਾਰ॥੧੧੬॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਦੱਤ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਥਮ) ਗੁਰੂ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧੧੬॥
Andaja (oviparous) Jeraj (viviparous), Svetaja (generated by heat and moisture) and Utbhija (germinating), the sage Dutt accepted that Lord as his first Guru.116.

ਪਰਮਰੂਪਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਮੁਨਿਮਨਜੋਗਕਰਮਨਿਧਾਨ॥
ਪਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਗ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮੁਨੀ (ਦੱਤ ਦੇਵ) ਨੇ
ਦੂਸਰੇਗੁਰਕਉਕਰਾਮਨਈਮਨੈਮੁਨਿਮਾਨਿ॥
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਦੂਜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
The sage Dutt, supremely immaculate and the ocean of Yoga, then meditated in his mind on the second Guru sand made the mind his guru
ਨਾਥਤਉਹੀਪਛਾਨਜੋਮਨਮਾਨਈਜਿਹਕਾਲ॥
ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਨ ਮੰਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਥ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਧਤਉਮਨਕਾਮਨਾਸੁਧਹੋਤਹੈਸੁਨਿਲਾਲ॥੧੧੭॥
ਹੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਲਾਲ! ਸੁਣ, ਤਦ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੭॥
When the mind becomes stable, that supreme Lord is recognized and the heart’s desires are fulfilled.117.

ਜਬੈਦ੍ਵੈਸੁਕੀਨੇਗੁਰੂਦਤਦੇਵੰ॥
ਜਦ ਦੱਤ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਲਏ,
ਸਦਾਏਕਚਿਤੰਕਰੈਨਿਤਸੇਵੰ॥
ਤਦ ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਿੱਤ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਗਾ।
When Dutt adopted two Guru and he always served them single-mindedly
ਜਟਾਜੂਟਸੀਸੰਸੁਗੰਗਾਤਰੰਗੰ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਜਟਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੂੜਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਅਸਲੋਂ) ਗੰਗਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਰੰਗਾਂ ਹਨ।
ਕਬੈਛ੍ਵੈਸਕਾਅੰਗਕੋਨਅਨੰਗੰ॥੧੧੮॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ ਛੋਹ ਨਾ ਸਕਿਆ ॥੧੧੮॥
The waves of the Ganges and the matted locks were auspiciously seated on his head and the god of love could never touch his body.118.
ਮਹਾਉਜਲੀਅੰਗਬਿਭੂਤਸੋਹੈ॥
ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਜਲੀ ਵਿਭੂਤੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਦੀ ਹੈ
ਲਖੈਮੋਨਮਾਨੀਮਹਾਮਾਨਮੋਹੈ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਮੋਨੀ ਮੁਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
There were white ashes smeared on his body and he was alluring the mind of very honoured persons
ਜਟਾਜੂਟਗੰਗਾਤਰੰਗੰਮਹਾਨੰ॥
ਜਟਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੂੜਾ ਹੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਹਨ।
ਮਹਾਬੁਧਿਉਦਾਰਬਿਦਿਆਨਿਧਾਨੰ॥੧੧੯॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਬੁੱਧੀਮਾਨ, ਉਦਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧੯॥
The sage appeared very great with the waves of the Ganges and matted locks he was the treasure of generous wisdom and learning.119.
ਭਗਉਹੇਲਸੈਬਸਤ੍ਰਲੰਗੋਟਬੰਦੰ॥
ਭਗਵੇਂ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਗੋਟ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
He wore ochre-coloured clothes and also the loin-cloth
ਤਜੇਸਰਬਆਸਾਰਟੈਏਕਛੰਦੰ॥
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ, (ਕੇਵਲ) ਇਕ ਛੰਦ (ਅਰਥਾਤ 'ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ਰ') ਰਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
He had forsaken all the expectations and recited only one mantra
ਮਹਾਮੋਨਮਾਨੀਮਹਾਮੋਨਬਾਧੇ॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਮੋਨੀ ਨੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਚੁਪ ਸਾਧੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਾਜੋਗਕਰਮੰਸਭੈਨ੍ਯਾਸਸਾਧੇ॥੧੨੦॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਯੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧੨੦॥
He was a great silence-observer and practiced of all the practices of that actions of Yoga.120.
ਦਯਾਸਿੰਧੁਸਰਬੰਸੁਭੰਕਰਮਕਰਤਾ॥
ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰੇਸਰਬਗਰਬੰਮਹਾਤੇਜਧਰਤਾ॥
ਸਭ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਤੇਜ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
He was greatly glorious as the ocean of mercy, the doer of good actions and the smasher of the pride of all
ਮਹਾਜੋਗਕੀਸਾਧਨਾਸਰਬਸਾਧੀ॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਸਿੱਧ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਾਮੋਨਮਾਨੀਮਹਾਸਿਧਲਾਧੀ॥੧੨੧॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਮੋਨ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੧॥
He was the practiser of all the practices of great Yoga and was a purusha of silence observation and the discoverer of the great powers.121.
ਉਠੈਪ੍ਰਾਤਿਸੰਧਿਆਕਰੈਨਾਨਜਾਵੈ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰੈਸਾਧਨਾਜੋਗਕੀਜੋਗਭਾਵੈ॥
ਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਯੋਗ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
He used to go for a bath in the mornings and evenings and practiced Yoga
ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲਗਦਰਸੀਮਹਾਪਰਮਤਤੰ॥
(ਉਹ) ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲ ਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਪਰਮ-ਤੱਤ੍ਵ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੈ)।
ਸੁਸੰਨ੍ਰਯਾਸੁਦੇਵੰਮਹਾਸੁਧਮਤੰ॥੧੨੨॥
ਉਹ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਦੇਵ ਮਹਾਨ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਮਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੨॥
He could observe the past, present and future and was divinely-incarnate saint of pure intellect amongst all the Sannyasis.122.
ਪਿਯਾਸਾਛੁਧਾਆਨਕੈਜੋਸੰਤਾਵੈ॥
ਪਿਆਸ ਅਤੇ ਭੁਖ ਜੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਸਤਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
