ਅਰੁਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਉਠਿਪਰਤਚਰਨਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪਿਆ
ਜਾਨੀਨਜਾਇਜਿਹਜਾਤਿਬਰਨ॥੧੦੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਵਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਤਿ ਜਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੧੦੧॥
Then he touched the feet of that castless and colorless lord in in various ways.101.
ਜਉਕਰੈਕ੍ਰਿਤਕਈਜੁਗਉਚਾਰ॥
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਕੀਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਕਈ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਤਕ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰੇ,
ਨਹੀਤਦਿਪਤਾਸੁਲਹਿਜਾਤਪਾਰ॥
ਤਦ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
If one utter His praises for several ages, even then he cannot understand His mystery
ਮਮਅਲਪਬੁਧਿਤਵਗੁਨਅਨੰਤ॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਥੋੜੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਅਨੰਤ ਹਨ।
ਬਰਨਾਨਜਾਤਤੁਮਅਤਿਬਿਅੰਤ॥੧੦੨॥
(ਮੈਂ) ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇਰੀ (ਸ਼ੋਭਾ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੨॥
"O Lord! My intellect is very low and I cannot describe Thy Vastness.102.
ਤਵਗੁਣਅਤਿਊਚਅੰਬਰਸਮਾਨ॥
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਾਂਗ ਬਹੁਤ ਉੱਚੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਮਅਲਪਬੁਧਿਬਾਲਕਅਜਾਨ॥
(ਪਰ) ਮੈਂ ਅਲਪ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਜਾਣ ਬਾਲਕ ਹਾਂ।
“Thy attributes are Great like the sky and my wisdom is very low like that of a child
ਕਿਮਸਕੌਬਰਨਤੁਮਰੇਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤਵਪਰਾਸਰਣਿਤਜਿਸਭਉਪਾਵ॥੧੦੩॥
(ਮੈਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਉਪਾ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੧੦੩॥
How can I describe the Glory? Therefore leaving all the measures, I have come under Thy Refuge.”103.
ਜਿਹਲਖਤਚਤ੍ਰਨਹਿਭੇਦਬੇਦ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਆਭਾਅਨੰਤਮਹਿਮਾਅਛੇਦ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਦੀ) ਆਭਾ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਛੇਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
His mystery cannot be known to all the four Vedas His Glory is infinite and supreme
ਗੁਨਗਨਤਚਤ੍ਰਮੁਖਪਰਾਹਾਰ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਹਾਰ ਗਿਆ,
ਤਬਨੇਤਿਨੇਤਿਕਿਨੋਉਚਾਰ॥੧੦੪॥
ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨੇਤਿ ਨੇਤਿ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧੦੪॥
Brahma also got tired in praising Him and is uttering Him Greatness only by the words “Neti, Neti” (not this, not this).104.
ਥਕਿਗਿਰਿਓਬ੍ਰਿਧਸਿਰਲਿਖਤਕਿਤ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਦੀ) ਕੀਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖਦਿਆਂ ਲਿਖਦਿਆਂ ਬਿਰਧ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ) ਥਕ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਡਿਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਚਕਿਰਹੇਬਾਲਿਖਿਲਾਦਿਚਿਤ॥
'ਬਾਲਿਖਿਲਾਦਿ' (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ-ਪੁੱਤਰ) ਵੀ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Ganesha also gets tired in writing His Praises and all of them, feeling His Omnipresence, get wonder-struck
ਗੁਨਗਨਤਚਤ੍ਰਮੁਖਹਾਰਮਾਨਿ॥
ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਹਾਰ ਮੰਨ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਠਿਤਜਿਬਿਅੰਤਿਕਿਨੋਬਖਾਨ॥੧੦੫॥
ਹਠ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੫॥
Brahma also accepted defet, while singing His Praises and forsaking his persistence by describing Him only as infinite.105.
ਤਹਜਪਤਰੁਦ੍ਰਜੁਗਕੋਟਿਭੀਤ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਨੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਯੁਗ ਬਿਤਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਹਿਗਈਗੰਗਸਿਰਮੁਰਿਨਚੀਤ॥
ਸਿਰ ਉਤੋਂ ਗੰਗਾ ਵਹਿ ਗਈ, ਪਰ (ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ) ਚਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੋੜਿਆ।
Rudra is remembering Him for millions of ages the Ganges is flowing from the head of that Rudra
ਕਈਕਲਪਬੀਤਜਿਹਧਰਤਿਧਿਆਨ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਿਆਂ (ਸਾਧਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕਈ ਕਲਪ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
ਨਹੀਤਦਿਪਧਿਆਨਆਏਸੁਜਾਨ॥੧੦੬॥
ਪਰ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ (ਉਹ) ਸੁਜਾਨ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ ॥੧੦੬॥
He is not bound down within the meditation of sagacious individuals, even on meditating Him for many Kalpas (ages).106.
ਜਬਕੀਨਨਾਲਿਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ॥
ਜਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਮਲ-ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਮੁਨਮਨਿਮਹਾਨਦਿਜਬਰਦਿਜੇਸ॥
ਜੋ ਮਹਾਨ ਮਨਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਮੁਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਬ੍ਰਹਾਮਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ,
ਨਹੀਕਮਲਨਾਲਕੋਲਖਾਪਾਰ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਲ-ਨਾਲ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਿਰਾ ਪਤਾ ਨਾ ਲਗਿਆ,
ਕਹੋਤਾਸੁਕੈਸਪਾਵੈਬਿਚਾਰ॥੧੦੭॥
(ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਦਸੋ ਕਿ ਉਹ (ਕਾਲ ਦੇਵ) ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੇਗਾ ॥੧੦੭॥
When Brahma, who is superb amongst the great sages, entered the lotus-stalk, he could not even know the end of that lotus-stalk, then how can our power of reflection and wisdom realise Him?107.
ਬਰਨੀਨਜਾਤਿਜਿਹਛਬਿਸੁਰੰਗ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਛਬੀ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਭਾਆਪਾਰਮਹਿਮਾਅਭੰਗ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਦੀ) ਅਪਾਰ ਆਭਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਭੰਗ (ਨਸ਼ਟ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਮਹਿਮਾ ਹੈ।
He, whose elegant comeliness cannot be described, His Greatness and Glory is infinite
ਜਿਹਏਕਰੂਪਕਿਨੋਅਨੇਕ॥
ਜਿਸ ਇਕ ਨੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਰੂਪ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਪਗਛੋਰਿਆਨਤਿਹਧਰੋਟੇਕ॥੧੦੮॥
ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੋ ॥੧੦੮॥
He, was has manifested Himself in more than one forms meditate only on His Feet.108.

ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਬਿਅੰਤਿਦੇਸਭਵੰਤਕਿਰਤਉਚਾਰ॥
ਅਤ੍ਰੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਦੱਤ) ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਫਿਰਿਆ
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਪਗੋਲਗਾਤਜਿਗਰਬਅਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਮਾਰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
Touching the feet of various sages and forsaking his pride, Dutt, the son of Atri, began to wander in various countries
ਕੋਟਿਬਰਖਕਰੀਜਬੈਹਰਿਸੇਵਿਵਾਚਿਤੁਲਾਇ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਦ ਚਿਤ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਅਕਸਮਾਤਭਈਤਬੈਤਿਹਬਿਓਮਬਾਨਬਨਾਇ॥੧੦੯॥
(ਤਾਂ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਚਾਨਕ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਦੀ ਆਕਾਸ਼ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੦੯॥
When, for lakhs of years, he served the Lord single-mindedly, then suddenly, a voice came from heaven.109.
ਬ੍ਯੋਮਬਾਨੀਬਾਚਦਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ॥
ਆਕਾਸ਼ਬਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਦੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਿਹਾ:
(Now begins the description of adopting the Immortal Lord as the First Guru) Speech of heavenly voice addressed to Dutt :
ਦਤਸਤਿਕਹੋਤੁਝੈਗੁਰਹੀਣਮੁਕਤਿਨਹੋਇ॥
ਹੇ ਦੱਤ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
ਰਾਵਰੰਕਪ੍ਰਜਾਵਜਾਇਮਭਾਖਈਸਭਕੋਇ॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੰਕ, ਪਰਜਾ ਵਰਜਾ (ਆਦਿ) ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
“O Dutt! I am telling you the truth that none out of the people, the king, the poor and others, gets salvation without the Guru
ਕੋਟਿਕਸਟਨਕਿਉਕਰੋਨਹੀਐਸਦੇਹਿਉਧਾਰ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਹ ਦਾ ਉੱਧਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ।
ਜਾਇਕੈਗੁਰਕੀਜੀਐਸੁਨਿਸਤਿਅਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਮਾਰ॥੧੧੦॥
ਹੇ ਅਤ੍ਰੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ! ਇਸ ਸੱਚੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਲੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ॥੧੧੦॥
“You may suffer millions of tribulations, but this body will not be redeemed, therefore, O the son of Atri, you may adopt a Guru.”110.

ਐਸਬਾਕਭਏਜਬੈਤਬਦਤਸਤਸਰੂਪ॥
ਜਦ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਈ, ਤਦ ਦੱਤ ਜੋ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ,
ਸਿੰਧੁਸੀਲਸੁਬ੍ਰਿਤਕੋਨਦਗ੍ਯਾਨਕੋਜਨੁਕੂਪ॥
ਸ਼ੀਲ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਚੰਗੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਨੋ ਖੂਹ ਹੈ,
When this voice of heaven was heard, then Dutt, store of good qualities and knowledge and ocean of gentleness prostrating on the feet of the Lord, said,
ਪਾਨਲਾਗਡੰਡੌਤਿਕੈਇਹਭਾਤਿਕੀਨਉਚਾਰ॥
ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਡੰਡੌਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਿਆ ਕਿ
ਕਉਨਸੋਗੁਰਕੀਜੀਐਕਹਿਮੋਹਿਤਤਬਿਚਾਰ॥੧੧੧॥
(ਉਹ) ਕੌਣ ਹੈ? ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ, ਇਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਦਸੋ ॥੧੧੧॥
“O Lord! kindly give me the crux of the matter as to whom I should adopt my Guru?”111.
ਬ੍ਯੋਮਬਾਨੀਬਾਚ॥
ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ:

ਜਉਨਚਿਤਬਿਖੈਰੁਚੈਸੋਈਕੀਜੀਐਗੁਰਦੇਵ॥
ਜੋ ਚਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
