ਦੂਖਭੂਖਕਬਹੂੰਨਸੰਤਾਏ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਭੁਖ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਤਾਉਂਦੀ
ਜਾਲਕਾਲਕੇਬੀਚਨਆਏ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸਦੇ ॥੬॥
Their sorrows, their wants were vanished and even their transmigration came to and end.6.
ਨਾਨਕਅੰਗਦਕੋਬਪੁਧਰਾ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਅੰਗਦ (ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਦੂਜਾ) ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ
ਧਰਮਪ੍ਰਚੁਰਿਇਹਜਗਮੋਕਰਾ॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
Nanak transformed himself to Angad and spread Dharma in the world.
ਅਮਰਦਾਸਪੁਨਿਨਾਮਕਹਾਯੋ॥
ਫਿਰ (ਤੀਜੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ) ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਅਖਵਾਏ,
ਜਨੁਦੀਪਕਤੇਦੀਪਜਗਾਯੋ॥੭॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਦੀਪਕ ਨਾਲ ਦੀਪਕ ਜਗਾ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੭॥
He was called Amar Das in the next transformation, a lamp was lit from the lamp.7.
ਜਬਬਰਦਾਨਿਸਮੈਵਹੁਆਵਾ॥
ਜਦ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਆ ਗਿਆ
ਰਾਮਦਾਸਤਬਗੁਰੂਕਹਾਵਾ॥
ਤਾਂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਦਵੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਸ਼ੋਭਿਤ ਹੋਏ।
When the opportune time came for the boon, then the Guru was called Ram Das.
ਤਿਹਬਰਦਾਨਿਪੁਰਾਤਨਿਦੀਆ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ
ਅਮਰਦਾਸਿਸੁਰਪੁਰਿਮਗਲੀਆ॥੮॥
(ਆਪ ਗੁਰੂ) ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਸੁਅਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ॥੮॥
The old boon was bestowed upon him, when Amar Das departed for the heavens.8.
ਸ੍ਰੀਨਾਨਕਅੰਗਦਿਕਰਿਮਾਨਾ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਗਦ
ਅਮਰਦਾਸਅੰਗਦਪਹਿਚਾਨਾ॥
ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਨੂੰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ (ਵਜੋਂ) ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ
Sri Nanak was recognized in Angad, and Angad in Amar Das.
ਅਮਰਦਾਸਰਾਮਦਾਸਕਹਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਸਾਧਨਲਖਾਮੂੜਨਹਿਪਾਯੋ॥੯॥
ਸਾਧੂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ, ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੇ ॥੯॥
Amar Das was called Ram Das, only the saints know it and the fools did not.9.
ਭਿੰਨਭਿੰਨਸਭਹੂੰਕਰਿਜਾਨਾ॥
ਸਭ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਏਕਰੂਪਕਿਨਹੂੰਪਹਿਚਾਨਾ॥
(ਪਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੇ (ਚੌਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ।
The people on the whole considered them as separate ones, but there were few who recognized them as one and the same.
ਜਿਨਜਾਨਾਤਿਨਹੀਸਿਧਿਪਾਈ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਕਰਕੇ) ਜਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ (ਸਿੱਧੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁਸਮਝੇਸਿਧਿਹਾਥਿਨਆਈ॥੧੦॥
(ਇਸ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦੀ ॥੧੦॥
Those who recognized them as One, they were successful on the spiritual plane. Without recognition there was no success.10.
ਰਾਮਦਾਸਹਰਿਸੋਮਿਲਿਗਏ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ) ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਗਏ
ਗੁਰਤਾਦੇਤਅਰਜੁਨਹਿਭਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਅਰਜਨ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਗਏ।
When Ramdas merged in the Lord, the Guruship was bestowed upon Arjan.
ਜਬਅਰਜੁਨਪ੍ਰਭਲੋਕਿਸਿਧਾਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਅਰਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਲੋਕ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ,
ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦਤਿਹਠਾਂਠਹਰਾਏ॥੧੧॥
(ਤਾਂ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
When Arjan left for the abode of the Lord, Hargobind was seated on this throne.11.
ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦਪ੍ਰਭਲੋਕਿਸਿਧਾਰੇ॥
ਜਦੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ,
ਹਰੀਰਾਇਤਿਹਠਾਂਬੈਠਾਰੇ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ) ਹਰੀ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਉਤੇ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
When Hargobind left for the abode of the Lord, Har rai was seated in his place.
ਹਰੀਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਿਤਿਨਕੇਸੁਤਵਏ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਏ।
ਤਿਨਤੇਤੇਗਬਹਾਦੁਰਭਏ॥੧੨॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਹੋਏ ॥੧੨॥
Har Krishan (the next Guru) was his son, after him, Tegh Bahadur became the Guru.12.
ਤਿਲਕਜੰਞੂਰਾਖਾਪ੍ਰਭਤਾਕਾ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ) ਦੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਜੂ ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਕੀਨੋਬਡੋਕਲੂਮਹਿਸਾਕਾ॥
(ਇਸ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਕਲਿਯੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਾਕਾ ਕਰ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ।
He protected the forehead mark and sacred thread (of the Hindus) which marked a great event in the Iron age.
ਸਾਧਨਹੇਤਿਇਤੀਜਿਨਿਕਰੀ॥
ਸਾਧੂ-ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ) ਦੀ ਹਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ
ਸੀਸੁਦੀਯਾਪਰੁਸੀਨਉਚਰੀ॥੧੩॥
ਕਿ ਸੀਸ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਪਰ (ਮੂੰਹੋਂ) ਸੀ ਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੱਢੀ ॥੧੩॥
For the sake of saints, he laid down his head without even a sign.13.
ਧਰਮਹੇਤਸਾਕਾਜਿਨਿਕੀਆ॥
ਧਰਮ (ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ) ਲਈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸਾਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ
ਸੀਸੁਦੀਆਪਰੁਸਿਰਰੁਨਦੀਆ॥
ਕਿ ਸੀਸ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਪਰ (ਧਰਮ ਉਤੇ ਅਟਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ) ਹਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਡਿਆ।
For the sake of Dharma, he sacrificed himself. He laid down his head but not his creed.
ਨਾਟਕਚੇਟਕਕੀਏਕੁਕਾਜਾ॥
(ਧਰਮ-ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਜੋ (ਸਾਧਕ) ਨਾਟਕ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਟਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਪ੍ਰਭਲੋਗਨਕਹਆਵਤਲਾਜਾ॥੧੪॥
(ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਪੰਚਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਹਰਿ-ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਸਚ ਕਰ ਵਿਖਾਈ) ॥੧੪॥
The saints of the Lord abhor the performance of miracles and malpractices. 14.

ਠੀਕਰਫੋਰਿਦਿਲੀਸਸਿਰਿਪ੍ਰਭਪੁਰਿਕੀਯਾਪਯਾਨ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਰੂਪੀ) ਠੀਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ (ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ) ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਭੰਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਲੋਕ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਸਥਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ।
Breaking the potsherd of his body head of the king of Delhi (Aurangzeb), He left for the abode of the Lord.
ਤੇਗਬਹਾਦੁਰਸੀਕ੍ਰਿਆਕਰੀਨਕਿਨਹੂੰਆਨਿ॥੧੫॥
(ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਵਰਗਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
None could perform such a feat as that of Tegh Bahadur.15.
ਤੇਗਬਹਾਦੁਰਕੇਚਲਤਭਯੋਜਗਤਕੋਸੋਕ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ ਦੇ ਚਲਾਣੇ ਦੇ ਕੌਤੁਕ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਗ ਛਾ ਗਿਆ।
The whole world bemoaned the departure of Tegh Bahadur.
ਹੈਹੈਹੈਸਭਜਗਭਯੋਜੈਜੈਜੈਸੁਰਲੋਕਿ॥੧੬॥
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਾ-ਹਾ-ਕਾਰ ਮਚ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਦੇਵ-ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੈ-ਜੈ-ਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੬॥
Whit the world Iamented, the gods hailed his arrival in heavens.16.

ਤਪਸਾਧਤਜਿਹਬਿਧਿਮੁਹਿਆਨੋ॥
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਗਿਆ।
Now I relate my own story as to how I was brought here, while I was absorbed in deep meditation.
ਹੇਮਕੁੰਟਪਰਬਤਹੈਜਹਾਂ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਹੇਮਕੁੰਟ ਪਰਬਤ ਹੈ
ਸਪਤਸ੍ਰਿੰਗਸੋਭਿਤਹੈਤਹਾਂ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਸੱਤ (ਪਰਬਤੀ) ਚੋਟੀਆਂ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
The site was the mountain named Hemkunt, with seven peaks and looks there very impressive.1.
ਸਪਤਸ੍ਰਿੰਗਤਿਹਨਾਮੁਕਹਾਵਾ॥
ਉਸ (ਸਥਾਨ ਦਾ) ਨਾਂ 'ਸਪਤਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ' ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਲਗਿਆ
ਪੰਡੁਰਾਜਜਹਜੋਗੁਕਮਾਵਾ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਪਾਂਡਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ-ਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
That mountain is called Sapt Shring (seven-peaked mountain), where the Pandavas Practised Yoga.
ਤਹਹਮਅਧਿਕਤਪਸਿਆਸਾਧੀ॥
ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਪਸਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ
ਮਹਾਕਾਲਕਾਲਕਾਅਰਾਧੀ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਕਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਦੀ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੨॥
There I was absorbed in deep meditation on the Primal Power, the Supreme KAL.2.
ਇਹਬਿਧਿਕਰਤਤਪਸਿਆਭਯੋ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਪਸਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ (ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਤਪਸਿਆ ਦੇ ਫਲਸਰੂਪ)
ਦ੍ਵੈਤੇਏਕਰੂਪਹ੍ਵੈਗਯੋ॥
ਦ੍ਵੈਤ ਤੋਂ ਅਦ੍ਵੈਤ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
In this way, my meditation reached its zenith and I became One with the Omnipotent Lord.
ਤਾਤਮਾਤਮੁਰਅਲਖਅਰਾਧਾ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ
ਬਹੁਬਿਧਿਜੋਗਸਾਧਨਾਸਾਧਾ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਯੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੩॥
My parents also meditated for the union with the Incomprehensible Lord and performed many types of disciplines for union.3.
ਤਿਨਜੋਕਰੀਅਲਖਕੀਸੇਵਾ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਲੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਤਾਤੇਭਏਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਿਗੁਰਦੇਵਾ॥
ਉਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਏ।
The service that they rendered the Incomprehensible Lord, caused the pleasure of the Supreme Guru (i.e. Lord).
ਤਿਨਪ੍ਰਭਜਬਆਇਸੁਮੁਹਿਦੀਆ॥
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਗਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ
ਤਬਹਮਜਨਮਕਲੂਮਹਿਲੀਆ॥੪॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਲਿਯੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
When the Lord ordered me, I was born in this Iron age.4.
ਚਿਤਨਭਯੋਹਮਰੋਆਵਨਕਹਿ॥
ਸਾਡਾ ਆਉਣ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ
ਚੁਭੀਰਹੀਸ੍ਰੁਤਿਪ੍ਰਭੁਚਰਨਨਮਹਿ॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ (ਸਾਡੀ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
I had no desire to come, because I was totally absorbed in devotion for the Holy feet of the Lord.
ਜਿਉਤਿਉਪ੍ਰਭਹਮਕੋਸਮਝਾਯੋ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ
ਇਮਕਹਿਕੈਇਹਲੋਕਿਪਠਾਯੋ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜਿਆ ॥੫॥
But the Lord made me understand His Will and sent me in this world with the following words.5.
ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖਬਾਚਇਸਕੀਟਪ੍ਰਤਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕੀਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕਿਹਾ:

ਦਈਤਰਚੇਦੁਸਟਦੁਖਦਾਈ॥
(ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਖੀ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
When I created the world in the beginning, I created the ignominious and dreadful Daityas.
ਤੇਭੁਜਬਲਬਵਰੇਹ੍ਵੈਗਏ॥
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਭੁਜ-ਬਲ 'ਤੇ ਪਾਗਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ
ਪੂਜਤਪਰਮਪੁਰਖਰਹਿਗਏ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨੋ ਹਟ ਗਏ ॥੬॥
Who became mad with power and abandoned the worship of Supreme Purusha.6.
ਤੇਹਮਤਮਕਿਤਨਿਕਮੋਖਾਪੇ॥

ਤੇਭੀਬਲਿਪੂਜਾਉਰਝਾਏ॥
ਉਹ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਵਿਚ ਉਲਝ ਗਏ
ਆਪਨਹੀਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਕਹਾਏ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਵਰ ਅਖਵਾਉਣ ਲਗੇ ॥੭॥
