ਮਹਾਪਾਪਨਾਸੰ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਹਾ ਪਾਪ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
He himself adopted the sin-destroyer Vanaprastha Ashrama.
ਰਿਖੰਭੇਸਕੀਯੰ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਰਿਸ਼ੀ-ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ
ਤਿਸੈਰਾਜਦੀਯੰ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਕੁਸ਼-ਬੰਸੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੫॥
He put on the garb of a sage (rishi) and gave his kingdom to the reciter (Amrit Rai)5.
ਰਹੇਹੋਰਿਲੋਗੰ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਬਨ ਜਾਣੋ) ਲੋਕੀਂ ਹੋੜਦੇ ਰਹੇ
ਤਜੇਸਰਬਸੋਗੰ॥
(ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੋਗ (ਤਨਾਉ) ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
The people tried to the king to do so, but, he had abandoned all sorrows.
ਧਨੰਧਾਮਤਿਆਗੇ॥
ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਘਰ-ਬਾਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤੇ
ਪ੍ਰਭੰਪ੍ਰੇਮਪਾਗੇ॥੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੬॥
And leaving his wealth and property, absorbed himself in divine love.6.

ਬੇਦੀਭਯੋਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਰਾਜਕਹਪਾਇਕੈ॥
ਬੇਦੀ (ਕੁਸ਼-ਬੰਸੀ) ਰਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ
ਦੇਤਭਯੋਬਰਦਾਨਹੀਐਹੁਲਸਾਇਕੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਦੇਣ ਲਗੇ
Having been bestowed the kingdom, the Bedis were very much pleased. With happy heart, he predicted this boon:
ਜਬਨਾਨਕਕਲਮੈਹਮਆਨਿਕਹਾਇਹੈ॥
ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਲਿਯੁਗ ਵਿਚ 'ਨਾਨਕ' ਅਖਵਾਵਾਂਗੇ
ਹੋਜਗਤਪੂਜਕਰਿਤੋਹਿਪਰਮਪਦੁਪਾਇਹੈ॥੭॥
ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪੂਜਣ ਯੋਗ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮ-ਪਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ॥੭॥
“When in the Iron age, I shall be called Nanak, you will attain the Supreme State and be worshipped by the world.”7.

ਲਵੀਰਾਜਦੇਬਨਿਗਯੇਬੇਦੀਅਨਕੀਨੋਰਾਜ॥
ਲਵ-ਬੰਸੀ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਲ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਦੀਆਂ (ਕੁਸ਼-ਬੰਸੀਆਂ) ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਕੀਤਾ।
The descendants of Lava, after handing over the kingdom, went to the forest, and the Bedis (descendants of Kusha) began to rule.
ਭਾਂਤਿਭਾਂਤਿਤਨਿਭੋਗੀਯੰਭੂਅਕਾਸਕਲਸਮਾਜ॥੮॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭੂਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਿਆ ॥੮॥
They enjoyed all comforts of the earth in various ways.8.

ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਯਬੇਦਸੁਨਬੇਤੁਮਕੀਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ!) ਤੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣਿਆ
ਚਤੁਰਬੇਦਸੁਨਿਭੂਅਕੋਦੀਆ॥
ਅਤੇ ਚੌਥਾ ਵੇਦ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
“O Sodhi king! You have listened to the recitation of three Vedas, and while listening to the fourth, you gave away your kingdom.
ਤੀਨਜਨਮਹਮਹੂੰਜਬਧਰਿਹੈ॥
ਅਸੀਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਜਨਮ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਲਵਾਂਗੇ,
ਚੌਥੇਜਨਮਗੁਰੂਤੁਹਿਕਰਿਹੈ॥੯॥
ਤਾਂ ਚੌਥੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ॥੯॥
“When I shall have taken three births, you will be made the Guru in he fourth birth.”9.
ਉਤਰਾਜਾਕਾਨਨਹਿਸਿਧਾਯੋ॥
ਉਧਰ (ਸੋਢੀ) ਰਾਜਾ ਬਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ,
ਇਤਇਨਰਾਜਕਰਤਸੁਖਪਾਯੋ॥
ਇਧਰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਬੇਦੀਆਂ) ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
That (Sodhi) king left for the forest, and this (Bedi) king absorbed himself in royal pleasures.
ਕਹਾਲਗੇਕਰਿਕਥਾਸੁਨਾਊ॥
ਕਿਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਇਹ ਕਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਵਾਂ
ਗ੍ਰੰਥਬਢਨਤੇਅਧਿਕਡਰਾਊ॥੧੦॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਦੇ ਵਡੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
To what extent, I should narrate the story? It is feared that this book will become voluminous.10.

ਬਹੁਰਿਬਿਖਾਧਬਾਧਿਯੰ॥
ਫਿਰ (ਬੇਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਝਗੜਾ ਵਧ ਗਿਆ,
ਕਿਨੀਨਤਾਹਿਸਾਧਿਯੰ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਠੀਕ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ।
There arose again quarrels and enmities, there was none to defuse the situation.
ਕਰੰਮਕਾਲਯੋਭਈ॥
ਕਾਲ-ਚੱਕਰ ਇੰਜ ਚਲਿਆ
ਸੁਭੂਮਿਬੰਸਤੇਗਈ॥੧॥
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਭੂਮੀ (ਬੇਦੀ) ਬੰਸ ਤੋਂ ਖੁਸ ਗਈ ॥੧॥
In due course of time it actually happened that the Bedi caln lost its kingdom.1.

ਬਿਪ੍ਰਕਰਤਭਏਸੂਦ੍ਰਬ੍ਰਿਤਿਛਤ੍ਰੀਬੈਸਨਕਰਮ॥
ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਸੂਦਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਗ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੈਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਅਪਣਾ ਲਿਆ।
The Vaishyas acted like Shudras and Kshatriyas like Vaishyas.
ਬੈਸਕਰਤਭਏਛਤ੍ਰਿਬ੍ਰਿਤਿਸੂਦ੍ਰਸੁਦਿਜਕੋਧਰਮ॥੨॥
ਵੈਸ਼ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਗ ਪਏ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੂਦਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਰਮ ਅਪਣਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੨॥
The Vaishyas acted like Kshatriyas and Shudras like Brahmins.2.

ਬੀਸਗਾਵਤਿਨਕੇਰਹਿਗਏ॥
(ਕਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ (ਕੇਵਲ) ਵੀਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ,
ਜਿਨਮੋਕਰਤਕ੍ਰਿਸਾਨੀਭਏ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਕ੍ਰਿਸਾਨੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Only twenty villages were left with the Bedis, where they became agriculturists.
ਬਹੁਤਕਾਲਇਹਭਾਂਤਿਬਿਤਾਯੋ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਬੀਤਣ ਉਪਰੰਤ
ਜਨਮਸਮੈਨਾਨਕਕੋਆਯੋ॥੩॥
(ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਵਕਤ ਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
A long time passed like this till the birth of Nanak.3.

ਤਿਨਬੇਦੀਯਨਕੇਕੁਲਬਿਖੇਪ੍ਰਗਟੇਨਾਨਕਰਾਇ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੇਦੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਵਿਚ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਏ,
Nanak Rai took birth in the Bedi clan.
ਸਭਸਿਖਨਕੋਸੁਖਦਏਜਹਤਹਭਏਸਹਾਇ॥੪॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ (ਭੀੜ ਬਣੀ ਤਾਂ) ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੪॥
He brought comfort to all his disciples and helped them at all times.4.

ਤਿਨਇਹਕਲਮੋਧਰਮਚਲਾਯੋ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਨੇ ਕਲਿਯੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਮ ਚੱਕਰ ਚਲਾਇਆ
ਸਭਸਾਧਨਕੋਰਾਹੁਬਤਾਯੋ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਭਾ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਮਾਰਗ ਦਸਿਆ।
Guru Nanak spread Dharma in the Iron age and put the seekers on the path.
ਜੋਤਾਕੇਮਾਰਗਮਹਿਆਏ॥
ਜੋ (ਲੋਕ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਸੇ ਧਰਮ ਮਾਰਗ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਏ,
ਤੇਕਬਹੂੰਨਹਿਪਾਪਸੰਤਾਏ॥੫॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਫਿਰ) ਪਾਪ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੫॥
Those who followed the path propagated by him, were never harmed by the vices.5.
ਜੇਜੇਪੰਥਤਵਨਕੇਪਰੇ॥
ਜੋ ਜੋ (ਲੋਕ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਸੇ ਧਰਮ ਮਾਰਗ ਉਤੇ ਪੈ ਗਏ
ਪਾਪਤਾਪਤਿਨਕੇਪ੍ਰਭਹਰੇ॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਲਿਆ।
All those who came within his fold, they were absolved of all their sins and troubles,
