ਬਜੇਲੋਹਕ੍ਰੋਹੰਮਹਾਜੰਗਿਮਚਿਯੰ॥੪੧॥
ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ (ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਉਤੇ) ਵਜਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪੧॥
Hearing the cracking sound bows, the warriors of great endurance are becoming cowards. The steel clatters in rage with steel nad the great war is in progress.41.
ਬਿਰਚੇਮਹਾਜੁਧਜੋਧਾਜੁਆਣੰ॥
ਜਵਾਨ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਵਡਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਰਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਖੁਲੇਖਗਖਤ੍ਰੀਅਭੂਤੰਭਯਾਣੰ॥
ਮਿਆਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ (ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
The youthful warriors are moving in this great war, with naked swords the fighters look wonderfully terrible.
ਬਲੀਜੁਝਰੁਝੈਰਸੰਰੁਦ੍ਰਰਤੇ॥
ਰੌਦਰ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਯੋਧੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਝ ਗਏ ਹਨ
ਮਿਲੇਹਥਬਖੰਮਹਾਤੇਜਤਤੇ॥੪੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ (ਇਕ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਦੂਜੇ ਦਲ ਨਾਲ) ਗੁਥਮ-ਗੁੱਥਾ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੪੨॥
Adsorbed in violent rage, the brave warriors are engaged in war. The heroes with utmost enthusiasm are catching hold the waists of opponents in order to throw them down.42.
ਝਮੀਤੇਜਤੇਗੰਸੁਰੋਸੰਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੰ॥
ਤੇਜ਼ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਚਮਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਰੁਲੇਰੁੰਡਮੁੰਡੰਉਠੀਸਸਤ੍ਰਝਾਰੰ॥
ਰੁੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਰੁਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਜਣ ਨਾਲ) ਅੱਗ (ਦੀਆਂ ਚਿੰਗਾਰੀਆਂ) ਨਿਕਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
The sharp swords glisten and are struck with great rage. Somewhere the trunks and heads are rolling in dust and with the collision of weapons, the fire-sparks arise.
ਬਬਕੰਤਬੀਰੰਭਭਕੰਤਘਾਯੰ॥
ਸੂਰਮੇ ਭਭਕਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਘਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲਹੂ ਭਕ ਭਕ (ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ);
ਮਨੋਜੁਧਇੰਦ੍ਰੰਜੁਟਿਓਬ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਯੰ॥੪੩॥
ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਵ੍ਰਿਤਾਸੁਰ ਦਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੪੩॥
Somewhere the warriors are shouting and somewhere the blood is emerging out of the wounds. It appears that Indira and Britrasura are engaged in war 43.
ਮਹਾਜੁਧਮਚਿਯੰਮਹਾਸੂਰਗਾਜੇ॥
ਮਹਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਵਡੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਗਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਆਪੋਆਪਮੈਸਸਤ੍ਰਸੋਂਸਸਤ੍ਰਬਾਜੇ॥
ਸ਼ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਉਤੇ ਆਹਮੋ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਵਜਦੇ ਹਨ।
The terrible war is in progress in which the great heroes are thundering. The weapons collide with the confronting weapons.
ਉਠੇਝਾਰਸਾਂਗੰਮਚੇਲੋਹਕ੍ਰੋਹੰ॥
ਬਰਛੀਆਂ (ਦੇ ਲਗਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਚਿੰਗਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਨੋਖੇਲਬਾਸੰਤਮਾਹੰਤਸੋਹੰ॥੪੪॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਬਸੰਤ (ਹੋਲੀ) ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੪੪॥
The sparks of fire came out of the striking spears and in violent rage, the steel reigns supreme; it seems that good persons, looking impressive, are playing Holi.44.

ਜਿਤੇਬੈਰਰੁਝੰ॥
ਜਿਤਨੇ (ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਵੈਰ ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ (ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ) ਰੁਝੇ ਸਨ,
ਤਿਤੇਅੰਤਿਜੁਝੰ॥
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
All the fighters engaged in war against their enemies, ultimately fell as martyrs.
ਜਿਤੇਖੇਤਿਭਾਜੇ॥
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਭਜੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਿਤੇਅੰਤਿਲਾਜੇ॥੪੫॥
ਉਹ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੪੫॥
All those who have run away from the battlefield, they all feel ashamed at the end. 45.
ਤੁਟੇਦੇਹਬਰਮੰ॥
(ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਦੇਹਾਂ ਉਪਰਲੇ ਕਵਚ ਟੁਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
ਛੁਟੀਹਾਥਚਰਮੰ॥
ਹੱਥੋਂ ਢਾਲਾਂ ਛੁਟ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
The armours of the bodies are broken and the shields have fallen from the hands.
ਕਹੂੰਖੇਤਿਖੋਲੰ॥
ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਟੋਪ ਪਏ ਹਨ
ਗਿਰੇਸੂਰਟੋਲੰ॥੪੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਡਿਗੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ ॥੪੬॥
Somewhere there are helmets scattered in the battlefield and somewhere the groups of warriors have fallen.46.
ਕਹੂੰਮੁਛਮੁਖੰ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਮੁੱਛਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੁਖੜੇ (ਡਿਗੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ)
ਕਹੂੰਸਸਤ੍ਰਸਖੰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਪਾਏ ਹਨ।
Somewhere the faces with whiskers have fallen, somewhere only weapons are lying.
ਕਹੂੰਖੋਲਖਗੰ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਆਨ ਪਏ ਹਨ
ਕਹੂੰਪਰਮਪਗੰ॥੪੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ (ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਪੱਗਾਂ ਪਈਆਂ ਹਨ (ਜਾਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੈਰ ਪਏ ਹਨ) ॥੪੭॥
Somewhere there are scabbards and swords and somewhere there are only few lying in the field.47.
ਗਹੇਮੁਛਬੰਕੀ॥
(ਕਿਤੇ) ਬਾਂਕੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਛਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਨੇ (ਹਥਿਆਰ) ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ
ਮੰਡੇਆਨਹੰਕੀ॥
ਫਿਰ ਯੁੱਧ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Holding their winsome whiskers, the proud warriors are somewhere engaged in fighting.
ਢਕਾਢੁਕਢਾਲੰ॥
ਢਾਲਾਂ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਉਤੇ ਵਜ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ
ਉਠੇਹਾਲਚਾਲੰ॥੪੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਾਲ-ਦੁਹਾਈ ਮਚ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੪੮॥
Somewhere the weapons are being struck with great knocking on the shield, a great commotion has arisen (in the field). 48

ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਖ਼ੂਨੀ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਮਿਆਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਢ ਲਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਨਚੇਬੀਰਬੈਤਾਲਯੰਭੂਤਪ੍ਰੇਤੰ॥
ਬੀਰ-ਬੈਤਾਲ, ਭੂਤ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਆਦਿ (ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ) ਨਚ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The brave warriors are moving in the battlefield with naked swords, smeared with blood, evil spirits, ghosts, fiends and goblins are dancing.
ਬਜੇਡੰਗਡਉਰੂਉਠੇਨਾਦਸੰਖੰ॥
ਡਉਰੂ ਡੰਕ ਡੰਕ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਘੋਰ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਉਠ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੋਮਲਜੁਟੇਮਹਾਹਥਬਖੰ॥੪੯॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਥਮ-ਗੁਥਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੪੯॥
The tabor and small drum resound and the sound of conches arises. It appears that the wrestlers, holding with their hands the waists of their opponents are trying to throw them down.49.

ਜਿਨਿਸੂਰਨਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਸਬਲਸਮੁਹਿਹ੍ਵੈਮੰਡਿਓ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਡਟ ਕੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚਾਇਆ ਸੀ,
Those warriors who had begun the war confronted their opponents with great strength.
ਤਿਨਸੁਭਟਨਤੇਏਕਕਾਲਕੋਊਜੀਅਤਨਛਡਿਓ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਾਲ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਵੀ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਡਿਆ।
Out of those warriors the KAL had not left anyone alive.
ਸਬਖਤ੍ਰੀਖਗਖੰਡਿਖੇਤਿਤੇਭੂਮੰਡਪਅਹੁਟੇ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ੂਰਵੀਰ ਖੜਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖੰਡਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਭੂ-ਮੰਡਪ ਵਿਚ ਥਕੇ ਪਏ ('ਅਹੁਟੇ') ਹਨ
All the warriors had gathered in the battlefield holding their swords.
ਸਾਰਧਾਰਿਧਰਿਧੂਮਮੁਕਤਿਬੰਧਨਤੇਛੁਟੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਧੂੰਏ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਅੱਗ) ਵਰਗੇ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ (ਲੋਹੇ) ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਸਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿਕ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Enduring the somokeless fire of the steel-edge, they have saved themselves from the bondages.
ਹ੍ਵੈਟੂਕਟੂਕਜੁਝੇਸਬੈਪਾਵਨਪਾਛੇਡਾਰੀਯੰ॥
ਟੁਕੜੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਪੈਰ ਪਿਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
They have all been chopped and fallen as martyrs and none of them hath retraced his steps.
ਜੈਕਾਰਅਪਾਰਸੁਧਾਰਹੂੰਅਬਾਸਵਲੋਕਸਿਧਾਰੀਯੰ॥੫੦॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਜੈ-ਜੈ-ਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇੰਦਰ-ਲੋਕ (ਸੁਅਰਗ) ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੫੦॥
Those who have gone like this to the abode of Indra, they are hailed with utmost reverence in the world. 50.

ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੂਰਵੀਰ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ)।
Suchlike horrible war blazed and the brave warriors left for their (heavenly) abode.
ਕਹਾਲਗੈਵਹਕਥੋਲਰਾਈ॥
ਉਸ ਲੜਾਈ ਦਾ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਕਥਨ ਕਰਾਂ,
ਆਪਨਪ੍ਰਭਾਨਬਰਨੀਜਾਈ॥੫੧॥
ਆਪਣੇ (ਬੰਸ ਦੀ) ਕੀਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੫੧॥
Upto which limit should I describe that war? I cannot describe it with my own understanding.51.

ਲਵੀਸਰਬਜੀਤੇਕੁਸੀਸਰਬਹਾਰੇ॥
ਲਵ-ਬੰਸ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਿਤ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਸ਼-ਬੰਸ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ।
ਬਚੇਜੇਬਲੀਪ੍ਰਾਨਲੈਕੇਸਿਧਾਰੇ॥
ਜੋ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਬਚ ਗਏ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਭਜ ਗਏ।
(The descendants of Lava) have all been victorious and the (descendants of Kusha) were all defeated. The descendants of Kusha who remained alive, saved themselves by fleeing away.
ਚਤੁਰਬੇਦਪਠਿਯੰਕੀਯੋਕਾਸਿਬਾਸੰ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲਿਆ।
ਘਨੇਬਰਖਕੀਨੇਤਹਾਹੀਨਿਵਾਸੰ॥੫੨॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਤਕ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੫੨॥
They went to Kashi and real all the four Vedas. They lived there for many years.52.

ਤਿਨੈਧਰਮਕੈਕਰਮਨੀਕੇਚਲਾਏ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਿਰਤ ਪਾਈ।
Those who studied the Vedas, called Vedis (Bedis), they absorbed themselves in good acts of righteousness.
ਪਠੇਕਾਗਦੰਮਦ੍ਰਰਾਜਾਸੁਧਾਰੰ॥
(ਇਧਰ) ਮਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ ਦੇ (ਲਵਬੰਸੀ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ (ਕਾਸ਼ੀ) ਭੇਜੀ
ਆਪੋਆਪਮੋਬੈਰਭਾਵੰਬਿਸਾਰੰ॥੧॥
ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਵੈਰ ਭਾਵ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The Sodhi king of Madra Desha (Punjab) sent letters to them, entreating them to forget the past enmities.1.
ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰਮੁਕਲਿਯੰਦੂਤਸੋਕਾਸਿਆਯੰ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਦੂਤ (ਚਿੱਠੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਭੇਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ
ਸਬੈਬੇਦਿਯੰਭੇਦਭਾਖੇਸੁਨਾਯੰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬੇਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਚਿੱਠੀ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਭਾਵ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
The messengers sent by the king came to Kashi and gave the message to all the Bedis.
ਸਬੈਬੇਦਪਾਠੀਚਲੇਮਦ੍ਰਦੇਸੰ॥
(ਦੂਤ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ-ਪਾਠੀ ਮਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ (ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਵਲ ਤੁਰ ਪਏ।
ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮਕੀਯੋਆਨਕੈਕੈਨਰੇਸੰ॥੨॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ (ਲਵਬੰਸੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੨॥
All the reciters of the Vedas came to Madra Desha and made obeisance to the king.2.
ਧੁਨੰਬੇਦਕੀਭੂਪਤਾਤੇਕਰਾਈ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੇਦ-ਧੁਨ ਕਰਵਾਈ (ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ)
ਸਬੈਪਾਸਬੈਠੇਸਭਾਬੀਚਭਾਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਰਾ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਬੈਠੇ।
The king caused them to recite the Vedas in the traditional manner and all the brethren (both Sodhis and Pelis) sat tohether.
ਪੜੇਸਾਮਬੇਦਜੁਜਰਬੇਦਕਥੰ॥
(ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਾਮ ਵੇਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ, ਫਿਰ ਯਜੁਰ ਵੇਦ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਰਿਗੰਬੇਦਪਠਿਯੰਕਰੇਭਾਵਹਥੰ॥੩॥
ਇਸ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਰਿਗ ਵੇਦ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ (ਰਾਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਵਬੰਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਭਾਵ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ ॥੩॥
Saam-Veda, Yajur-Veda and Rig-Ved were recited, the essence of the sayings was imbibed (by the king and his clan).3.

(ਜਦੋਂ ਕੁਸ਼-ਬੰਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ) ਅਥਰਵ ਵੇਦ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਕੀਤਾ
ਸੁਨੈਪਾਪਨਠਿਯੰ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਸਭ ਦਾ ਵੈਰ (ਪਾਪ) ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
The sin-remover Atharva-Veda was recited.
ਰਹਾਰੀਝਰਾਜਾ॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
ਦੀਆਸਰਬਸਾਜਾ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰਾ ਰਾਜ-ਪਾਟ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੪॥
The king was highly pleased and the bequeathed his kingdom to Bedis.4.
