Shalok, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਪਟੋਲਾਤੈਸਹਿਦਿਤਾਢਕਣਕੂਪਤਿਮੇਰੀ॥
ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਢਕ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੈਂ ਖਸਮ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ 'ਪਿਆਰ'-ਰੂਪ ਰੇਸ਼ਮੀ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
O Husband Lord, You have given me the silk gown of Your Love to cover and protect my honor.
ਦਾਨਾਬੀਨਾਸਾਈਮੈਡਾਨਾਨਕਸਾਰਨਜਾਣਾਤੇਰੀ॥੧॥
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਖਸਮ (ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ) ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਤੀ। ਨਾਨਕ (ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)! ॥੧॥
You are all-wise and all-knowing, O my Master; Nanak: I have not appreciated Your value, Lord. ||1||
ਮਃ੫॥
Fifth Mahalaa:
ਤੈਡੈਸਿਮਰਣਿਹਭੁਕਿਛੁਲਧਮੁਬਿਖਮੁਨਡਿਠਮੁਕੋਈ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ) ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਹਰੇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਔਖਿਆਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖੀ।
By Your meditative remembrance, I have found everything; nothing seems difficult to me.
ਜਿਸੁਪਤਿਰਖੈਸਚਾਸਾਹਿਬੁਨਾਨਕਮੇਟਿਨਸਕੈਕੋਈ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਾਲਕ ਆਪ ਰੱਖੇ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ) ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
One whose honor the True Lord Master has preserved - O Nanak, no one can dishonor him. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਹੋਵੈਸੁਖੁਘਣਾਦਯਿਧਿਆਇਐ॥
ਜੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Meditating on the Lord, there comes a great peace.
ਵੰਞੈਰੋਗਾਘਾਣਿਹਰਿਗੁਣਗਾਇਐ॥
ਜੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਾਣ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਰੋਗ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Multitudes of illnesses vanish, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਅੰਦਰਿਵਰਤੈਠਾਢਿਪ੍ਰਭਿਚਿਤਿਆਇਐ॥
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਠੰਢ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Utter peace pervades within, when God comes to mind.
ਪੂਰਨਹੋਵੈਆਸਨਾਇਮੰਨਿਵਸਾਇਐ॥
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
One's hopes are fulfilled, when one's mind is filled with the Name.
ਕੋਇਨਲਗੈਬਿਘਨੁਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਐ॥
ਜੇ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾ ਦੇਈਏ ਤਾਂ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਔਕੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
No obstacles stand in the way, when one eliminates his self-conceit.
ਗਿਆਨਪਦਾਰਥੁਮਤਿਗੁਰਤੇਪਾਇਐ॥
ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮੱਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The intellect attains the blessing of spiritual wisdom from the Guru.
ਤਿਨਿਪਾਏਸਭੇਥੋਕਜਿਸੁਆਪਿਦਿਵਾਇਐ॥
ਪਰ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਦਿਵਾਏ ਹਨ।
He receives everything, unto whom the Lord Himself gives.
ਤੂੰਸਭਨਾਕਾਖਸਮੁਸਭਤੇਰੀਛਾਇਐ॥੮॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਏ ਹੇਠ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
You are the Lord and Master of all; all are under Your Protection. ||8||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੫॥
Shalok, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਨਦੀਤਰੰਦੜੀਮੈਡਾਖੋਜੁਨਖੁੰਭੈਮੰਝਿਮੁਹਬਤਿਤੇਰੀ॥
(ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਨਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਤਰਦੀ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੈਰ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ) ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁੱਭਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ।
Crossing the stream, my foot does not get stuck - I am filled with love for You.
ਤਉਸਹਚਰਣੀਮੈਡਾਹੀਅੜਾਸੀਤਮੁਹਰਿਨਾਨਕਤੁਲਹਾਬੇੜੀ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਪਤੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ)! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਦਿਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤਰਨ ਲਈ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਤੁਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਬੇੜੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
O Lord, my heart is attached to Your Feet; the Lord is Nanak's raft and boat. ||1||
ਮਃ੫॥
Fifth Mahalaa:
ਜਿਨੑਾਦਿਸੰਦੜਿਆਦੁਰਮਤਿਵੰਞੈਮਿਤ੍ਰਅਸਾਡੜੇਸੇਈ॥
ਸਾਡੇ (ਅਸਲ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
The sight of them banishes my evil-mindedness; they are my only true friends.
ਹਉਢੂਢੇਦੀਜਗੁਸਬਾਇਆਜਨਨਾਨਕਵਿਰਲੇਕੇਈ॥੨॥
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਭਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ (ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੨॥
I have searched the whole world; O servant Nanak, how rare are such persons! ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਆਵੈਸਾਹਿਬੁਚਿਤਿਤੇਰਿਆਭਗਤਾਡਿਠਿਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਸਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
You come to mind, O Lord and Master, when I behold Your devotees.
ਮਨਕੀਕਟੀਐਮੈਲੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਵੁਠਿਆ॥
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
The filth of my mind is removed, when I dwell in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਜਨਮਮਰਣਭਉਕਟੀਐਜਨਕਾਸਬਦੁਜਪਿ॥
ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ) ਡਰ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The fear of birth and death is dispelled, meditating on the Word of His humble servant.
ਬੰਧਨਖੋਲਨਿੑਸੰਤਦੂਤਸਭਿਜਾਹਿਛਪਿ॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸੰਤ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਰੂਪ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜਿੰਨ ਭੂਤ ਲੁਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Saints untie the bonds, and all the demons are dispelled.
ਤਿਸੁਸਿਉਲਾਇਨਿੑਰੰਗੁਜਿਸਦੀਸਭਧਾਰੀਆ॥
ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ,
They inspire us to love Him, the One who established the entire universe.
ਊਚੀਹੂੰਊਚਾਥਾਨੁਅਗਮਅਪਾਰੀਆ॥
ਜੋ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ (ਅਸਾਡਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The seat of the inaccessible and infinite Lord is the highest of the high.
ਰੈਣਿਦਿਨਸੁਕਰਜੋੜਿਸਾਸਿਸਾਸਿਧਿਆਈਐ॥
ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
Night and day, with your palms pressed together, with each and every breath, meditate on Him.
ਜਾਆਪੇਹੋਇਦਇਆਲੁਤਾਂਭਗਤਸੰਗੁਪਾਈਐ॥੯॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
When the Lord Himself becomes merciful, then we attain the Society of His devotees. ||9||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੫॥
Shalok, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਬਾਰਿਵਿਡਾਨੜੈਹੁੰਮਸਧੁੰਮਸਕੂਕਾਪਈਆਰਾਹੀ॥
(ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ ਇਸ) ਬਿਗਾਨੀ ਜੂਹ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ, ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਸੇਕ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਹਰਾਂ ਪੈ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੀਵ ਘਬਰਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ);
In this wondrous forest of the world, there is chaos and confusion; shrieks emanate from the highways.
ਤਉਸਹਸੇਤੀਲਗੜੀਡੋਰੀਨਾਨਕਅਨਦਸੇਤੀਬਨੁਗਾਹੀ॥੧॥
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪਤੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ)! ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ (ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ) ਦੀ ਡੋਰ ਤੇਰੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਘ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
I am in love with You, O my Husband Lord; O Nanak, I cross the jungle joyfully. ||1||
ਮਃ੫॥
Fifth Mahalaa:
ਸਚੀਬੈਸਕਤਿਨੑਾਸੰਗਿਜਿਨਸੰਗਿਜਪੀਐਨਾਉ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੋੜ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ (ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ;
The true society is the company of those who meditate on the Name of the Lord.
ਤਿਨੑਸੰਗਿਸੰਗੁਨਕੀਚਈਨਾਨਕਜਿਨਾਆਪਣਾਸੁਆਉ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ॥੨॥
Do not associate with those, O Nanak, who look out only for their own interests. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਸਾਵੇਲਾਪਰਵਾਣੁਜਿਤੁਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਭੇਟਿਆ॥
ਉਹ ਘੜੀ ਥਾਂ ਪਈ ਜਾਣੋ ਜਿਸ ਘੜੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ।
Approved is that time, when one meets the True Guru.
ਹੋਆਸਾਧੂਸੰਗੁਫਿਰਿਦੂਖਨਤੇਟਿਆ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਦ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he does not suffer pain again.
ਪਾਇਆਨਿਹਚਲੁਥਾਨੁਫਿਰਿਗਰਭਿਨਲੇਟਿਆ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਪਿਆ, ਉਹ ਫਿਰ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
When he attains the eternal place, he does not have to enter the womb again.
ਨਦਰੀਆਇਆਇਕੁਸਗਲਬ੍ਰਹਮੇਟਿਆ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਇਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਬਾਹਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ) ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਟ ਕੇ।
He comes to see the One God everywhere.
ਤਤੁਗਿਆਨੁਲਾਇਧਿਆਨੁਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਸਮੇਟਿਆ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ) ਧਿਆਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਉੱਚੀ ਸਮਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He focuses his meditation on the essence of spiritual wisdom, and withdraws his attention from other sights.
ਸਭੋਜਪੀਐਜਾਪੁਜਿਮੁਖਹੁਬੋਲੇਟਿਆ॥
ਉਹ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ) ਜਾਪ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
All chants are chanted by one who chants them with his mouth.
ਹੁਕਮੇਬੁਝਿਨਿਹਾਲੁਸੁਖਿਸੁਖੇਟਿਆ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਖਿੜੇ-ਮੱਥੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Realizing the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he becomes happy, and he is filled with peace and tranquility.
ਪਰਖਿਖਜਾਨੈਪਾਏਸੇਬਹੁੜਿਨਖੋਟਿਆ॥੧੦॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਖ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਖੋਟੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ॥੧੦॥
Those who are assayed, and placed in the Lord's treasury, are not declared counterfeit again. ||10||
ਸਲੋਕੁਮਃ੫॥
Shalok, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਵਿਛੋਹੇਜੰਬੂਰਖਵੇਨਵੰਞਨਿਗਾਖੜੇ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਵਿਛੋੜੇ (ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ) ਜੰਬੂਰ (ਦੇ ਤਸੀਹਾਂ) ਵਾਂਗ ਔਖੇ ਹਨ, ਸਹਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ,
The pincers of separation are so painful to endure.
ਜੇਸੋਧਣੀਮਿਲੰਨਿਨਾਨਕਸੁਖਸੰਬੂਹਸਚੁ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਾਲਕ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਣ ਤਾਂ ਯਕੀਨਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
If only the Master would come to meet me! O Nanak, I would then obtain all the true comforts. ||1||
