ਸਭੁਕਿਛੁਜਾਣੈਜਾਣੁਬੁਝਿਵੀਚਾਰਦਾ॥
ਉਹ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਤੇ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Knower knows everything; He understands and contemplates.
ਅਨਿਕਰੂਪਖਿਨਮਾਹਿਕੁਦਰਤਿਧਾਰਦਾ॥
ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੂਪ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
By His creative power, He assumes numerous forms in an instant.
ਜਿਸਨੋਲਾਇਸਚਿਤਿਸਹਿਉਧਾਰਦਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One whom the Lord attaches to the Truth is redeemed.
ਜਿਸਦੈਹੋਵੈਵਲਿਸੁਕਦੇਨਹਾਰਦਾ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਕਦੇ ਹਾਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
One who has God on his side is never conquered.
ਸਦਾਅਭਗੁਦੀਬਾਣੁਹੈਹਉਤਿਸੁਨਮਸਕਾਰਦਾ॥੪॥
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥
His Court is eternal and imperishable; I humbly bow to Him. ||4||

Shalok, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਕਾਮੁਕ੍ਰੋਧੁਲੋਭੁਛੋਡੀਐਦੀਜੈਅਗਨਿਜਲਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤੇ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਛੱਡ ਦੇਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਈਏ,
Renounce sexual desire, anger and greed, and burn them in the fire.
ਜੀਵਦਿਆਨਿਤਜਾਪੀਐਨਾਨਕਸਾਚਾਨਾਉ॥੧॥
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ ॥੧॥
As long as you are alive, O Nanak, meditate continually on the True Name. ||1||

Fifth Mahalaa:
ਸਿਮਰਤਸਿਮਰਤਪ੍ਰਭੁਆਪਣਾਸਭਫਲਪਾਏਆਹਿ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਗਤ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ)
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on my God, I have obtained all the fruits.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮੁਅਰਾਧਿਆਗੁਰਪੂਰੈਦੀਆਮਿਲਾਇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, I worship the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Perfect Guru has united me with the Lord. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਸੋਮੁਕਤਾਸੰਸਾਰਿਜਿਗੁਰਿਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੈ;
One who has been instructed by the Guru is liberated in this world.
ਤਿਸਕੀਗਈਬਲਾਇਮਿਟੇਅੰਦੇਸਿਆ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
He avoids disaster, and his anxiety is dispelled.
ਤਿਸਕਾਦਰਸਨੁਦੇਖਿਜਗਤੁਨਿਹਾਲੁਹੋਇ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਜਗਤ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Beholding the blessed vision of his Darshan, the world is over-joyed.
ਜਨਕੈਸੰਗਿਨਿਹਾਲੁਪਾਪਾਮੈਲੁਧੋਇ॥
ਉਸ ਜਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
In the company of the Lord's humble servants, the world is over-joyed, and the filth of sin is washed away.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਸਾਚਾਨਾਉਓਥੈਜਾਪੀਐ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਮਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
There, they meditate on the Ambrosial Nectar of the True Name.
ਮਨਕਉਹੋਇਸੰਤੋਖੁਭੁਖਾਧ੍ਰਾਪੀਐ॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਬੰਦਾ ਭੀ ਓਥੇ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mind becomes content, and its hunger is satisfied.
ਜਿਸੁਘਟਿਵਸਿਆਨਾਉਤਿਸੁਬੰਧਨਕਾਟੀਐ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
One whose heart is filled with the Name, has his bonds cut away.
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿਕਿਨੈਵਿਰਲੈਹਰਿਧਨੁਖਾਟੀਐ॥੫॥
ਪਰ, ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
By Guru's Grace, some rare person earns the wealth of the Lord's Name. ||5||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੫॥
Shalok, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਮਨਮਹਿਚਿਤਵਉਚਿਤਵਨੀਉਦਮੁਕਰਉਉਠਿਨੀਤ॥
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ) ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਨਿੱਤ (ਸਵੇਰੇ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਾਂ।
Within my mind, I think thoughts of always rising early, and making the effort.
ਹਰਿਕੀਰਤਨਕਾਆਹਰੋਹਰਿਦੇਹੁਨਾਨਕਕੇਮੀਤ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਹਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੧॥
O Lord, my Friend, please bless Nanak with the habit of singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||1||

Fifth Mahalaa:
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਧਾਰਿਪ੍ਰਭਿਰਾਖਿਆਮਨੁਤਨੁਰਤਾਮੂਲਿ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਤਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Casting His Glance of Grace, God has saved me; my mind and body are imbued with the Primal Being.
ਨਾਨਕਜੋਪ੍ਰਭਭਾਣੀਆਮਰਉਵਿਚਾਰੀਸੂਲਿ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਹਾਲਤ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜੋ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਅਭਾਗਣ ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਮਰ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ) ॥੨॥
O Nanak, those who are pleasing to God, have their cries of suffering taken away. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਜੀਅਕੀਬਿਰਥਾਹੋਇਸੁਗੁਰਪਹਿਅਰਦਾਸਿਕਰਿ॥
ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ!
When your soul is feeling sad, offer your prayers to the Guru.
ਛੋਡਿਸਿਆਣਪਸਗਲਮਨੁਤਨੁਅਰਪਿਧਰਿ॥
ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ!
Renounce all your cleverness, and dedicate your mind and body to Him.
ਪੂਜਹੁਗੁਰਕੇਪੈਰਦੁਰਮਤਿਜਾਇਜਰਿ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਪੂਜ! (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ (ਰੂਪ 'ਬਿਰਥਾ') ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Worship the Feet of the Guru, and your evil-mindedness shall be burnt away.
ਸਾਧਜਨਾਕੈਸੰਗਿਭਵਜਲੁਬਿਖਮੁਤਰਿ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਔਖਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall cross over the terrifying and difficult world-ocean.
ਸੇਵਹੁਸਤਿਗੁਰਦੇਵਅਗੈਨਮਰਹੁਡਰਿ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰੋ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਡਰ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰੋਗੇ।
Serve the True Guru, and in the world hereafter, you shall not die of fear.
ਖਿਨਮਹਿਕਰੇਨਿਹਾਲੁਊਣੇਸੁਭਰਭਰਿ॥
ਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੱਖਣੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In an instant, he shall make you happy, and the empty vessel shall be filled to overflowing.
ਮਨਕਉਹੋਇਸੰਤੋਖੁਧਿਆਈਐਸਦਾਹਰਿ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੇ) ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mind becomes content, meditating forever on the Lord.
ਸੋਲਗਾਸਤਿਗੁਰਸੇਵਜਾਕਉਕਰਮੁਧੁਰਿ॥੬॥
ਪਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੬॥
He alone dedicates himself to the Guru's service, unto whom the Lord has granted His Grace. ||6||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੫॥
Shalok, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਲਗੜੀਸੁਥਾਨਿਜੋੜਣਹਾਰੈਜੋੜੀਆ॥
(ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ) ਚੰਗੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੱਗ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਜੋੜਨਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੈ,
I am attached to the right place; the Uniter has united me.
ਨਾਨਕਲਹਰੀਲਖਸੈਆਨਡੁਬਣਦੇਇਨਮਾਪਿਰੀ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਤੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਲਹਿਰਾਂ (ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ) ਹਨ, ਪਰ, ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, there are hundreds and thousands of waves, but my Husband Lord does not let me drown. ||1||
ਮਃ੫॥
Fifth Mahalaa:
ਬਨਿਭੀਹਾਵਲੈਹਿਕੁਸਾਥੀਲਧਮੁਦੁਖਹਰਤਾਹਰਿਨਾਮਾ॥
(ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਇਸ) ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਰੂਪ ਇਕੋ ਸਾਥੀ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
In the dreadful wilderness, I have found the one and only companion; the Name of the Lord is the Destroyer of distress.
ਬਲਿਬਲਿਜਾਈਸੰਤਪਿਆਰੇਨਾਨਕਪੂਰਨਕਾਮਾਂ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ) ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Beloved Saints, O Nanak; through them, my affairs have been brought to fulfillment. ||2||

ਪਾਈਅਨਿਸਭਿਨਿਧਾਨਤੇਰੈਰੰਗਿਰਤਿਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੇ ਤੇਰੇ (ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ) ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਈਏ ਤਾਂ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
All treasures are obtained, when we are attuned to Your Love.
ਨਹੋਵੀਪਛੋਤਾਉਤੁਧਨੋਜਪਤਿਆ॥
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲੇ) ਪਛੁਤਾਉਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਛਤਾਉਣਾ ਪਏ)।
One does not have to suffer regret and repentance, when he meditates on You.
ਪਹੁਚਿਨਸਕੈਕੋਇਤੇਰੀਟੇਕਜਨ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
No one can equal Your humble servant, who has Your Support.
ਗੁਰਪੂਰੇਵਾਹੁਵਾਹੁਸੁਖਲਹਾਚਿਤਾਰਿਮਨ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ (ਆਖ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ 'ਨਾਮ') ਚਿਤਾਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Waaho! Waaho! How wonderful is the Perfect Guru! Cherishing Him in my mind, I obtain peace.
ਗੁਰਪਹਿਸਿਫਤਿਭੰਡਾਰੁਕਰਮੀਪਾਈਐ॥
ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ।
The treasure of the Lord's Praise comes from the Guru; by His Mercy, it is obtained.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਨਦਰਿਨਿਹਾਲਬਹੁੜਿਨਧਾਈਐ॥
ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕੀਦਾ।
When the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace, one does not wander any more.
ਰਖੈਆਪਿਦਇਆਲੁਕਰਿਦਾਸਾਆਪਣੇ॥
ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Merciful Lord preserves him - He makes him His own slave.
ਹਰਿਹਰਿਹਰਿਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਜੀਵਾਸੁਣਿਸੁਣੇ॥੭॥
ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਜੀਊ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੭॥
Listening, hearing the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, I live. ||7||
