ਨਾਨਕਹਰਿਪ੍ਰਭਿਆਪਹਿਮੇਲੇ॥੪॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
O Nanak, the Lord God unites him with Himself. ||4||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਮਿਲਿਕਰਹੁਅਨੰਦ॥
ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਹ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਹੁ,
Join the Company of the Holy, and be happy.
ਗੁਨਗਾਵਹੁਪ੍ਰਭਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ॥
ਪਰਮ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੋ।
Sing the Glories of God, the embodiment of supreme bliss.
ਰਾਮਨਾਮਤਤੁਕਰਹੁਬੀਚਾਰੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਹੁ,
Contemplate the essence of the Lord's Name.
ਦ੍ਰੁਲਭਦੇਹਕਾਕਰਹੁਉਧਾਰੁ॥
ਤੇ ਇਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-) ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਬਚਾਉ ਕਰੋ ਜੋ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Redeem this human body, so difficult to obtain.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਬਚਨਹਰਿਕੇਗੁਨਗਾਉ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ਜੋ ਅਮਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਚਨ ਹਨ,
Sing the Ambrosial Words of the Lord's Glorious Praises;
ਪ੍ਰਾਨਤਰਨਕਾਇਹੈਸੁਆਉ॥
ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਹੈ।
this is the way to save your mortal soul.
ਆਠਪਹਰਪ੍ਰਭਪੇਖਹੁਨੇਰਾ॥
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖਹੁ,
Behold God near at hand, twenty-four hours a day.
ਮਿਟੈਅਗਿਆਨੁਬਿਨਸੈਅੰਧੇਰਾ॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਏਗੀ ਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
Ignorance shall depart, and darkness shall be dispelled.
ਸੁਨਿਉਪਦੇਸੁਹਿਰਦੈਬਸਾਵਹੁ॥
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਉ,
Listen to the Teachings, and enshrine them in your heart.
ਮਨਇਛੇਨਾਨਕਫਲਪਾਵਹੁ॥੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਮਿਲਣਗੀਆਂ ॥੫॥
O Nanak, you shall obtain the fruits of your mind's desires. ||5||
ਹਲਤੁਪਲਤੁਦੁਇਲੇਹੁਸਵਾਰਿ॥
ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਵੋ,
Embellish both this world and the next;
ਰਾਮਨਾਮੁਅੰਤਰਿਉਰਿਧਾਰਿ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਓ।
enshrine the Lord's Name deep within your heart.
ਪੂਰੇਗੁਰਕੀਪੂਰੀਦੀਖਿਆ॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਭੀ ਪੂਰਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੁਕੰਮਲ) ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
Perfect are the Teachings of the Perfect Guru.
ਜਿਸੁਮਨਿਬਸੈਤਿਸੁਸਾਚੁਪਰੀਖਿਆ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ) ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
That person, within whose mind it abides, realizes the Truth.
ਮਨਿਤਨਿਨਾਮੁਜਪਹੁਲਿਵਲਾਇ॥
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਲਿਵ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਹੁ,
With your mind and body, chant the Naam; lovingly attune yourself to it.
ਦੂਖੁਦਰਦੁਮਨਤੇਭਉਜਾਇ॥
ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
Sorrow, pain and fear shall depart from your mind.
ਸਚੁਵਾਪਾਰੁਕਰਹੁਵਾਪਾਰੀ॥
ਹੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ! ਸੱਚਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਹੁ,
Deal in the true trade, O trader,
ਦਰਗਹਨਿਬਹੈਖੇਪਤੁਮਾਰੀ॥
(ਨਾਮ ਰੂਪ ਸੱਚੇ ਵਣਜ ਨਾਲ) ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾਏਗਾ।
and your merchandise shall be safe in the Court of the Lord.
ਏਕਾਟੇਕਰਖਹੁਮਨਮਾਹਿ॥
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਰੱਖੋ,
Keep the Support of the One in your mind.
ਨਾਨਕਬਹੁਰਿਨਆਵਹਿਜਾਹਿ॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੬॥
O Nanak, you shall not have to come and go in reincarnation again. ||6||
ਤਿਸਤੇਦੂਰਿਕਹਾਕੋਜਾਇ॥
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
Where can anyone go, to get away from Him?
ਉਬਰੈਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੁਧਿਆਇ॥
ਜੀਵ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਹੈ।
Meditating on the Protector Lord, you shall be saved.
ਨਿਰਭਉਜਪੈਸਗਲਭਉਮਿਟੈ॥
ਜੋ ਮੁਨੱਖ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਡਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Meditating on the Fearless Lord, all fear departs.
ਪ੍ਰਭਕਿਰਪਾਤੇਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਛੁਟੈ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬੰਦਾ (ਡਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By God's Grace, mortals are released.
ਜਿਸੁਪ੍ਰਭੁਰਾਖੈਤਿਸੁਨਾਹੀਦੂਖ॥
ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ,
One who is protected by God never suffers in pain.
ਨਾਮੁਜਪਤਮਨਿਹੋਵਤਸੂਖ॥
ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Chanting the Naam, the mind becomes peaceful.
ਚਿੰਤਾਜਾਇਮਿਟੈਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ॥
(ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ) ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Anxiety departs, and ego is eliminated.
ਤਿਸੁਜਨਕਉਕੋਇਨਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰੁ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
No one can equal that humble servant.
ਸਿਰਊਪਰਿਠਾਢਾਗੁਰੁਸੂਰਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਖਲੋਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
The Brave and Powerful Guru stands over his head.
ਨਾਨਕਤਾਕੇਕਾਰਜਪੂਰਾ॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਰਾਸ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
O Nanak, his efforts are fulfilled. ||7||
ਮਤਿਪੂਰੀਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਜਾਕੀਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ॥
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਪੂਰਨ (infallible, ਅਭੁੱਲ) ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਰਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
His wisdom is perfect, and His Glance is Ambrosial.
ਦਰਸਨੁਪੇਖਤਉਧਰਤਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਉੱਧਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Beholding His Vision, the universe is saved.
ਚਰਨਕਮਲਜਾਕੇਅਨੂਪ॥
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕਮਲਾਂ (ਵਰਗੇ) ਅੱਤ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਨ,
His Lotus Feet are incomparably beautiful.
ਸਫਲਦਰਸਨੁਸੁੰਦਰਹਰਿਰੂਪ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
The Blessed Vision of His Darshan is fruitful and rewarding; His Lordly Form is beautiful.
ਧੰਨੁਸੇਵਾਸੇਵਕੁਪਰਵਾਨੁ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ (ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ,
Blessed is His service; His servant is famous.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀਪੁਰਖੁਪ੍ਰਧਾਨੁ॥
ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ।
The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, is the most exalted Supreme Being.
ਜਿਸੁਮਨਿਬਸੈਸੁਹੋਤਨਿਹਾਲੁ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਐਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਫੁੱਲ ਵਾਂਗ) ਖਿੜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
That one, within whose mind He abides, is blissfully happy.
ਤਾਕੈਨਿਕਟਿਨਆਵਤਕਾਲੁ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਕਾਲ (ਭੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)।
Death does not draw near him.
ਅਮਰਭਏਅਮਰਾਪਦੁਪਾਇਆ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
One becomes immortal, and obtains the immortal status,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਨਾਨਕਹਰਿਧਿਆਇਆ॥੮॥੨੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
meditating on the Lord, O Nanak, in the Company of the Holy. ||8||22||
ਸਲੋਕੁ॥
Shalok:
ਗਿਆਨਅੰਜਨੁਗੁਰਿਦੀਆਅਗਿਆਨਅੰਧੇਰਬਿਨਾਸੁ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਗਿਆਨ (ਰੂਪ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Guru has given the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom, and dispelled the darkness of ignorance.
ਹਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਤੇਸੰਤਭੇਟਿਆਨਾਨਕਮਨਿਪਰਗਾਸੁ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
By the Lord's Grace, I have met the Saint; O Nanak, my mind is enlightened. ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Ashtapadee:
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿਅੰਤਰਿਪ੍ਰਭੁਡੀਠਾ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
In the Society of the Saints, I see God deep within my being.
ਨਾਮੁਪ੍ਰਭੂਕਾਲਾਗਾਮੀਠਾ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
God's Name is sweet to me.
ਸਗਲਸਮਗ੍ਰੀਏਕਸੁਘਟਮਾਹਿ॥
(ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਲੀਨ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ),
All things are contained in the Heart of the One,
ਅਨਿਕਰੰਗਨਾਨਾਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਹਿ॥
(ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ (ਨਿਕਲੇ ਹੋਏ) ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
although they appear in so many various colors.
ਨਉਨਿਧਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਪ੍ਰਭਕਾਨਾਮੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੋ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ (ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ;
The nine treasures are in the Ambrosial Name of God.
ਦੇਹੀਮਹਿਇਸਕਾਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ॥
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।)
Within the human body is its place of rest.
ਸੁੰਨਸਮਾਧਿਅਨਹਤਤਹਨਾਦ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਫੁਰ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
The Deepest Samaadhi, and the unstruck sound current of the Naad are there.
ਕਹਨੁਨਜਾਈਅਚਰਜਬਿਸਮਾਦ॥
ਤੇ, ਅਜੇਹਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਰਾਗ (-ਰੂਪ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
The wonder and marvel of it cannot be described.
ਤਿਨਿਦੇਖਿਆਜਿਸੁਆਪਿਦਿਖਾਏ॥
(ਪਰ) ਇਹ (ਆਨੰਦ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਵਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He alone sees it, unto whom God Himself reveals it.
ਨਾਨਕਤਿਸੁਜਨਸੋਝੀਪਾਏ॥੧॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, that humble being understands. ||1||
ਸੋਅੰਤਰਿਸੋਬਾਹਰਿਅਨੰਤ॥
ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਾਹਰ (ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ)
The Infinite Lord is inside, and outside as well.
ਘਟਿਘਟਿਬਿਆਪਿਰਹਿਆਭਗਵੰਤ॥
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
Deep within each and every heart, the Lord God is pervading.
ਧਰਨਿਮਾਹਿਆਕਾਸਪਇਆਲ॥
ਧਰਤੀ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਤੇ ਪਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ,
In the earth, in the Akaashic ethers, and in the nether regions of the underworld
ਸਰਬਲੋਕਪੂਰਨਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
in all worlds, He is the Perfect Cherisher.
