ਕੋਊਨਰਕਕੋਊਸੁਰਗਬੰਛਾਵਤ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਰਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਗੀ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਬਣਿਆ।
Some have gone to hell, and some yearn for paradise.
ਆਲਜਾਲਮਾਇਆਜੰਜਾਲ॥
ਘਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ,
Worldly snares and entanglements of Maya,
ਹਉਮੈਮੋਹਭਰਮਭੈਭਾਰ॥
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੋਹ, ਭੁਲੇਖੇ, ਡਰ,
egotism, attachment, doubt and loads of fear;
ਦੂਖਸੂਖਮਾਨਅਪਮਾਨ॥
ਦੁੱਖ, ਸੁਖ, ਆਦਰ ਨਿਰਾਦਰੀ-
pain and pleasure, honor and dishonor
ਅਨਿਕਪ੍ਰਕਾਰਕੀਓਬਖੵਾਨ॥
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਚੱਲ ਪਈਆਂ।
these came to be described in various ways.
ਆਪਨਖੇਲੁਆਪਿਕਰਿਦੇਖੈ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself creates and beholds His own drama.
ਖੇਲੁਸੰਕੋਚੈਤਉਨਾਨਕਏਕੈ॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਖੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
He winds up the drama, and then, O Nanak, He alone remains. ||7||
ਜਹਅਬਿਗਤੁਭਗਤੁਤਹਆਪਿ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ ਓਥੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ ਓਥੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ।
Wherever the Eternal Lord's devotee is, He Himself is there.
ਜਹਪਸਰੈਪਾਸਾਰੁਸੰਤਪਰਤਾਪਿ॥
ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
He unfolds the expanse of His creation for the glory of His Saint.
ਦੁਹੂਪਾਖਕਾਆਪਹਿਧਨੀ॥
(ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ-ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ।
He Himself is the Master of both worlds.
ਉਨਕੀਸੋਭਾਉਨਹੂਬਨੀ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
His Praise is to Himself alone.
ਆਪਹਿਕਉਤਕਕਰੈਅਨਦਚੋਜ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਖੇਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself performs and plays His amusements and games.
ਆਪਹਿਰਸਭੋਗਨਨਿਰਜੋਗ॥
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ।
He Himself enjoys pleasures, and yet He is unaffected and untouched.
ਜਿਸੁਭਾਵੈਤਿਸੁਆਪਨਨਾਇਲਾਵੈ॥
ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
He attaches whomever He pleases to His Name.
ਜਿਸੁਭਾਵੈਤਿਸੁਖੇਲਖਿਲਾਵੈ॥
ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਖਿਡਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He causes whomever He pleases to play in His play.
ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰਅਥਾਹਅਗਨਤਅਤੋਲੈ॥
ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ! ਹੇ ਅਥਾਹ! ਹੇ ਅਗਣਤ! ਹੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
He is beyond calculation, beyond measure, uncountable and unfathomable.
ਜਿਉਬੁਲਾਵਹੁਤਿਉਨਾਨਕਦਾਸੁਬੋਲੈ॥੮॥੨੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ (ਇਉਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥੨੧॥
As You inspire him to speak, O Lord, so does servant Nanak speak. ||8||21||

ਜੀਅਜੰਤਕੇਠਾਕੁਰਾਆਪੇਵਰਤਣਹਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਜੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
O Lord and Master of all beings and creatures, You Yourself are prevailing everywhere.
ਨਾਨਕਏਕੋਪਸਰਿਆਦੂਜਾਕਹਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ) ਦੂਜਾ ਕਿਥੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥
O Nanak, The One is All-pervading; where is any other to be seen? ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Ashtapadee:
ਆਪਿਕਥੈਆਪਿਸੁਨਨੈਹਾਰੁ॥
(ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself is the speaker, and He Himself is the listener.
ਆਪਹਿਏਕੁਆਪਿਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ॥
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰਚਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ), ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਮੇਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself is the One, and He Himself is the many.
ਜਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਵੈਤਾਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਉਪਾਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰਚ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
When it pleases Him, He creates the world.
ਆਪਨੈਭਾਣੈਲਏਸਮਾਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਮੇਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As He pleases, He absorbs it back into Himself.
ਤੁਮਤੇਭਿੰਨਨਹੀਕਿਛੁਹੋਇ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
Without You, nothing can be done.
ਆਪਨਸੂਤਿਸਭੁਜਗਤੁਪਰੋਇ॥
ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਧਾਗੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
Upon Your thread, You have strung the whole world.
ਜਾਕਉਪ੍ਰਭਜੀਉਆਪਿਬੁਝਾਏ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਆਪ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦੇ ਹਨ,
One whom God Himself inspires to understand
ਸਚੁਨਾਮੁਸੋਈਜਨੁਪਾਏ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
- that person obtains the True Name.
ਸੋਸਮਦਰਸੀਤਤਕਾਬੇਤਾ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭ ਵਲ ਇਕ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਮਹਰਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He looks impartially upon all, and he knows the essential reality.
ਨਾਨਕਸਗਲਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਕਾਜੇਤਾ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, he conquers the whole world. ||1||
ਜੀਅਜੰਤ੍ਰਸਭਤਾਕੈਹਾਥ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ,
All beings and creatures are in His Hands.
ਦੀਨਦਇਆਲਅਨਾਥਕੋਨਾਥੁ॥
ਉਹ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਅਨਾਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਹੈ।
He is Merciful to the meek, the Patron of the patronless.
ਜਿਸੁਰਾਖੈਤਿਸੁਕੋਇਨਮਾਰੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
No one can kill those who are protected by Him.
ਸੋਮੂਆਜਿਸੁਮਨਹੁਬਿਸਾਰੈ॥
ਮੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਤਾਂ) ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who is forgotten by God, is already dead.
ਤਿਸੁਤਜਿਅਵਰਕਹਾਕੋਜਾਇ॥
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਏ?
Leaving Him, where else could anyone go?
ਸਭਸਿਰਿਏਕੁਨਿਰੰਜਨਰਾਇ॥
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।
Over the heads of all is the One, the Immaculate King.
ਜੀਅਕੀਜੁਗਤਿਜਾਕੈਸਭਹਾਥਿ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਹੈ,
The ways and means of all beings are in His Hands.
ਅੰਤਰਿਬਾਹਰਿਜਾਨਹੁਸਾਥਿ॥
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਜਾਣਹੁ।
Inwardly and outwardly, know that He is with you.
ਗੁਨਨਿਧਾਨਬੇਅੰਤਅਪਾਰ॥
ਜੋ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਹੈ,
He is the Ocean of excellence, infinite and endless.
ਨਾਨਕਦਾਸਸਦਾਬਲਿਹਾਰ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
Slave Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||
ਪੂਰਨਪੂਰਿਰਹੇਦਇਆਲ॥
ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹਨ,
The Perfect, Merciful Lord is pervading everywhere.
ਸਭਊਪਰਿਹੋਵਤਕਿਰਪਾਲ॥
ਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
His kindness extends to all.
ਅਪਨੇਕਰਤਬਜਾਨੈਆਪਿ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੇਲ ਆਪ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself knows His own ways.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀਰਹਿਓਬਿਆਪਿ॥
ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, is present everywhere.
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈਜੀਅਨਬਹੁਭਾਤਿ॥
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
He cherishes His living beings in so many ways.
ਜੋਜੋਰਚਿਓਸੁਤਿਸਹਿਧਿਆਤਿ॥
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
That which He has created meditates on Him.
ਜਿਸੁਭਾਵੈਤਿਸੁਲਏਮਿਲਾਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੁੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Whoever pleases Him, He blends into Himself.
ਭਗਤਿਕਰਹਿਹਰਿਕੇਗੁਣਗਾਇ॥
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੁੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They perform His devotional service and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਮਨਅੰਤਰਿਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁਕਰਿਮਾਨਿਆ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੱਚਮੁਚ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
With heart-felt faith, they believe in Him.
ਕਰਨਹਾਰੁਨਾਨਕਇਕੁਜਾਨਿਆ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
O Nanak, they realize the One, the Creator Lord. ||3||
ਜਨੁਲਾਗਾਹਰਿਏਕੈਨਾਇ॥
(ਜੋ) ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
The Lord's humble servant is committed to His Name.
ਤਿਸਕੀਆਸਨਬਿਰਥੀਜਾਇ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਦੇ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
His hopes do not go in vain.
ਸੇਵਕਕਉਸੇਵਾਬਨਿਆਈ॥
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਫੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ।
The servant's purpose is to serve;
ਹੁਕਮੁਬੂਝਿਪਰਮਪਦੁਪਾਈ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
obeying the Lord's Command, the supreme status is obtained.
ਇਸਤੇਊਪਰਿਨਹੀਬੀਚਾਰੁ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ;
Beyond this, he has no other thought.
ਜਾਕੈਮਨਿਬਸਿਆਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
Within his mind, the Formless Lord abides.
ਬੰਧਨਤੋਰਿਭਏਨਿਰਵੈਰ॥
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
His bonds are cut away, and he becomes free of hatred.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁਪੂਜਹਿਗੁਰਕੇਪੈਰ॥
ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਹਨ।
Night and day, he worships the Feet of the Guru.
ਇਹਲੋਕਸੁਖੀਏਪਰਲੋਕਸੁਹੇਲੇ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖੀ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਸੌਖੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
He is at peace in this world, and happy in the next.
