ਅਪਨੀਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਜਿਸੁਆਪਿਕਰੇਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself grants His Grace;
ਨਾਨਕਸੋਸੇਵਕੁਗੁਰਕੀਮਤਿਲੇਇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, that selfless servant lives the Guru's Teachings. ||2||
ਬੀਸਬਿਸਵੇਗੁਰਕਾਮਨੁਮਾਨੈ॥
ਜੋ ਸੇਵਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਦਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਯਕੀਨ ਦਿਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who obeys the Guru's Teachings one hundred per cent
ਸੋਸੇਵਕੁਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਕੀਗਤਿਜਾਨੈ॥
ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
that selfless servant comes to know the state of the Transcendent Lord.
ਸੋਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਜਿਸੁਰਿਦੈਹਰਿਨਾਉ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
The True Guru's Heart is filled with the Name of the Lord.
ਅਨਿਕਬਾਰਗੁਰਕਉਬਲਿਜਾਉ॥
(ਮੈਂ ਐਸੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਕਈ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
So many times, I am a sacrifice to the Guru.
ਸਰਬਨਿਧਾਨਜੀਅਕਾਦਾਤਾ॥
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
He is the treasure of everything, the Giver of life.
ਆਠਪਹਰਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਰੰਗਿਰਾਤਾ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Twenty-four hours a day, He is imbued with the Love of the Supreme Lord God.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਮਹਿਜਨੁਜਨਮਹਿਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਸੇਵਕ-(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕ-ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੈ),
The servant is in God, and God is in the servant.
ਏਕਹਿਆਪਿਨਹੀਕਛੁਭਰਮੁ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ।
He Himself is One - there is no doubt about this.
ਸਹਸਸਿਆਨਪਲਇਆਨਜਾਈਐ॥
ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
By thousands of clever tricks, He is not found.
ਨਾਨਕਐਸਾਗੁਰੁਬਡਭਾਗੀਪਾਈਐ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
O Nanak, such a Guru is obtained by the greatest good fortune. ||3||
ਸਫਲਦਰਸਨੁਪੇਖਤਪੁਨੀਤ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
Blessed is His Darshan; receiving it, one is purified.
ਪਰਸਤਚਰਨਗਤਿਨਿਰਮਲਰੀਤਿ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਛੋਹਿਆਂ ਉਚੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਰਹੁ-ਰੀਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Touching His Feet, one's conduct and lifestyle become pure.
ਭੇਟਤਸੰਗਿਰਾਮਗੁਨਰਵੇ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕੀਦੇ ਹਨ,
Abiding in His Company, one chants the Lord's Praise,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਕੀਦਰਗਹਗਵੇ॥
ਤੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
and reaches the Court of the Supreme Lord God.
ਸੁਨਿਕਰਿਬਚਨਕਰਨਆਘਾਨੇ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕੰਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Listening to His Teachings, one's ears are satisfied.
ਮਨਿਸੰਤੋਖੁਆਤਮਪਤੀਆਨੇ॥
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mind is contented, and the soul is fulfilled.
ਪੂਰਾਗੁਰੁਅਖੵਓਜਾਕਾਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ,
The Guru is perfect; His Teachings are everlasting.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਪੇਖੈਹੋਇਸੰਤੁ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਵਲ) ਅਮਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Beholding His Ambrosial Glance, one becomes saintly.
ਗੁਣਬਿਅੰਤਕੀਮਤਿਨਹੀਪਾਇ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹਨ, ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
Endless are His virtuous qualities; His worth cannot be appraised.
ਨਾਨਕਜਿਸੁਭਾਵੈਤਿਸੁਲਏਮਿਲਾਇ॥੪॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਜੀਵ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
O Nanak, one who pleases Him is united with Him. ||4||
ਜਿਹਬਾਏਕਉਸਤਤਿਅਨੇਕ॥
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਜੀਭ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ,
The tongue is one, but His Praises are many.
ਸਤਿਪੁਰਖਪੂਰਨਬਿਬੇਕ॥
ਜੋ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
The True Lord, of perfect perfection
ਕਾਹੂਬੋਲਨਪਹੁਚਤਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ॥
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਬੋਲ ਦੁਆਰਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤਕ) ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
- no speech can take the mortal to Him.
ਅਗਮਅਗੋਚਰਪ੍ਰਭਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ।
God is Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, balanced in the state of Nirvaanaa.
ਨਿਰਾਹਾਰਨਿਰਵੈਰਸੁਖਦਾਈ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ (ਸਗੋਂ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
He is not sustained by food; He has no hatred or vengeance; He is the Giver of peace.
ਤਾਕੀਕੀਮਤਿਕਿਨੈਨਪਾਈ॥
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
No one can estimate His worth.
ਅਨਿਕਭਗਤਬੰਦਨਨਿਤਕਰਹਿ॥
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Countless devotees continually bow in reverence to Him.
ਚਰਨਕਮਲਹਿਰਦੈਸਿਮਰਹਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ (ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
In their hearts, they meditate on His Lotus Feet.
ਸਦਬਲਿਹਾਰੀਸਤਿਗੁਰਅਪਨੇ॥
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ,
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the True Guru;
ਨਾਨਕਜਿਸੁਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਐਸਾਪ੍ਰਭੁਜਪਨੇ॥੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਪ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
by His Grace, he meditates on God. ||5||
ਇਹੁਹਰਿਰਸੁਪਾਵੈਜਨੁਕੋਇ॥
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
Only a few obtain this ambrosial essence of the Lord's Name.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਪੀਵੈਅਮਰੁਸੋਹੋਇ॥
(ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Drinking in this Nectar, one becomes immortal.
ਉਸੁਪੁਰਖਕਾਨਾਹੀਕਦੇਬਿਨਾਸੁ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ)
That person whose mind is illuminated
ਜਾਕੈਮਨਿਪ੍ਰਗਟੇਗੁਨਤਾਸ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
by the treasure of excellence, never dies.
ਆਠਪਹਰਹਰਿਕਾਨਾਮੁਲੇਇ॥
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Twenty-four hours a day, he takes the Name of the Lord.
ਸਚੁਉਪਦੇਸੁਸੇਵਕਕਉਦੇਇ॥
ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord gives true instruction to His servant.
ਮੋਹਮਾਇਆਕੈਸੰਗਿਨਲੇਪੁ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਜੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ,
He is not polluted by emotional attachment to Maya.
ਮਨਮਹਿਰਾਖੈਹਰਿਹਰਿਏਕੁ॥
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In his mind, he cherishes the One Lord, Har, Har.
ਅੰਧਕਾਰਦੀਪਕਪਰਗਾਸੇ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) (ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਦੀਵੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਹਟ ਕੇ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the pitch darkness, a lamp shines forth.
ਨਾਨਕਭਰਮਮੋਹਦੁਖਤਹਤੇਨਾਸੇ॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ (ਕਾਰਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
O Nanak, doubt, emotional attachment and pain are erased. ||6||
ਤਪਤਿਮਾਹਿਠਾਢਿਵਰਤਾਈ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਤਪਸ਼ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਠੰਢ ਵਰਤਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
In the burning heat, a soothing coolness prevails.
ਅਨਦੁਭਇਆਦੁਖਨਾਠੇਭਾਈ॥
ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖ ਨੱਸ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
Happiness ensues and pain departs, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਜਨਮਮਰਨਕੇਮਿਟੇਅੰਦੇਸੇ॥
ਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ (ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਣ ਦੇ) ਡਰ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
The fear of birth and death is dispelled,
ਸਾਧੂਕੇਪੂਰਨਉਪਦੇਸੇ॥
ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
by the perfect Teachings of the Holy Saint.
ਭਉਚੂਕਾਨਿਰਭਉਹੋਇਬਸੇ॥
(ਸਾਰਾ) ਡਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਨਿਡਰ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਾਂ,
Fear is lifted, and one abides in fearlessness.
ਸਗਲਬਿਆਧਿਮਨਤੇਖੈਨਸੇ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਨੋਂ ਵਿਸਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
All evils are dispelled from the mind.
ਜਿਸਕਾਸਾਤਿਨਿਕਿਰਪਾਧਾਰੀ॥
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਸਾਂ, ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ;
He takes us into His favor as His own.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਜਪਿਨਾਮੁਮੁਰਾਰੀ॥
ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ,
In the Company of the Holy, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਥਿਤਿਪਾਈਚੂਕੇਭ੍ਰਮਗਵਨ॥
ਤੇ (ਅਸਾਂ) ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਸਾਡੇ) ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Stability is attained; doubt and wandering cease,
ਸੁਨਿਨਾਨਕਹਰਿਹਰਿਜਸੁਸ੍ਰਵਨ॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਕੰਨੀਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਇਹ ਭਰਮੳ ਅਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ) ॥੭॥
O Nanak, listening with one's ears to the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||7||
ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁਆਪਿਸਰਗੁਨੁਭੀਓਹੀ॥
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
He Himself is absolute and unrelated; He Himself is also involved and related.
ਕਲਾਧਾਰਿਜਿਨਿਸਗਲੀਮੋਹੀ॥
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਕਾਇਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਹੈ।
Manifesting His power, He fascinates the entire world.
ਅਪਨੇਚਰਿਤਪ੍ਰਭਿਆਪਿਬਨਾਏ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੇਲ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ,
God Himself sets His play in motion.
ਅਪੁਨੀਕੀਮਤਿਆਪੇਪਾਏ॥
ਆਪਣੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Only He Himself can estimate His worth.
ਹਰਿਬਿਨੁਦੂਜਾਨਾਹੀਕੋਇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
There is none, other than the Lord.
ਸਰਬਨਿਰੰਤਰਿਏਕੋਸੋਇ॥
ਸਭ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮੌਜੂਦ) ਹੈ।
Permeating all, He is the One.
ਓਤਿਪੋਤਿਰਵਿਆਰੂਪਰੰਗ॥
ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਤੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ;
