ਤਿਸਕਾਨਾਮੁਸਤਿਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਸਲੀ (ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ) 'ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ' (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ) ਹੈ;
- his name is truly Ram Das, the Lord's servant.
ਆਤਮਰਾਮੁਤਿਸੁਨਦਰੀਆਇਆ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He comes to have the Vision of the Lord, the Supreme Soul.
ਦਾਸਦਸੰਤਣਭਾਇਤਿਨਿਪਾਇਆ॥
ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ।
Deeming himself to be the slave of the Lord's slaves, he obtains it.
ਸਦਾਨਿਕਟਿਨਿਕਟਿਹਰਿਜਾਨੁ॥
ਜੋ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
He knows the Lord to be Ever-present, close at hand.
ਸੋਦਾਸੁਦਰਗਹਪਰਵਾਨੁ॥
ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Such a servant is honored in the Court of the Lord.
ਅਪੁਨੇਦਾਸਕਉਆਪਿਕਿਰਪਾਕਰੈ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਉਤੇ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
To His servant, He Himself shows His Mercy.
ਤਿਸੁਦਾਸਕਉਸਭਸੋਝੀਪਰੈ॥
ਤੇ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Such a servant understands everything.
ਸਗਲਸੰਗਿਆਤਮਉਦਾਸੁ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
Amidst all, his soul is unattached.
ਐਸੀਜੁਗਤਿਨਾਨਕਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਜੁਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ (ਅਸਲੀ) "ਰਾਮਦਾਸ" (ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੬॥
Such is the way, O Nanak, of the Lord's servant. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭਕੀਆਗਿਆਆਤਮਹਿਤਾਵੈ॥
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who, in his soul, loves the Will of God,
ਜੀਵਨਮੁਕਤਿਸੋਊਕਹਾਵੈ॥
ਉਹੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
is said to be Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive.
ਤੈਸਾਹਰਖੁਤੈਸਾਉਸੁਸੋਗੁ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ,
As is joy, so is sorrow to him.
ਸਦਾਅਨੰਦੁਤਹਨਹੀਬਿਓਗੁ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਓਥੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
He is in eternal bliss, and is not separated from God.
ਤੈਸਾਸੁਵਰਨੁਤੈਸੀਉਸੁਮਾਟੀ॥
ਸੋਨਾ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ (ਭੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੋਨਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸਦਾ),
As is gold, so is dust to him.
ਤੈਸਾਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਤੈਸੀਬਿਖੁਖਾਟੀ॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੇ ਕਉੜੀ ਵਿਹੁ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਜੈਸੀ ਹੈ।
As is ambrosial nectar, so is bitter poison to him.
ਤੈਸਾਮਾਨੁਤੈਸਾਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ॥
(ਕਿਸੇ ਵਲੋਂ) ਆਦਰ (ਦਾ ਵਰਤਾਉ ਹੋਵੇ) ਜਾਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਦਾ) (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ,
As is honor, so is dishonor.
ਤੈਸਾਰੰਕੁਤੈਸਾਰਾਜਾਨੁ॥
ਕੰਗਾਲ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਨਸ਼ਾਹ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ।
As is the beggar, so is the king.
ਜੋਵਰਤਾਏਸਾਈਜੁਗਤਿ॥
ਜੋ (ਰਜ਼ਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਵਰਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ (ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਗਾਡੀ-ਰਾਹ ਹੈ;
Whatever God ordains, that is his way.
ਨਾਨਕਓਹੁਪੁਰਖੁਕਹੀਐਜੀਵਨਮੁਕਤਿ॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
O Nanak, that being is known as Jivan Mukta. ||7||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਕੇਸਗਲੇਠਾਉ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਥਾਂ (ਸਰੀਰ-ਰੂਪ ਘਰ) ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ,
All places belong to the Supreme Lord God.
ਜਿਤੁਜਿਤੁਘਰਿਰਾਖੈਤੈਸਾਤਿਨਨਾਉ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ (ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
According to the homes in which they are placed, so are His creatures named.
ਆਪੇਕਰਨਕਰਾਵਨਜੋਗੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰਨ ਦੀ (ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself is the Doer, the Cause of causes.
ਪ੍ਰਭਭਾਵੈਸੋਈਫੁਨਿਹੋਗੁ॥
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Whatever pleases God, ultimately comes to pass.
ਪਸਰਿਓਆਪਿਹੋਇਅਨਤਤਰੰਗ॥
(ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀਆਂ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਬਣ ਕੇ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਆਪ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,
He Himself is All-pervading, in endless waves.
ਲਖੇਨਜਾਹਿਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਕੇਰੰਗ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਖੇਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ।
The playful sport of the Supreme Lord God cannot be known.
ਜੈਸੀਮਤਿਦੇਇਤੈਸਾਪਰਗਾਸੁ॥
ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਜ਼ਹੂਰ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
As the understanding is given, so is one enlightened.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਕਰਤਾਅਬਿਨਾਸ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ (ਆਪ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
The Supreme Lord God, the Creator, is eternal and everlasting.
ਸਦਾਸਦਾਸਦਾਦਇਆਲ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
Forever, forever and ever, He is merciful.
ਸਿਮਰਿਸਿਮਰਿਨਾਨਕਭਏਨਿਹਾਲ॥੮॥੯॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਫੁੱਲ ਵਾਂਗ) ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥੯॥
Remembering Him, remembering Him in meditation, O Nanak, one is blessed with ecstasy. ||8||9||
ਸਲੋਕੁ॥
Shalok:
ਉਸਤਤਿਕਰਹਿਅਨੇਕਜਨਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ॥
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਦ-ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
Many people praise the Lord. He has no end or limitation.
ਨਾਨਕਰਚਨਾਪ੍ਰਭਿਰਚੀਬਹੁਬਿਧਿਅਨਿਕਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹੀ ਸਾਰੀ) ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ (ਉਸ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, God created the creation, with its many ways and various species. ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Ashtapadee:
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਹੋਏਪੂਜਾਰੀ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ) ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪੁਜਾਰੀ ਹਨ,
Many millions are His devotees.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਆਚਾਰਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰੀਤਾਂ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ;
Many millions perform religious rituals and worldly duties.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਭਏਤੀਰਥਵਾਸੀ॥
ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ (ਬੰਦੇ) ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਸਨੀਕ ਹਨ,
Many millions become dwellers at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਬਨਭ੍ਰਮਹਿਉਦਾਸੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ (ਜਗਤ ਵਲੋਂ) ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ;
Many millions wander as renunciates in the wilderness.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਬੇਦਕੇਸ੍ਰੋਤੇ॥
ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ,
Many millions listen to the Vedas.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਤਪੀਸੁਰਹੋਤੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਤਪੀਏ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ;
Many millions become austere penitents.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਆਤਮਧਿਆਨੁਧਾਰਹਿ॥
ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
Many millions enshrine meditation within their souls.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਕਬਿਕਾਬਿਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਕਵੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਚੀਆਂ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ;
Many millions of poets contemplate Him through poetry.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਨਵਤਨਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਵਹਿ॥
ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਿੱਤ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Many millions meditate on His eternally new Naam.
ਨਾਨਕਕਰਤੇਕਾਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਵਹਿ॥੧॥
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, none can find the limits of the Creator. ||1||
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਭਏਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ॥
(ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਵਿਚ) ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਹਨ,
Many millions become self-centered.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਅੰਧਅਗਿਆਨੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਪੁੱਜ ਕੇ ਜਾਹਿਲ ਹਨ;
Many millions are blinded by ignorance.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਕਿਰਪਨਕਠੋਰ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸ਼ੂਮ ਤੇ ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲ ਹਨ,
Many millions are stone-hearted misers.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਅਭਿਗਆਤਮਨਿਕੋਰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਹਾ ਕੋਰੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਕਦੇ) ਪਸੀਜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ;
Many millions are heartless, with dry, withered souls.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਪਰਦਰਬਕਉਹਿਰਹਿ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਚੁਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Many millions steal the wealth of others.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਪਰਦੂਖਨਾਕਰਹਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ;
Many millions slander others.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਮਾਇਆਸ੍ਰਮਮਾਹਿ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਧਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ (ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਮੇਹਨਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
Many millions struggle in Maya.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਪਰਦੇਸਭ੍ਰਮਾਹਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ;
Many millions wander in foreign lands.
ਜਿਤੁਜਿਤੁਲਾਵਹੁਤਿਤੁਤਿਤੁਲਗਨਾ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਆਹਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਉਸ ਆਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
Whatever God attaches them to - with that they are engaged.
ਨਾਨਕਕਰਤੇਕੀਜਾਨੈਕਰਤਾਰਚਨਾ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ (ਦਾ ਭੇਤ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, the Creator alone knows the workings of His creation. ||2||
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਸਿਧਜਤੀਜੋਗੀ॥
(ਇਸ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਿ-ਰਚਨਾ ਵਿਚ) ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ, ਤੇ ਕਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਹਨ,
Many millions are Siddhas, celibates and Yogis.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਰਾਜੇਰਸਭੋਗੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਹਨ;
Many millions are kings, enjoying worldly pleasures.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਪੰਖੀਸਰਪਉਪਾਏ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਪੰਛੀ ਤੇ ਸੱਪ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ,
Many millions of birds and snakes have been created.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਪਾਥਰਬਿਰਖਨਿਪਜਾਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੱਥਰ ਤੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਗਾਏ ਹਨ;
Many millions of stones and trees have been produced.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਪਵਣਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਅੱਗਾਂ ਹਨ,
Many millions are the winds, waters and fires.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਦੇਸਭੂਮੰਡਲ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਦੇਸ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਹਨ;
Many millions are the countries and realms of the world.
ਕਈਕੋਟਿਸਸੀਅਰਸੂਰਨਖੵਤ੍ਰ॥
ਕਈ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਂ, ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਹਨ,
Many millions are the moons, suns and stars.
