ਬਿਸਨਨਾਰਿਕੇਧਾਮਿਛੁਧਾਤੁਰ॥
ਉਥੇ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
At the same time, the great sage Narada reached the house of Vishnu and he was very hungry.
ਬੈਗਨਨਿਰਖਿਅਧਿਕਲਲਚਾਯੋ॥
ਬੈਂਗਣ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਲਚਾਇਆ। (ਉਹ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ
ਮਾਗਰਹਿਯੋਪਰਹਾਥਿਨਆਯੋ॥੬॥
ਪਰ (ਬੈਂਗਣ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ॥੬॥
Seeing the cooked vegetable of brinjals, his mind was tempted, but he did not get it even on asking for it.6.
ਨਾਥਹੇਤੁਮੈਭੋਜਪਕਾਯੋ॥
(ਲੱਛਮੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ-) ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲਈ ਭੋਜਨ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ
ਮਨੁਛਪਠੈਕਰਬਿਸਨੁਬੁਲਾਯੋ॥
ਪਰ ਬੰਦਾ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ ਨੂੰ (ਦੈਂਤ ਸਭਾ ਨੇ) ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The wife of Vishnu said that she had prepared that food for her lord, therefore it was not possible for her to give it, (she also said:) “I have sent a messenger to call him and the may be coming.”
ਨਾਰਦਖਾਇਜੂਠਹੋਇਜੈਹੈ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਰਦ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਖਾ ਲਏਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ (ਭੋਜਨ) ਜੂਠਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ
ਪੀਅਕੋਪਿਤਹਮਰੇਪਰਹੁਐਹੈ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੭॥
The wife of Vishnu thought that if Narada partook it the food would become impure and her lord wound be angry with.7.
ਨਾਰਦਬਾਚ॥
ਨਾਰਦ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ:
Narada said :
ਮਾਗਥਕਿਯੋਮੁਨਿਭੋਜਨਦੀਆ॥
ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨੀ ਮੰਗ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਥਕ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਨੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਅਧਿਕਰੋਸੁਮੁਨਿਬਰਿਤਬਕੀਆ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਮਹਾਮੁਨੀ (ਨਾਰਦ) ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਕੀਤਾ (ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਰਾਪ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
“The sage had been repeatedly asking for the food, but you did not give it to him.”
ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦਾਨਾਮਰਾਛਸੀਬਪੁਧਰਿ॥
"ਹੇ ਲੱਛਮੀ! ਤੂੰ) ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖਸ਼ੀ ਦੇਹ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ
ਤ੍ਰੀਆਹੁਐਬਸੋਜਲੰਧਰਕੇਘਰਿ॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਸ ॥੮॥
The sage flew into rage and said : “You will live in the house of the demon Jalandhar as wife named Varinda, after getting her body.”8.
ਦੇਕਰਸ੍ਰਾਪਜਾਤਭਯੋਰਿਖਿਬਰ॥
ਮਹਾਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਰਦ ਸ਼ਰਾਪ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਆਵਤਭਯੋਬਿਸਨਤਾਕੇਘਰਿ॥
ਉਧਰੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
No sooner than the sage departed after cursing her, Vishnu reached his home:
ਸੁਨਤਸ੍ਰਾਪਅਤਿਹੀਦੁਖਪਾਯੋ॥
(ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ) ਸ਼ਰਾਪ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ,
ਬਿਹਸਬਚਨਤ੍ਰੀਯਸੰਗਿਸੁਨਾਯੋ॥੯॥
(ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ ਨੇ ਹਸ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਧੀਰਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੯॥
Hearing about the curse, he was greatly agonised and his wife smilingly confirmed (what the sage had said).9.

ਤ੍ਰੀਯਕੀਛਾਯਾਲੈਤਬੈਬ੍ਰਿਦਾਰਚੀਬਨਾਇ॥
(ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ ਨੇ) ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੀ ਪਰਛਾਈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ
Then Vishnu created Varinda from the shadow of his wife.
ਧੂਮ੍ਰਕੇਸਦਾਨਵਸਦਨਿਜਨਮਧਰਤਭਈਜਾਇ॥੧੦॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦਾ ਨੇ) ਧੂਮ੍ਰਕੇਸ ਦਾਨਵ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧੦॥
She took birth on the earth in the house of the demon Dhumarkesh.10.

ਜੈਸਕਰਹਤਕਮਲਜਲਭੀਤਰ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਲ (ਨਿਰਲੇਪ) ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਪੁਨਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਬਸੀਜਲੰਧਰਕੇਘਰਿ॥
ਉਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਧੂਮ੍ਰਕੇਸ ਦੈਂਤ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਵਸੀ।
Just as the lotus-leaf in water remains unaffected by the drops of water, in the same manner, Varinda lived in the house of Jalandhar as his wife.
ਤਿਹਨਿਮਿਤਜਲੰਧਰਅਵਤਾਰਾ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਉੱਧਾਰ) ਵਾਸਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦਾ
ਧਰਹੈਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਮੁਰਾਰਾ॥੧੧॥
ਅਨੂਪ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨਗੇ ॥੧੧॥
And for her Vishnu manifested himself as Jalandhar and in this way, Vishnu assumed a unique form.11.
ਕਥਾਐਸਇਹਦਿਸਮੋਭਈ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਇਧਰ ਹੋਈ,
ਅਬਚਲਿਬਾਤਰੁਦ੍ਰਪਰਗਈ॥
ਹੁਣ ਗੱਲ ਰੁਦਰ ਵਲ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੀ।
In this way, the story heath taken a new turn and now it hath halted on Rudra.
ਮਾਗੀਨਾਰਿਨਦੀਨੀਰੁਦ੍ਰਾ॥
(ਜਲੰਧਰ ਨੇ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਮੰਗੀ, ਪਰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੇ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਤਾਤੇਕੋਪਅਸੁਰਪਤਿਛੁਦ੍ਰਾ॥੧੨॥
ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਝਟ ਪਟ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
The demon Jalandhar asked for his wife from Ruda and Rudra did not oblige him, therefore the king of demons flew into rage instantly.12.
ਬਜੇਢੋਲਨਫੀਰਿਨਗਾਰੇ॥
ਢੋਲ, ਤੂਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵਜੇ,
ਦੁਹੂੰਦਿਸਾਡਮਰੂਡਮਕਾਰੇ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਡੌਰੂ ਡੰਮ ਡੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ।
The trumpets and drums resounded on all the four sides and the knocking sound of tabors was heard from all the four directions.
ਮਾਚਤਭਯੋਲੋਹਬਿਕਰਾਰਾ॥
ਵੱਡਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚਿਆ,
ਝਮਕਤਖਗਅਦਗਅਪਾਰਾ॥੧੩॥
(ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ) ਵੱਡੀ ਚਮਕ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਖੜਗ ਚਮਕਣ ਲਗੇ ॥੧੩॥
The steel collided with the steel dreadfully and the daggers glittered with infinite beauty.13.
ਗਿਰਿਗਿਰਿਪਰਤਸੁਭਟਰਣਮਾਹੀ॥
ਸੂਰਮੇ ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਡਿਗ ਡਿਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਸਨ,
ਧੁਕਧੁਕਉਠਤਮਸਾਣਤਹਾਹੀ॥
ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਧੁੱਖ ਧੁੱਖ ਕੇ ਮਸਾਣ ਉਠਦੇ ਸਨ।
The warriors began to fall in the battlefield and the ghosts and fiends began to run on all the four sides.
ਗਜੀਰਥੀਬਾਜੀਪੈਦਲਰਣਿ॥
ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਰ, ਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਰ, ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪੈਦਲ (ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਜੰਗ (ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)
ਜੂਝਿਗਿਰੇਰਣਕੀਛਿਤਿਅਨਗਣ॥੧੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ (ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੂਝ ਕੇ ਡਿਗ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੪॥
The innumerable riders of elephants, chariots and horses began to fall as martyrs in the battlefield.14.

ਬਿਰਚੇਰਣਬੀਰਸੁਧੀਰਕ੍ਰੁਧੰ॥
ਧੀਰਜ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਮਚਿਯੋਤਿਹਦਾਰੁਣਭੂਮਿਜੁਧੰ॥
ਉਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
The warriors moved in the battlefield in great anger and a dreadful war began.
ਹਹਰੰਤਹਯੰਗਰਜੰਤਗਜੰ॥
ਘੋੜੇ ਹਿਣਕਦੇ ਸਨ, ਹਾਥੀ ਚਿੰਘਾੜਦੇ ਸਨ,
ਸੁਣਿਕੈਧੁਨਿਸਾਵਣਮੇਘਲਜੰ॥੧੫॥
ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਬਦਲ ਲੱਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੫॥
Hearing the neighing of horses and the trumpeting of the elephants, the clouds of Sawan felt shy.15.
ਬਰਖੈਰਣਿਬਾਣਕਮਾਣਖਗੰ॥
ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਮਾਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਤੀਰ ਵਰ੍ਹਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਤਹਘੋਰਭਯਾਨਕਜੁਧਜਗੰ॥
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਘੋਰ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਯੁੱਧ (ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ)।
The arrows and the swords were showered in the war and in this may this war was a dreadful and horrible war.
ਗਿਰਜਾਤਭਟੰਹਹਰੰਤਹਠੀ॥
ਸੂਰਮੇ ਡਿਗਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਹਠੀ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਘਬਰਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਉਮਗੀਰਿਪੁਸੈਨਕੀਏਇਕਠੀ॥੧੬॥
ਵੈਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਖਿੰਡੀ-ਪੁੰਡੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੬॥
The warriors fall, but in their persistence, they raise dreadful sound. In this way, the forces of the enemy, gathered quickly from all the four sides in the battlefield.16.
ਚਹੂੰਓਰਘਿਰਿਯੋਸਰਸੋਧਿਸਿਵੰ॥
ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਘੇਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਕਰਿਕੋਪਘਨੋਅਸੁਰਾਰਇਵੰ॥
ਦੈਂਤ ਰਾਜੇ (ਜਲੰਧਰ) ਨੇ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
Having been besieged from all the for sides, held his arrow and flew into rage over the demons.
ਦੁਹੂੰਓਰਨਤੇਇਮਬਾਣਬਹੇ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਇੰਜ ਤੀਰ ਚਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ
