ਕਿਤੇ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਵਚ ਕਟੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ ॥੮॥੨੬੧॥
Somewhere the armours of elephants and horses were cut down.8.261.
ਜੁਗਨਦੇਤਕਹੂੰਕਿਲਕਾਰੀ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਕਲਜੋਗਣਾਂ ਕਿਲਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਾਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
Somewhere the vamps were raising joyful shrieks
ਨਾਚਤਭੂਤਬਜਾਵਤਤਾਰੀ॥
(ਕਿਤੇ) ਭੂਤ ਤਾੜੀਆਂ ਵਜਾ ਕੇ ਨਚ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Somewhere the ghosts were dancing, while clapping their hands
ਬਾਵਨਬੀਰਫਿਰੈਚਹੂੰਓਰਾ॥
ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੇ ਬਵੰਜਾ ਬੀਰ ਫਿਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The fifty-two heroic spirits were wandering in all the four directions
ਬਾਜਤਮਾਰੂਰਾਗਸਿਦਉਰਾ॥੯॥੨੬੨॥
ਮਾਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਦੂਰੀਆ ਰਾਗ ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੯॥੨੬੨॥
Maru musical mode was being played.9.262.
ਰਣਅਸਕਾਲਜਲਧਜਿਮਗਾਜਾ॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਲ ਇੰਜ (ਗੱਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ) ਮਾਨੋ ਬਦਲ ਗੱਜਦੇ ਹੋਣ।
The war was waged so violently as if the ocean was thundering
ਭੂਤਪਿਸਾਚਭੀਰਭੈਭਾਜਾ॥
ਡਰ ਨਾਲ ਭੂਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਸ਼ਾਚਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੀੜ ਭਜ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।
The gathering of ghosts and goblins ran away in great feat.
ਰਣਮਾਰੂਇਹਦਿਸਤੇਬਾਜ੍ਯੋ॥
ਇਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰੂ ਰਾਗ ਵਜਿਆ
The Maru Raga was played from this side,
ਕਾਇਰੁਹੁਤੋਸੋਭੀਨਹਿਭਾਜ੍ਯੋ॥੧੦॥੨੬੩॥
(ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਯੁੱਧ ਦਾ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਚਾਓ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਕਿ ਜੋ) ਕਾਇਰ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਭਜੇ ॥੧੦॥੨੬੩॥
Which made even the cowards so courageous that they did not run away form the battlefield.10.263.
ਰਹਿਗਈਸੂਰਨਖਗਕੀਟੇਕਾ॥
ਸ਼ੂਰਵੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਟੇਕ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ।
The support of the sword remained only with the warriors.
ਕਟਿਗਏਸੁੰਡਭਸੁੰਡਅਨੇਕਾ॥
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੁੰਡ ਕਟ ਗਏ।
The trunks of many elephants were chopped off.
ਨਾਚਤਜੋਗਨਕਹੂੰਬਿਤਾਰਾ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਜੋਗਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਤਾਲ ਨਚਣ ਲਗੇ।
Somewhere the vamps and Baitals danced.
ਧਾਵਤਭੂਤਪ੍ਰੇਤਬਿਕਰਾਰਾ॥੧੧॥੨੬੪॥
ਭਿਆਨਕ ਭੂਤ-ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਭਜਣ ਲਗੇ ॥੧੧॥੨੬੪॥
Somewhere the terrible ghosts and goblins were running here and there.11.264.
ਧਾਵਤਅਧਕਮਧਅਨੇਕਾ॥
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਅੱਧੇ ਅੱਧੇ ਧੜ ਦੌੜ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Many trunks cut into halves were running.
ਮੰਡਿਰਹੇਰਾਵਤਗਡਿਟੇਕਾ॥
ਰਜਵਾੜੇ ਲੜ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਂਤੜੇ ਪੱਕੇ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The princes were fighting and were stabilizing their positions.
ਅਨਹਦਰਾਗਅਨਾਹਦਬਾਜਾ॥
ਅਨਹਦ ਰਾਗ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਵਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ
The musical modes were played with such intensity,
ਕਾਇਰੁਹੁਤਾਵਹੈਨਹੀਭਾਜਾ॥੧੨॥੨੬੫॥
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਜੋ) ਕਾਇਰ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਜਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੨॥੨੬੫॥
That even the cowards did not run away from the field.12.265.
ਮੰਦਰਤੂਰਕਰੂਰਕਰੋਰਾ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਢੋਲ, ਤੂਰ ਆਦਿ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਜਣ ਲਗੇ
Million of drums and musical instruments sounded.
ਗਾਜਸਰਾਵਤਰਾਗਸੰਦੋਰਾ॥
(ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਸੰਦੂਰੀਆ ਰਾਗ ਦੀ ਗਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
The elephants also joined this music with their trumpets.
ਝਮਕਸਿਦਾਮਨਜਿਮਕਰਵਾਰਾ॥
ਬਿਜਲੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਚਮਕਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
The swords gleamed like lightning,
ਬਰਸਤਬਾਨਨਮੇਘਅਪਾਰਾ॥੧੩॥੨੬੬॥
ਬਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਪਾਰ ਮੀਂਹ ਵਰ੍ਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੩॥੨੬੬॥
And the shafts came like rain from clouds.13.266.
ਘੂਮਹਿਘਾਇਲਲੋਹਚੁਚਾਤੇ॥
ਲਹੂ ਚੌਂਦੇ ਘਾਇਲ (ਇੰਜ) ਘੁੰਮ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ
The wounded warriors with dripping blood revolved,
ਖੇਲਬਸੰਤਮਨੋਮਦਮਾਤੇ॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਵਿਚ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹੋਣ।
As if the intoxicated persons are playing Holi.
ਗਿਰਗਏਕਹੂੰਜਿਰਹਅਰੁਜੁਆਨਾ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਕਵਚ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਡਿਗੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ।
Somewhere the armour and the warriors had fallen
ਗਰਜਨਗਿਧਪੁਕਾਰਤਸੁਆਨਾ॥੧੪॥੨੬੭॥
(ਕਿਤੇ) ਗਿਰਝਾਂ ਗਰਜਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ (ਕਿਤੇ) ਕੁੱਤੇ ਭੌਂਕਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੪॥੨੬੭॥
Somewhere the vultures shrieked and the dogs barked.14.267.
ਉਨਦਲਦੁਹੂੰਭਾਇਨਕੋਭਾਜਾ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਭਜ ਗਈ।
The forces of both the brothers ran helter and skelter.
ਠਾਂਢਨਸਕਿਯੋਰੰਕੁਅਰੁਰਾਜਾ॥
(ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਕੋਈ ਅਮੀਰ ਗਰੀਬ ਠਹਿਰ ਨਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
No pauper and king could stand there (before Ajai Singh).
ਤਕਿਓਓਡਛਾਦੇਸੁਬਿਚਛਨ॥
(ਸਭ ਨੇ) ਸੁੰਦਰ ਉੜੀਸਾ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਲਈ
The running kings with their forces entered the beautiful country of Orissa,
ਰਾਜਾਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਤਿਲਕਸੁਭਲਛਨ॥੧੫॥੨੬੮॥
(ਜਿਥੋਂ ਦਾ) ਸ਼ੁਭ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਜ 'ਤਿਲਕ' ਸੀ ॥੧੫॥੨੬੮॥
Whose king ‘Tilak’ was a person of good qualities.15.268.
ਮਦਕਰਿਮਤਭਏਜੇਰਾਜਾ॥
ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਰਾਜੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰਤੱਵ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ) ਬੇਸੁਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
The kings who get intoxicated with wine,
ਤਿਨਕੇਗਏਐਸਹੀਕਾਜਾ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਗੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
All their errands are destroyed like this.
ਛੀਨਛਾਨਛਿਤਛਤ੍ਰਫਿਰਾਯੋ॥
(ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਰਾਜਖੇਤਰ ਖੋਹ ਲਏ ਅਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ) ਛਤਰ ਝੁਲਾਇਆ।
(Ajai Singh) sezed the kingdom and held the canopy on his head.
ਮਹਾਰਾਜਆਪਹੀਕਹਾਯੋ॥੧੬॥੨੬੯॥
(ਫਿਰ) ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਅਖਵਾਉਣ ਲਗਿਆ ॥੧੬॥੨੬੯॥
He caused himself to be called Maharaja.16.269.
ਆਗੇਚਲੇਅਸ੍ਵਮੇਧਹਾਰਾ॥
ਹਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਸੁਮੇਦ ਅਗੇ ਅਗੇ ਚਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
The defeated Asumedh was running in front,
ਧਵਹਿਪਾਛੇਫਉਜਅਪਾਰਾ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਪਿਛੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
And the great army was pursuing him.
ਗੇਜਹਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਤਿਲਕਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ॥
(ਉਹ ਉਥੇ) ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਤਿਲਕ (ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ)।
Asumedh went to the kingdom of Maharaja Tilak,
ਰਾਜਪਾਟਵਾਹੂਕਉਛਾਜਾ॥੧੭॥੨੭੦॥
ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ-ਪਾਟ ਸ਼ੋਭਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੭॥੨੭੦॥
Who was a most appropriate king.17.270.
ਤਹਾਇਕਆਹਿਸਨਉਢੀਬ੍ਰਹਮਨ॥
ਉਥੇ ਇਕ ਸਨੌਢੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
There lived a Sanaudhi Brahmin.
ਪੰਡਤਬਡੇਮਹਾਬਡਗੁਨਜਨ॥
(ਉਹ) ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।
He was a very great Pundit and had many great qualities.
ਭੂਪਹਿਕੋਗੁਰਸਭਹੁਕੀਪੂਜਾ॥
(ਉਹ) ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੀ, (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਸਭ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
He was the preceptor of the king and all worshiped him.
ਤਿਹਬਿਨੁਅਵਰੁਨਮਾਨਹਿਦੂਜਾ॥੧੮॥੨੭੧॥
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਥੇ ਕਿਸੇ) ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ॥੧੮॥੨੭੧॥
None other was abored there.18.271.
ਭੁਜੰਗਪ੍ਰਯਾਤਛੰਦ॥
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ:
BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
ਕਹੂੰਬ੍ਰਹਮਬਾਨੀਕਰਹਿਬੇਦਚਰਚਾ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਬਾਣੀ (ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ) ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।
Somewhere there was the recitation of Upnishads and somewhere there was discussion about the Vedas.
ਕਹੂੰਬਿਪ੍ਰਬੈਠੇਕਰਹਿਬ੍ਰਹਮਅਰਚਾ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਬੈਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Somewhere the Brahmins were seated together and worshipping Brahman
ਤਹਾਬਿਪ੍ਰਸਨੌਢਤੇਏਕਲਛਨ॥
(ਉਥੇ ਉਸ) ਸਨੌਢੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਲੱਛਣ ਸੀ
There the Sanaudh Brahmin lived with such qualifications:
ਕਰੈਬਕਲਬਸਤ੍ਰੰਫਿਰੈਬਾਇਭਛਨ॥੧॥੨੭੨॥
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਭੋਜ-ਪੱਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਵਾ ਭਖਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥੨੭੨॥
He wore the clothes of the leaves and bark of birch tree and moved around subsisting only on air.1.272.
ਕਹੂੰਬੇਦਸਿਯਾਮੰਸੁਰੰਸਾਥਗਾਵੈ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਸਿਆਮ ਵੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰ ਨਾਲ ਗਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
Somewhere the hymns of Sam Veda were sung melodiously
ਕਹੂੰਜੁਜਰਬੇਦੰਪੜੇਮਾਨਪਾਵੈ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਯਜੁਰ ਵੇਦ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
