ਜਿਹਚਾਹੇਤਾਕੋਹਨੇਜੋਬਾਛੈਸੋਲੇਇ॥
(ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ, ਜੋ ਕੋਈ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ, ਲੈ ਲੈਂਦਾ।
Whomsoever (Ajai Singh) wants he kills him, whatever he desires, he gets.
ਜਿਹਰਾਖੈਸੋਈਰਹੈਜਿਹਜਾਨੈਤਿਹਦੇਇ॥੧੩॥੨੫੦॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹ) ਰਖਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉੱਚੀ ਪਦਵੀ) ਦੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੩॥੨੫੦॥
Whomsoever he protects, he remains safe, and whosoever he considers protagonist, he bestows on him the desired position.13.250.

ਐਸੀਭਾਤਕੀਨੋਇਹਜਬਹੀ॥
ਉਸ (ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ) ਨੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ (ਵਿਵਹਾਰ) ਕਰਨਾ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤਾ,
When he began such a treatment,
ਪ੍ਰਜਾਲੋਕਸਭਬਸਭਏਤਬਹੀ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
All the subject with this, came under his control
ਅਉਬਸਿਹੋਇਗਏਨੇਬਖਵਾਸਾ॥
ਅਤੇ ਨਾਇਬ ਤੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਵੀ ਵਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਗਏ
And the chieftains and other prominent persons came under his control,
ਜੋਰਾਖਤਥੇਨ੍ਰਿਪਕੀਆਸਾ॥੧॥੨੫੧॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਰਾਜੇ ਤੋਂ (ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕਾਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਰਖਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧॥੨੫੧॥
Who had earlier owned allegiance to the king.1.251.
ਏਕਦਿਵਸਤਿਹੂੰਭ੍ਰਾਤਸੁਜਾਨਾ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਸੁਜਾਨ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ
One day all the three sagacious brothers,
ਮੰਡਸਚੌਪਰਖੇਲਖਿਲਾਨਾ॥
ਚੌਪੜ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਣ ਦੀ ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
Began to play chess.
ਦਾਉਸਮੈਕਛੁਰਿਸਕਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ॥
ਦਾਉ (ਲਗਾਉਣ) ਵੇਲੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਕੁਝ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਆ ਗਿਆ
When the dice was thrown, (one of the two real brothers) thought in indignation,
ਅਜੈਸੁਨਤਇਹਭਾਤਉਚਾਰਿਓ॥੨॥੨੫੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ॥੨॥੨੫੨॥
And uttered these words, while Ajai listened.2.252.

ਕਹਾਕਰੈਦਾਕਹਪਰੈਕਹਯਹਬਾਧੈਸੂਤ॥
(ਵੇਖੋ, ਇਹ) ਕੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦਾਉ ਕੀ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
Let us see, what he does how doth he throw the dice how shalt he keep the propriety of conduct?
ਕਹਾਸਤ੍ਰੁਯਾਤੇਮਰੈਜੋਰਜੀਆਕਾਪੂਤ॥੩॥੨੫੩॥
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੈਰੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਰੇਗਾ ਜੋ (ਆਪ) ਰਜੀਆ (ਦਾਸੀ) ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨੫੩॥
How shalt the enemy be killed by him, who himself is the son of maid-servant?3.253.

ਯਹੈਆਜਹਮਖੇਲਬਿਚਾਰੀ॥
(ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਹੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੇ) ਅਜ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਖੇਡ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ ਹੈ,
We have thought about this game to-day.
ਸੋਭਾਖਤਹੈਪ੍ਰਗਟਪੁਕਾਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਯੋਜਨ) ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ
That we utter apparently.
ਏਕਹਿਰਤਨਰਾਜਧਨੁਲੀਨਾ॥
(ਕਿ ਇਹ ਖੇਡ ਸਾਡੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ। ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ) ਇਕ ਨੇ ਰਤਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ-ਧਨ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ
One of them took the gems of the kingdom.
ਦੁਤੀਐਅਸ੍ਵਉਸਟਗਜਲੀਨਾ॥੧॥੨੫੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਘੋੜੇ, ਊਠ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਲੈ ਲਏ ॥੧॥੨੫੪॥
The second one took horses, camels and elephants.1.254.
ਕੁਅਰੈਬਾਟਸੈਨਸਭਲੀਆ॥
ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਵੰਡ ਲਈ
The princes distributed all the forces.
ਤੀਨਹੁਬਾਟਤੀਨਕਰਕੀਆ॥
ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਬਣਾ ਲਏ।
The divided the army in three parts.
ਪਾਸਾਢਾਰਧਰੈਕਸਦਾਵਾ॥
(ਫਿਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਨ ਲਗੇ) ਕਿ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਾਸਾ ਸੁਟ ਕੇ ਦਾਉ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ।
They thought, how the dice be cast and the rouse be played?

ਕੀ ਪਤਾ ਇਹ ਖੇਲ ਕੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨੫੫॥

ਚਉਪਰਖੇਲਪਰੀਤਿਹਮਾਹਾ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੌਪੜ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਆਰੰਭ ਹੋ ਗਈ
The game of dice was began to watch the play.
ਦੇਖਤਊਚਨੀਚਨਰਨਾਹਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੇ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਨਿੱਕੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The high and low all began to watch the play
ਜ੍ਵਾਲਾਰੂਪਸੁਪਰਧਾਬਾਢੀ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਈਰਖਾ ਰੂਪੀ ਜੁਆਲਾ ਵਧ ਗਈ
The fire of jealousy increased in their hearts,
ਭੂਪਨਫਿਰਤਸੰਘਾਰਤਕਾਢੀ॥੩॥੨੫੬॥
ਜੋ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਦਸੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨੫੬॥
Which is said to be the destroyer of the kings.3.256.
ਤਿਨਕੈਬੀਚਪਰੀਅਸਖੇਲਾ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਈ
The game was played thus amongst them,
ਕਟਨਸੁਹਿਤਭਇਉਮਿਟਨਦੁਹੇਲਾ॥
ਕਿ (ਤਿੰਨੋ) ਮਰਨ ਮਾਰਨ ਤੇ ਤੁਲ ਗਏ (ਅਤੇ ਝਗੜੇ ਦਾ) ਮਿਟਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
That they reached the stage of destroying one another and it was difficult to pacify them.
ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੈਰਤਨਦ੍ਰਿਬਬਹੁਲਾਯੋ॥
ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਦਾਉ ਉਤੇ) ਰਤਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਲਗਾਈ ਗਈ
In the beginning the princes put the gems and wealth to stake
ਬਸਤ੍ਰਬਾਜਗਜਬਹੁਤਹਰਾਯੋ॥੪॥੨੫੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ, ਘੋੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਥੀ (ਲਗਾਏ ਗਏ ਜੋ ਸਭ) ਹਾਰੇ ਗਏ ॥੪॥੨੫੭॥
Then they bet the clothes, horses and elephants, they lost all.4.257.
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਬੀਚਸੁਪਰਧਾਬਾਢਾ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਈਰਖਾ ਵਧ ਗਈ
The wrangling increased on both the sides.
ਦੁਹਦਿਸਉਠੇਸੁਭਟਅਸਕਾਢਾ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਉਠ ਖੜੋਤੇ।
On both the sides, the warriors drew their swords
ਚਮਕਹਿਕਹੂੰਅਸਨਕੀਧਾਰਾ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਾਂ ਚਮਕਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ
The sharp edges of the swords glistened,
ਬਿਛਗਈਲੋਥਅਨੇਕਅਪਾਰਾ॥੫॥੨੫੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਪਾਰ ਲੌਥਾਂ (ਉਥੇ) ਵਿਛ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੫॥੨੫੮॥
And many corpses lay scattered there.5.258.
ਜੁਗਨਦੈਤਫਿਰਹਿਹਰਿਖਾਨੇ॥
ਕਲ-ਜੋਗਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
The vamps and demons wandered with pleasure
ਗੀਧਸਿਵਾਬੋਲਹਿਅਭਿਮਾਨੇ॥
ਗਿਰਝਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਦੜ ਮੌਜ ਨਾਲ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸਨ।
The vultures and ganas of Shiva manifested their pride through their gay voices.
ਭੂਤਪ੍ਰੇਤਨਾਚਹਿਅਰੁਗਾਵਹਿ॥
ਭੂਤ-ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਨਚਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ
The ghosts and goblins danced and sang.
ਕਹੂੰਕਹੂੰਸਬਦਬੈਤਾਲਸੁਨਾਵਹਿ॥੬॥੨੫੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ-ਕਿਤੇ ਬੈਤਾਲ ਵੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੬॥੨੫੯॥
Somewhere the Baitals raised their voice.6.259.
ਚਮਕਤਕਹੂੰਖਗਨਕੀਧਾਰਾ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਾਂ ਚਮਕਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
Somewhere the sharp edges of the swords gleamed.
ਬਿਥਗਏਰੁੰਡਭਸੁੰਡਅਪਾਰਾ॥
ਅਪਾਰ (ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਧੜ ਅਤੇ (ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁੰਡ ਖਿਲਰੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ।
The heads of warriors and trunks of elephants lay scattered on the earth.
ਚਿੰਸਤਕਹੂੰਗਿਰੇਗਜਮਾਤੇ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਮਸਤ ਹਾਥੀ ਡਿਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਚੀਖ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ
Somewhere the intoxicated elephants were trumpeting after having fallen.
ਸੋਵਤਕਹੂੰਸੁਭਟਰਣਤਾਤੇ॥੭॥੨੬੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਕਰੜੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਤੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ ॥੭॥੨੬੦॥
Somewhere the furious warriors in the battlefield rolled down.7.260.
ਹਿੰਸਤਕਹੂੰਗਿਰੇਹੈਘਾਏ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਘਾਇਲ ਘੋੜੇ ਡਿਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਿਣਕ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Somewhere the wounded horses have fallen and are neighing.
ਸੋਵਤਕ੍ਰੂਰਸਲੋਕਪਠਾਏ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਸੁਅਰਸਗ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜੇ ਗਏ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਲੇਟੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ।
Somewhere the terrible warriors are lying down they have been sent.
ਕਟਿਗਏਕਹੂੰਕਉਚਅਰੁਚਰਮਾ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਕਵਚ ਅਤੇ ਢਾਲਾਂ ਕਟੀਆਂ ਵਢੀਆਂ ਪਈਆਂ ਸਨ।
