ਤੀਜੈਮੁਹੀਗਿਰਾਹਭੁਖਤਿਖਾਦੁਇਭਉਕੀਆ॥
ਤੀਜੇ ਪਹਰ ਭੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਚਮਕ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਣ ਦੇ ਆਹਰੇ (ਜੀਵ) ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
In the third watch, both hunger and thirst bark for attention, and food is put into the mouth.
ਖਾਧਾਹੋਇਸੁਆਹਭੀਖਾਣੇਸਿਉਦੋਸਤੀ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਜੋ ਕੁੱਝ ਖਾਧਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਭਸਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਖਾਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
That which is eaten becomes dust, but they are still attached to eating.
ਚਉਥੈਆਈਊਂਘਅਖੀਮੀਟਿਪਵਾਰਿਗਇਆ॥
ਚਉਥੇ ਪਹਰ ਨੀਂਦ ਆ ਦਬਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮੀਟ ਕੇ ਘੂਕ ਨੀਂਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਉਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
In the fourth watch, they become drowsy. They close their eyes and begin to dream.
ਭੀਉਠਿਰਚਿਓਨੁਵਾਦੁਸੈਵਰਿੑਆਕੀਪਿੜਬਧੀ॥
ਨੀਂਦਰੋਂ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਉਹੀ ਝਮੇਲਾ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਇਥੇ) ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਊਣ ਦਾ ਘੋਲ ਮਚਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
Rising up again, they engage in conflicts; they set the stage as if they will live for 100 years.
ਸਭੇਵੇਲਾਵਖਤਸਭਿਜੇਅਠੀਭਉਹੋਇ॥
(ਸੋ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਜਦੋਂ (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਅੱਭਿਆਸ ਨਾਲ) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਕਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
If at all times, at each and every moment, they live in the fear of God
ਨਾਨਕਸਾਹਿਬੁਮਨਿਵਸੈਸਚਾਨਾਵਣੁਹੋਇ॥੧॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ) ਮਾਲਕ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
-O Nanak, the Lord dwells within their minds, and their cleansing bath is true. ||1||

Second Mahalaa:
ਸੇਈਪੂਰੇਸਾਹਜਿਨੀਪੂਰਾਪਾਇਆ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਨ।
They are the perfect kings, who have found the Perfect Lord.
ਅਠੀਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਰਹਨਿਇਕਤੈਰੰਗਿ॥
ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ (ਪਿਆਰ) ਵਿਚ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬੇ-ਪਰਵਾਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਮੁਥਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ)।
Twenty-four hours a day, they remain unconcerned, imbued with the Love of the One Lord.
ਦਰਸਨਿਰੂਪਿਅਥਾਹਵਿਰਲੇਪਾਈਅਹਿ॥
(ਪਰ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ) ਬੜੇ ਘੱਟ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ)।
Only a few obtain the Darshan, the Blessed Vision of the Unimaginably Beauteous Lord.
ਕਰਮਿਪੂਰੈਪੂਰਾਗੁਰੂਪੂਰਾਜਾਕਾਬੋਲੁ॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਬੋਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ,
Through the perfect karma of good deeds, one meets the Perfect Guru, whose speech is perfect.
ਨਾਨਕਪੂਰਾਜੇਕਰੇਘਟੈਨਾਹੀਤੋਲੁ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤੋਲ ਘਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਭਾਵ, ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਘਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ) ॥੨॥
O Nanak, when the Guru makes one perfect, one's weight does not decrease. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਾਤੂੰਤਾਕਿਆਹੋਰਿਮੈਸਚੁਸੁਣਾਈਐ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
When You are with me, what more could I want? I speak only the Truth.
ਮੁਠੀਧੰਧੈਚੋਰਿਮਹਲੁਨਪਾਈਐ॥
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ-ਰੂਪ ਚੋਰ ਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰ (ਮਹਲ) ਲੱਭਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
Plundered by the thieves of worldly affairs, she does not obtain the Mansion of His Presence.
ਏਨੈਚਿਤਿਕਠੋਰਿਸੇਵਗਵਾਈਐ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਠੋਰ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ) ਮਿਹਨਤ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
Being so stone-hearted, she has lost her chance to serve the Lord.
ਜਿਤੁਘਟਿਸਚੁਨਪਾਇਸੁਭੰਨਿਘੜਾਈਐ॥
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਿਆ, ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਭੱਜਦਾ ਘੜੀਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
That heart, in which the True Lord is not found, should be torn down and re-built.
ਕਿਉਕਰਿਪੂਰੈਵਟਿਤੋਲਿਤੁਲਾਈਐ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਵੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੋਲ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਉਤਰੇ?
How can she be weighed accurately, upon the scale of perfection?
ਕੋਇਨਆਖੈਘਟਿਹਉਮੈਜਾਈਐ॥
ਹਾਂ, ਜੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ (ਤੋਲੋਂ) ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਦਾ।
No one will say that her weight has been shorted, if she rids herself of egotism.
ਲਈਅਨਿਖਰੇਪਰਖਿਦਰਿਬੀਨਾਈਐ॥
ਖਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਖ ਲਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The genuine are assayed, and accepted in the Court of the All-knowing Lord.
ਸਉਦਾਇਕਤੁਹਟਿਪੂਰੈਗੁਰਿਪਾਈਐ॥੧੭॥
(ਇਹ) ਸਉਦਾ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਹੱਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੭॥
The genuine merchandise is found only in one shop-it is obtained from the Perfect Guru. ||17||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੨॥
Shalok, Second Mahalaa:
ਅਠੀਪਹਰੀਅਠਖੰਡਨਾਵਾਖੰਡੁਸਰੀਰੁ॥
ਜੇ (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ੯ ਖੰਡਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਨਾਵਾਂ ਖੰਡ ਮਨੁੱਖ-ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਅੱਠ ਖੰਡੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Twenty-four hours a day, destroy the eight things, and in the ninth place, conquer the body.
ਤਿਸੁਵਿਚਿਨਉਨਿਧਿਨਾਮੁਏਕੁਭਾਲਹਿਗੁਣੀਗਹੀਰੁ॥
(ਨਾਵੇਂ ਖੰਡ ਸਰੀਰ) ਵਿਚ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਥਾਹ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Within the body are the nine treasures of the Name of the Lord-seek the depths of these virtues.
ਕਰਮਵੰਤੀਸਾਲਾਹਿਆਨਾਨਕਕਰਿਗੁਰੁਪੀਰੁ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ) ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੀਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Those blessed with the karma of good actions praise the Lord. O Nanak, they make the Guru their spiritual teacher.
ਚਉਥੈਪਹਰਿਸਬਾਹਕੈਸੁਰਤਿਆਉਪਜੈਚਾਉ॥
ਸਵੇਰ ਦੇ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਹਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉੱਚੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸ ਨਉਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮ ਲਈ) ਚਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the fourth watch of the early morning hours, a longing arises in their higher consciousness.
ਤਿਨਾਦਰੀਆਵਾਸਿਉਦੋਸਤੀਮਨਿਮੁਖਿਸਚਾਨਾਉ॥
(ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
They are attuned to the river of life; the True Name is in their minds and on their lips.
ਓਥੈਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਵੰਡੀਐਕਰਮੀਹੋਇਪਸਾਉ॥
ਓਥੇ (ਸਤ-ਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੰਡਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
The Ambrosial Nectar is distributed, and those with good karma receive this gift.
ਕੰਚਨਕਾਇਆਕਸੀਐਵੰਨੀਚੜੈਚੜਾਉ॥
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤਾਉ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਸੋਨੇ (ਨੂੰ ਕੱਸ ਲਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ-ਕਮਾਈ ਦੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਸ ਲਾਈਦੀ ਤੇ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
Their bodies become golden, and take on the color of spirituality.
ਜੇਹੋਵੈਨਦਰਿਸਰਾਫਕੀਬਹੁੜਿਨਪਾਈਤਾਉ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰਾਫ਼ (-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਫੇਰ ਤਪਾਣ (ਭਾਵ ਹੋਰ ਘਾਲਾਂ) ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ।
If the Jeweller casts His Glance of Grace, they are not placed in the fire again.
ਸਤੀਪਹਰੀਸਤੁਭਲਾਬਹੀਐਪੜਿਆਪਾਸਿ॥
(ਅਠਵਾਂ ਪਹਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤ ਕੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਦੇ) ਸੱਤ ਪਹਰ ਭੀ ਭਲਾ ਆਚਰਨ (ਬਨਾਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਬੈਠਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
Throughout the other seven watches of the day, it is good to speak the Truth, and sit with the spiritually wise.
ਓਥੈਪਾਪੁਪੁੰਨੁਬੀਚਾਰੀਐਕੂੜੈਘਟੈਰਾਸਿ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠਿਆਂ) ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਘਟਦੀ ਹੈ,
There, vice and virtue are distinguished, and the capital of falsehood is decreased.
ਓਥੈਖੋਟੇਸਟੀਅਹਿਖਰੇਕੀਚਹਿਸਾਬਾਸਿ॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਟ ਦੇਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਖਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
There, the counterfeit are cast aside, and the genuine are cheered.
ਬੋਲਣੁਫਾਦਲੁਨਾਨਕਾਦੁਖੁਸੁਖੁਖਸਮੈਪਾਸਿ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਓਥੇ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਸਮਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਾਪਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਗਿਲਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Speech is vain and useless. O Nanak, pain and pleasure are in the power of our Lord and Master. ||1||

ਪਉਣੁਗੁਰੂਪਾਣੀਪਿਤਾਮਾਤਾਧਰਤਿਮਹਤੁ॥
ਹਵਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਵਾ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਉਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ), ਪਾਣੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਉ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਵੱਡੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ।
Air is the Guru, Water is the Father, and Earth is the Great Mother of all.
ਦਿਨਸੁਰਾਤਿਦੁਇਦਾਈਦਾਇਆਖੇਲੈਸਗਲਜਗਤੁ॥
ਦਿਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਖਿਡਾਵਾ ਤੇ ਖਿਡਾਵੀ ਹਨ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਖੇਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਉਣ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਦਿਨੇ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ)।
Day and night are the two nurses, in whose lap all the world is at play.
ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਬੁਰਿਆਈਆਵਾਚੇਧਰਮੁਹਦੂਰਿ॥
ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਬੜੇ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਚੰਗੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ (ਨਿੱਤ) ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Good deeds and bad deeds-the record is read out in the Presence of the Lord of Dharma.
ਕਰਮੀਆਪੋਆਪਣੀਕੇਨੇੜੈਕੇਦੂਰਿ॥
ਤੇ, ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
According to their own actions, some are drawn closer, and some are driven farther away.
ਜਿਨੀਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਇਆਗਏਮਸਕਤਿਘਾਲਿ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਸਫਲੀ ਕਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Those who have meditated on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and departed after having worked by the sweat of their brow
ਨਾਨਕਤੇਮੁਖਉਜਲੇਹੋਰਕੇਤੀਛੁਟੀਨਾਲਿ॥੨॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਉਹ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰ ਬਥੇਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
-O Nanak, their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord, and many others are saved along with them! ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਚਾਭੋਜਨੁਭਾਉਸਤਿਗੁਰਿਦਸਿਆ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਆਤਮਾ ਲਈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੂਪ ਸੱਚਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ,
The True Food is the Love of the Lord; the True Guru has spoken.
ਸਚੇਹੀਪਤੀਆਇਸਚਿਵਿਗਸਿਆ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
With this True Food, I am satisfied, and with the Truth, I am delighted.
ਸਚੈਕੋਟਿਗਿਰਾਂਇਨਿਜਘਰਿਵਸਿਆ॥
ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ-ਰੂਪ) ਸ੍ਵੈ-ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
True are the cities and the villages, where one abides in the True Home of the self.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿਤੁਠੈਨਾਉਪ੍ਰੇਮਿਰਹਸਿਆ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਤਰੁੱਠਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
When the True Guru is pleased, one receives the Lord's Name, and blossoms forth in His Love.
ਸਚੈਦੈਦੀਬਾਣਿਕੂੜਿਨਜਾਈਐ॥
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੂੜ ਦੇ (ਸਉਦੇ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜ ਸਕੀਦਾ।
No one enters the Court of the True Lord through falsehood.
ਝੂਠੋਝੂਠੁਵਖਾਣਿਸੁਮਹਲੁਖੁਆਈਐ॥
ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ-ਥਾਂ ਗਵਾ ਬੈਠੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
By uttering falsehood and only falsehood, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is lost.
