ਜਾਤੁਧੁਭਾਵਹਿਤਾਕਰਹਿਬਿਭੂਤਾਸਿੰਙੀਨਾਦੁਵਜਾਵਹਿ॥
ਕਈ (ਪਿੰਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਸੁਆਹ ਮਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਦ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we smear our bodies with ashes, and blow the horn and the conch shell.
ਜਾਤੁਧੁਭਾਵੈਤਾਪੜਹਿਕਤੇਬਾਮੁਲਾਸੇਖਕਹਾਵਹਿ॥
ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼ ਅਖਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we read the Islamic Scriptures, and are acclaimed as Mullahs and Shaykhs.
ਜਾਤੁਧੁਭਾਵੈਤਾਹੋਵਹਿਰਾਜੇਰਸਕਸਬਹੁਤੁਕਮਾਵਹਿ॥
ਕੋਈ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we become kings, and enjoy all sorts of tastes and pleasures.
ਜਾਤੁਧੁਭਾਵੈਤੇਗਵਗਾਵਹਿਸਿਰਮੁੰਡੀਕਟਿਜਾਵਹਿ॥
ਕੋਈ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਚਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਧੌਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸਿਰ ਵੱਢੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we wield the sword, and cut off the heads of our enemies.
ਜਾਤੁਧੁਭਾਵੈਜਾਹਿਦਿਸੰਤਰਿਸੁਣਿਗਲਾਘਰਿਆਵਹਿ॥
ਕੋਈ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਧਰ ਦੀਆਂ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਮੁੜ ਆਪਣੇ) ਘਰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we go out to foreign lands; hearing news of home, we come back again.
ਜਾਤੁਧੁਭਾਵੈਨਾਇਰਚਾਵਹਿਤੁਧੁਭਾਣੇਤੂੰਭਾਵਹਿ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
When it pleases You, we are attuned to the Name, and when it pleases You, we become pleasing to You.
ਨਾਨਕੁਏਕਕਹੈਬੇਨੰਤੀਹੋਰਿਸਗਲੇਕੂੜੁਕਮਾਵਹਿ॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਰ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਕੂੜ ਕਮਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਸਉਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
Nanak utters this one prayer; everything else is just the practice of falsehood. ||1||

First Mahalaa:
ਜਾਤੂੰਵਡਾਸਭਿਵਡਿਆਂਈਆਚੰਗੈਚੰਗਾਹੋਈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਚੰਗੇ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਹੀ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
You are so Great-all Greatness flows from You. You are So Good-Goodness radiates from You.
ਜਾਤੂੰਸਚਾਤਾਸਭੁਕੋਸਚਾਕੂੜਾਕੋਇਨਕੋਈ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨ ਬੱਝ ਜਾਏ ਕਿ) ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਸੱਚਾ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਕੂੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
You are True-all that flows from You is True. Nothing at all is false.
ਆਖਣੁਵੇਖਣੁਬੋਲਣੁਚਲਣੁਜੀਵਣੁਮਰਣਾਧਾਤੁ॥
(ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਬਾਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ) ਆਖਣਾ-ਵੇਖਣਾ, ਇਹ ਬੋਲ-ਚਾਲ, ਇਹ ਜੀਉਂਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਨਾ (ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਮਾਇਆ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ)।
Talking, seeing, speaking, walking, living and dying-all these are transitory.
ਹੁਕਮੁਸਾਜਿਹੁਕਮੈਵਿਚਿਰਖੈਨਾਨਕਸਚਾਆਪਿ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਹੁਕਮ (-ਰੂਪ ਸੱਤਿਆ) ਰਚ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
By the Hukam of His Command, He creates, and in His Command, He keeps us. O Nanak, He Himself is True. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸੇਵਿਨਿਸੰਗੁਭਰਮੁਚੁਕਾਈਐ॥
ਜੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Serve the True Guru fearlessly, and your doubt shall be dispelled.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਆਖੈਕਾਰਸੁਕਾਰਕਮਾਈਐ॥
ਉਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਖੇ।
Do that work which the True Guru asks you to do.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਹੋਇਦਇਆਲੁਤਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਈਐ॥
ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
When the True Guru becomes merciful, we meditate on the Naam.
ਲਾਹਾਭਗਤਿਸੁਸਾਰੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਾਈਐ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਾਭ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The profit of devotional worship is excellent. It is obtained by the Gurmukh.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿਕੂੜੁਗੁਬਾਰੁਕੂੜੁਕਮਾਈਐ॥
ਪਰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰਾ ਕੂੜ ਨਿਰਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
The self-willed manmukhs are trapped in the darkness of falsehood; they practice nothing but falsehood.
ਸਚੇਦੈਦਰਿਜਾਇਸਚੁਚਵਾਂਈਐ॥
ਜੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੀਏ,
Go to the Gate of Truth, and speak the Truth.
ਸਚੈਅੰਦਰਿਮਹਲਿਸਚਿਬੁਲਾਈਐ॥
ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The True Lord calls the true ones to the Mansion of His Presence.
ਨਾਨਕਸਚੁਸਦਾਸਚਿਆਰੁਸਚਿਸਮਾਈਐ॥੧੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ) ਸਦਾ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
O Nanak, the true ones are forever true; they are absorbed in the True Lord. ||15||
ਸਲੋਕੁਮਃ੧॥
Shalok, First Mahalaa:
ਕਲਿਕਾਤੀਰਾਜੇਕਾਸਾਈਧਰਮੁਪੰਖਕਰਿਉਡਰਿਆ॥
ਇਹ ਘੋਰ ਕਲ-ਜੁਗੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ (ਮਾਨੋਂ) ਛੁਰੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਰਾਜੇ ਜ਼ਾਲਮ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਧਰਮ ਖੰਭ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the knife, and the kings are butchers; righteousness has sprouted wings and flown away.
ਕੂੜੁਅਮਾਵਸਸਚੁਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਦੀਸੈਨਾਹੀਕਹਚੜਿਆ॥
ਕੂੜ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਮੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਸੱਚ-ਰੂਪ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
In this dark night of falsehood, the moon of Truth is not visible anywhere.
ਹਉਭਾਲਿਵਿਕੁੰਨੀਹੋਈ॥
ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ,
I have searched in vain, and I am so confused;
ਆਧੇਰੈਰਾਹੁਨਕੋਈ॥
ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਰਾਹ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
in this darkness, I cannot find the path.
ਵਿਚਿਹਉਮੈਕਰਿਦੁਖੁਰੋਈ॥
(ਇਸ ਹਨੇਰੇ) ਵਿਚ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
In egotism, they cry out in pain.
ਕਹੁਨਾਨਕਕਿਨਿਬਿਧਿਗਤਿਹੋਈ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਿਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਹੋਵੇ? ॥੧॥
Says Nanak, how will they be saved? ||1||

Third Mahalaa:
ਕਲਿਕੀਰਤਿਪਰਗਟੁਚਾਨਣੁਸੰਸਾਰਿ॥
ਇਸ ਕਲਜੁਗੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ (-ਰੂਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ) ਲਈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਸਮਰੱਥ) ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਘਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੈ।
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise has appeared as a Light in the world.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਕੋਈਉਤਰੈਪਾਰਿ॥
(ਪਰ) ਕੋਈ (ਵਿਰਲਾ) ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਚਾਨਣ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ।
How rare are those few Gurmukhs who swim across to the other side!
ਜਿਸਨੋਨਦਰਿਕਰੇਤਿਸੁਦੇਵੈ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਕੀਰਤਿ-ਰੂਪ ਚਾਨਣ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord bestows His Glance of Grace;
ਨਾਨਕਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਰਤਨੁਸੋਲੇਵੈ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਰਤਨ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukh receives the jewel. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਭਗਤਾਤੈਸੈਸਾਰੀਆਜੋੜੁਕਦੇਨਆਇਆ॥
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ) ਭਗਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਜੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ (ਪਰ, ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
Between the Lord's devotees and the people of the world, there can never be any true alliance.
ਕਰਤਾਆਪਿਅਭੁਲੁਹੈਨਭੁਲੈਕਿਸੈਦਾਭੁਲਾਇਆ॥
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਤਾਂ ਉਕਾਈ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਖੁੰਝਾਇਆ (ਭੀ) ਖੁੰਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
The Creator Himself is infallible. He cannot be fooled; no one can fool Him.
ਭਗਤਆਪੇਮੇਲਿਅਨੁਜਿਨੀਸਚੋਸਚੁਕਮਾਇਆ॥
(ਇਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਬੰਦਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
He blends His devotees with Himself; they practice Truth, and only Truth.
ਸੈਸਾਰੀਆਪਿਖੁਆਇਅਨੁਜਿਨੀਕੂੜੁਬੋਲਿਬੋਲਿਬਿਖੁਖਾਇਆ॥
ਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੁੰਝਾਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਵਿਹੁ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The Lord Himself leads the people of the world astray; they tell lies, and by telling lies, they eat poison.
ਚਲਣਸਾਰਨਜਾਣਨੀਕਾਮੁਕਰੋਧੁਵਿਸੁਵਧਾਇਆ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ, ਕਿ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਭੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ। ਸੋ, ਉਹ ਕਾਮ ਕਰੋਧ-ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ (ਜ਼ਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਵਧਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
They do not recognize the ultimate reality, that we all must go; they continue to cultivate the poisons of sexual desire and anger.
ਭਗਤਕਰਨਿਹਰਿਚਾਕਰੀਜਿਨੀਅਨਦਿਨੁਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਇਆ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਤ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The devotees serve the Lord; night and day, they meditate on the Naam.
ਦਾਸਨਿਦਾਸਹੋਇਕੈਜਿਨੀਵਿਚਹੁਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,
Becoming the slaves of the Lord's slaves, they eradicate selfishness and conceit from within.
ਓਨਾਖਸਮੈਕੈਦਰਿਮੁਖਉਜਲੇਸਚੈਸਬਦਿਸੁਹਾਇਆ॥੧੬॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੬॥
In the Court of their Lord and Master, their faces are radiant; they are embellished and exalted with the True Word of the Shabad. ||16||
ਸਲੋਕੁਮਃ੧॥
Shalok, First Mahalaa:
ਸਬਾਹੀਸਾਲਾਹਜਿਨੀਧਿਆਇਆਇਕਮਨਿ॥
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਕ-ਮਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who praise the Lord in the early hours of the morning and meditate on Him single-mindedly,
ਸੇਈਪੂਰੇਸਾਹਵਖਤੈਉਪਰਿਲੜਿਮੁਏ॥
ਵੇਲੇ-ਸਿਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੰਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਲਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਹਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਉਹੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਨ।

ਦਿਨ-ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਨਾਂ ਖਿੱਲਰ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਮਨ ਕਈ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ;

ਬਹੁਤੁਪਏਅਸਗਾਹਗੋਤੇਖਾਹਿਨਨਿਕਲਹਿ॥
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਫਸਦੇ ਹਨ) ਕਿ ਨਿਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।
