ਕਿਤੇਬਾਧਿਕੈਬਿਪ੍ਰਬਾਚੇਦਿਵਾਰੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿਣ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
Many Brahmins were entombed in the walls
ਕਿਤੇਬਾਧਫਾਸੀਦੀਏਬਿਪ੍ਰਭਾਰੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਫਾਂਸੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
Many eminent Brahmins were hanged
ਕਿਤੇਬਾਰਿਬੋਰੇਕਿਤੇਅਗਨਿਜਾਰੇ॥
ਕਿਤਨਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਡੋਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Many were drowned in water and many were bound in fire
ਕਿਤੇਅਧਿਚੀਰੇਕਿਤੇਬਾਧਫਾਰੇ॥੩੫॥੨੦੩॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਅਧੇ ਚੀਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਪਾੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੩੫॥੨੦੩॥
Many were sawed into halves and many were bound and their bellies wre torn.35.203.
ਲਗਿਯੋਦੋਖਭੂਪੰਬਢਿਯੋਕੁਸਟਦੇਹੀ॥
ਰਾਜੇ (ਜਨਮੇਜੇ) ਨੂੰ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਹਤਿਆ) ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਹੜ ਵਧ ਗਿਆ।
The king then suffered from the blemish of Brahmin-killing and his body was inflicted by leprosy.
ਸਭੇਬਿਪ੍ਰਬੋਲੇਕਰਿਯੋਰਾਜਨੇਹੀ॥
(ਫਿਰ ਹੋਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀਤਾ।
He called all other Brahmins and treated them with love.
ਕਹੋਕਉਨਸੋਬੈਠਿਕੀਜੈਬਿਚਾਰੰ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਦਸੋ ਕਿ (ਮੈਂ) ਕਿਹੜਾ (ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੋਹੜ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਉਪਾ ਹੈ,
He asked them to sit and contemplate as to how,
ਦਹੈਦੇਹਦੋਖੰਮਿਟੈਪਾਪਭਾਰੰ॥੩੬॥੨੦੪॥
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ) ਭਾਰੀ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ॥੩੬॥੨੦੪॥
The suffering of the body and the great sin can be removed.36.204.
ਬੋਲੇਰਾਜਦੁਆਰੰਸਬੈਬਿਪ੍ਰਆਏ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ) ਬੁਲਾਏ ਸਾਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਰਾਜ-ਦੁਆਰ ਉਤੇ ਆਏ।
All the invited Brahmins came to the royal court.
ਬਡੇਬਿਆਸਤੇਆਦਿਲੈਕੇਬੁਲਾਏ॥
ਵਿਆਸ ਆਦਿ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ (ਰਿਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ) ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ।
The eminent like Vyas and other were called.
ਦੇਖੈਲਾਗਸਾਸਤ੍ਰੰਬੋਲੇਬਿਪ੍ਰਸਰਬੰ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੇ
After scanning the Shastras, all the Brahmins said,
ਕਰਿਯੋਬਿਪ੍ਰਮੇਧੰਬਢਿਓਭੂਪਗਰਬੰ॥੩੭॥੨੦੫॥
ਕਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਧ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਿਪ੍ਰ-ਮੇਧ (ਵਿਚ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਹੂਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ) ॥੩੭॥੨੦੫॥
“The ego of the king hath increased and because of this conceit, he mashed the Brahmins.37.205.
ਸੁਨਹੁਰਾਜਸਰਦੂਲਬਿਦਿਆਨਿਧਾਨੰ॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ!
“Listen, O Supreme monarch, the treasure of learning
ਕਰਿਯੋਬਿਪ੍ਰਮੇਧੰਸੁਜਗੰਪ੍ਰਮਾਨੰ॥
ਸੁਣੋ, ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਬਿਪ੍ਰ-ਮੇਧ ਕੀਤਾ।
“Thou didst mash the Brahmins during the sacrifice
ਭਇਓਅਕਸਮੰਤ੍ਰੰਕਹਿਓਨਾਹਿਕਉਨੈ॥
(ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ) ਅਚਾਨਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ (ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ) ਕਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
“All this happened suddenly, no one directed thee for this
ਕਰੀਜਉਨਹੋਤੀਭਈਬਾਤਤਉਨੈ॥੩੮॥੨੦੬॥
(ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ) ਜਿਹੜੀ (ਗੱਲ) ਕਰਨੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩੮॥੨੦੬॥
“All this hath been got done by the Providence, such happening had been recorded earlier.”38.206.
ਸੁਨਹੁਬਿਆਸਤੇਪਰਬਅਸਟੰਦਸਾਨੰ॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵਿਆਸ ਤੋਂ (ਮਹਾਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ) ੧੮ ਪਰਵ ਸੁਣੋ
“O King! Listen from Vyas eighteen Parvas (parts) of Mahabharata
ਦਹੈਦੇਹਤੇਕੁਸਟਸਰਬੰਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਨੰ॥
(ਤਦੋਂ) ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਦੇਹ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਹਟੇਗਾ।
“Then all the ailment of leprosy will be removed from thy body.”
ਬੋਲੈਬਿਪ੍ਰਬਿਆਸੰਸੁਨੈਲਾਗਪਰਬੰ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ) ਵਿਆਸ ਬਿਪ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ
The eminent Brahmin Vyas was then called and the king began to listen to the Parvas (of Mahabharata).
ਪਰਿਯੋਭੂਪਪਾਇਨਤਜੇਸਰਬਗਰਬੰ॥੩੯॥੨੦੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਗਾ ਅਤੇ (ਮਹਾਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ) ਪਰਵ ਸੁਣਨ ਲਗਾ ॥੩੯॥੨੦੭॥
The king fell at the feet of Vyas forsaking all pride.39.207.
ਸੁਨਹੁਰਾਜਸਰਦੂਲਬਿਦਿਆਨਿਧਾਨੰ॥
(ਵਿਆਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਹੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਸੁਣੋ,
(Vyas said J Listen, O Supreme monarch! the treasure of learning
ਹੂਓਭਰਥਕੇਬੰਸਮੈਰਘੁਰਾਨੰ॥
ਭਰਥ ਦੇ ਵੰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਰਘੂ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
In the linege of Bharat, there was a king named Raghu
ਭਇਓਤਉਨਕੇਬੰਸਮੈਰਾਮਰਾਜਾ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ (ਅਗੋਂ) ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
In his line, there was the king Rama
ਦੀਜੈਛਤ੍ਰਦਾਨੰਨਿਧਾਨੰਬਿਰਾਜਾ॥੪੦॥੨੦੮॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਭਰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਰਾਜ-ਛੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਖਟੀ ॥੪੦॥੨੦੮॥
Who gave the gift of life to the kashatriyas from the wrath of Parasurama and also the treasures and comfortable living.40.208.
ਭਇਓਤਉਨਕੀਜਦਮੈਜਦੁਰਾਜੰ॥
ਉਸ (ਭਰਥ) ਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਵਿਚ ਯਦੂ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ
In his clan, there was a king named Yadu
ਦਸੰਚਾਰਚੌਦਹਸੁਬਿਦਿਆਸਮਾਜੰ॥
ਜੋ ਦਸ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਸੀ।
Who was erudite in all fourteen learnings
ਭਇਓਤਉਨਕੇਬੰਸਮੈਸੰਤਨੇਅੰ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤਨੇਯ (ਰਾਜਾ) ਹੋਇਆ।
In his family, there was a king named Santanu
ਭਏਤਾਹਿਕੇਕਉਰਓਪਾਡਵੇਅੰ॥੪੧॥੨੦੯॥
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਅਗੇ ਕੌਰਵ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਂਡਵ ਹੋਏ ॥੪੧॥੨੦੯॥
In his line, there were then Kaurvas and Pandavas.41.209.
ਭਏਤਉਨਕੇਬੰਸਮੈਧ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਸਟਰੰ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਧ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਹੋਇਆ
In his family, there was Dhritrashtra,
ਮਹਾਜੁਧਜੋਧਾਪ੍ਰਬੋਧਾਮਹਾਸੁਤ੍ਰੰ॥
ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਕੜਾ ਯੋਧਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।
Who was a great hero in wars and a teacher of great enemies.
ਭਏਤਉਨਕੇਕਉਰਵੰਕ੍ਰੂਰਕਰਮੰ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਘਰ) ਕਠੋਰ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੌਰਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ
In his house there were Kauravas of vicious Karmas,
ਕੀਓਛਤ੍ਰਣੰਜੈਨਕੁਲਛੈਣਕਰਮੰ॥੪੨॥੨੧੦॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਛਤਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਛੈਣੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਕੁਲ-ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੪੨॥੨੧੦॥
Who worked as a chisel (destroyer) for the clan of Kshatriyas.42.210.
ਕੀਓਭੀਖਮੇਅਗ੍ਰਸੈਨਾਸਮਾਜੰ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਦਾ ਮੁਖੀਆ ਬਣਾਇਆ
They made Bhishama the General of their forces
ਭਇਓਕ੍ਰੁਧਜੁਧੰਸਮੁਹਪੰਡੁਰਾਜੰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਪੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਯੁੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ।
In great fury they waged their war against the sons of Pandu.
ਤਹਾਗਰਜਿਯੋਅਰਜਨੰਪਰਮਬੀਰੰ॥
ਉਸ (ਜੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਮਹਾਨ ਵੀਰ ਅਰਜਨ ਨੇ ਲਲਕਾਰਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ।
In that war, the Supreme hereo Arjuna roared.
ਧਨੁਰਬੇਦਗਿਆਤਾਤਜੇਪਰਮਤੀਰੰ॥੪੩॥੨੧੧॥
(ਉਹ) ਤੀਰ-ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਸੀ, (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਾਏ ॥੪੩॥੨੧੧॥
He was an adept in archery and shot his shafts superbly.43.211.
ਤਜੀਬੀਰਬਾਨਾਵਰੀਬੀਰਖੇਤੰ॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ੂਰਵੀਰ (ਅਰਜਨ) ਨੇ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਝੜੀ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
The great hero Arjuna shot his chain of arrows in the field (with such skill),
ਹਣਿਓਭੀਖਮੰਸਭੈਸੈਨਾਸਮੇਤੰ॥
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਸਮੇਤ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
That he killed Bhishama and destroyed al his forces.
ਦਈਬਾਣਸਿਜਾਗਰੇਭੀਖਮੈਣੰ॥
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ (ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ) ਲੇਟ ਗਿਆ।
He gave Bhishama the bed of arrows, on which he lay down.
ਜਯੰਪਤ੍ਰਪਾਇਓਸੁਖੰਪਾਡਵੇਣੰ॥੪੪॥੨੧੨॥
(ਉਸ ਦਿਨ) ਪਾਂਡਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਜਿਤ ਹੋਈ ॥੪੪॥੨੧੨॥
The great Pandava (Arjuna) attained the victory comfortably.44.212.
ਭਏਦ੍ਰੋਣਸੈਨਾਪਤੀਸੈਨਪਾਲੰ॥
(ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਕੌਰਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ) ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਨਾਪਾਲਕ ਦ੍ਰੋਣਾਚਾਰਯ ਹੋਇਆ।
The second general of Kauravas and master of their forces was Daronacharya.
ਭਇਓਘੋਰਜੁਧੰਤਹਾਤਉਨਕਾਲੰ॥
ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਥੇ ਘੋਰ ਯੁੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ।
There at that time a horrible war was waged.
ਹਣਿਓਧ੍ਰਿਸਟਦੋਨੰਤਜੇਦ੍ਰੋਣਪ੍ਰਾਣੰ॥
ਧ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਦ੍ਯੁਮਨ ਨੇ ਦ੍ਰੋਣਾਚਾਰਯ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿਤੇ।
Dhrishtadyumna killed Dronacharya, who breathed his last.
ਕਰਿਓਜੁਧਤੇਦੇਵਲੋਕੰਪਿਆਣੰ॥੪੫॥੨੧੩॥
(ਦ੍ਰੋਣਾਚਾਰਯ ਨੇ) ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਦੇਵ ਲੋਕ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸਥਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੪੫॥੨੧੩॥
Dying in the battlefield, he went to heaven.45.213.
ਭਏਕਰਣਸੈਨਾਪਤੀਛਤ੍ਰਪਾਲੰ॥
(ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਕੌਰਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਤੀਜਾ) ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਹੋਇਆ।
Karan became the third General of the Kaurva army,
ਮਚ੍ਯੋਜੁਧਕ੍ਰੁਧੰਮਹਾਬਿਕਰਾਲੰ॥
ਮਹਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਰ ਭਰਿਆ ਯੁੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ।
Who in great fury waged a terrible war.
ਹਣਿਓਤਾਹਿਪੰਥੰਸਦੰਸੀਸੁਕਪਿਓ॥
ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਰਜਨ (ਪੰਥੰ) ਨੇ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਕਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
He was killed by Partha (Arjuna) and immediately cut off his head.
ਗਿਰਿਓਤਉਣਯੁਧਿਸਟਰੰਰਾਜੁਥਪਿਓ॥੪੬॥੨੧੪॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਡਿਗਣ ਨਾਲ (ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ) ਯੁਧਿਸ਼ਠਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੪੬॥੨੧੪॥
After his fall (death), the rule of Yudhishtra was firmly established.46.214.
