ਸੁਨੇਬਿਪਬੋਲੰਉਠਿਯੋਆਪਰਾਜੰ॥
ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ, ਰਾਜਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਸਨ ਤੋਂ) ਉਠਿਆ।
Hearing these words of the Brahmin, the king stood up.
ਤਜਿਯੋਸਰਪਮੇਧੰਪਿਤਾਬੈਰਕਾਜੰ॥
ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਵੈਰ (ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ) ਕਰਕੇ (ਜੋ ਸਰਪ ਯੱਗ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਉਸ) ਸਰਪ-ਯੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
He abandoned the serpent-sacrifice and enmity for the death of his father.
ਬੁਲ੍ਯੋਬ੍ਯਾਸਪਾਸੰਕਰਿਯੋਮੰਤ੍ਰਚਾਰੰ॥
ਵੇਦ, ਵਿਆਕਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੇ
He called Vyas near him and began consultations.
ਮਹਾਬੇਦਬਿਆਕਰਣਬਿਦਿਆਬਿਚਾਰੰ॥੧੧॥੧੭੯॥
ਮਹਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਕ ਵਿਆਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਲ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਲਗਾ ॥੧੧॥੧੭੯॥
Vyas was the great scholar of Vedas and the learning of Grammar.11.179.
ਸੁਨੀਪੁਤ੍ਰਕਾਦੁਇਗ੍ਰਿਹੰਕਾਸਿਰਾਜੰ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ) ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ
The king had heard that she king of Kashi had two daughter
ਮਹਾਸੁੰਦਰੀਰੂਪਸੋਭਾਸਮਾਜੰ॥
ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਪ ਤੇ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਮੁਜਸਮਾ ਹਨ।
Who were most beautiful and splendour of society.
ਜਿਣਿਉਜਾਇਤਾਕੋਹਣੋਦੁਸਟਪੁਸਟੰ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਲਿਆਉ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿਉ।
He wanted to go there in order to conquer them after killing the mighty tyrant.
ਕਰਿਯੋਧਿਆਨਤਾਨੇਲਦੇਭਾਰਉਸਟੰ॥੧੨॥੧੮੦॥
(ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਊਠਾਂ (ਉਤੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ) ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਲਦ ਕੇ (ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਵਲ) ਚਾਲੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੧੨॥੧੮੦॥
He then left (for that city) with loaded camel.12.180.
ਚਲੀਸੈਨਸੂਕਰਪਰਾਚੀਦਿਸਾਨੰ॥
ਪੂਰਵ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਲ ਸੈਨਾ ਹਵਾ ਦੀ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਰ ਪਈ।
The army moved towards the east like swift wind.
ਚੜੇਬੀਰਧੀਰੰਹਠੇਸਸਤ੍ਰਪਾਨੰ॥
ਧੀਰਜਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਠੀ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਏ।
With many heroes, enduring the resolute and weapon-wielders,
ਦੁਰਿਯੋਜਾਇਦੁਰਗਸੁਬਾਰਾਣਸੀਸੰ॥
ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ('ਬਾਰਾਣ') ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ (ਡਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ) ਕਿਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਲੁਕਿਆ।
The king of Kashi concealed himself in his ciadel,
ਘੇਰਿਯੋਜਾਇਫਉਜੰਭਜਿਓਏਕਈਸੰ॥੧੩॥੧੮੧॥
ਫੌਜ ਨੇ (ਕਿਲੇ ਨੂੰ) ਜਾ ਘੇਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ (ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੧੩॥੧੮੧॥
Which was besieged by the army of Janmeja he meditated only on Shiva.13.181.
ਮਚਿਯੋਜੁਧਸੁਧੰਬਹੇਸਸਤ੍ਰਘਾਤੰ॥
ਚੰਗਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚਿਆ, ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਘਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਉ-ਪੇਚ ਹੋਣ ਲਗੇ।
The war began in full swing, there were many slayings with weapons
ਗਿਰੇਅਧੁਵਧੰਸਨਧੰਬਿਪਾਤੰ॥
ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਜੇ ਹੋਏ ('ਸਨੱਧੰ') (ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਧੇ ਅੱਧੇ (ਟੁਕੜੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਡਿਗਣ ਲਗੇ।
And the heroes, cut into bits, fell in the field.
ਗਿਰੇਹੀਰਚੀਰੰਸੁਬੀਰੰਰਜਾਣੰ॥
ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਜੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਰਾਜਪੂਤ (ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ) ਡਿਗ ਪਏ।
The warriors experienced bloodbath and fell with their clothes filled with blood.
ਕਟੈਅਧੁਅਧੰਛੁਟੇਰੁਦ੍ਰਧ੍ਯਾਨੰ॥੧੪॥੧੮੨॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅਧੋ-ਅੱਧ ਕਟੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਵੀ ਉਖੜ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੪॥੧੮੨॥
They were chopped into halves the contemplation of Shva was interrupted.14.182.
ਗਿਰੇਖੇਤ੍ਰਖਤ੍ਰਾਣਖਤ੍ਰੀਖਤ੍ਰਾਣੰ॥
ਛਤ੍ਰੀਪਣੇ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਡਿਗ ਪਏ।
Many Kshatriyas of reputation fell in the battlefield.
ਬਜੀਭੇਰਭੁੰਕਾਰਦ੍ਰੁਕਿਆਨਿਸਾਣੰ॥
ਭੇਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਜਣ ਦੀ ਭੂੰਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਲਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਧੁੰਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਲਗੀ।
The dreadful sound of kettledrums and trumpets resounded.
ਕਰੇਪੈਜਵਾਰੰਪ੍ਰਚਾਰੈਸੁਬੀਰੰ॥
ਸੂਰਮੇ ਲਲਕਾਰੇ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਗਿਆ ('ਪੈਜਵਾਰੰ') ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The heroic warriors were shouting and making pledges, and also striking blows.
ਫਿਰੇਰੁੰਡਮੁੰਡੰਤਣੰਤਛਤੀਰੰ॥੧੫॥੧੮੩॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਧੜ, ਕਿਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੱਛੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੫॥੧੮੩॥
The trunks and heads, and bodies pierced by arrows were roaming.15.183.
ਬਿਭੇਦੰਤਵਰਮੰਪ੍ਰਛੇਦੈਤਨਾਨੰ॥
ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਵਚ ('ਦੰਤ-ਵਰਮੰ') ਟੁੱਟ ਗਏ ('ਬਿਭੇ') ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
The shafts were penetrating into the steel-armour
ਕਰੇਮਰਦਨੰਅਰਦਨੰਮਰਦਮਾਨੰ॥
ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸ਼ੂਰਵੀਰਾਂ ('ਮਰਦਮਾਨੰ') ਨੂੰ ਦਲ-ਮਲ ਕੇ ਮਸਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
And the heroic warriors were destroying the pride of others.
ਕਟੇਚਰਮਬਰਮੰਛੁਟੇਚਉਰਚਾਰੰ॥
ਕਵਚ ('ਬਰਮੰ') ਅਤੇ ਢਾਲਾਂ ਕਟੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਚੌਰ ਰੁਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The bodies and armour were being cut and the flywhicks were being trampled
ਗਿਰੇਬੀਰਧੀਰੰਛੁਟੇਸਸਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੰ॥੧੬॥੧੮੪॥
ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ) ਧੀਰਜਵਾਨ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਡਿਗੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ ॥੧੬॥੧੮੪॥
And with the blows of weapons, the bold warriors were falling.16.184.
ਜਿਣ੍ਯੋਕਾਸਕੀਸੰਹਣ੍ਯੋਸਰਬਸੈਨੰ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਜਨਮੇਜੇ ਨੇ) ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
The king of Kashi was conquered and all his forces were destroyed.
ਬਰੀਪੁਤ੍ਰਕਾਤਾਹਕੰਪ੍ਯੋਤ੍ਰਿਨੈਨੰ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ (ਦੋਹਾਂ) ਪੁੱਤਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ (ਜਨਮੇਜੇ ਨ) ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ। (ਇਹ ਘਟਨਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੰਬ ਗਿਆ।
Both his daughters were wedded by Janmeja, seeing which Shiva, the three-eyed god, trembled.
ਭਇਓਮੇਲਗੇਲੰਮਿਲੇਰਾਜਰਾਜੰ॥
(ਅਖੀਰ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ) ਮੇਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ (ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ।
Both the kings then became friendly the conquered kingdom was returned,
ਭਈਮਿਤ੍ਰਚਾਰੰਸਰੇਸਰਬਕਾਜੰ॥੧੭॥੧੮੫॥
(ਦੋਹਾਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਚੰਗੀ ਮਿਤਰਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਏ ॥੧੭॥੧੮੫॥
Friendship developed between both the kings and all their works were settled appropriately.17.185.
ਮਿਲੀਰਾਜਦਾਜੰਸੁਦਾਸੀਅਨੂਪੰ॥
(ਜਨਮੇਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਦਾਜ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਦਾਸੀ ਮਿਲੀ
The King janmeja received a unique maid-servant in his dowry,
ਮਹਾਬਿਦ੍ਯਵੰਤੀਅਪਾਰੰਸਰੂਪੰ॥
ਜੋ ਮਹਾਨ ਵਿਦਵੰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੀ।
Who was very learned and supremely beautiful.
ਮਿਲੇਹੀਰਚੀਰੰਕਿਤੇਸਿਆਉਕਰਨੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਹੀਰੇ, ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲੇ ('ਸਿਆਉ') ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਘੋੜੇ) ਮਿਲੇ।
He also received diamonds, garments and horses of black ears
ਮਿਲੇਮਤਦੰਤੀਕਿਤੇਸੇਤਬਰਨੰ॥੧੮॥੧੮੬॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਮਸਤ ਹਾਥੀ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੧੮॥੧੮੬॥
He also got many wanton white-coloured elephants with tusks.18.186.
ਕਰਿਯੋਬ੍ਯਾਹਰਾਜਾਭਇਓਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੰ॥
ਰਾਜਾ (ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ) ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ
On his marriage, the king became very happy.
ਭਲੀਭਾਤਪੋਖੇਦਿਜੰਸਰਬਅੰਨੰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਨ ਆਦਿ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਜਾਇਆ।
All the Brahmin were satisfied with the grant of all types of corn.
ਕਰੇਭਾਂਤਿਭਾਤੰਮਹਾਗਜਦਾਨੰ॥
ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ।
The king gave in charity various of elephants.
ਭਏਦੋਇਪੁਤ੍ਰੰਮਹਾਰੂਪਮਾਨੰ॥੧੯॥੧੮੭॥
(ਸਮਾਂ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੇ) ਮਹਾ ਰੂਪਵਾਨ ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੯॥੧੮੭॥
From both his wives, two very beautiful sons were born.19.187.
ਲਖੀਰੂਪਵੰਤੀਮਹਾਰਾਜਦਾਸੀ॥
(ਇਕ ਦਿਨ) ਜਨਮੇਜੇ ਨੇ ਰੂਪਵੰਤੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ
(One day) the king saw the winsome maid-servant.
ਮਨੋਚੀਰਕੈਚਾਰਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਨਿਕਾਸੀ॥
(ਜੋ ਇੰਜ ਲਗੀ) ਮਾਨੋ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੀਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਂਦਨੀ ਕਢੀ ਗਈ ਹੋਵੇ।
He felt as if the moonlight hath penetrated out of the moon.
ਲਹੈਚੰਚਲਾਚਾਰਬਿਦਿਆਲਤਾਸੀ॥
(ਜਾਂ ਇੰਜ ਲਗਦੀ ਸੀ) ਮਾਨੋ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੀ ਬੇਲ ਵਰਗੀ (ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ)
He considered her as beautiful lightning and as creeper of learning
ਕਿਧੌਕੰਜਕੀਮਾਝਸੋਭਾਪ੍ਰਕਾਸੀ॥੨੦॥੧੮੮॥
ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਮਾਨੋ ਕਮਲ ਵਿਚਲੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨੦॥੧੮੮॥
Or the inner glory of the lotus hath manifested itself.20.188.
ਕਿਧੌਫੂਲਮਾਲਾਲਖੈਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਸੀ॥
ਜਾਂ ਫੁਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਜਾਂ) ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਜਿਹੀ ਲਗਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ।
It seemd as if she was a garland of flowers or the moon itself
ਕਿਧੌਪਦਮਨੀਮੈਬਨੀਮਾਲਤੀਸੀ॥
ਜਾਂ ਪਦਮਨੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਜਾਂ) ਮਾਲਤੀ ਦਾ ਫੁਲ ਹੋਵੇ,
It may be the flower of Malti or it may be Padmini,
ਕਿਧੌਪੁਹਪਧੰਨਿਆਫੁਲੀਰਾਇਬੇਲੰ॥
ਜਾਂ ਫੁਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਧਨੁਸ਼ ('ਧੰਨਿਆ') ਹੋਵੇ, (ਜਾਂ) ਫੁਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਇਬੇਲ ਹੋਵੇ।
Or it may be Rati (the wife of god of love) or it may be the superb creeper of flowers.
ਤਜੈਅੰਗਤੇਬਾਸੁਚੰਪਾਫੁਲੇਲੰ॥੨੧॥੧੮੯॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਪਾ ਦੇ ਫੁਲਾਂ ਵਰਗੀ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ॥੨੧॥੧੮੯॥
The fragrance of the flowers of champa (Michelia champacca) was emanating from her limbs.21.189.
ਕਿਧੌਦੇਵਕੰਨਿਆਪ੍ਰਿਥੀਲੋਕਡੋਲੈ॥
ਜਾਂ ਦੇਵ-ਕੰਨਿਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ,
It seemed as if a heavenly damsel was roaming on the earth,
ਕਿਧੌਜਛਨੀਕਿਨ੍ਰਨੀਸਿਉਕਲੋਲੈ॥
ਜਾਂ ਯਕਸ਼ਿਣੀ ਅਥਵਾ ਕਿੰਨਰਣੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਕਲੋਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ,
Or a Yaksha or Kinnar woman was busy in her frolics,
ਕਿਧੌਰੁਦ੍ਰਬੀਜੰਫਿਰੈਮਧਿਬਾਲੰ॥
ਜਾਂ ਪਾਰਾ ('ਰੁਦ੍ਰਬੀਜ') ਹੀ ਇਸ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਫਿਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ,
Or the semen of god Shiva had strayed in the form of young damsel,
ਕਿਧੌਪਤ੍ਰਪਾਨੰਨਚੈਕਉਲਨਾਲੰ॥੨੨॥੧੯੦॥
ਜਾਂ ਪਾਨ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰ (ਜਾਂ) ਕਮਲ ਦੀ ਡੰਡੀ (ਵਾਂਗ) ਨਚ ਰਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨੨॥੧੯੦॥
Or the drops of water were dancing on the lotus leaf.22.190.
