Twenty arms’ length, twenty one arms length and twenty-five length
ਤੀਸਹਾਥਬਤੀਸਹਾਥਛਤੀਸਹਾਥਗਿਰਾਹਿ॥
ਤੀਹ ਹੱਥ, ਬੱਤੀ ਹੱਥ, ਛੱਤੀ ਹੱਥ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸੱਪ (ਆ ਆ ਕੇ ਹਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਡਿਗਦੇ ਸਨ।
Thirty arms’ length, thirty-two arms’ length and thirty-six arms’ length fell
ਆਨਆਨਗਿਰੈਤਹਾਸਭਭਸਮਭੂਤਹੋਇਜਾਇ॥੩॥੧੬੭॥
ਉਥੇ (ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸੱਪ) ਆ ਆ ਦੇ ਡਿਗਦੇ ਸਨ, ਸਭ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋਈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੩॥੧੬੭॥
And began to fall there all and reduced to ashes.3.167.
ਏਕਸੌਹਸਤਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਦੋਸੌਹਸਤਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ॥
ਇਕ ਸੌ ਹੱਥ ਜਿੰਨੇ, ਦੋ ਸੌ ਹੱਥ ਜੇਡੇ,
Those measuring one hindered arms’ length and two hundred arms’ length
ਤੀਨਸੌਹਸਤਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਚਤ੍ਰਸੈਸੁਸਮਾਨ॥
ਤਿੰਨ ਸੌ ਹੱਥ ਜੇਡੇ, ਚਾਰ ਸੌ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਰਾਬਰ,
Three hundred arms’ length and four hundred arms length
ਪਾਚਸੈਖਟਸੈਲਗੇਤਹਿਬੀਚਆਨਗਿਰੰਤ॥
ਪੰਜ ਸੌ, ਛੇ ਸੌ (ਹੱਥਾਂ) ਜਿੰਨੇ ਉਸ (ਕੁੰਡ) ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਡਿਗਦੇ ਸਨ।
Five hundred and six hundred arms’ length began to fall there within the fire-pit
ਸਹੰਸਹਸਤਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਲਉਸਭਹੋਮਹੋਤਅਨੰਤ॥੪॥੧੬੮॥
ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਬਾਈ ਤਕ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਸੱਪ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਡਿਗ ਕੇ) ਸੜਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੪॥੧੬੮॥
Even upto one thousand arms’ length and all innumerable ones were burnt and (thus reduced to ashes).4.168.

(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਰਪ-ਮੇਧ-ਯੱਗ ਰਚਿਆ।
Sovereign (Jammeja) is performing the serpent-sacrifice.
ਕਰੈਬਿਪਹੋਮੈਸਰੈਸਰਬਕਾਜੰ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਹੋਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The Brahmins are busy in performing Home ritual whose merit is setting everything right.
ਦਹੇਸਰਬਸਰਪੰਅਨੰਤੰਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੰ॥
ਅਨੰਤ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੱਪ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਮੋਏ ਸਨ।
Innumerable types of snakes are being burnt in the pit.
ਭੁਜੈਭੋਗਅਨੰਤੰਜੁਗੈਰਾਜਦੁਆਰੰ॥੧॥੧੬੯॥
(ਮੰਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਨਾਲ ਖਿਚੇ ਹੋਏ) ਜੋ ਅਨੰਤ ਸੱਪ ('ਭੋਗ') ਰਾਜ-ਦੁਆਰ ਤੇ ਗਏ (ਸਭ) ਸੜ ਗਏ ॥੧॥੧੬੯॥
Innumerable cobras, drawn by the mantras at the gate of the king. Have been burnt.1.169.
ਕਿਤੇਅਸਟਹਸਤੰਸਤੰਪ੍ਰਾਇਨਾਰੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਅੱਠ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ (ਕਿਤਨੇ) ਸੱਤ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ ('ਪ੍ਰਾਇ') ਮੋਟੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਵਾਲੇ,

ਕਿਤੇਦੁਆਦਿਸੇਹਸਤਲੌਪਰਮਭਾਰੰ॥

Many weighty serpents of twelve arms’ length
ਕਿਤੇਦ੍ਵੈਸਹੰਸ੍ਰਕਿਤੇਜੋਜਨੇਕੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਦੋ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਹੱਥ ਲੰਬੇ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਯੋਜਨ ਲੰਬੇ
Many of two thousand arms’ length and many of one Yojana length
ਗਿਰੇਹੋਮਕੁੰਡੰਅਪਾਰੰਅਚੇਤੰ॥੨॥੧੭੦॥
ਬੇਅੰਤ (ਸੱਪ) ਅਚੇਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਵਨ-ਕੁੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਡਿਗ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੨॥੧੭੦॥
They all fell in the fire-altar pit unconsciously.2.170.
ਕਿਤੇਜੋਜਨੇਦੁਇਕਿਤੇਤੀਨਜੋਜਨ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਦੋ ਯੋਜਨ, ਕਿਤਨੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਯੋਜਨ,
Many serpents of two Yajana length and many of three Yajanas
ਕਿਤੇਚਾਰਜੋਜਨਦਹੇਭੂਮਭੋਗਨ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਚਾਰ ਯੋਜਨ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸੱਪ ('ਭੋਗਨ')
Many of four Yajanas length, all these serpents of the earth were burnt
ਕਿਤੇਮੁਸਟਅੰਗੁਸਟਗ੍ਰਿਸਟੰਪ੍ਰਮਾਨੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਮੁਠ (ਜਿੰਨੇ) (ਕਿਤਨੇ) ਅੰਗੂਠੇ (ਜੇਡੇ, ਕਿਤਨੇ) ਗਿਠ ਜਿੰਨੇ,
Many of the size of a fist and a thumb and the length of a span
ਕਿਤੇਡੇਢੁਗਿਸਟੇਅੰਗੁਸਟੰਅਰਧਾਨੰ॥੩॥੧੭੧॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਡੇਢ ਗਿਠ (ਜੇਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਨੇ) ਅਧੇ ਅੰਗੂਠੇ (ਜਿੰਨੇ) ॥੩॥੧੭੧॥
And many of the length of one and a half span and many of the size of half a thumb were burnt.3.171.
ਕਿਤੇਚਾਰਜੋਜਨਲਉਚਾਰਕੋਸੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਚਾਰ ਯੋਜਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਕੋਹਾਂ ਜੇਡੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ
Many serpents from the length of four Yajanas upto four kos,
ਛੁਐਘ੍ਰਿਤਜੈਸੇਕਰੈਅਗਨਹੋਮੰ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਮ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ) ਘਿਓ (ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ)।
Were burnt in the altar-fire, as though the fire was touching the clarified butter.
ਫਣੰਫਟਕੈਫੇਣਕਾਫੰਤਕਾਰੰ॥
(ਹਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੱਪ) ਫਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਟਕਦੇ ਸਨ, ਝੱਗ ਸੁਟਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਫੁੰਕਾਰੇ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
While burning, the snakes fluttered their hoods, frothed and hissed.
ਛੁਟੈਲਪਟਜ੍ਵਾਲਾਬਸੈਬਿਖਧਾਰੰ॥੪॥੧੭੨॥
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਸੱਪ ਵਿਚ ਡਿਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਅੱਗ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਮਚਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੭੨॥
When they fell in the fire, the flame flared up.4.172.
ਕਿਤੇਸਪਤਜੋਜਨਲੌਕੋਸਅਸਟੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਸੱਤ ਯੋਜਨਾਂ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਠ ਕੋਹਾਂ ਜੇਡੇ,
Many serpents from the length of seven upto eight Kos,
ਕਿਤੇਅਸਟਜੋਜਨਮਹਾਪਰਮਪੁਸਟੰ॥
ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਅੱਠ ਯੋਜਨਾਂ ਜੇਡੇ ਮੋਟੇ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਬੱਧ (ਇਸ ਯੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ)
Many of the length of eight Yojanas and very fat
ਭਯੋਘੋਰਬਧੰਜਰੇਕੋਟਨਾਗੰ॥
ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Millions of snakes were thus burnt and there was great killing.
ਭਜ੍ਯੋਤਛਕੰਭਛਕੰਜੇਮਕਾਗੰ॥੫॥੧੭੩॥
ਤੱਛਕ ਡਰ ਕੇ (ਇੰਜ) ਭਜ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਉਂ ਕਾਂ ਬਾਜ਼ (ਭੱਛਕ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖਿਸਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੫॥੧੭੩॥
Takshak, the king of snakes ran away like the crow from the falcon for fear of being eaten.5.173.
ਕੁਲੰਕੋਟਹੋਮੈਬਿਖੈਵਹਿਣਕੁੰਡੰ॥
(ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਹਵਨ-ਕੁੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਮਰੀਆਂ।
Millions of serpents of his clan were burnt in the fire-altar.
ਬਚੇਬਾਧਡਾਰੇਘਨੇਕੁੰਡਝੁੰਡੰ॥
ਜੋ ਬਚ ਗਏ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਇਕੱਠਿਆਂ ਹਵਨ-ਕੁੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
Those who were saved, were bound down and collectively thrown in the fire-pit.
ਭਜ੍ਯੋਨਾਗਰਾਜੰਤਕ੍ਯੋਇੰਦ੍ਰਲੋਕੰ॥
ਨਾਗ-ਰਾਜ ਤੱਛਕ ਭਜ ਕੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਲੋਕ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ।
The king of Nagas ran away and took sheleter in the world of Indra.
ਜਰ੍ਯੋਬੈਦਮੰਤ੍ਰੰਭਰ੍ਯੋਸਕ੍ਰਸੋਕੰ॥੬॥੧੭੪॥
ਵੇਦ-ਮੰਤਰਾਂ (ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਲੋਕ) ਸੜਨ ਲਗਿਆ, (ਫਲਸਰੂਪ) ਇੰਦਰ ਚਿੰਤਾਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੬॥੧੭੪॥
With the power of Vedic mantras, the Abode of Indra also began to broil and with this, Indra was in great agony.6.174.
ਬਧ੍ਯੋਮੰਤ੍ਰਜੰਤ੍ਰੰਗਿਰ੍ਯੋਭੂਮਮਧੰ॥
(ਆਖਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੱਛਕ ਨਾਗ ਵੀ) ਮੰਤਰਾਂ-ਜੰਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੂਮੀ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਡਿਗਿਆ।
Bound by mantras and tantras, (Takshak) ultimately fell on the earth.
ਅੜਿਓਆਸਤੀਕੰਮਹਾਬਿਪ੍ਰਸਿਧੰ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਡਿਗਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਆਸਤੀਕ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਧ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ (ਰਾਜੇ ਅਗੇ) ਅੜ ਖੜੋਤਾ।
At that the great adept Brahmin Aasteek resisted the orders of the king.
ਭਿੜ੍ਯੋਭੇੜਭੂਪੰਝਿਣ੍ਯੋਝੇੜਝਾੜੰ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੂਬ ਭੇੜ ਭਿੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਖਿਝ ਗਿਆ।
He quarreled with the king and in the strife felt offended
ਮਹਾਕ੍ਰੋਧਉਠ੍ਯੋਤਣੀਤੋੜਤਾੜੰ॥੭॥੧੭੫॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਬਹੁਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਾਮੇ ਦੀ) ਤਣੀ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ (ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ) ਤਾੜਨ ਲਗਾ ॥੭॥੧੭੫॥
And rose in great anger, breaking the strings of his clothes.7.175.
ਤਜ੍ਯੋਸ੍ਰਪਮੇਧੰਭਜ੍ਯੋਏਕਨਾਥੰ॥
(ਕਿ) ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਯੱਗ ਛਡ ਦਿਓ (ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ) ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰੋ।
He asked the king to forsake the serpent-sacrifice and meditate on the One Lord
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਮੰਤ੍ਰਸੂਝੈਸਬੈਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਸਾਜੰ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਦੀ) ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਤਰ ਸੁਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜ (ਸਜਦੇ ਹਨ)।
With whose Grace all the mantras and materials of the world come to our mind.
ਸੁਨਹੁਰਾਜਸਰਦੂਲਬਿਦ੍ਯਾਨਿਧਾਨੰ॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਸੁਣ, (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੰਨੇਗਾ,
“O the Lion-like monarch and the treasure of learning!
ਤਪੈਤੇਜਸਾਵੰਤਜੁਆਲਾਸਮਾਨੰ॥੮॥੧੭੬॥
ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੇਜ ਸੂਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਅਗਨੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਤਪੇਗਾ ॥੮॥੧੭੬॥
“Thy Glory will shine like sun and blaze like fire.8.176.
ਮਹੀਮਾਹਰੂਪੰਤਪੈਤੇਜਭਾਨੰ॥
ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ('ਮਾਹ') (ਵਰਗਾ ਤੇਰਾ) ਰੂਪ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੇਜ ਚਮਕੇਗਾ।
“Thy beauty on the earth shall be moonlike and thy splendour sunlike
ਦਸੰਚਾਰਚਉਦਾਹਬਿਦਿਆਨਿਧਾਨੰ॥
(ਤੂੰ) ਦਸ, ਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ।
“Thou shall be treasure of fourteen learnings.
ਸੁਨਹੁਰਾਜਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਗਸਾਰੰਗਪਾਨੰ॥
ਹੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਧਨੁਸ਼ਧਾਰੀ ਰਾਜੇ! ਸੁਣੋ,
“Listen, O wielder of the bow and the monarch with knowledge of the Shastras!
ਤਜਹੁਸਰਪਮੇਧੰਦਿਜੈਮੋਹਿਦਾਨੰ॥੯॥੧੭੭॥
ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਯੱਗ ਛਡ ਦਿਓ, ਇਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦਿਓ ॥੯॥੧੭੭॥
“Bestow on me this gifts of abandoning the serpents-sacrifice.9.177.
ਤਜਹੁਜੋਨਸਰਪੰਜਰੋਅਗਨਆਪੰ॥
ਜੇ (ਤੂੰ) ਸੱਪਾਂ (ਦੇ ਯੱਗ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਛਡੇਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ (ਹਵਨ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਆਪ ਸੜ ਮਰਾਂਗਾ।
“If thou dost not abandon this gift of abandoning the serpent-sacrifice, I shall burn myself in the fire
ਕਰੋਦਗਧਤੋਕੌਦਿਵੌਐਸਸ੍ਰਾਪੰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਵੀ) ਸੜ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ।
“Or by giving such curse I shall reduce thee to ashes
ਹਣ੍ਯੋਪੇਟਮਧੰਛੁਰੀਜਮਦਾੜੰ॥
(ਜਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਛੁਰੀ ਜਾਂ ਕਟਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ।
“Or I shall pierce my belly with the sharp dagger
ਲਗੇਪਾਪਤੋਕੋਸੁਨਹੁਰਾਜਗਾੜੰ॥੧੦॥੧੭੮॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਸੁਣੋ, (ਫਿਰ) ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਹਤਿਆ ਦਾ) ਵੱਡਾ ਪਾਪ ਲਗੇਗਾ ॥੧੦॥੧੭੮॥
“Listen! O king! thou shalt be causing a great sin for thyself of Brahmin-killing.”10.178.
