ਖੁੰਢਾਅੰਦਰਿਰਖਿਕੈਦੇਨਿਸੁਮਲਸਜਾਇ॥
ਫਿਰ ਵੇਲਣੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੱਠਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਭਲਵਾਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਜ਼ਿਮੀਦਾਰ) ਇਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਪੀੜਦੇ ਹਨ)।
and then, it is placed between the wooden rollers and crushed.
ਰਸੁਕਸੁਟਟਰਿਪਾਈਐਤਪੈਤੈਵਿਲਲਾਇ॥
ਸਾਰੀ ਰਹੁ ਕੜਾਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸੇਕ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਰਹੁ) ਕੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਵਿਲਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
What punishment is inflicted upon it! Its juice is extracted and placed in the cauldron; as it is heated, it groans and cries out.
ਭੀਸੋਫੋਗੁਸਮਾਲੀਐਦਿਚੈਅਗਿਜਾਲਾਇ॥
(ਗੰਨੇ ਦਾ) ਉਹ ਫੋਗ (ਚੂਰਾ) ਭੀ ਸਾਂਭ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਸੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਕੜਾਹੇ ਹੇਠ) ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
And then, the crushed cane is collected and burnt in the fire below.
ਨਾਨਕਮਿਠੈਪਤਰੀਐਵੇਖਹੁਲੋਕਾਆਇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਲੋਕੋ! ਆ ਕੇ (ਗੰਨੇ ਦਾ ਹਾਲ) ਵੇਖੋ, ਮਿੱਠੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਿਠਾਸ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਗੰਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Nanak: come, people, and see how the sweet sugar-cane is treated! ||2||

ਇਕਨਾਮਰਣੁਨਚਿਤਿਆਸਘਣੇਰਿਆ॥
ਕਈ ਬੰਦੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ) ਬੜੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
Some do not think of death; they entertain great hopes.
ਮਰਿਮਰਿਜੰਮਹਿਨਿਤਕਿਸੈਨਕੇਰਿਆ॥
ਉਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਹਸਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਕਦੇ ਘੜੀ ਸੁਖਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਦੁਖੀ ਦੇ ਦੁਖੀ)। ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਉਹ (ਕਦੇ ਯਾਰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦੇ।
They die, and are re-born, and die, over and over again. They are of no use at all!
ਆਪਨੜੈਮਨਿਚਿਤਿਕਹਨਿਚੰਗੇਰਿਆ॥
ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਚੰਗੇ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
In their conscious minds, they call themselves good.
ਜਮਰਾਜੈਨਿਤਨਿਤਮਨਮੁਖਹੇਰਿਆ॥
(ਪਰ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਮਝਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨੇਕ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The King of the Angels of Death hunts down those self-willed manmukhs, over and over again.
ਮਨਮੁਖਲੂਣਹਾਰਾਮਕਿਆਨਜਾਣਿਆ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੂਣ-ਹਰਾਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਉਪਕਾਰ (ਦੀ ਸਾਰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ।
The manmukhs are false to their own selves; they feel no gratitude for what they have been given.
ਬਧੇਕਰਨਿਸਲਾਮਖਸਮਨਭਾਣਿਆ॥
ਬੱਧੇ-ਰੁੱਧੇ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਲਾਮਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਸ ਖਸਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦੇ।
Those who merely perform rituals of worship are not pleasing to their Lord and Master.
ਸਚੁਮਿਲੈਮੁਖਿਨਾਮੁਸਾਹਿਬਭਾਵਸੀ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਖਸਮ (ਰੱਬ) ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who attain the True Lord and chant His Name are pleasing to the Lord.
ਕਰਸਨਿਤਖਤਿਸਲਾਮੁਲਿਖਿਆਪਾਵਸੀ॥੧੧॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਖਤ ਉਤੇ (ਬੈਠੇ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਲਾਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਧੁਰੋਂ ਰੱਬ ਵਲੋਂ) ਲਿਖੇ ਇਸ ਲੇਖ (ਦੇ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
They worship the Lord and bow at His Throne. They fulfill their pre-ordained destiny. ||11||

ਮਛੀਤਾਰੂਕਿਆਕਰੇਪੰਖੀਕਿਆਆਕਾਸੁ॥
ਤਾਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਮੱਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਮੱਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ)। ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਪੰਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ।) (ਪਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਾ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ)।
What can deep water do to a fish? What can the vast sky do to a bird?
ਪਥਰਪਾਲਾਕਿਆਕਰੇਖੁਸਰੇਕਿਆਘਰਵਾਸੁ॥
ਪਾਲਾ (ਕੱਕਰ) ਪੱਥਰ ਉਤੇ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਘਰ ਦੇ ਵਸੇਬੇ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਖੁਸਰੇ (ਹੀਜੜੇ) ਉਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
What can cold do to a stone? What is married life to a eunuch?
ਕੁਤੇਚੰਦਨੁਲਾਈਐਭੀਸੋਕੁਤੀਧਾਤੁ॥
ਜੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਦਨ ਭੀ ਲਾ ਦੇਈਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲਾ ਕੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
You may apply sandalwood oil to a dog, but he will still be a dog.
ਬੋਲਾਜੇਸਮਝਾਈਐਪੜੀਅਹਿਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿਪਾਠ॥
ਬੋਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਦੇਈਏ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਕਰੀਏ (ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ)।
You may try to teach a deaf person by reading the Simritees to him, but how will he learn?
ਅੰਧਾਚਾਨਣਿਰਖੀਐਦੀਵੇਬਲਹਿਪਚਾਸ॥
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਨਣ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਏ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਪੰਜਾਹ ਦੀਵੇ ਪਏ ਬਲਣ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਣਾ)।
You may place a light before a blind man and burn fifty lamps, but how will he see?
ਚਉਣੇਸੁਇਨਾਪਾਈਐਚੁਣਿਚੁਣਿਖਾਵੈਘਾਸੁ॥
ਚੁਗਣ ਗਏ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਗ ਅਗੇ ਜੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਦੇਈਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਘਾਹ ਚੁਗ ਚੁਗ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਏਗਾ (ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ)।
You may place gold before a herd of cattle, but they will pick out the grass to eat.
ਲੋਹਾਮਾਰਣਿਪਾਈਐਢਹੈਨਹੋਇਕਪਾਸ॥
ਲੋਹੇ ਦਾ ਕੁਸ਼ਤਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਢਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਕਪਾਹ (ਵਰਗਾ ਨਰਮ) ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ।
You may add flux to iron and melt it, but it will not become soft like cotton.
ਨਾਨਕਮੂਰਖਏਹਿਗੁਣਬੋਲੇਸਦਾਵਿਣਾਸੁ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹੀ ਖ਼ੋਆਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕਿਤਨੀ ਮਤ ਦਿਓ, ਉਹ ਜਦੋਂ ਭੀ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ (ਉਹੀ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ) ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, this is the nature of a fool-everything he speaks is useless and wasted. ||1||

First Mahalaa:
ਕੈਹਾਕੰਚਨੁਤੁਟੈਸਾਰੁ॥
ਜੇ ਕੈਹਾਂ, ਸੋਨਾ ਜਾਂ ਲੋਹਾ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਏ,
When pieces of bronze, gold or iron break,
ਅਗਨੀਗੰਢੁਪਾਏਲੋਹਾਰੁ॥
ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਹਾਰ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਗਾਂਢਾ ਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
the metal-smith welds them together again in the fire, and the bond is established.
ਗੋਰੀਸੇਤੀਤੁਟੈਭਤਾਰੁ॥
ਜੇ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਖਸਮ ਨਾਰਾਜ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ,
If a husband leaves his wife,
ਪੁਤਂੀਗੰਢੁਪਵੈਸੰਸਾਰਿ॥
ਤਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜੋੜ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
their children may bring them back together in the world, and the bond is established.
ਰਾਜਾਮੰਗੈਦਿਤੈਗੰਢੁਪਾਇ॥
ਰਾਜਾ (ਪਰਜਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਾਮਲਾ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਪਰਜਾ ਦੀ ਵਿਗੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਾਮਲਾ) ਦਿੱਤਿਆਂ (ਰਾਜਾ ਪਰਜਾ ਦਾ) ਮੇਲ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
When the king makes a demand, and it is met, the bond is established.
ਭੁਖਿਆਗੰਢੁਪਵੈਜਾਖਾਇ॥
ਭੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਆਤੁਰ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ) ਸੰਬੰਧ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਹ (ਰੋਟੀ) ਖਾਏ।
When the hungry man eats, he is satisfied, and the bond is established.
ਕਾਲਾਗੰਢੁਨਦੀਆਮੀਹਝੋਲ॥
ਕਾਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਢ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਾਲ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਮੀਂਹ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਚੱਲਣ।
In the famine, the rain fills the streams to overflowing, and the bond is established.
ਗੰਢੁਪਰੀਤੀਮਿਠੇਬੋਲ॥
ਮਿੱਠੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਗੰਢ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਿਆਰ ਪੱਕਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
There is a bond between love and words of sweetness.
ਬੇਦਾਗੰਢੁਬੋਲੇਸਚੁਕੋਇ॥
ਵੈਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਤਦੋਂ) ਜੋੜ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੱਚ ਬੋਲੇ।
When one speaks the Truth, a bond is established with the Holy Scriptures.
ਮੁਇਆਗੰਢੁਨੇਕੀਸਤੁਹੋਇ॥
ਮੁਏ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ (ਜਗਤ ਨਾਲ) ਸੰਬੰਧ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਿਛੋਂ ਲੋਕ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਲਾਈ ਤੇ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ।
Through goodness and truth, the dead establish a bond with the living.
ਏਤੁਗੰਢਿਵਰਤੈਸੰਸਾਰੁ॥
(ਸੋ) ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਤ (ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ) ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Such are the bonds which prevail in the world.
ਮੂਰਖਗੰਢੁਪਵੈਮੁਹਿਮਾਰ॥
ਮੂੰਹ ਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਪਿਆਂ ਮੂਰਖ (ਦੇ ਮੂਰਖ-ਪੁਣੇ) ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The fool establishes his bonds only when he is slapped in the face.
ਨਾਨਕੁਆਖੈਏਹੁਬੀਚਾਰੁ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ (ਦੀ ਗੱਲ) ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
Nanak says this after deep reflection:
ਸਿਫਤੀਗੰਢੁਪਵੈਦਰਬਾਰਿ॥੨॥
ਕਿ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਆਦਰ-ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ) ਜੋੜ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
through the Lord's Praise, we establish a bond with His Court. ||2||

ਆਪੇਕੁਦਰਤਿਸਾਜਿਕੈਆਪੇਕਰੇਬੀਚਾਰੁ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself created and adorned the Universe, and He Himself contemplates it.
ਇਕਿਖੋਟੇਇਕਿਖਰੇਆਪੇਪਰਖਣਹਾਰੁ॥
(ਪਰ ਇਥੇ) ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਖੋਟੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੌਲੇ ਹਨ) ਤੇ ਕਈ (ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਸਿੱਕੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਖਰੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
Some are counterfeit, and some are genuine. He Himself is the Appraiser.
ਖਰੇਖਜਾਨੈਪਾਈਅਹਿਖੋਟੇਸਟੀਅਹਿਬਾਹਰਵਾਰਿ॥
(ਰੁਪਏ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਂਗ) ਖਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ) ਖੋਟੇ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਸੁੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਭਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ)।
The genuine are placed in His Treasury, while the counterfeit are thrown away.
ਖੋਟੇਸਚੀਦਰਗਹਸੁਟੀਅਹਿਕਿਸੁਆਗੈਕਰਹਿਪੁਕਾਰ॥
ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੱਕਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਇਹ (ਸਹੈਤਾ ਲਈ) ਫ਼ਰਿਆਦ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ।
The counterfeit are thrown out of the True Court-unto whom should they complain?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਪਿਛੈਭਜਿਪਵਹਿਏਹਾਕਰਣੀਸਾਰੁ॥
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਹੌਲੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਲਈ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਜਾ ਪੈਣ।
They should worship and follow the True Guru-this is the lifestyle of excellence.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਖੋਟਿਅਹੁਖਰੇਕਰੇਸਬਦਿਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਖੋਟਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਖਰੇ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਖਰੇ ਬਣਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ।
The True Guru converts the counterfeit into genuine; through the Word of the Shabad, He embellishes and exalts us.
ਸਚੀਦਰਗਹਮੰਨੀਅਨਿਗੁਰਕੈਪ੍ਰੇਮਪਿਆਰਿ॥
(ਫਿਰ ਉਹ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਰਾਮਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who have enshrined love and affection for the Guru, are honored in the True Court.
ਗਣਤਤਿਨਾਦੀਕੋਕਿਆਕਰੇਜੋਆਪਿਬਖਸੇਕਰਤਾਰਿ॥੧੨॥
ਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲਿਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਐਬ-ਜੋਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੀਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੋਈ? ॥੧੨॥
Who can estimate the value of those who have been forgiven by the Creator Lord Himself? ||12||
ਸਲੋਕੁਮਃ੧॥
Shalok, First Mahalaa:
ਹਮਜੇਰਜਿਮੀਦੁਨੀਆਪੀਰਾਮਸਾਇਕਾਰਾਇਆ॥
ਪੀਰ, ਸ਼ੇਖ਼, ਰਾਇ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਥੱਲੇ (ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
All the spiritual teachers, their disciples and the rulers of the world shall be buried under the ground.
ਮੇਰਵਦਿਬਾਦਿਸਾਹਾਅਫਜੂਖੁਦਾਇ॥
(ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਭੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾਇ!
The emperors shall also pass away; God alone is Eternal.
ਏਕਤੂਹੀਏਕਤੁਹੀ॥੧॥
ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ, ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
You alone, Lord, You alone. ||1||

First Mahalaa:
ਨਦੇਵਦਾਨਵਾਨਰਾ॥
ਨਾਹ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਨਾਹ ਦੈਂਤ, ਨਾਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ,
Neither the angels, nor the demons, nor human beings,
ਨਸਿਧਸਾਧਿਕਾਧਰਾ॥
ਨਾਹ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਜੋਗੀ, ਨਾਹ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਰਿਹਾ।
nor the Siddhas, nor the seekers shall remain on the earth.
ਅਸਤਿਏਕਦਿਗਰਿਕੁਈ॥
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ?
